Channel: Dan Lok

[5]
- You know, what are some of the specific skill sets then
[8]
that a young entrepreneur should have
[10]
that are most important for them to have
[12]
to set themselves up for success?
[14]
- The number one skill in business
[18]
is the ability to sell.
[22]
Period!.
[24]
There's no relationship between being good at what you do,
[28]
and getting paid.
[31]
There's a huge relationship
[33]
between being good at what you do,
[35]
being able to sell and getting paid.
[39]
Some of the highest paid people in the world,
[42]
they're not the best at what they do.
[45]
They're the best at selling what they do.
[48]
As an entrepreneur, if I have a product
[52]
I need to sell
[54]
to the marketplace and why did you buy my product?
[56]
If I need a loan to go to the, I go to the bank,
[59]
I need to sell the banker
[60]
why they should loan me the money
[61]
to expand or to start my business?
[65]
If I have vendors, I need to sell my vendors,
[67]
why don't you give me better terms.
[71]
If I have employees, I need to sell my employees
[73]
why they should perform,
[75]
why they should follow me and follow my mission
[79]
and go with where I see the vision I wanna go.
[82]
Your selling every day, period.
[85]
That's our number one skill that we need.
[88]
And yet, most entrepreneurs
[92]
if you ask them so why should I buy your thing?
[98]
'Cause it's good.
[100]
And then they go on and they don't know anything about it.
[102]
Not that it's not their fault.
[103]
It's just they've never thought on how to
[105]
not just beginner entrepreneurs, by the way,
[107]
because I advise consult with so many entrepreneurs.
[111]
I don't care,
[112]
multimillion dollar 10, 20 million doesn't matter.
[114]
I say tell me what you got.
[116]
They can't articulate it.
[118]
They can't sell it.
[120]
That's a problem, right?
[121]
If you can't even sell what you do, then how do you,
[125]
how do you get your people to sell what you do?
[127]
It's impossible.
[128]
You should be the number one salesperson for your company.
[130]
Steve Jobs is a number one salesperson for Apple.
[135]
Period.
[137]
When he was remember the iPhone back then?
[142]
It is a product announcement, yes, revolutionary.
[147]
It's not a product announcement, it is a sales presentation.
[153]
He's selling the iPhone to the world for the first time.
[158]
Elon Musk,
[160]
discipled have you seen the Cybertruck, yeah.
[164]
Elon well although, how many have you seen the accidents?
[166]
Right?
[167]
Number one skill.
[169]
And then afterwards, of course, financial literacy,
[172]
being able to refine in financial statements, leadership,
[175]
negotiation, marketing, I could go on and on.
[178]
But number one skill is sales.
[181]
Does that make sense?
[182]
- [Crowd] Yeah.
[184]
- The problem is,
[187]
when I say the word sales what comes to mind?
[193]
Door to door, what comes to mind?
[195]
- [Audience] Stymie.
[196]
- Stymie What else?
[198]
- [ Audience] Snake oil.
[199]
- Yes, snake oil used car salesman.
[203]
So it is a number one skill that we need.
[205]
And yet the minute we think about sales, it's like,
[208]
is there like a such a dirty word.
[211]
I don't want to be a salesperson.
[213]
I don't wanna sell anything.
[216]
Well, sales equals income.
[219]
When I hear someone, an entrepreneur,
[222]
a startup entrepreneur, and they say,
[224]
I don't wanna sell anything, you're broke.
[229]
Guarantee, I don't wanna sell it, you're broke,
[231]
'cause that means you might as well say I don't like income.
[235]
It's no different if they say I don't like income.
[238]
Because here's my belief
[241]
and you don't have to buy my belief.
[243]
But I believe if you truly believe in what you do,
[246]
you're morally obligated to sell it.
[250]
It is your duty to sell it.
[253]
If I believe Vince,
[254]
you should drink eight glasses of water a day
[256]
for your well being and I sell water,
[259]
I need to convince you and sell you why
[261]
to drink that eight glasses of water a day.
[263]
Now, although you might say I don't have time.
[266]
I don't I don't drink it's too inconvenient.
[269]
I have to go to the bathroom too many times.
[271]
I need to overcome those objections and convince you,
[274]
you should drink eight glass of water day and
[277]
my company provides the best water.
[281]
The cleanest water and to make that sell.
[284]
You may not even know you need it yet.
[286]
But it's my job to educate you why you need it.
[289]
There's certainty and then
[292]
you drink eight glasses of water a day your health improves.
[296]
That's the difference so,
[300]
you can help anybody
[302]
if you don't sell them.
[304]
You can help them if you don't sell them.
[306]
So sales is not a dirty word.
[307]
It's actually to me one of the most
[310]
noble professions in the world.
[312]
That's why I train so many salespeople.
[314]
It's a beautiful profession.
[315]
Nothing happens until a sale is made.
[319]
You're here because someone sold you a ticket.
[324]
You could stay home and watch Netflix.
[327]
But someone saw you,
[329]
Hey, you should be at the gala.
[331]
I heard that maybe
[333]
there's an interesting person that's coming.
[336]
I don't know if he's any good, but
[338]
let's see what happens.
[340]
I got nothing to do, you know, Friday night anyway.
[344]
But someone sold you a ticket, so that's why you're here
[348]
It is very simple.
