Kyrsten Sinema Sides With Republicans on $3.5 Trillion Bill - YouTube
Channel: The Young Turks
[0]
conservative democratic senator kirsten
[2]
cinema
[3]
has poured cold water on the democrats
[7]
reconciliation infrastructure bill the
[9]
3.5
[10]
trillion dollar infrastructure bill that
[12]
includes everything that
[14]
is supposed to be the democrats agenda
[17]
or on the democrats agenda
[19]
funding for child care funding for elder
[21]
care
[22]
the human infrastructure uh the climate
[25]
action
[25]
all of the goodies she is against she's
[27]
saying that it costs too much money
[30]
i mean i'm sure it has nothing to do
[32]
with her corporate donors who
[33]
hate the robust uh reconciliation
[36]
version of the infrastructure bill
[38]
she says the following while i support
[40]
beginning this process she says
[42]
i do not support a bill that costs 3.5
[45]
trillion dollars
[46]
and in the coming months i will work in
[48]
good faith to develop this legislation
[50]
with my colleagues and the
[52]
administration
[54]
now uh we should also be aware of the
[57]
fact
[58]
that senator cinema is the same
[60]
democratic senator
[62]
who decided to tap mitch mcconnell's
[64]
shoulder
[65]
a republican the former senate majority
[67]
leader
[68]
before she voted down gave a thumbs down
[71]
to a 15
[72]
hour minimum wage well turns out that
[74]
she certainly is seeking validation for
[76]
mitch mcconnell
[77]
and mitch mcconnell has responded to her
[79]
recent statement regarding the 3.3.5
[81]
trillion
[82]
infrastructure bill saying i was
[84]
certainly pleased she's very
[86]
courageous oh so i'm sure cinema is very
[89]
happy that mitch mcconnell's is
[91]
you know patting her head and telling
[92]
her she's being a good girl good girl
[94]
doing the bidding of corporate donors
[96]
and the republican party
[98]
now uh the good news is though jank
[100]
progressives
[101]
are planning to fight back i'll give you
[103]
the details on that but first some
[104]
thoughts on
[105]
cinema yeah so guys the most important
[107]
thing here
[108]
is that these two bills uh that
[112]
by so-called bipartisan bill that spends
[115]
about half a trillion
[116]
dollars in new money uh versus the
[119]
reconciliation bill the democratic bill
[121]
that spends three and a half trillion
[123]
that's the real bill
[124]
right it's this has always been a trap
[127]
so
[128]
the republicans and corporate democrats
[130]
had always planned to pass
[132]
only the bipartisan tiny bill and in
[135]
fact they loaded it up with
[137]
corporate giveaways including the fossil
[138]
fuel industry right
[140]
so it's it's an ambush and so the trick
[143]
is oh
[144]
progressives and uh electorate which is
[147]
we know is progressive even though
[148]
the media and we pretend they're not we
[151]
are going to do these wonderful things
[152]
that you guys love
[154]
and it will bring you many jobs and it
[155]
will help the environment etc
[158]
wink and then no they're going to pull
[161]
the football every like they do every
[163]
time so they're going to
[164]
pass the bipartisan bill and then go oh
[166]
we tried so hard for the reconciliation
[169]
bill
[170]
the one that the democrats and
[171]
progressives wanted
[173]
but golly gee we just couldn't do it
[175]
crystal cinema wouldn't vote for it by
[177]
the way
[177]
rotating villains if it's not chris
[179]
cinema it'd be joe manchin if it's not
[180]
joe manchin
[181]
it'll be chris coons it doesn't matter
[182]
because they never meant it
[184]
they never planned to pass it i mean we
[185]
saw it from a mile away and you know
[187]
what we never give ourselves credit i'm
[189]
going to give us credit
[190]
right the second they decided to do to
[192]
split the
[193]
infrastructure bill into two bills right
[196]
oh
[196]
no no we'll go ahead and um include
[199]
everything that uh
[200]
republicans want and corporate democrats
[203]
want in the bipartisan bill
[205]
and then afterwards i pro we promise we
[207]
swear
[208]
through reconciliation we're gonna pass
[209]
the 3.5 trillion dollar
[211]
bill no they were never planning on
[213]
doing that i think that there are
[215]
um some democratic senators who you know
[218]
might have been suspicious but genuinely
[220]
thought no we'll fight and we'll get the
[222]
the actual
[222]
more robust bill passed uh but you're
[225]
right you have
[226]
mansion you have cinema you have coons
[228]
you have warner i mean
[229]
the rotating villains continue uh and
[232]
you know we were just talking about joe
[234]
manchin
[235]
standing in the way of the 3.5 trillion
[238]
dollar infrastructure bill just
[239]
yesterday and today it's
[240]
it's cinema who knows what's going to
[242]
happen tomorrow but it's becoming
[244]
increasingly unlikely that we're going
[247]
to get a good
[248]
infrastructure deal based on the
[250]
nonsense that's going on with these
[252]
corrupt corporate democrats
[253]
look we have a petition um and so i i
[256]
get it that it
[257]
since there's two bills it sounds a
[258]
little confusing but it isn't if they
[260]
vote for the
[262]
um bipartisan bill first we're screwed
[264]
because they're never going to pass the
[266]
larger bill
[266]
okay i guarantee you could write it down
[269]
in stone
[270]
i mean whatever bet i could make i would
[273]
make on it it's a i've seen that lie a
[275]
thousand times in covering politics for
[277]
the last quarter of a century right
[279]
so progressives in the house and we're
[281]
asking all democrats in the house
[283]
do not vote on the bipartisan bill
[286]
before you vote
[287]
on the actual reconciliation bill yep so
[290]
you've got to vote on the reconciliation
[292]
bill the real bill the democratic bill
[293]
the three and a half trillion dollar
[295]
bill
[295]
first otherwise it's an ambush
[298]
there's no question about it right so
[301]
we're asking you to participate in that
[302]
petition go to tyt.com
[304]
petitions we'll have the link down below
[307]
if you're watching on youtube or
[308]
facebook
[309]
and uh and and so you can read the whole
[312]
uh explanation of it on tyt.com slash
[316]
petition slash
[317]
infrastructure vote okay so here the
[320]
order of the voting
[321]
makes the biggest difference if they
[324]
pass the terrible one first
[326]
we're done they've got to pass a good
[328]
one first now we have great news for you
[330]
guys
[331]
this time progressives are fighting back
[334]
so anna tell us about that so usually
[336]
when it appears like they might fight
[338]
back you'll get
[340]
a random tweet here or there where
[342]
they're like hinting that they're
[343]
thinking about fighting back but in this
[345]
case
[346]
there's a united front which i think is
[349]
important
[350]
and remember the head of the house
[352]
progressive uh caucus
[354]
is pramila jayapal and she released a
[357]
statement
[358]
uh pramila jayapal said that votes of
[360]
caucus members
[361]
are not guaranteed on any bipartisan
[364]
package
[365]
until we examine the details and until
[367]
the reconciliation bill
[368]
is agreed to and passed with our
[371]
priorities
[372]
sufficiently funded following that
[374]
statement you have
[376]
several democratic lawmakers coming out
[378]
and agreeing with it
[379]
mondaire jones is an example without a
[381]
reconciliation package
[382]
that meets this moment i'm a no on this
[386]
bipartisan deal
[387]
you have rashida talib who called cinema
[389]
out by name and i
[390]
love to see it she says cinema seems not
[393]
to care
[394]
that her own state is flooding the west
[396]
is burning and infrastructure around the
[398]
country is crumbling
[399]
cinema is more interested in gaining gop
[401]
friends and blocking much needed
[403]
resources
[404]
than fighting for her resident's future
[407]
i love that and she also said that it's
[410]
time for the white house
[412]
to play hardball we didn't elect cinema
[414]
as president
[415]
and we won't let her obstruction put a
[417]
republican in the oval office in 2024
[420]
it's a reconciliation bill or gop
[422]
controlling
[423]
every level of government again period
[426]
and i think that she's right on that i'm
[428]
going to keep going just two more tweets
[430]
we have jamal bowman who says we were
[432]
sent to congress to transform
[434]
lives if the senate fails to support a
[436]
reconciliation package that meets the
[438]
moment on climate
[439]
and our care economy i can't see myself
[442]
supporting their goal of passing a
[443]
bipartisan package
[445]
for infrastructure and final one comes
[447]
from aoc who says
[449]
good luck tanking your own party's
[451]
investment on child care
[453]
climate action and infrastructure while
[456]
presuming
[456]
you'll survive a three-vote house margin
[459]
especially after choosing to exclude
[461]
members of color from negotiations
[463]
and calling that a bipartisan
[465]
accomplishment and remember
[466]
kirsten cinema led the effort along with
[469]
republican senator rob
[471]
portman on the bipartisan infrastructure
[473]
deal so she wants to make sure that that
[475]
passes
[476]
and i love that these lawmakers
[478]
progressive lawmakers are calling her
[479]
out and saying no
[480]
no we're not going to let you succeed in
[481]
this bipartisan deal until we get what
[483]
we wanted the reconciliation deal
[485]
so i want to give particular credit to a
[487]
couple people here for specific reasons
[489]
so
[489]
aoc said that about cinema's actions
[492]
so she along with talib deserves credit
[495]
for calling out a democratic colleague
[496]
you might think that's
[497]
normal of course they're going to vote
[499]
against your priority it might kill
[502]
any action on climate change why
[504]
wouldn't they call them up but in
[505]
in washington if you don't know if
[506]
you're new to politics in washington
[509]
a democrat calling out another democrat
[511]
is the biggest crime
[513]
it's like insulting a police officer
[515]
it's not in any
[516]
rule book but if you do it it's the
[518]
third rail and
[519]
everybody collapses in on you the
[521]
corporate democrats democratic
[523]
leadership
[523]
corporate media they all voraciously
[526]
attack you right
[527]
so this is the first time that i've seen
[529]
it happening
[530]
in in real movement enough numbers
[534]
to make a difference on the vote in the
[535]
house so i'm actually i don't know
[537]
monday jones at all
[539]
we've helped a lot of progressives win
[541]
with but
[542]
honestly we we haven't had any contact
[544]
with mondeo jones
[545]
so i'm going to tell you in a complete
[547]
in the most unbiased way you can imagine
[549]
monday had the best tweet okay because
[552]
his says
[553]
no i'm voting no on the bill yeah so
[556]
that's the only thing that matters we
[558]
can huff and we can puff
[560]
and but that matters too don't get me
[562]
wrong calling out other democrats
[563]
matters in terms of putting the
[565]
spotlight on the issue and creating
[566]
pressure
[567]
right but at the end of the day you
[569]
either vote yes or you vote no
[571]
so he's clearly on the record saying no
[573]
i'm going to vote no on your bill
[575]
unless we vote on our bill first that's
[577]
exactly what we're asking
[578]
of politicians by the way send this
[580]
petition to those politicians not just
[582]
the progressives but yes
[583]
also to them but to the corporate
[585]
democrats it says no house democrat
[587]
should vote for the bipartisan bill
[590]
before
[590]
uh the reconciliation bill so credit to
[594]
monday jones for doing the right thing
[595]
and in the right way
[597]
okay and guys as aoc pointed out you
[599]
really don't need a lot of votes in the
[600]
house
[601]
at all and i want to give you one more
[604]
piece of context here
[605]
look when progressives didn't
[608]
do what we were hoping for in the 15
[610]
minute wage fight
[611]
when it was a winnable fight it wasn't a
[614]
fantasy it wasn't
[615]
a weird timed thing for theatrics right
[619]
it was real we could have won on 15
[621]
minute wage
[622]
and they didn't they didn't fight on
[624]
that okay and i called them out
[626]
and i burned a lot of bridges calling
[627]
them out okay on this one
[629]
they are doing the right thing so when
[632]
they're not doing the right thing
[633]
it is right to criticize when they are
[635]
doing the right thing it's right to
[636]
support
[637]
see that is called using your mind and
[639]
your human judgment
[640]
to be able to discern between different
[642]
situations
[643]
and in this situation they're saying all
[645]
the right things
[646]
and they're saying that they're going to
[648]
act on that so great
[650]
and go get their back but send them the
[651]
petition anyway we we want them on the
[653]
record if they say yes
[655]
i'm signing the petition as a
[656]
congressperson trust me that'll make
[658]
gigantic news
[659]
that'll affect the negotiations and most
[661]
importantly it'll affect
[663]
what passes and because either that
[666]
infrastructure bill with the climate
[668]
change and the jobs
[669]
passes or it doesn't and that's the most
[671]
important thing of all
[673]
thanks for watching the young turks
[674]

[676]
