Channel: Yellow Productions
[0]
the best food markets in London I'm
[2]
Chris this is yellow productions and in
[3]
this video I'm going to be telling you
[5]
some of the best places to get food in
[7]
outdoor or maybe indoor markets and food
[10]
halls across London and the first market
[12]
I'm going to be starting with is this
[13]
one it's Borough Market this market has
[16]
been in London since about the 12th
[18]
century so it's been here for quite a
[20]
long time this is the quintessential
[22]
tourist market which means it's really
[24]
busy you are likely to be here with
[26]
two-thirds of all of the tourists in
[28]
London but it's definitely worth a visit
[30]
here it is just on the south bank of the
[34]
London Bridge and if you're coming to
[37]
this market the best days are Wednesday
[40]
through Saturday it is closed on Sundays
[42]
Monday and Tuesday it's a limited market
[44]
this market is best at lunch so let's
[46]
check out this market and some of the
[48]
other best markets in London here we go
[49]
part of the appeal of Borough Market is
[51]
definitely its layout which really
[53]
encourages you to explore some of the
[55]
stands are under the tracks under
[57]
bridges summer outside summer under
[59]
awnings and none of its really straight
[63]
lines you have to meander around corners
[66]
underneath arches and you can even get
[69]
free samples don't mind if I do some pea
[74]
for you whether you're looking for fresh
[76]
truffles or some fine aged cheese that
[79]
you'll find it all here didn't even get
[80]
illuminated cheese this is quite an
[83]
impressive cheese display the stalls
[85]
here also range from produce to prepared
[89]
food that you'd cook later to food
[90]
that's ready to eat right now and it is
[93]
London's of course you'll find some
[95]
fabulous loose leaf tea of course you'll
[97]
find delicious Indian food as well since
[100]
Indian food I think has become the
[101]
British national cuisine for something
[103]
traditionally British pick up a meat pie
[105]
with mashed potatoes behind the side
[108]
six-fifty this stall is roasting up the
[111]
whole hog literally it's the whole hog
[114]
roasted first time I've seen that in a
[116]
street market all the seafood you'd ever
[118]
dream of including fresh lobsters and
[121]
what's really neat has a lot of these
[123]
stalls have a hygiene rating so you can
[125]
tell you're not going to
[126]
sic here a selection of fresh soups
[128]
needs to up here this is actually hot
[131]
mulled apple juice if you don't want
[133]
apple juice but you prefer to drink
[135]
grass you can do that here to club these
[137]
vendors and have their food set up in
[139]
big skillets looks and smells delicious
[142]
you don't just have to see where the
[144]
biggest line is but you can smell it as
[146]
you're walking by this stalls grilling
[149]
up some big boston burgers and big
[152]
sausage buns
[153]
the only real con i see of this market
[155]
is there not a lot of seats you'll find
[157]
a few seating areas scattered around the
[159]
chances are you'll be standing most of
[161]
the time oh it is good to know there are
[163]
clean toilets and you won't have to
[165]
spend a fortune on drinking water either
[167]
because they've got these water bottle
[169]
fillers you haven't had breakfast yet
[170]
and you're here really early you can
[172]
stop by Maria's market cafe get a whole
[174]
bunch of different breakfast items
[176]
pretty cheap if you like coffee then
[178]
you'll definitely want to stop by
[179]
Monmouth evidenced by the long line for
[182]
coffee supposed to be one of London's
[183]
best coffees supposed to be I didn't
[186]
stand in that line for one of the
[187]
markets most iconic food stop by brindis
[190]
em pick up the double chorizo roll it's
[193]
got two pieces of chorizo roll arugula
[195]
and some spicy peppers in there all for
[197]
six pounds it is the only prepared food
[200]
this stall sells it's right in the outer
[201]
Market just left of the big Borough
[204]
Market awning when let's dive into this
[206]
check it out and for dessert I picked up
[211]
some goat's milk ice cream salted
[213]
caramel and strawberries and cream five
[216]
pounds for this little scoop of
[217]
deliciousness but it's a good way to
[219]
mellow out the spiciness of the chorizo
[221]
it actually got pretty spicy in the end
[224]
it's one of those that builds on you and
[225]
this goat's milk ice cream pretty smooth
[228]
and doesn't have some of the lactose
[229]
things that know
[231]
milk would have cow milk would have well
[233]
not quite no lactose but less lactose
[235]
you know how I know the cup told me so
[237]
don't miss the second part of the market
[240]
under the green market archway it's
[242]
right across the street also make sure
[244]
to explore the surrounding alleys really
[246]
a lot of food vendors around here you
[248]
won't be hungry another great place for
[250]
street food in London is a Camden Market
[252]
Camden Market has a lot of food vendors
[254]
but the biggest collective of them is at
[257]
kirb kirb at Camden they've got 34
[260]
different vendors that sell street food
[262]
ranging from Thai noodles to mac and
[264]
cheese to buns to ribs a lot of
[267]
delicious stuff here best part about
[269]
this street food market is they are open
[271]
364 days a year they start cooking for
[274]
lunch at 11 a.m. and then they're open
[276]
till 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. every night and
[278]
to find a kerb well if you go to the
[281]
Camden Town tube station just walk until
[283]
you get to the canal which is right here
[286]
behind me and you just go past the lock
[289]
the Camden Lock and then you'll find
[291]
these 34 delicious food vendors what I
[295]
love about this market like a lot of
[296]
London markets is the vendors put out
[299]
samples of their food and not plastic
[301]
replicas like Japan but actual things
[303]
they cooked when the morning starts so
[305]
you can see exactly what you're gonna
[307]
get so what did I get I got a kotti roll
[310]
it's a coterie roll it's kind of like a
[312]
northern Indian burrito it's made with
[314]
some flatbread with some egg on it some
[316]
house-made chutneys that would include
[318]
some tamarind sauce with the squeeze of
[321]
lime pickled onions all rolled up pretty
[323]
delicious it's a very intricate flavor
[326]
the tamarind the yogurt and the slightly
[328]
spicy chicken and the hot flatbread with
[331]
the egg super delicious check that out 7
[335]
pound 50p for dessert i got some dutch
[337]
pancakes 10 pancakes white chocolate
[340]
strawberries 5 pounds then I mentioned
[343]
you'll find everything here you'll find
[344]
everything even
[346]
new york-style pizza at voodoo rays when
[349]
most of the other markets are closed on
[350]
Sunday this one's hoppin this is Brick
[352]
Lane it's so busy on Sundays 10:00 to
[355]
5:00 p.m. they actually closed off the
[357]
street to cars because there's so many
[359]
people walking up on it the food vendors
[361]
they just set up on the side of the
[363]
street you'll find some of them inside a
[365]
building there's a Brick Lane food hall
[367]
as well but I thought one of the coolest
[370]
food vendors was right behind me it's
[372]
that black taxi right there the streets
[374]
closed off but that's the black taxi
[376]
coffee company dude is making coffee out
[380]
of a London black cab that is pretty
[383]
neat lots of great food here Chinese
[387]
food Japanese food even Mexican food so
[391]
let's take a look at some of the other
[392]
tasty things on offer at this market I
[394]
was particularly impressed by the street
[397]
side ramen bar these places have full-on
[400]
gas grills big pots I mean they go all
[405]
out of these Street markets
[406]
this stands grilling up some really big
[409]
sausages you can get the big one with
[411]
cheese and drink for six pounds some
[413]
more Indian food on display along with
[416]
some really delicious looking Mexican
[418]
food given samples of those fajitas
[420]
here's some Chinese food fried rice and
[422]
noodles and this one says authentic
[425]
Japanese food but taking a closer look
[427]
this is definitely Korean inspired
[429]
Japanese
[430]
and there's also real Korean food at the
[433]
Korean rice bowl stand Italian pasta
[435]
pesto and alfredo sauces Chinese steamed
[438]
and pan-fried dumplings and I think one
[441]
of the most unusual stalls this one's
[443]
selling live the weenie in food they've
[445]
got lots of Meatballs for sure for
[448]
dessert there's more of those little
[449]
Dutch pancakes and this guy's got a cool
[451]
wooden windmill to wash it all down you
[454]
can get some fresh squeezed sugarcane
[457]
juice or this stand sells their drinks
[460]
from a bicycle either mulled wine or
[462]
apple cider just a couple blocks from
[464]
brick lane also in Shoreditch is this
[466]
two-story thing of shipping containers
[469]
it's called box Park it has 60 different
[471]
vendors in it about half of them are
[473]
food stalls particularly up on the
[476]
second floor they're interconnected one
[478]
by one they've also got bars and things
[481]
like that interspersed between the
[482]
shipping containers where they created
[484]
some open space voodoo Ray's definitely
[486]
seems to be the biggest one that's New
[488]
York Pizza place it takes up three
[490]
shipping containers but there's little
[492]
shipping containers of donuts little
[494]
shipping containers of ice cream little
[496]
shipping containers of curry so if you
[498]
want to be really cool this place looks
[500]
hip and trendy boxpark is definitely the
[502]
place to go to cram into a shipping
[505]
container and get some noodles this next
[508]
one it's in the same neighborhood as the
[509]
last to its old Spitalfields market it's
[512]
about a seven minute walk from the box
[514]
park here it's a regular flea market
[517]
they've got some permanent stalls but
[519]
indoor stalls I mean technically it's
[521]
all covered and under a roof so maybe
[523]
this is more of a food haul than Street
[524]
food but it's worth mentioning anyway
[527]
because there's tons of tasty food here
[529]
and while there are permanent things
[531]
like wagamama
[532]
and more restaurants there's also a lot
[535]
of little things like whatever got
[537]
behind me
[537]
yum fun money's deli there's Indian
[540]
Street food I really liked it there was
[543]
a pizza place that brought in a big
[544]
pizza oven on kind of a truck there's
[547]
also a guy cooking a pasta
[549]
he says it's Italian pasta pasta
[551]
carbonara no cream just like it is in
[554]
Italy so scour out this market for some
[557]
tasty eats and this whole flea market
[560]
section too so you can pick up some
[562]
cheap stuff while you're here too or
[564]
some expensive stuff depending upon what
[566]
kind of things you buy from those stalls
[568]
but hopefully good food so what did I
[570]
get to eat here I got the pasta
[572]
carbonara
[573]
from the guy in that little truck back
[575]
there the pasta truck and yes the pasta
[577]
carbonara with no cream just like it's
[579]
made in Italy it was pretty good seven
[581]
pounds big filling a bowl of it only
[584]
thing that makes it not quite Italian
[586]
they used Italian ham pancetta instead
[589]
of guanciale that's how it'll be served
[591]
in Rome and then to wash it all down I
[593]
got some Taiwanese fruit tea you know
[596]
when I eat all this highly fattening
[599]
food amazing I don't gain a thousand
[601]
pounds but I gotta have my fruit in here
[603]
so I like to mmm drink it too this teas
[607]
quite fruity 4 pounds 75 pence
[610]
definitely not cheap for this drink but
[613]
it is lovely and refreshing particularly
[616]
after the slightly salty but really good
[619]
pasta thanks for watching if you enjoyed
