[8]
- [Narrator] Born into a small community
[10]
outside of Charlotte, North Carolina,
[11]
Braun Strowman was a natural athlete.
[14]
He competed in track and field, football,
[16]
and wrestling throughout high school.
[18]
This is also in Strowman would turn into a giant,
[20]
growing from five foot, eight inches
[23]
to six foot five inches in about four years.
[26]
After high school, Braun would attend community college
[28]
and worked a few different jobs
[30]
like being a doorman and a mechanic.
[32]
In 2007, he attended a football Scouting Combine
[35]
to try and get signed by an NFL team,
[37]
but it didn't work out.
[39]
Braun Strowman then turned his attention
[40]
to strongman competitions.
[42]
He found success in the sport
[43]
and won a number of awards during his career.
[46]
This caught the attention of WWE, and Strowman began
[48]
training at the Performance Center in 2013.
[51]
While in development, the six foot eight giant came up
[54]
with the ring name, Braun Strowman,
[56]
Braun being a reference to the baseball player Ryan Braun,
[59]
and Strowman playing off the word strong man.
[62]
His first appearance in WWE was famously
[64]
as one of Adam Rose's Rosebuds.
[66]
In late 2014, Strowman would start wrestling
[69]
at non televised NXT events.
[71]
Unlike other WWE wrestlers in development,
[73]
Strowman would make his debut in NXT,
[76]
The Monster Among Men instead went straight
[78]
to the main roster, debuting on RAW in mid 2015,
[81]
Strowman suddenly appeared in the ring
[83]
during a tag team match between Dean Ambrose,
[85]
Roman Reigns and The Wyatt Family.
[87]
Braun manhandled both of The Shield boys
[89]
and aligned himself with Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper.
[92]
After making two enemies on his first night in WWE,
[95]
the giant was ready for his first match.
[99]
The next week, the Wyatts were in the ring
[101]
and Bray properly introduced the audience to Braun Strowman.
[105]
Once they were finished,
[106]
Strowman's opponent Dean Ambrose made his entrance.
[109]
Dean wasn't alone though.
[110]
Roman Reigns' music hit and the Big Dog came marching
[113]
through the crowd towards the ring.
[115]
Once the referee signaled for the bell,
[117]
the match officially started.
[119]
Ambrose did get the first shots in,
[120]
but was quickly knocked down by Strowman.
[123]
Before Dean could get up,
[124]
Braun lifted his opponent into the air
[126]
and sent him flying across the ring.
[128]
Once wasn't enough, so Braun Strowman threw Ambrose's body
[131]
again to the opposite side of the squared circle,
[134]
The Wyatt family member was courteous enough
[136]
to let Dean Ambrose get back to his feet
[138]
only for Braun to knock them back down with a strike.
[141]
Strowman's relaxed attitude ended up hurting them
[143]
as it allowed Ambrose to land a few blows.
[146]
Braun quickly regained control
[147]
and smacked Dean in the stomach,
[149]
knocking the wind out of his opponent.
[151]
The Monster then ran the ropes
[153]
and gave the Lunatic Fringe a boot
[155]
that pushed him out of the ring.
[156]
Not waiting around, the bearded beast followed Dean
[159]
to the outside and slammed him into the ringside barricade.
[162]
Strowman continued to inflict pain on Ambrose
[164]
while also taunting Roman Reigns.
[166]
Things turned to chaos after Braun shoved Reigns
[169]
causing the future head of table to fight back.
[172]
The match ended in a disqualification win
[174]
for Braun Strowman, but the fight continued.
[176]
Dean and Roman tried to take down The Monster Among Men
[179]
but Strowman was unstoppable.
[181]
Even a steel chair wasn't enough to do any damage to Braun.
[185]
Luke Harper eventually got into the ring,
[187]
kicking the air around Reigns' head
[188]
and sending the Big Dog to the mat.
[190]
With their enemies defeated the Wyatts gathered in the ring
[193]
and relished in their victory.
[195]
Honestly, this is a good first match.
[197]
I like that Braun debuted the week before
[199]
so there was a storyline going into his debut match.
[202]
Strowman looked really dominant throughout
[204]
and being able to manhandle both Dean Ambrose
[206]
and Roman Reigns made him feel like a legit threat.
[209]
That feeling continued into Braun's
[211]
first pay-per-view match,
[212]
where he teamed up with Wyatt and Harper
[213]
against Reigns, Ambrose and Chris Jericho.
[216]
The black sheep of the Wyatt family
[218]
led his team to victory by making Jericho pass out.
[221]
Braun Strowman's dominance continued
[222]
through the rest of 2015,
[224]
with Braun and the other Wyatts closing up the year
[226]
with a victory over the ECW Originals.
[229]
2016 also started out strong for Strowman.
[232]
He entered into his first "Royal Rumble" match
[234]
and eliminated the most participants.
[236]
Nothing major happened for the next few months,
[238]
but Strowman continued to make regular appearances on TV.
[241]
The Wyatt Family even defeated the tag team champions
[243]
The New Day, in a non-title match.
[246]
However, Braun'd be separated from the group
[248]
when he was drafted to RAW
[249]
while the others went to SmackDown.
[251]
The move kicked off a new chapter in Strowman's career.
[254]
For the first while The Monster Among Men
[256]
would just destroy local competitors in very quick matches,
[259]
the most notable being his fight with James Ellsworth.
[262]
Braun Strowman's first rivalry as a singles competitor
[264]
started when he disrespected luchadores.
[267]
This got the attention of Sin Cara,
[269]
and the two had several matches
[270]
with Braun winning every time.
[272]
After that, Strowman was scheduled to have a match
[274]
against Sami Zayn on RAW.
[275]
It never happened though,
[277]
due to the two attacking each other
[278]
before the bell could be rung.
[280]
They would go at it at "Roadblock: End of the Line"
[282]
pay-per-view with a special stipulation.
[285]
If Braun Strowman couldn't defeat Zayn in 10 minutes,
[287]
then he would lose.
[288]
Sammy survived the time limit making him the winner.
[291]
It wasn't over yet though.
[292]
The feud culminated with a Last Man Standing match on RAW
[296]
where Braun reigned supreme.
[298]
At the 2017 Royal Rumble,
[299]
Strowman interfered in Roman Reigns'
[301]
Universal Championship match against Kevin Owens.
[304]
It was later found out that Owens
[306]
had set up the entire thing
[307]
promising Braun a title shot if he cost Roman the match.
[310]
Strowman got his Universal Championship match on Raw
[313]
as well as a taste of his own medicine.
[315]
The Big Dog interfered during Braun's match with Owens
[318]
and cost Strowman his opportunity at the title.
[321]
At "Fastlane," the two were given the opportunity
[323]
to go one on one with each other.
[324]
Roman Reigns not only won that match,
[326]
but also became the first person to pin the giant.
[329]
Braun and Roman's rivalry continued after "WrestleMania 33,"
[333]
when Strowman attacked Reigns and injured his shoulder.
[335]
They had a rematch at "Payback"
[337]
where Braun made up for his defeat at "Fastlane"
[339]
by beating the Big Dog.
[340]
Shortly after this, Braun would have to undergo surgery
[343]
and was pulled from TV.
[345]
About two months later, the beast returned
[347]
and went after Roman Reigns again.
[349]
Reigns and Braun went at it a third time
[351]
in an ambulance match where Strowman once again proved
[354]
that size does matter.
[356]
After this Braun Strowman set his sights
[358]
on the Universal Championship again.
[360]
He participated in a fatal 4-way match at "SummerSlam"
[363]
but walked away empty handed.
[365]
Strowman then got an opportunity to face the champion
[367]
Brock Lesnar in a one-on-one match,
[370]
but the outcome remained the same.
[371]
After two defeats, The Monster Among Men took a break
[374]
from the world title scene
[375]
and joined up with The Miz and his crew.
[378]
They feuded with the recently reformed Shield,
[380]
setting up a five on three handicap match at "TLC."
[383]
During the fight Braun's teammates turned on him
[385]
which therefore turned Strowman face for the first time.
[389]
This change in attitude was pushed even further
[391]
at "Survivor Series."
[392]
Braun represented Team RAW,
[394]
and he and Triple H helped lead their brand to victory
[397]
by being the sole survivors.
[399]
After this massive win,
[400]
Strowman once again set his sights on Brock Lesnar.
[403]
This set up a triple threat match for the Universal Title
[406]
at the "Royal Rumble"
[407]
which also involved Kane.
[409]
In the weeks leading up to the match,
[410]
Strowman would wage war on RAW.
[413]
The Monster Among Men flipped over at WWE production truck
[416]
and even brought down part of the RAW set.
[418]
While you or I might not be able to do all that
[421]
we can wage our own wars in this video sponsor,
[423]
"War Planet Online."
[425]
This is an awesome MMO real-time strategy game.
[428]
You build your own base and grow your army
[431]
in order to destroy enemies and conquer the world.
[434]
So basically you're a WWE general manager
[436]
and your units are the wrestlers on your roster.
[439]
Also like in WWE you can form factions
[441]
by teaming up with your friends
[442]
or fellow "War Planet" players,
[444]
or you could be like Braun Strowman and destroy everyone.
[447]
Considering that Strowman was able to flip over vehicles
[450]
with his bare hands, he would probably fit well
[453]
in "War Planet Online."
[454]
"War Planet Online" has a massive map for you to conquer
[457]
and your actions will affect the world and other players.
[460]
I like upgrading my base, producing more units for combat,
[463]
and making my army bigger and better.
[466]
My favorite part though is attacking,
[468]
and of course destroying enemies.
[470]
Defeating enemy forces and completing missions
[472]
earns you rewards and resources,
[474]
which you can use to improve your army.
[477]
Best of all, "War Planet Online"
[478]
is free and available on The App Store,
[480]
Google Play and Windows.
[482]
Begin your world domination by downloading
[484]
"War Planet Online" today using the link in the description.
[488]
If our paths cross, may the best player win.
[491]
Getting back to Braun, at the 2018 "Royal Rumble,"
[494]
the Monster took on the Devil's Favorite Demon
[496]
and the Beast Incarnate.
[497]
However Lesnar won once again.
[500]
Strowman got another opportunity to challenge for the belt
[502]
when he participated in the "Elimination Chamber."
[505]
Even though he eliminated
[506]
four of the five other competitors,
[508]
(indistinct) was defeated by none other than Roman Reigns.
[511]
Going into "WrestleMania 34" Braun Strowman won
[514]
a RAW Tag Team Championship match
[516]
against Sheamus and Cesaro.
[518]
Even though he didn't have a partner,
[520]
Strowman still wouldn't have a teammate
[521]
until right before the match.
[523]
After walking out Strowman asked the fans in attendance
[526]
who wanted to be his partner.
[527]
He ended up picking a kid named Nicholas,
[529]
who was actually the son of WWE referee, John Cone.
[532]
Braun and Nicholas won the belts,
[534]
creating a very moment in "WrestleMania" history.
[537]
Due to Nicholas being a kid,
[539]
the two relinquished their belts the next night.
[541]
Braun Strowman stayed dominant though
[543]
entering into the greatest "Royal Rumble"
[545]
and winning the entire thing, while also setting a record
[548]
for the most eliminations in a "Royal Rumble" match.
[550]
Braun stayed extremely busy throughout the summer of 2018.
[553]
He had a feud with Kevin Owens for about four months
[556]
during which they created this
[558]
awesome moment at "Extreme Rules."
[560]
Additionally, Strowman also won
[562]
the "Money in the Bank" contract,
[564]
giving him a world championship match at any time.
[567]
He attempted to cash in on the Universal Champion
[569]
and old rival Roman Reigns,
[571]
but was attacked by Roman's Shield buddies.
[573]
This caused Strowman to form an alliance
[575]
with Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre,
[577]
turning Braun back into a heel.
[579]
During this, Braun Strowman used his
[581]
"Money in the Bank" contract
[582]
to set up a Universal Championship match
[584]
at "Hell in a Cell."
[585]
Due to interference from the former champion Brock Lesnar,
[588]
Strowman walked out of the cell without the gold.
[591]
As for his partnership with Ziggler and McIntyre,
[594]
it ultimately imploded
[595]
when Drew accidentally kicked Braun Strowman
[597]
during a match against The Shield.
[599]
This caused Braun Strowman to leave the group
[601]
and turn face again.
[602]
Beginning at "Crown Jewel,"
[604]
RAW general manager Baron Corbin
[606]
would start attacking Strowman from behind.
[608]
Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley,
[610]
later joined in the beat downs too.
[612]
This is to write Braun Strowman off TV,
[614]
so he'd have time to get surgery for an elbow injury.
[617]
Braun returned right before the end of the year at "TLC"
[620]
and (indistinct) Baron Corbin
[621]
in a tables, ladders and chairs match.
[623]
This also earned him a shot at the Universal Championship,
[626]
but that was taken away
[628]
when Braun damaged Vincent McMahon's limo.
[630]
Baron Corbin then became involved again
[632]
in Strowman's career
[633]
resulting in two more matches between them.
[635]
The first was a no disqualification match
[637]
at "Elimination Chamber"
[638]
where Corbin won with help from Drew and Bobby.
[641]
The second happened a day later on RAW,
[643]
in which Braun Strowman defeated Baron Corbin
[645]
once and for all in a tables match.
[647]
At "WrestleMania 35" Braun participated
[650]
in his second "Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal."
[653]
The six eight man eliminated 14 other wrestlers
[656]
in order to win the match and the trophy.
[658]
Things didn't really pick up until a few months later
[661]
when Braun Strowman defeated Bobby Lashley
[663]
in an arm wrestling the match.
[664]
Not too surprising, but Bobby Lashley didn't take it well.
[668]
The two met at "Super Showdown"
[670]
and Braun once again proved he was the better man.
[673]
The two also faced off in a last man standing match
[675]
at "Extreme Rules" where B-B-B-Braun
[678]
had his hand raised again.
[679]
With The Almighty out of the way,
[681]
Strowman would get back into the tag team scene
[683]
by saving the Universal Champion Seth Rollins
[685]
from an attack by The OC.
[687]
The two beat Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson a week later,
[690]
making Braun Strowman a two time RAW Tag Team Champion.
[693]
Braun ended up getting a Universal Championship match
[696]
at "Night of Champions," but he and Seth still had to defend
[699]
their RAW tag team belts that night too.
[701]
It wasn't a great time for Strowman
[703]
as he lost his Raw Tag Team Championship,
[705]
and still wasn't able to win the Universal Title.
[708]
On top of that, Braun Strowman then started a feud
[710]
with boxer Tyson Fury, and lost to him at "Crown Jewel."
[714]
Luckily things picked up
[716]
when Strowman was drafted to "SmackDown."
[718]
In early 2020, Strowman defeated Intercontinental Champion
[721]
Shinsuke Nakamura in a non-title match.
[724]
A few weeks later, Braun received a rematch
[726]
with Nakamura's NACA Morris championship on the line.
[729]
Despite outside interference, Strowman defeated Shinsuke
[732]
and finally won his first singles championship in WWE.
[735]
He did lose it about a month later at "Elimination Chamber"
[738]
but to be fair, it was a three on one handicap match.
[742]
Despite this Braun Strowman received a huge opportunity
[745]
when he replaced Roman Reigns
[746]
in the Universal Championship match against Goldberg.
[749]
At the weirdest "WrestleMania" of all time,
[751]
Strowman was finally able to win the WWE World Title.
[755]
After a successful defense at "Backlash"
[757]
things kind of came full circle,
[759]
as Braun Strowman would face off
[760]
against his former leader, Bray Wyatt.
[763]
The two met in a "Wyatt Swamp Fight"
[765]
where Bray used all kinds of mind games to defeat Braun.
[768]
Afterward, Strowman had a different look,
[770]
it was much more sinister.
[772]
He attacked Alexa Bliss, making him a heel once again.
[775]
Braun and Bray Wyatt went at it a second time
[777]
in a falls count anywhere match at "SummerSlam"
[780]
with the Universal Championship on the line.
[782]
Braun failed to defeat his former leader again,
[785]
and to make the circle even more complete,
[787]
Strowman's longest and oldest rival Roman Reigns returned
[790]
and attacked Braun after the match.
[792]
With his time
[793]
as world champion over, Strowman jumped back to RAW.
[796]
He didn't do a ton other than a brief fued with Keith Lee,
[799]
and leading and "Survivor Series" team to victory,
[801]
Braunie the Strowman would be suspended
[803]
for attacking Adam Pearce,
[804]
but returned right before the 2021 "Royal Rumble."
[808]
After being unable to compete in the "Elimination Chamber,"
[810]
Braun began a feud with Shane McMahon.
[813]
The revelry started when McMahon began
[815]
making fun of Strowman.
[816]
Braun Strowman would try to fight Shane,
[818]
but McMahon would always run away or use tricks to escape.
[821]
Shane eventually got his just desserts
[823]
at "WrestleMania 37" when Braun defeated Shane McMahon
[826]
in a steel cage match.
[828]
A few weeks after "WrestleMania"
[829]
Braun Strowman defeated former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre
[832]
to earn a spot in the WWE title match
[834]
at "WrestleMania: Backlash."
[836]
The match involved both Drew
[838]
and the WWE Champion, Bobby Lashley,
[840]
and surprisingly ended up being Braun Strowman's last match.
[844]
(upbeat music)
[845]
In the same city he had his first WWE match Tampa, Florida,
[849]
Braun Strowman marched towards the ring for his last.
[852]
When he debuted Strowman was a terrifying follower
[855]
of the Wyatt Family.
[856]
Over five years later, he was still the same monster,
[859]
but now with no one controlling him.
[861]
At the start of Braun Strowman's final WWE match,
[863]
Bobby Lashley attempted to form an alliance
[865]
with Drew McIntyre,
[867]
Strowman quickly put an end to the negotiations
[869]
by taking down both of his opponents.
[871]
Braun managed to get some offense in,
[873]
but Lashley caught him with a flat liner.
[875]
Unfortunately, The Monster Among Men
[877]
wasn't able to stop an alliance
[879]
as Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre
[881]
took turns attacking Braun.
[883]
Despite some hesitation,
[884]
Lashley and McIntyre worked together
[887]
lifting the 344 pound body of Strowman into the air
[890]
with a double suplex.
[892]
It wasn't long before big boy Braun was back on his boots,
[895]
but Drew knocked him down almost immediately.
[897]
After recovering Strowman did something amazing,
[900]
by hitting a dive from the edge of the ring
[902]
taking down both opponents.
[904]
He then sent Drew McIntyre into the barricade,
[906]
and choke slammed the WWE Champion inside the ring.
[909]
Bobby Lashley wasn't out yet,
[911]
and attempted to hurt locker on Braun.
[913]
The hold was broken up when Drew McIntyre's body
[916]
came crashing into the ring.
[917]
Strowman tried to tackle the Scottish warrior,
[920]
but got slammed into the ring post instead.
[922]
Braun's second attempt didn't work out either
[925]
as Drew dodged, and hit a zigzag on Strowman.
[927]
Not even a third attempt worked
[929]
as Strowman came running towards Lashley
[931]
and got slammed onto the mat by The Almighty.
[934]
The Monster Among Men decided to lay low for a while,
[937]
when he was back, Strowman pulled out the big guns
[940]
and used the steel steps to decimate Lashley.
[943]
Unfortunately, his rampage was abruptly ended
[945]
when Drew McIntyre knocked Braun Strowman
[948]
over the barricade with a Claymore.
[950]
That was enough to take out the giant for several minutes,
[953]
during which Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley
[955]
started fighting on the stage.
[957]
The brawl sparky thanks to McIntyre throwing the champion
[960]
through an LED board.
[962]
While Drew was distracted, Braun came running in
[964]
and sent his opponent flying towards the ring.
[967]
Strowman got Drew McIntyre back inside the ropes
[970]
where he smacked him hard in the chest
[971]
and hit a senton but it wasn't enough
[973]
to become WWE Champion.
[975]
Drew McIntyre's reflexes kicked in
[977]
allowing him to hit Strowman with a Michinoku driver.
[980]
But Braun wouldn't allow the ref to count three.
[983]
Strowman briefly regained control
[985]
when he chucked Drew McIntyre over the top rope.
[987]
Braun got The Strowman Express started,
[989]
but it was the bearded giant who got taken for a ride.
[992]
Before McIntyre could capitalize,
[994]
Braun Strowman did a counter of his own
[996]
and powerbomed the Scottish man
[998]
through the announcer's table.
[1000]
It looked like this is it for Drew McIntyre,
[1002]
so Strowman got the match back into the ring to finish it.
[1005]
Just as he was setting you up for running powerslam
[1008]
Drew's adrenaline kicked in
[1009]
and he managed to nail a direct hit on Braun
[1011]
before Braun could be covered the WWE Champion returned.
[1014]
Lashley threw Drew out at the ring
[1016]
and laid out Strowman with a spear and got the three count.
[1020]
I would describe Braun's final match as a blockbuster.
[1023]
The match is basically just a bunch of big moves
[1025]
from start to finish.
[1026]
That's not everyone's cup of tea,
[1028]
but with these three big guys, I think it fit well.
[1030]
The match is filled with action and some cool moments,
[1033]
but I had two problems.
[1035]
The first is that the ending was a little obvious.
[1038]
The heel champion disappeared halfway through the match,
[1040]
so seeing him run in at the very end and steal the win,
[1043]
wasn't a huge surprise.
[1044]
The other problem is that the whole match
[1046]
had kind of the same formula.
[1048]
Wrestler A hits a big move that takes down wrestler B.
[1051]
It looks like wrestler A is gonna hit another big move,
[1053]
but in the last second wrestler B counters,
[1056]
and repeat for about 14 minutes.
[1058]
These were the only two major problems
[1059]
I had with the match though.
[1061]
While I don't think it was perfect,
[1062]
I think it was still a decent match
[1064]
and not a bad way for someone to end their WWE career.
[1067]
After "WrestleMania,"
[1068]
Braun Strowman wouldn't be seen on RAW at all,
[1070]
except for a promotional video
[1072]
telling fans that "WWE was gonna start touring again."
[1075]
Strowman's absence was explained by MVP
[1077]
the night after the triple threat match,
[1079]
where he said "Braun had suffered broken ribs."
[1081]
This was of course part of the story,
[1083]
and Braun Strowman would be back
[1085]
sometime in the near future, except that he wouldn't.
[1088]
On June 2nd, shocking news came out
[1090]
that WWE had released The Monster Among Men.
[1093]
There's no official reason,
[1094]
but apparently Braun's WWE contract,
[1097]
gave him over a million dollars a year
[1099]
and it didn't expire until 2023.
[1102]
It seems like WWE wanted to recoup some money,
[1104]
but the reason why is also unknown.
[1107]
Regardless, this is a huge shocker.
[1109]
And the question is where will Braun Strowman go next?
[1112]
Do you think he'll return to WWE in the near future
[1115]
like Samoa Joe?
[1116]
Will he go to a competitor like AEW?
[1118]
Or do you think he'll join John Cena,
[1120]
The Rock and Bautista in Hollywood?
[1122]
Braun was in "Holmes & Watson" after all.
[1125]
