[10]
hey everyone it's julia mark here from
[12]
rv
[13]
love we've been getting a lot of
[15]
questions about our recent rv rental
[16]
experiences
[18]
and so we decided to put a video
[19]
together answering frequently asked
[21]
questions about renting an rv
[23]
so stay tuned
[29]
[Music]
[33]
welcome back everybody julia marquis
[35]
from arby love
[36]
and if you haven't already noticed rving
[38]
is hot
[39]
right now and rv rentals are really hot
[42]
our rv rental video
[44]
to florida that we put up just a few
[45]
weeks ago has exploded in views so if
[48]
you haven't seen that go ahead and
[49]
check that out now we rented not one but
[52]
two
[53]
rvs over the course of a month in
[54]
january february earlier this year
[56]
and we had so many great experiences and
[58]
learnt so much and
[59]
there have been so many questions rv
[61]
share has actually asked us
[63]
to share some of the frequently asked
[65]
questions that people have about renting
[67]
an rvs so if you've never rented an rv
[69]
before you've probably got at least
[71]
one two five or maybe even all of these
[73]
questions
[74]
good chance and we've got a bunch of
[76]
questions so we're gonna have a great
[77]
details for you
[78]
here in this video and then also in the
[80]
blog post at rvlove.com
[83]
so the first question is why rent an rv
[86]
the number one thing on people's minds
[88]
right now is safety we all want to
[90]
travel
[90]
but we want to be safe everyone's been
[92]
cooped up we want to get out
[94]
what do you want to do going to hit the
[96]
road in an rv and this year of all years
[99]
is probably the
[100]
best year ever to go renting an rv
[102]
because all the other types of travel
[104]
are really not as appealing as normal a
[106]
lot of people are not very interested
[108]
in getting on an airplane or you're
[110]
probably not interested in going to a
[112]
hotel
[112]
right now and so making a cruise yeah or
[116]
definitely not taking a cruise
[117]
and even normal travel even one of the
[119]
big pieces of
[120]
regular travel is going out to eat and
[123]
so a lot of the things that
[124]
are parts of regular travel are all
[127]
restricted right now
[128]
but an rv is a way to get out and
[130]
explore
[131]
and have a great travel experience
[133]
without any of the restrictions that are
[135]
imposed on people because
[136]
you're going to bring your own food
[138]
you're going to have your own bed your
[139]
own kitchen your own bathroom so you
[141]
have
[141]
a fully contained environment to go do
[144]
all of your traveling and exploring and
[146]
it's
[146]
it's really a great time to get out with
[148]
your family and travel
[149]
so many of you may have been thinking
[151]
you know one day we're going to do an rv
[153]
road trip
[154]
and see america and this is the time to
[156]
do it but safety
[158]
and being able to contain your
[160]
environment are very very important
[161]
well an rv is the ultimate way to
[163]
control your environment it's
[165]
it's a really fantastic way to travel
[166]
and if you don't have an rv
[168]
then you can just rent an rv and of
[170]
course with an rv
[171]
you can have your meals in a city
[173]
location anywhere you choose you can
[175]
just pull over somewhere on the side of
[176]
the road or
[177]
go to a scenic destination you don't
[179]
even have to go out to restaurants
[180]
anymore you can just
[181]
pick up takeout and cook your own meals
[183]
and go and enjoy it somewhere scenic
[185]
but even besides renting an rv to go on
[188]
a vacation or to visit family
[190]
a lot of people are renting rvs right
[191]
now as a second
[193]
office or for business trips instead of
[195]
flying they're trying to take a rental
[197]
rv to go on the business trips
[199]
if you have someone in your home that
[200]
works in essential services or
[202]
on the front line and you're wanting to
[204]
keep them quarantined from the rest of
[205]
the family
[206]
a lot of people have been renting an rv
[208]
and putting that in the driveway to be
[209]
able to accommodate them
[210]
or if someone's become sick whether
[212]
that's with covert or something else and
[213]
you just want to keep them
[215]
safer and more isolated from the rest of
[217]
the family
[218]
rvs are becoming very popular as your
[220]
very own quarantine machine
[222]
another reason you might want to rent an
[224]
rv is to
[225]
transport somebody if maybe they're not
[227]
feeling well and they're needing to lay
[229]
down
[229]
during that relocation that's a great
[231]
thing to do in an rv
[233]
working on site sometimes if you're
[235]
working on site somewhere whether that's
[236]
a construction project or you're doing
[238]
an assignment
[239]
then having an lv there for that period
[241]
of time instead of renting an apartment
[243]
or a house
[243]
right or maybe you're displaced from
[245]
your regular home because it got damaged
[247]
or there's other reason it's inhabitable
[249]
you cannot use an rv for temporary
[251]
storage and that could just be
[253]
a travel trailer even if you don't have
[254]
a vehicle a tow it some
[256]
renters will actually drop off that
[259]
travel trailer
[259]
at the campground for you and maybe even
[261]
hook it up for you
[262]
so you just show up and you have that
[264]
rental experience without having to
[266]
learn how to tow
[267]
and also people when all these things
[270]
open back up
[270]
people like to rent rvs to go to
[274]
sporting events and do tailgating
[276]
festivals and concerts as well
[278]
they can leave the rv for you so you're
[279]
just basically using it
[281]
as accommodation there on site so for us
[283]
when we rented two rvs earlier this year
[286]
there were a couple of reasons for that
[288]
one is we were going to the florida rv
[289]
super show
[290]
and rather than stay in a hotel and rent
[293]
a car
[293]
we thought why don't we just stay in an
[295]
rv on site so we can go and travel
[296]
around the rv show we prefer
[298]
rvs anyway and the second reason was
[300]
we've been shopping around for rv's
[302]
through getting a second smaller rv and
[304]
we wanted to try a few on for
[306]
size and so it may seem expensive to
[308]
rent an rv but when you think about the
[310]
cost of rv ownership and
[311]
the depreciation and the purchase price
[313]
and the taxes and the maintenance and
[315]
all of that
[316]
and what if you don't pick the right rv
[318]
you end up having to change or trade
[320]
that in
[321]
that can really hurt your wallet right
[323]
there you can take a huge hit
[325]
so and rv is a great way to be able to
[328]
like try on different rvs for size and
[329]
make sure it's going to be right for you
[331]
right because there's nothing like
[332]
spending a few days or maybe a week in
[334]
an rv to really get a feel for things
[336]
you do and don't like
[338]
maybe it looks fine when you're doing a
[339]
little quick tour at the rv dealership
[341]
but
[342]
after a weekend you realize oh well the
[343]
water pump's super loud or the bed's
[345]
really not that comfortable to sleep in
[347]
after all or i'm too tall i hit my head
[349]
on the air conditioning you didn't i
[350]
didn't have that problem with it
[352]
but there's it's a really important part
[354]
of an rv shopping experience
[356]
that we recommend people often yeah even
[359]
as experienced rv is we're amazed at how
[361]
much we still learn from our rental
[363]
experiences
[364]
you know rv rental may also make a lot
[366]
more sense if you don't plan to use it a
[367]
lot if you're just going to use it once
[369]
or twice a year for a couple of
[371]
uh vacations or trips then by the time
[374]
you
[374]
calculate all of the related costs of rv
[376]
ownership that may not be worth it for
[378]
you especially if you don't have
[379]
anywhere to store it especially if you
[381]
don't have somewhere to store it because
[382]
storing it
[383]
maintaining it the depreciation taxes on
[385]
the purchase
[386]
all those things can add up and you do
[388]
the math if you're only going to go out
[390]
a couple times a year renting's probably
[391]
a more cost effective approach
[393]
and i think what's really nice about
[394]
renting too is you get to try all
[396]
different kinds of rvs whereas when you
[398]
buy
[398]
an rv that's it that's the one that
[400]
you're having all of your travel
[401]
experiences
[402]
in but if you want to try well this time
[403]
we're going to try a travel trailer and
[405]
next time we're going to try a class c
[406]
and next time we're going to drive fifth
[408]
wheel or
[408]
this time we're going to try an
[409]
airstream you can just have completely
[411]
different kinds of vacation experiences
[413]
which may be a better fit for depending
[415]
on who's going on that vacation
[417]
maybe it's just you and your spouse or
[419]
maybe it's your entire family maybe
[421]
you'll bring parents along sometime
[423]
pets so you can really mix up where are
[425]
you going you know what's the weather
[427]
going to be like and change the rv up
[428]
depending on what's going to suit
[430]
particular type of rv vacation
[432]
experience you're wanting to have so how
[434]
much does it cost to rent an rv
[436]
isn't it expensive well it depends on
[439]
the
[439]
type of rv you're renting and then also
[441]
how long the shorter the term of the
[443]
rental the higher the nightly rate but
[445]
if you rent for a week or rent for two
[447]
weeks like we did
[448]
those rates can come down substantially
[450]
and you can rent
[451]
all any different type whether it's a
[453]
small pop-up camper
[454]
or maybe a class b van all the way up to
[458]
really expensive luxury bus conversions
[461]
the bus conversion we've seen them as
[462]
high as
[463]
thousand dollars a night but we've also
[465]
seen rvs renting for under a hundred
[467]
dollars a night so it really depends on
[469]
what you're renting most rvs that people
[471]
are gonna rent
[472]
are gonna be ranging in that hundred
[474]
dollar a night range but
[475]
sometimes you might see two hundred
[477]
dollars a ride
[478]
it just depends on the rv you're gonna
[480]
rent then there are other variables like
[483]
renting during the peak season versus
[485]
the low season
[487]
what location or city you rent from and
[489]
just
[490]
supply and demand no matter what kind of
[493]
other you're looking for or what age
[494]
what type
[495]
you're bound to find something to fit
[497]
your budget and when you think about how
[499]
you would normally vacation whether you
[501]
fly in somewhere
[503]
you might have hotel stays you might
[505]
have to rent a car
[507]
and then of course there's all of the
[508]
eating out and that's where things
[510]
really start to add up so
[511]
when you think about all of those
[513]
expenses and add them up compared to the
[514]
cost of an
[515]
rv where everything's included and then
[518]
you can cook most of your uh
[519]
you might eat out some but you can cook
[521]
a lot more meals in your rv i think
[523]
you'll find that
[524]
the comparison is actually you know
[526]
pretty reasonable and sometimes even
[528]
less expensive
[529]
so what kinds of rvs can you rent and
[532]
that really can
[533]
run the gamut you can rent something so
[535]
simple as a pop-up camper or you can
[537]
rent something
[538]
like a multi-million dollar bus
[540]
conversion that the rock stars travel in
[543]
the good news is you can rent pretty
[545]
much any type of rv there is
[547]
someone's going to be renting that all
[550]
right you can see this sun seeker over
[551]
here that's a typical class c
[553]
but it has a nice big slide out so
[555]
that'd be roomy inside
[557]
nice to rent an rv instead of going out
[559]
in your tent
[561]
we had a huge storm here last night i
[563]
would be glad to be in an rv instead of
[564]
in a tent
[565]
oh and here's a rental rv right here
[567]
this is one of those cruise america
[569]
harvey rentals with the branding on the
[571]
side
[573]
so this winnebago view is a class c that
[576]
would be a popular type of rv you could
[578]
rent
[579]
and here's a travel trailer you might be
[581]
choosing to rent a travel trailer
[582]
whether you have a vehicle that can tow
[584]
it
[585]
or if you can have the person you rent
[587]
it from drop it off for you
[589]
so this travel trailer here is actually
[592]
a toy hauler you can see the
[594]
door on the back of the trailer that
[596]
would drop down and form as a ramp so
[598]
you can load
[598]
toys into the back and bring all your
[601]
big
[602]
motorized toys along with you can also
[605]
rent
[605]
like a class a luxury diesel motorhome
[608]
like this one
[610]
or a fifth wheel
[613]
so you can see while i'm walking around
[614]
here there's pretty much every type of
[616]
rv in this campground and if you rent
[617]
from
[618]
an rv platform like rv share you can
[620]
rent pretty much
[621]
any one of these types of rvs
[625]
maybe one with really bold paint like
[627]
this one
[634]
so if you've got deep pockets you might
[636]
even choose to rent
[637]
something like this prevost bus
[639]
conversion
[640]
but be ready to spend some money if
[642]
you're going to rent something like that
[647]
so what's included when you rent an rv
[649]
that's really going to depend on
[651]
the owner and the particular rv some
[653]
come fully equipped and some come
[655]
pretty basic but then you're paying to
[657]
rent the other items
[658]
as part of the rental so you might be
[660]
driving to pick up the rental lobby and
[662]
you might bring some of your own things
[663]
you might bring your own sheets and
[664]
pillows from home you might bring some
[666]
of your own dishware
[667]
especially if you're local right but a
[669]
lot of rental rvs
[670]
you can rent it very basic and then not
[672]
have up charges for the linens in the
[674]
kitchen sets and some would just include
[676]
it in their rental price
[678]
but when we were renting in florida we
[679]
had the linens and the kitchen squares
[681]
provided for us
[682]
some may have an additional up charge
[684]
for running the generator
[686]
and we'll provide a generator if it
[688]
doesn't come with the onboard
[690]
generator there's also patio mats
[692]
camping chairs
[694]
bicycles basically anything you could
[696]
want to need a barbecue
[698]
an rv specific gps all of those things
[701]
you can add on
[702]
to your rental you get to choose so make
[704]
sure that you ask
[705]
who you're running the arby from what's
[706]
included and if there's an upcharge but
[708]
even things like an abbey specific gps i
[710]
mean they can be a little expensive on a
[712]
daily basis but you could download an
[714]
app like rb trip wizard that would be
[715]
less expensive option for that with an
[717]
rvsafe gps but
[719]
you know i think it really depends on
[720]
the rental and the unit and finding out
[722]
what's available and what do they charge
[724]
for it
[724]
so another common question is will your
[726]
regular insurance cover your rv rental
[729]
and in general no it's not like renting
[732]
a car
[733]
renting an rv is very different and so
[735]
most more often than not
[736]
you will not be covered with your
[738]
existing insurance policy
[740]
on our rv rental now depending on where
[742]
you rent it from
[743]
they may have rv rental insurance
[746]
included in that rental price
[748]
so the rv rental insurance is typically
[751]
covered by the rv
[752]
owners policy but you can get additional
[754]
coverage for you
[756]
just if you want that extra peace of
[757]
mind and security if you're ready from a
[759]
peer-to-peer
[760]
rental program like rv share then
[763]
it is going to be covered within the
[766]
rental agreement
[767]
this protects the owners and the renters
[768]
and is automatically included in the
[770]
reservation but do ask check
[772]
and ask to see a copy of that insurance
[773]
policy to make sure it's something that
[775]
you're comfortable with
[776]
that if there is an incident that you
[778]
know how it's going to be covered and
[779]
handled
[780]
so what if something breaks or the rv
[782]
breaks down while you're renting the rv
[784]
we all know that rvs have a reputation
[786]
for having things break down and even in
[788]
our
[788]
rental experience in florida we did have
[790]
a couple things that broke
[792]
most of them were pretty small that was
[793]
something i could fix with a screwdriver
[795]
and that was simple but we did have one
[797]
other issue
[798]
that but the the company that we rented
[802]
from
[802]
came out and fixed that for us because
[804]
we were still in the local area
[806]
and so if something does go wrong the
[808]
first step would be to reach out to the
[810]
rv owner where you rented from
[812]
because they may be able to walk you
[813]
through how to do the repair yourself
[815]
or be able to repair themselves if
[818]
they're in the local area
[819]
but second step they may have a really
[821]
good contacts with local area
[824]
dealers or mobile mechanics that could
[826]
help repair that for you faster because
[829]
their existing relationships might get
[831]
you in there
[831]
faster for the repair very often
[833]
roadside assistance is included in rv
[835]
rental so that's another question to ask
[838]
is roadside assistance included it's
[839]
usually shown as an extra daily charge
[841]
as a line item so you need to look at
[843]
everything on the other rental contract
[845]
to see what you're being charged for
[847]
so next question is how many miles can
[849]
you travel in a day
[850]
and this totally depends on the rental
[852]
but what we
[854]
saw in our experiences with rv rentals
[856]
is they were generally including about a
[857]
hundred miles per day
[859]
and if you're only on a short rental
[860]
that doesn't sound like a lot but if you
[862]
have a two-week rental like we did
[864]
that's an
[864]
average miles per day and we were able
[866]
to drive a lot we were able to drive
[868]
over a thousand miles and go on a big
[870]
trip with the rv
[871]
during the time we had it but be mindful
[874]
of what their policies are because a lot
[876]
of
[876]
rv rental companies if you go over the
[879]
miles
[880]
limit it might be 10 cents a mile or
[882]
even a dollar a mile
[883]
on some rv so make sure you're reading
[886]
the fine print on that because a dollar
[887]
a mile would add up
[888]
very quickly but we've seen 100 250
[891]
miles a day
[892]
is pretty average as a range but again
[894]
totally depends on the rentals
[896]
so now how do you rent an rv and of
[899]
course the easiest way to do that right
[901]
now
[901]
is online rving is hot other rentals are
[905]
through the roof right now
[906]
fortunately there are a lot to choose
[908]
from there are literally thousands
[910]
around the country in
[911]
every state so go online some rv dealers
[915]
may even rent out rvs especially if they
[917]
are looking to sell you an rv now the
[920]
big rv rental companies like a cruise
[922]
america or
[923]
uh el monte the big chains those chains
[927]
usually just a class c motor on that's
[929]
the ones that are a van chassis with the
[932]
cab
[932]
over sleeping area and those are really
[935]
popular for families and they're pretty
[936]
easy to drive so those are very
[938]
common but when you use a platform like
[940]
rv share a peer-to-peer program
[943]
then you can rent individuals rvs and
[947]
i think one of the advantages of that is
[948]
that you're not going to be driving
[950]
someone's billboard you know i don't
[952]
you're not tagged as a renter
[955]
automatically
[956]
yeah so when we rented ours we wanted to
[958]
use a peer-to-peer platform so we would
[960]
have a non-branded rv and we rented
[963]
a class b plus which is a relatively
[965]
small
[966]
van and we also rented a smaller class c
[969]
as well so
[970]
we had that great experience with that
[971]
but those rental lobbies that you mostly
[973]
see
[973]
around national parks and there's really
[975]
popular tourist attractions
[977]
they're the ones that people really
[978]
think of when you think of rental rv but
[980]
that doesn't have to be you
[982]
and that was what was important to us
[983]
when we rented rvs but the reason we
[985]
like rv share is they've actually got
[987]
the biggest range of rvs to rent from
[989]
both in terms of the number and the
[991]
types that you can read from all around
[993]
north america when you're searching
[995]
online because it's through a platform
[998]
that is a reputable platform and has
[999]
worry-free offerings like insurance and
[1002]
other things built in like roadside
[1004]
assistance and all of those things to
[1005]
give you peace of mind to reduce any
[1007]
worries that you may have while you're
[1008]
traveling
[1009]
there'll be rentals from individuals
[1011]
small fleet owners from dealers
[1013]
so it really is like airbnb in that
[1015]
they're all rounded up in one place
[1017]
because you can browse and see all of
[1018]
the different kinds of rvs available in
[1020]
your area
[1021]
the different types the different prices
[1023]
how many people they can accommodate the
[1025]
different amenities the different
[1026]
standards
[1027]
basically you can put in filters and
[1029]
narrow down to what kind of choice is
[1031]
going to be right for you
[1032]
and your travels and there are other
[1034]
online platforms besides rv share but
[1036]
this is the only one that we have
[1037]
personal experience with and that we'd
[1039]
be able to comfortable recommending
[1041]
so we're going to put all of the links
[1042]
down below to the others that we've
[1044]
rented
[1044]
to the related blog post and our ivy
[1046]
rental experiences
[1048]
hope you get a chance to get out there
[1049]
this summer and rent another yourself it
[1051]
really is a fun and amazing way to
[1053]
travel so
[1053]
we hope this video has been helpful to
[1055]
you and answering a lot of the common
[1056]
questions related to
[1058]
renting rvs if you have any questions at
