Channel: Podcastage

[2]
greetings earthlings welcome back to another聽 edition of the vs. series so today we are of聽聽
[10]
course doing a blue Yeti showdown and comparing聽 the Yeti nano the Yeti original and the Yeti Pro聽聽
[17]
to see which one is the best and which one you聽 should buy but before we jump into the tests聽聽
[22]
let's go ahead and talk briefly about the build聽 quality so the Yeti and the Yeti Pro are nearly聽聽
[27]
identical build qualities except the Yeti Pro聽 does have a nice coating on it they both have聽聽
[33]
headphone volume controls and microphone mute聽 buttons on the front and a microphone gain dial聽聽
[39]
as well as polar pattern selection dial on聽 the rear of the microphone the Yeti Nano on聽聽
[44]
the other hand has a joint headphone volume聽 and microphone mute button on the front and聽聽
[48]
on the rear it just has a polar pattern selection聽 switch now let's jump into the tests right now I'm聽聽
[54]
speaking into the new blue Yeti nano which will聽 set you back around 100 dollars this thing only聽聽
[59]
has a cardioid or omnidirectional polar pattern聽 a frequency response of 20 Hertz to 20 kilohertz聽聽
[66]
a max SPL of 120 decibels a bit depth of 24-bit聽 and a sample rate of up to 48 kilohertz right now聽聽
[75]
I'm speaking into the original blue Yeti which聽 will set you back around 130 dollars this thing聽聽
[81]
has a cardioid omnidirectional bi-directional聽 and stereo polar pattern a frequency response聽聽
[86]
of 20 to 20 kilohertz a max SPL of 120 bits a聽 bit depth of 16 bit and a sampling rate of up聽聽
[95]
to 48 kilohertz and now I'm speaking into聽 the blue yeti pro which will set you back聽聽
[100]
around 250 dollars this thing also has a cardioid聽 omnidirectional bi-directional and stereo polar聽聽
[107]
pattern a frequency response of 20 to 20 kilohertz聽 a max SPL of 120 decibels a bit depth of 24-bit聽聽
[116]
and a sampling rate up to 192 kilohertz now I'm聽 spinning around the yeti nano to 90 degrees to聽聽
[123]
show you the off-axis rejection and coloration we聽 are continuing around to 180 degrees to show you聽聽
[129]
how it sounds from the rear we will continue聽 spinning it around to the secondary 90 degree聽聽
[134]
angle and then we will spin it around to and at聽 the front now I'm speaking into the front of the聽聽
[140]
original Yeti moving around to 90 degrees to show聽 you the off-axis coloration and rejection we will聽聽
[146]
go ahead and move around to 180 degrees to show聽 you how it sounds from the rear continue around聽聽
[152]
to the secondary ninety degree angle and continue聽 rotating and speaking until we end at the front聽聽
[158]
okay now I am spinning around the Yeti Pro to聽 90 degrees to show you the off-axis rejection聽聽
[164]
and coloration we will continue around to 180聽 degrees to show you how it sounds from the rear聽聽
[170]
we will continue spinning the microphone back to聽 the secondary ninety degree angle and continue聽聽
[176]
spinning until we end at the front now I'm typing聽 on a keyboard with cherry MX blue to see how much聽聽
[181]
of my voice first how much of the keyboard it聽 picks up Cherry MX blue background noise test聽聽
[189]
on the original blue Yeti testing the background聽 noise with cherry MX blues on the blue Yeti Pro聽聽
[197]
right on top of the Yeti Nano to show you the聽 proximity effect right on top of the Yeti to聽聽
[204]
show you the proximity effect right on top of聽 the Yeti Pro to show you the proximity effect
[255]
we may not find out what to do so I'll do my聽 best to show them all to you I hope that this聽聽
[269]
will show you what the mics are like from blue and聽 the winner of this vs. series is the original blue聽聽
[281]
Yeti but there are some caveats to that so let's聽 talk about those so the first footnote or side聽聽
[287]
note here is the only reason that I didn't pick聽 the blue Yeti Pro is because I think 250 dollars聽聽
[293]
is a bit overpriced given what people typically聽 buy the blue Yeti for which only really requires聽聽
[300]
a cardioid polar pattern the second caveat聽 is I honestly wouldn't recommend any of these聽聽
[306]
microphones if you're recording gaming content聽 with a really loud keyboard if you're podcasting聽聽
[312]
if you're in conference calls or if you record聽 in a really noisy environment or a completely聽聽
[317]
untreated room I would say don't get any of these聽 microphones and the reason I say that is you would聽聽
[322]
be served infinitely better with a USB dynamic聽 microphone like the samson q2u or the ATR 2100聽聽
[330]
USB but if you are dead set on picking up one of聽 these blue Yeti microphones for those applications聽聽
[336]
I would recommend the blue Yeti Nano but with all聽 of that being said why did I actually select the聽聽
[343]
blue Yeti and it's because I do think it's the聽 best bang for your buck if you're buying this聽聽
[348]
microphone for the application that I think it's聽 actually good for which would be music now the聽聽
[353]
Yeti Nano does sound pretty good but it is lacking聽 a little bit in the mids and the low mid section聽聽
[359]
in comparison to the blue Yeti and the Yeti Pro聽 and it also does lack the stereo mode which is聽聽
[365]
insanely useful and fun to use if you're recording聽 any acoustic instruments or if god forbid you're聽聽
[371]
doing ASMR a oh my god I almost threw up there聽 so in summary out of these three microphones I聽聽
[378]
do think the Yeti or the Yeti nano or perfectly聽 fine options they'll serve you well depending聽聽
[384]
on your personal preferences your environment聽 and what you're looking for in your microphone聽聽
[389]
but if you do any of those things that I mentioned聽 before whether it be podcasting gaming with a loud聽聽
[394]
keyboard or if you record in a noisy environment聽 I would really urge you to consider looking into聽聽
[399]
a USB dynamic microphone because they will be a聽 better tool for the job and there it is I'm gonna聽聽
[405]
wrap up the video there but I do want to hear from聽 you guys in the comments down below you agree with聽聽
[410]
the conclusion that I came to or do you prefer one聽 of the other two microphones which of these three聽聽
[415]
is your personal favorite if you found the video聽 fun interesting or helpful or you got any value聽聽
[420]
out of it consider hitting that subscribe button聽 and maybe hitting that Bell button and if you聽聽
[425]
do want to see the dumb stuff that I say all the聽 time consider following me on Twitter at Bandaru聽聽
[429]
says that's gonna do it for today thank you guys聽 so much for watching I'll see you next time bye
