MASSIVE Austin McBroom Allegations, Ace Family Counterclaims Of Extortion, & LeBron James Backlash - YouTube

Channel: Philip DeFranco

[0]
- Sup you beautiful bastards,
[1]
hope you've had a fantastic Tuesday.
[3]
Welcome back to the Philip Defranco show.
[4]
And a quick note before we get started.
[6]
I missed you guys yesterday,
[7]
obviously there wasn't a show.
[8]
Like I talked about on Thursday,
[9]
I had surgery over the weekend.
[10]
Also, since I've seen a number of people still asking,
[12]
"Why did you have to have surgery?"
[13]
I've actually talked about this in my podcast a little bit.
[15]
I decided to get a vasectomy.
[17]
I already have two fantastic boys,
[18]
I love them so much.
[19]
We do not want a third child.
[21]
And honestly, if we ever did change our minds,
[22]
we would likely just adopt.
[23]
And also, for those who are maybe thinking about it,
[25]
it's actually a very easy, painless, basic procedure.
[28]
You can actually do it in office,
[29]
and as far as the reason I was set up like this,
[31]
I was in no way comfortable with being awake
[33]
while it happened,
[33]
so I was like put my ass to sleep.
[35]
And also yes,
[36]
thanks to you beautiful bastards clowning on me
[38]
because we have that relationship,
[39]
I am aware that I look like the live action
[41]
version of Blue Toad.
[42]
Thank you for pointing that out.
[43]
Transparently, I am still a little sore and nauseous,
[46]
but I want to make sure that I came back
[48]
as fast as possible,
[48]
especially with the holiday breaks coming up.
[50]
But with that said buckle up,
[51]
definitely hit that like button,
[53]
and let's just jump into it.
[54]
And the first thing we're gonna talk about today
[55]
is more news around China,
[57]
which I will say I knew
[58]
that there was going to be more news around China,
[60]
but I personally expected the larger focus
[62]
to be on other Chinese investments in U.S. companies,
[64]
or at the very least foreign-owned companies
[66]
that largely service Americans.
[67]
But a lot of the focus ended up
[69]
being solely on the NBA again,
[70]
thanks to Lebron James.
[72]
And for those unfamiliar with this situation,
[74]
one, how dare you not watch my shows last week,
[76]
but two, to oversimplify and get you up to speed
[78]
a couple of weeks ago you had Rocket's GM Daryl Morey
[80]
tweeting a photo, saying, "Fight for Freedom.
[82]
"Stand with Hong Kong."
[83]
Right, a photo that seemed to express support
[84]
for pro-democracy protestors
[86]
that have been marching in the street since March.
[87]
But now, that said,
[88]
even though Morey ended up deleting that tweet
[90]
soon after posting it,
[91]
following this there was massive reaction.
[92]
You had things like China cutting ties
[94]
from the Houston Rockets,
[95]
although that was just kind of
[95]
one of many things we saw from China.
[97]
Two, you had the NBA kind of distancing itself from Morey,
[100]
but doing it in a certain way
[101]
with Adam Silver walking a weird line,
[103]
trying to appease both sides.
[104]
And you also had other players getting in the mix,
[106]
like that of James Harden,
[107]
who I'm not even gonna cover again.
[109]
And you also had American politicians criticizing the NBA
[111]
for bowing to China.
[112]
And, you know, like I said,
[113]
I thought the focus on the NBA,
[114]
it was going to kind of die down.
[115]
But then yesterday we saw Lebron James
[117]
say this to the media.
[118]
- We all do have freedom of speech,
[120]
but at times there are ramifications
[122]
for the negative that can happen
[125]
when you're not thinking about others.
[126]
You know, and you're only thinking about yourself.
[128]
So, I don't believe,
[130]
I don't want to get into a war,
[132]
a word or sentence feud with Deryl, with Deryl Morey,
[137]
but I believe he wasn't educated on the situation at hand,
[141]
and he spoke,
[143]
and so many people could have been harmed,
[147]
not only financially,
[148]
but physically, emotionally, spiritually.
[151]
So, just be careful what we tweet,
[153]
and what we say, and what we do,
[155]
even though, yes, we do have freedom of speech.
[157]
But there can be a lot of negative that comes with that too.
[160]
- It appears that he is not aware
[161]
that everything he just said
[162]
pertains also to him saying this.
[164]
But also, that's not the end of the story yet.
[166]
I'll kind of reserve my opinion until the end.
[167]
But, you know, following this there were a lot of opinions.
[169]
Notably you had Republican Senator
[170]
from Missouri Josh Hawley saying,
[172]
"Having just been in Hong Kong
[173]
"on the streets and with the protestors
[174]
"this kind of garbage is hard to take.
[176]
"Lebron, are you educated on the situation?
[178]
"Why don't you go to Hong Kong.
[180]
"Why don't you meet the people there risking their lives
[182]
"for their most basic liberties."
[183]
"This statement is unbelievable.
[184]
"'So many people could have been harmed'?
[186]
"By Daryl Morey daring to express sympathy for democracy?
[189]
"News flash: people are being harmed,
[191]
"shot, beaten, gassed
[193]
"right now in Hong Kong.
[194]
"By China.
[194]
"By the Communist Party the NBA is so eager to appease."
[197]
And, yes, we also saw reports of protestors in Hong Kong
[199]
trampling on and burning James's jersey.
[201]
Now later on twitter James attempted to clarify his comment,
[204]
tweeting, "Let me clear up the confusion.
[205]
"I do not believe there was any consideration
[207]
"for the consequences and ramifications of the tweet.
[209]
"I'm not discussing the substance.
[211]
"Others can talk about that.
[212]
"My team and this league just went through a difficult week.
[214]
"I think people need to understand
[215]
"what a tweet or statement can do to others.
[218]
"And I believe nobody stopped and considered
[219]
"what would happen.
[220]
"Could have waited a week to send it."
[222]
I know I said I was gonna wait until the end.
[223]
Does he seriously not realize the things that he is saying
[226]
pertains to what he is actually saying?
[228]
Regarding his issue about the timing and not the content,
[231]
there is never truly going to be a convenient time
[233]
to speak truth to power
[234]
when that power is cracking down on human rights.
[236]
You know who else probably had a rough week, James?
[238]
The people in Hong Kong.
[239]
And their problem around this situation likely isn't
[242]
that they have enough zeros in their bank account.
[244]
It's more that their liberties could go down to zero.
[246]
And understand, I say this as someone in the past,
[248]
and still believe now,
[249]
that it is disgusting when people have told you
[250]
to shut up and dribble.
[251]
But what I ask or rather hope to see
[253]
is that you take a moment
[254]
to not see any of kind of the backlash you're getting here
[256]
as just hate,
[257]
but really just try and take a moment
[258]
to examine if what you're saying here
[259]
it oozes of ignorance,
[261]
it oozes of hypocrisy
[262]
because from the outside looking in,
[264]
based off of what you and others have put out there,
[266]
it very much appears that you are prioritizing your bag
[269]
over the potential body bags we're gonna see
[270]
coming out of Hong Kong.
[271]
Also, on the note of Hong Kong and China, what's happening.
[274]
Over the weekend 201 people were arrested,
[276]
some as young as 14 years old.
[277]
This as we enter the 19th week of protests
[280]
where we actually saw a noticeable ramp-up in violence.
[282]
This time pro-democracy protestors pleading
[283]
for American lawmakers to pass law
[285]
that would support Hong Kong's freedom and democracy.
[287]
And that law, the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act,
[289]
actually has bipartisan support in Congress.
[291]
And according to that bill,
[292]
it would "access whether China
[293]
"has eroded Hong Kong's civil liberties
[295]
"and rule of law as proctected by Hong Kong's Basic Law,"
[297]
which would also allow the President
[298]
to "provide Congress an assessment as to whether
[301]
"to withdraw from the U.S. Hong Kong extradition treaty,
[303]
"and what actions are needed
[304]
"to protect U.S. citizens and national security interests
[306]
"if Hong Kong, one, amends its Laws
[308]
"to allow the rendition of individuals to countries
[310]
"that lack defendants' rights protections,
[311]
"or, two, passes a national security law."
[313]
And actually one of the cosponsors of that bill is Hawley,
[315]
which is why he took that trip to Hong Kong,
[317]
who while there actually criticized police
[319]
for making the crisis worse and using unnecessary force.
[321]
Also saying that the city
[322]
is in "danger of sliding into a police state."
[324]
Which, on that note
[325]
we saw Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam respond
[327]
to Hawley's criticism.
[327]
In a press conference she said
[328]
that Hong Kong police are civilized and professional,
[330]
and on the note of Hawley's comment
[332]
she said, quote,
[333]
- I thought that visit to Hong Kong
[335]
would enable them to see the actual situation
[338]
in a comprehensive and objective manner,
[342]
but unfortunately the feedback that I've gotten
[345]
is most of them, or several of them coming here,
[349]
they have very preconceived views
[352]
about Hong Kong's situation,
[354]
and that's why for this particular senator
[357]
to describe Hong Kong as becoming a "police state"
[363]
is totally irresponsible and unfounded.
[366]
- Then asking U.S. lawmakers how they would respond
[368]
to large-scale violent acts if it were in their own country.
[370]
And around this we saw Hawley swing back on Twitter,
[372]
saying, "I chose the words 'police state' purposely
[374]
"because that is exactly what Hong Kong is becoming.
[376]
"I saw it myself.
[376]
"If Carrie Lam wants to demonstrate otherwise,
[378]
"here's an idea: resign."
[380]
Now, as far as where things go from here,
[381]
Lam is expected to give her annual policy address tomorrow.
[384]
In that she's expected
[385]
to address her plans to solve the protest.
[387]
And as far as China's response to this whole situation,
[389]
President Xi, he said,
[390]
and honestly this could've because he was hangry,
[392]
he didn't get that morning honey.
[393]
He said Sunday night that any attempts to split China
[395]
would result in "bodies smashed and bones ground to powder."
[399]
But hey, ultimately, that's where we are with the situation.
[401]
And as far as my opinion around this,
[402]
one, to kinda just start with Lebron James,
[404]
I will say I'm disappointed for someone
[406]
that usually speaks their values.
[408]
You know, we've seen stories
[409]
about the domestic good that he has provided.
[411]
I personally find this to be a sad and disgraceful moment.
[413]
I'd like to see Lebron James come with that same energy
[415]
when he called Donald Trump "a bum" to talk about Xi.
[418]
Also seemingly making yourself and the NBA the victim
[421]
in this situation,
[422]
that doesn't feel great with me.
[423]
And it really makes me think back
[424]
to the stuff that you said
[425]
in the past 24 to 36 hours.
[427]
Right, did you think
[428]
about the ramifications of your comments?
[430]
Did you think about actually being educated on this topic?
[433]
Because China?
[434]
They love the propaganda you just served.
[436]
Boom, China Daily.
[437]
Lebron James says Daryl Morey was not educated
[440]
on the situation at hand.
[441]
But hey,
[442]
ultimately that's where I'm gonna end that one today.
[443]
Of course, there's the story, some of my opinion,
[445]
and, of course, I'd love to know your thoughts on this.
[447]
But from that I want to share some stuff I love today.
[450]
And Today in Awesome brought to you by Phil.Ting.com
[452]
And Ting, if you don't know,
[453]
does mobile phone service differently,
[455]
and it's helping people save a lot of money
[456]
on their monthly cell phone bills.
[458]
There's no contracts, overage fees,
[459]
or any other carrier tricks.
[461]
And so you just pay a fair price
[462]
for the talk, text, and data
[463]
that you actually end up using each month.
[464]
And so, with Ting if you use less, if you use smarter,
[467]
you pay less.
[468]
And Ting also gives you complete control
[469]
of your cellphone account.
[470]
If you want to set alerts, or caps for each device
[472]
on your account to keep your usage in check.
[473]
Plus, their nationwide LTE coverage
[475]
means you'll get great network coverage
[476]
from coast to coast.
[477]
And almost any phone will work with Ting,
[479]
from the most ancient flip phone,
[480]
to the latest Galaxy or iPhone.
[482]
And to kinda compare Ting customers
[483]
pay and average of $23 per month for one device.
[485]
So, visit Phil.Ting.com
[487]
to check your phone's compatibility right now,
[488]
and get $25 off your first bill.
[490]
And the first bit of awesome today is
[492]
actually a reminder.
[493]
And I'm also saying this because
[494]
as I mentioned earlier I'm not still feeling 100%.
[496]
I likely won't get to all the stories I want to cover today.
[498]
But if you want to consume more news
[500]
than what I'm just including in this show,
[502]
be sure to head on over
[503]
to roguerocket.com after each episode.
[504]
For example, on site today we have a piece
[506]
on the Fort Worth officer who shot a woman in her home
[508]
arrested and charged with murder.
[510]
We also saw and covered the Delete Facebook trend,
[512]
which reportedly happened
[512]
after Zuckerburg met with Conservatives.
[514]
You had people defending and going after the company.
[516]
And in fact, in addition to those articles
[518]
today we also put out a brand new Explainer video
[520]
because a lot of people just kind of throw things around.
[522]
We had the team look at and try to break down
[524]
what impeachment actually looks like,
[525]
and how it is supposed to work.
[527]
And so be sure to check out any and all of that.
[528]
Then, we got the Honest Trailer for "Zombieland,"
[531]
and the official trail for "The Bronx, USA,"
[533]
otherwise known as da Bronx.
[535]
We also had Liza Koshy with Teen Vogue
[537]
guessing how 2074 fans responded to a survey about her.
[539]
Also, not a bash on Liza herself.
[541]
She's a fantastic person.
[543]
But, yes YouTube,
[544]
you can stop recommending the first episode
[546]
of her new season.
[546]
I've seen it.
[547]
We're good.
[548]
The Atlantic gave us
[549]
the people behind incredible hurricane animal rescues.
[550]
We had Conde Nast Traveler
[551]
giving us 50 people telling us their state's best drink.
[554]
And to answer the question no one was asking,
[555]
my favorite drinks involve bourbon and/or, wait, and/or?
[558]
Or tequila.
[560]
What just absolute psychopath is mixing bourbon and tequila.
[563]
We had Kevin Smith breaking down
[563]
"Jay and Silent Bob" fan theories.
[565]
And if you want to see the full versions
[566]
of everything I just shared,
[567]
the secret link of the day,
[568]
really anything at all,
[570]
links, as always, are in the description down below.
[572]
And then let's talk about arguably
[573]
one of the most talked about things
[575]
on social media in the past 24 hours.
[577]
Let's talk about Austin McBroom and the Ace Family.
[580]
And for those unfamiliar, Austin is the father
[582]
in the Ace Family,
[583]
which is just a massive family vlog channel on YouTube.
[586]
Per video they get anywhere
[587]
between 3.6 to 8 plus million views.
[589]
And while Austin is no stranger to controversies,
[592]
the allegations being thrown around
[593]
in this situation were far heavier.
[595]
And this is because another creator
[596]
by the name of Cole Carrigan released a video
[598]
called the truth about he Ace family,
[600]
and in it you have Cole starting off by mentioning rumors
[602]
that Austin's been cheating on his wife Catherine,
[604]
but the reason this has blown up so much
[606]
is that the allegations in his video go much further
[608]
than just cheating
[609]
with Cole saying that his friend was assaulted
[610]
by Austin, Austin's father, and another acquaintance
[613]
in Miami back in June.
[614]
And Cole said that he was making this video
[615]
on his friend's behalf
[616]
because it's hard for women to come forward
[617]
with these kinds of things,
[618]
especially when the man in question
[619]
is as prominent as Austin McBroom.
[621]
Also saying that they had signed an NDA.
[623]
Remember, to try and kind of make sense of this
[624]
let's dive into the accusations at hand.
[626]
You had Cole saying that his friend
[627]
along with another girl had been drinking
[629]
and went back to their hotel room to change,
[630]
adding that Austin, his security guard,
[632]
his father, and two other men followed them to their room.
[634]
- Obviously I don't have recordings
[635]
of what went down in the room,
[637]
but my friend told me that she repeatedly said no
[641]
multiple times, over and over and over,
[644]
to the point where she started crying
[647]
and begging them to stop.
[649]
That's when they forced themselves in her,
[651]
and I will insert the photos
[654]
of the blood all over the bed sheets
[656]
in the hotel room right here.
[658]
- Cole then proceeds to allegedly call this friend
[660]
on the phone,
[661]
using a filter or a modulator
[662]
to make make that voice unrecognizable.
[664]
This person goes on to say the guys had come into their room
[666]
and were being flirty,
[666]
but they were too drunk to even try to push them off.
[669]
- [Obscured Voice] But the next thing I remember is,
[672]
unfortunately, being on the bed,
[674]
and his NBA player friend was having sex with me.
[679]
I don't ever remember giving him consent to.
[683]
The next thing I remember is looking up,
[685]
and Austin's dad Allen is there,
[689]
and I am seeing him unbuckle his pants,
[692]
pull down his pants,
[693]
and pull out his penis in front of my face,
[696]
basically wanting me to suck his penis.
[699]
- And she goes on to say
[700]
that she remembers a security guard walking in,
[702]
and then going in to check on her friend.
[703]
And then adding,
[704]
- All of a sudden I hear her yelling "no,"
[707]
and screaming and crying,
[711]
and all of the guys start rushing
[713]
around the room because my friend
[714]
is literally hysterical crying and sobbing,
[717]
and she's just sitting in the shower,
[720]
and then after that we just got in bed,
[724]
and we were just crying for the rest of the night.
[726]
- And in the video Cole includes a number of screenshots.
[728]
This, including a Austin and his dad in Miami
[731]
on the night of June, 21st,
[732]
which is one day before the alleged incident.
[734]
Cole also showing texts
[735]
that he said his fried sent the next morning,
[736]
one where they were sort of avoiding Austin and his friends.
[739]
Another alleged screenshot where one of the girls
[740]
told their ex that lives in Miami
[742]
that something had happened.
[743]
Cole also posting alleged screenshots
[745]
of his friend and Austin sending pictures and messages
[747]
about the girls Austin wanted her to bring,
[749]
and another allegedly of Austin's assistant
[750]
telling her to stop Cole from telling the story
[752]
because she could be looking at serious consequences.
[754]
And Cole also including other alleged screenshots
[756]
and stories from other girls,
[757]
who claim to have interacted with Austin,
[759]
one of which includes a girl claiming she got pregnant.
[761]
But a big thing I want to note here:
[762]
these are allegations.
[763]
We have not independently verified the authenticity
[765]
of these screenshots.
[766]
We're talking about what's being alleged,
[767]
what is being shared and has blown up,
[769]
and then we talk about the reaction.
[771]
And this video has since blown up.
[773]
As of recording this it has over three million views.
[775]
And keep in mind that is just on YouTube.
[777]
That doesn't even consider everything we've been seeing
[779]
all over social media.
[780]
And this story is part of the reason
[781]
that maybe if you logged on to Twitter
[782]
you saw #acefamilyisoverparty trending.
[784]
I mean, you had people calling Austin a rapist,
[786]
his wife Catherine a gold digger.
[788]
You also had other people posting screenshots
[789]
of other alleged interactions,
[791]
but once again it's just unclear if those are real or not,
[794]
which on that note Catherine
[795]
from the Ace family seemed to acknowledge this,
[796]
making it seem like a lot of the screenshots were fake,
[798]
tweeting, "I don't know who's worse?
[800]
"The person who photoshops conversations,
[802]
"or the people who believe it?
[803]
"Next.
[804]
"Can't break us ever."
[804]
And with that caption she posted
[805]
what appears to be a fake conversation
[807]
of her telling Kanye West that she's pregnant with his baby.
[809]
But then we see a twist to this story.
[811]
There is a screenshot
[812]
from what appears to be one of the girls in this story.
[815]
She allegedly posted this to Instagram,
[816]
then deleting it.
[817]
And in it she writes, "To speak on this video
[819]
"that Cole Carrigan posted,
[820]
"some of you have already figured out
[822]
"that I'm the other girl they're talking about in the video.
[824]
"I feel like this video was made for the wrong reasons,
[826]
"and this wasn't Cole's story to tell.
[828]
"Cole even texted me
[829]
saying we could potentially get paid $100 thousand
[831]
from this,
[832]
"following the claim that Drama Alert
[833]
"was paid off $500 thousand.
[834]
"Swipe right to see texts."
[835]
Then adding, "I wasn't even aware Amanda or Cole
[837]
"were in contact with Drama Alert
[839]
"to anonymously run our story.
[840]
"But I was aware of Cole's video being made,
[842]
"and I only wanted it to be factual
[843]
"if it was ever going to be posted.
[844]
"I wanted to say that Austin McBroon
[846]
"is not to blame in the situation,
[847]
"and did not rape me or anyone.
[849]
"I'm currently handling this situation in my own way.
[851]
"I brought this to social media
[852]
"to address the false accusations.
[854]
"This isn't what I wanted,
[855]
"there's several sides to every story,
[856]
"and this isn't how I wanted to tell mine."
[858]
And the other photo in that post
[859]
is an alleged conversation she had with Cole,
[861]
which allegedly says, "but the point of this
[863]
"is to not upload a video.
[864]
"The point of this is to scare them into paying us off
[866]
"because they paid Drama Alert $500k.
[868]
" So I'm sure they would pay me $100k or more
[871]
"not to say shit,
[872]
"and then I would split that with you guys
[873]
"if you help me and send me all the receipts that I need."
[876]
First, like regarding where this claim
[877]
that $500 thousand was paid to Drama Alert
[880]
to spike this story, right,
[881]
to not cover it.
[882]
That appears to be coming from a text exchange
[883]
between Cole and Keemstar from Drama Alert,
[885]
where I would say that it appears apparent
[887]
to pretty much anyone that hasn't been on the receiving end
[890]
of a brain injury
[891]
that that is sarcasm.
[892]
And two, if these text messages are real,
[894]
they are to be believed,
[895]
it appears that regarding Cole's $100 thousand comment
[899]
that looks like extortion.
[900]
We also this morning saw Austin respond to this controversy
[902]
and the allegations,
[903]
writing "If you have not heard,
[904]
"I have recently been a victim
[905]
"of extortion, defamation, and slander.
[908]
"I knew this was a cold world,
[909]
"but never did I foresee something
[910]
"this disturbing upon me.
[911]
"Thank you to all of my Ace Family members
[913]
"for all of your concerns
[914]
"and thank you to those who know my character and my heart.
[916]
"I don't wish this upon anyone,
[917]
"and can only hope
[918]
"that those responsible for this
[919]
"learn from their mistakes and become better people.
[921]
"My family and I are dealing with this matter privately,
[923]
"and are taking legal action.
[924]
"Bullying, extortion, slander, and defamation of character
[927]
"is something I will not stand for,
[928]
"and can promise that justice will be served."
[930]
And then sharing those previous screenshots
[931]
that we were just talking about.
[932]
But, yeah.
[933]
Ultimately that's where we are with this story right now.
[935]
It is going to be very interesting
[936]
to see the further fall out from this.
[937]
Personally, I'm waiting to see more information.
[939]
Also, given the updates, we've reached out for comment
[942]
from Austin as well as Cole.
[943]
Right but really understand, this is not a drama story.
[946]
Same kind of thing that I said
[947]
when the James Charles scandal happened, right.
[949]
A lot of people were talking
[949]
about gummy bear vitamins there.
[951]
On the public of platforms allegations of illegal conduct
[954]
are being made.
[955]
And on this massive scale in a public form,
[956]
not in a courtroom,
[957]
we are seeing allegations
[958]
of assault, extortion, defamation of character.
[962]
And that's why I say
[963]
it'll be interesting to see what happens from here
[964]
because in the past we've kind of seen just situations,
[966]
at least from the public view, go away.
[968]
You have people kind of just believing
[970]
what they want to believe,
[970]
but I feel like we're going to start seeing
[972]
more and more consequences.
[974]
But hey, that's the story as it is now.
[976]
Things are still developing.
[977]
Allegations being thrown left and right.
[979]
So we'll have to wait to see what happens next.
[980]
But while we wait, of course,
[982]
I would love to know your thoughts on this.
[983]
And that's where I'm going to end today's show.
