[6]
Hi guys, welcome back.
[7]
This is the Pixel 5 full review,
[9]
we're going to go into lots of detail.
[11]
So this video might be a little bit long.
[15]
But first, I want to jump into
[16]
a few questions that some of you
[18]
have asked me over on Instagram,
[19]
I think Facebook as well.
[20]
So the first question was
[21]
from bjones792, on Instagram.
[25]
"Have you got the gap between the panel
[27]
and the frame that people are reporting?"
[29]
And that's the first time
[30]
I had heard about it,
[30]
from that comment.
[31]
So I went and looked online.
[33]
I've checked my device,
[35]
and if you look closely,
[36]
there is a gap,
[38]
and you can slide that A4 paper
[41]
down that gap as well.
[43]
I've noticed bits of maybe dust
[46]
and stuff do collect in there.
[47]
So when I was sliding the paper through,
[49]
it was actually pulling
[50]
some of that out as well.
[51]
So I don't know how bad
[52]
other people's gaps are in there,
[54]
and whether some people's gaps
[55]
are actually more serious than this.
[57]
But on my device,
[58]
there is a very, very, very thin gap
[62]
which you can slide paper down.
[63]
So the next question,
[64]
over on Instagram again,
[66]
by nerdgrafx,
[68]
I think that's how you say it.
[69]
"I'd like to know how much better
[70]
the battery is on this device
[72]
paired with the lower end chip."
[74]
So now we can jump straight
[75]
into the battery then.
[76]
It has 4080 mAh battery.
[79]
It's the biggest battery on
[80]
all Pixel smartphones to date.
[83]
And what is great is that
[84]
they've actually kept the phone slim,
[87]
and still lightweight as well,
[89]
which is amazing.
[90]
Now the first day,
[92]
I got over about 7 hours screen-on time,
[95]
and it lasted a whole day.
[96]
I didn't have to charge at all.
[98]
But then since then,
[99]
it's not lasted me the whole day.
[102]
But, it is better than the Pixel 3 XL,
[106]
there is definitely better performance in battery.
[109]
But It normally takes me up to
[110]
around about 7-8 o'clock at night
[112]
before I need to charge it,
[113]
whereas my 3 XL
[116]
normally dies around about
[118]
3 o'clock - 4 o'clock.
[119]
Depended on how heavy I use the device.
[122]
In a nutshell,
[123]
yes, battery performance is
[125]
better on the Pixel 5,
[127]
but doesn't last me all day.
[129]
So I don't understand because
[130]
I've seen other YouTube reviews
[131]
and they're saying that
[133]
even heavy usage will last you
[135]
well over more than a day.
[136]
So I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
[138]
I don't know.
[138]
I charge it 100%, every night,
[141]
wake up in the morning and just use it.
[145]
Yeah, I don't know.
[146]
But, it is definitely better.
[148]
Now I want to cover quickly,
[150]
I don't know if anyone else
[151]
has covered this before,
[153]
but using the Pixel 5,
[155]
I've noticed it gets really hot
[157]
or gets rather hot and sort of overheats.
[161]
Now, I don't know if anyone
[161]
else has reported this,
[163]
but I was recording in 4k,
[166]
on this camera,
[167]
on this smartphone,
[168]
and it just stopped recording.
[169]
It couldn't record any more 4k
[171]
because it's too hot.
[172]
I got to around three minutes on one record,
[176]
I went back to the phone,
[177]
and it stopped recording
[178]
so I restarted again
[181]
and it got very hot around
[183]
the back here, around the camera.
[186]
So I started another one
[187]
and then it gave you the warning
[188]
that it's too hot.
[190]
There seems to be a overheating issue
[193]
with the Pixel 5 and recording 4k content.
[197]
When you do use this heavily,
[199]
with games and stuff like that,
[202]
it does get rather warm.
[204]
So it's definitely a hot Pixel phone.
[206]
So let me know in the comments below,
[207]
if you've heard about this
[208]
4k overheating on the Pixel 5,
[210]
let me know in the comments down below.
[212]
So let's jump into camera,
[214]
and I'm going to get him
[217]
to tell you about the camera.
[218]
So I'm gonna talk about the camera now,
[220]
and to be honest,
[221]
I don't want to bore you,
[222]
you've probably seen hundreds
[223]
and hundreds of videos on Pixel 5.
[226]
The Pixel camera is great.
[227]
It's really good, just like the 3 XL
[230]
that I've been using in the past.
[231]
They've got the same sensor,
[232]
the 12.2 megapixel main sensor,
[235]
and the pictures are brilliant.
[238]
Night sight is excellent as well.
[240]
So we have Portrait Night sight,
[243]
a normal Night Sight,
[245]
and Ultra-wide Night Sight.
[248]
Yes, the Pixel 5 has an ultra-wide camera,
[252]
which on the Pixel 4,
[253]
it didn't have the telephoto lens,
[254]
but they've got rid of the telephoto
[256]
and put in an ultra wide.
[257]
So I definitely prefer ultra-wide,
[260]
it looks absolutely brilliant.
[262]
So what I'm going to
[263]
show you on here is,
[265]
the stabilization, because
[266]
Google have added some great
[269]
Stabilization on the Pixel 5,
[271]
and there's a few options
[272]
that you can go through.
[273]
So jump into this phone with me right now.
[277]
Okay, here we go.
[278]
We're gonna open this camera up,
[280]
and we're gonna go to Video.
[284]
Pop this around, this way.
[288]
Okay, now we're in normal video
[291]
mode at the moment.
[291]
At the top you can see,
[293]
the top right hand corner,
[293]
there's a little hand with two
[295]
squiggly lines beside it,
[298]
and here are the video stabilization options.
[300]
So we have: Standard
[302]
so this is obviously, now.
[304]
So if we start recording video,
[310]
this is normal, smooth,
[313]
standard stabilization on the Pixel 5.
[318]
Next option we have: Locked.
[320]
Now this one, I'm not too sure about.
[324]
It zooms in two times,
[326]
like this, automatically.
[328]
So it's mainly for if you're
[329]
trying to take pictures or videos,
[333]
you know, still.
[334]
So let's try this, we'll record this.
[340]
So now I'm recording,
[341]
and if I move my phone a little bit,
[343]
tilt it, it's staying locked on
[345]
to the target, you see?
[346]
I'm wiggling around,
[348]
that's why you're seeing that fizzy motion.
[352]
And we'll just do that.
[353]
There we go.
[355]
So on here on camera,
[356]
you can see that it locks onto the target.
[358]
you can force it off, like that.
[362]
It works well, it definitely locks it.
[364]
But as you can see,
[366]
the quality isn't great.
[369]
Okay now, on below Locked,
[370]
is Active for heavy movement.
[373]
So stabilization should be stronger.
[375]
So if you record here,
[378]
move around, up and down, like this.
[382]
Shake up and down like that,
[383]
side by side.
[385]
But on here it looks if it's staying still.
[389]
Turn around, up and down.
[392]
So that's for heavy movements.
[393]
So maybe for cardio, for sports
[396]
and stuff like that.
[398]
And then if we click that
[399]
and at the bottom one: Cinematic Pan.
[403]
Click on this.
[404]
All this basically does is
[406]
it records footage,
[408]
but you won't really hear anything.
[409]
It was completely mood muted
[412]
and the video will be slowed down.
[414]
So slowed down for a cinematic effect.
[419]
So if we click Record,
[422]
Now, I'm coming around like this,
[426]
fairly quick,
[427]
but that'd be slow down on camera.
[433]
So it's sort of panned against this.
[439]
There we go.
[456]
So those are the stabilization options
[458]
now within the Pixel 5.
[460]
Stabilization is standard,
[462]
and the normal setting is absolutely brilliant.
[465]
It really keeps the video steady
[467]
when I've been testing it.
[469]
Absolutely amazing.
[470]
Works in 4k as well.
[472]
This has got 4k 60
[474]
built into the Pixel 5 now as well.
[476]
60 frames per second.
[477]
Stabilization on there was great as well.
[480]
Alright this is 4k 60
[482]
on the Pixel 5.
[484]
You going football training mate?
[486]
Son: Yeah.
[487]
Dad: Yeah?
[490]
This stabilization on here is absolutely insane.
[495]
So smooth.
[498]
They've really improved
[499]
the video quality on the Pixel 5.
[503]
To cut a long story short,
[504]
the Pixel 5 camera is brilliant,
[506]
and they've added some
[507]
extra video features.
[508]
Stabilisation, so stabilisation is better
[511]
than previous versions of Pixels.
[513]
So no need to worry
[514]
about the camera department.
[515]
Okay, so let's talk about
[517]
the general design of the Pixel 5
[519]
It's something that I really like,
[520]
and again, they've put a
[522]
huge battery in here,
[523]
but have kept it small and light,
[525]
which is great.
[526]
I really love that symmetrical bezel
[530]
around there as well.
[530]
It's really good.
[531]
Yes, we lose out with
[532]
the loudspeaker at the top.
[534]
It's under-the-glass loudspeaker,
[537]
and if you are a Pixel 5 user,
[539]
when I'm in WhatsApp
[540]
and I'm playing voice notes,
[541]
you can see a little dot at the top there
[543]
which is actually a proximity sensor.
[546]
So, for some reason it thinks
[548]
you're on a call when you're
[549]
playing voice notes on WhatsApp.
[551]
And when you cover that over,
[554]
the screen will go black.
[555]
It's got a lovely 1080p, 90 hertz display.
[559]
OLED, great viewing angles,
[561]
and just using it, it's so slick.
[563]
It's really, really nice.
[564]
A nice aluminium unibody,
[567]
a nice subtle fingerprint sensor
[569]
and the camera array.
[571]
There's a tiny, tiny little bump on there,
[574]
but nothing compared to
[575]
other phones I've seen.
[576]
It's nearly flush to the back.
[579]
Overall, I think the design is
[581]
simple, clean, and great.
[583]
So Pixel 5 is Google's flagship device
[586]
at a mid range price compared to
[588]
smartphones nowadays in this market.
[591]
It's got the Snapdragon 765G
[593]
and it's definitely not sluggish.
[596]
You can still play Call of Duty
[598]
with very high frame rate
[599]
which I played.
[600]
High graphics,
[601]
and it played absolutely fine,
[602]
absolutely smooth, no problem at all.
[605]
General use of the phone,
[606]
navigating through apps,
[607]
and using other games as well,
[609]
is absolutely fine.
[610]
The fluid, obviously,
[612]
the display's so smooth and silky.
[615]
Performance is great.
[617]
So performance wise,
[618]
there's absolutely no problems at all.
[620]
They've put the 765G in here,
[622]
which has been absolutely fine.
[623]
It suits it well.
[624]
I mean, yeah,
[626]
the Note 20 Ultra's got the 865.
[631]
What are going to do on that phone
[632]
that you can't do on this phone?
[634]
Really, you play the same games.
[637]
What...
[638]
I mean what is really the difference?
[640]
Are you really gonna notice the difference?
[642]
I don't believe you will.
[643]
But this Snapdragon 765G
[646]
in this phone is absolutely perfect.
[648]
So it's got eight gigabytes
[650]
of RAM in here as well,
[651]
so don't forget that.
[653]
The ability to have multiple apps
[655]
open at one time,
[656]
and navigating is easy with that as well.
[659]
Another thing I want to cover is the speakers.
[663]
Now on the Pixel 3 XL,
[665]
we had a great dual facing speakers,
[667]
bottom and top.
[669]
On here, we have one at the bottom,
[671]
and then we have one
[672]
under the glass there as well.
[674]
Now phone calls,
[676]
when taking phone calls,
[677]
the sound quality is absolutely fine.
[679]
And it sounds pretty familiar to what
[681]
any other smartphone earpiece
[683]
would sound like as well.
[685]
But if you see my unboxing video
[686]
when listening to music..
[689]
Don't trying to use it as the loudspeaker,
[691]
I think it's probably wasted,
[692]
It doesn't really act or add any sort of,
[694]
any, stereo spatial sort of sound, really.
[698]
Most of the power is coming from
[699]
this loudspeaker at the bottom.
[700]
The sound quality is great,
[702]
the sound quality is good.
[704]
But when you cover that at the bottom,
[706]
and you hear what's coming out of the top,
[707]
it's not even worth it.
[709]
In my opinion.
[710]
[music] That's full volume.
[711]
[music]
[714]
[music] Let's cover the bottom.
[716]
[music volume decreases]
[719]
[music]Wow, that's quiet...
[722]
[music]
[728]
[music] That's quite muddy,
[729]
[laughs] just with that one.
[731]
[music]
[735]
[music volume increases]
[744]
So, Google fantasticly decided to
[748]
get rid of the facial recognition,
[750]
which I'm not a big fan of.
[751]
They haven't opted for the
[752]
In-screen fingerprint sensor,
[754]
they've come back to the trusty,
[756]
reliable fingerprint sensor on the back.
[759]
A nice subtle fingerprint sensor
[761]
embedded in the back.
[762]
It's really nice,
[764]
it's responsive,
[765]
reliable, simple.
[767]
So obviously comes packed with Android 11.
[771]
Google, obviously updating all
[772]
their Google features:
[773]
Google assistant, and the old
[775]
operating system experiences.
[776]
Splendid, it's clean.
[778]
No bloatware or any rubbish like that.
[782]
It's probably...
[782]
It's the best.
[783]
It's the best operating system.
[785]
It's the best software,
[787]
and it works like a charm on this device.
[790]
So the Pixel 5 has reverse wireless charging.
[793]
Nice feature, It's also wireless.
[795]
Well, you can charge it wirelessly.
[797]
But I will not be using
[798]
the reverse wireless charging
[800]
purely because the phone,
[802]
personally, doesn't last me a whole day.
[803]
So I don't want to give this
[805]
battery to any other device.
[807]
So guys, that is pretty much it.
[808]
That's my review of the Pixel 5,
[810]
I'll quickly conclude.
[812]
The Pixel 5 is a brilliant smartphone.
[817]
I think it's priced a very,
[819]
very good price as well.
[820]
Performance is absolutely fine.
[822]
Camera.
[823]
You don't even have to
[824]
question the camera.
[824]
It's amazing.
[825]
They've added extra features as well.
[828]
The only bug which I found
[830]
is that 4k overheating,
[832]
but doesn't really bother me that much.
[835]
And the more I think about
[837]
this little gap at the edge,
[839]
I don't know, is it going to get worse?
[841]
I don't know.
[841]
Or is that just the way
[842]
it's supposed to be?
[844]
I think it seems if it's,
[846]
there's more of a gap on one side.
[849]
I'm not sure.
[851]
But that's it.
[853]
That's it, guys.
[854]
It is a great affordable phone,
[856]
especially when you compare
[858]
flagships nowadays.
[860]
I'd recommend it, definitely.
[862]
Go out and buy one.
[863]
I'll include links in the description below,
[865]
and also, massive thank you to Vodafone,
[869]
who sent me this phone
[871]
a couple of weeks ago.
[872]
I've had plenty of fun using it,
[876]
and now I have my own
[878]
contract one as well,
[879]
which I'll start using very soon.
[881]
Yeah so, links in the description guys,
[883]
to the Pixel 5,
[884]
over on Vodafone as well,
[886]
go and check them out.
[887]
Any questions, pop them down below.
[889]
Give the video a thumbs up.
[890]
Subscribe and I'll see you soon.
[892]
Bye-bye.
