Channel: Black Girl Stocks
[0]
if you're a day trader you'll want to watch聽
this understanding the fundamentals of the聽聽
[4]
bid and the ask spread is going to be聽
a key factor in your trading success聽聽
[8]
every time that you enter a trade the bid聽
and the ask is going to play a role in that聽聽
[12]
so have you ever wondered if you should buy聽
at the bid or the ask let's talk about it聽聽
[24]
hey what's up youtube this is foxtail digital聽
coming to you again with black girl stocks and聽聽
[29]
in this video we're going to be talking about the聽
bid and the ask spread so what is it and how can聽聽
[34]
you use it to start building more successful聽
trading setups okay but first if this is your聽聽
[39]
first time watching this video please make聽
sure that you click that thumbs up button it聽聽
[43]
really helps the channel also make sure that you聽
subscribe and click the notification bell so that聽聽
[47]
you'll get notified any time i upload a new video聽
for you guys we talked about the bed and the ask聽聽
[53]
a little bit on the channel uh but what is it聽
really when you really think about it the stock聽聽
[58]
market is a huge collection of buyers and sellers聽
so at any given time a stock is being bought聽聽
[64]
and sold when you want to buy something at聽
an auction what do you do you put in a bid聽聽
[68]
for it so a bid for ownership and then when you're聽
selling something you're gonna ask for a potential聽聽
[74]
buyer to bid to sell what you want so let's聽
put that into terms of the entire stock market聽聽
[79]
when we have a bid and ask spread that represents聽
the difference in between the highest bid price of聽聽
[85]
buyers and the lowest price of sellers everybody聽
wants the deal and this is what you're going to聽聽
[91]
see when you're looking at the ask and the bid聽
spread so just remember this the bid is going to聽聽
[95]
be the highest price that a trader is willing to聽
pay to get into a stock and then the ask is going聽聽
[101]
to be the lowest price that a trader is willing聽
to sell their stock for right now the time being聽聽
[107]
so for example let's say right now that聽
this stock has a bid ask of ten dollars and聽聽
[115]
ten dollars and fifteen cents right now the聽
most that buyers are going to be willing to聽聽
[120]
pay for that is gonna be ten dollars and the聽
least that somebody is willing to sell it out聽聽
[125]
for is going to be ten dollars and fifteen cents聽
so if you were looking to get into that trade聽聽
[130]
you're probably not going to get it less than ten聽
dollars and fifteen cents until a trade opens up聽聽
[135]
available for that and on the opposite if you're聽
looking to sell it to somebody you're probably聽聽
[139]
not going to get it for more than ten dollars聽
so the difference between the ask and the bed聽聽
[143]
the spread is a huge huge indicator of liquidity聽
in a stock so every time when you hear me say聽聽
[150]
get into a liquid stock get into a liquid聽
stock is it liquid is it liquid this is what聽聽
[155]
we're talking about so when we say liquid that聽
means easy to get in and out of like a thought聽聽
[163]
seriously have you ever been trying to get聽
into a trade but you just cannot seem to get in聽聽
[168]
you keep increasing your bid price until finally聽
you get into the trade and usually it's going to聽聽
[173]
be a little bit higher than you originally wanted聽
to but you really wanted to get into the trade聽聽
[176]
and then it drops after that but that's enough聽
that's a whole another story think about it like聽聽
[181]
this stocks that have a smaller or tighter bid聽
and ask spread are more liquid and easier to get聽聽
[188]
into so you want a smaller spread a lot of really聽
good professional traders they keep their spread聽聽
[194]
about five cents five to ten cents so if your bid聽
and your ask is more than 10 cents no ma'am large聽聽
[202]
popular companies like google apple and netflix聽
they're usually going to have smaller spreads聽聽
[206]
than stocks that really aren't as actively traded聽
um they're going to have wider spreads and they're聽聽
[211]
going to be less liquid and more difficult to聽
secure the trade at the price that you want this聽聽
[216]
is why this is key for day traders so remember聽
this also it's going to help to look at the聽聽
[220]
differences between the bid and the ass and like聽
percentage-wise so try not to focus so so much on聽聽
[226]
the actual scent because stocks that have a higher聽
price normally have a wider spread also but it's聽聽
[233]
gonna have the same percentage if that makes sense聽
so for example think about a stock that's going聽聽
[238]
for ten dollars right now and it has a ten cents聽
bid and ask spread so that's going to be a spread聽聽
[245]
of one percent then look at a stock that's trading聽
at a thousand dollars with a one dollar spread the聽聽
[251]
bid in the ask is wider than the previous but it's聽
actually only point one percent of the price so聽聽
[258]
it's actually less so think about it like that uh聽
as far as percentages two when you're dealing with聽聽
[262]
higher priced stocks one way that you can really聽
use this to your advantage is to think about it聽聽
[267]
like supply and demand and you're going to be able聽
to find short-term trends in the stocks by looking聽聽
[272]
at the spread volume so pay attention to the聽
volume all right so when you're looking at quotes聽聽
[277]
see the number next to the bid and the ask price聽
that's going to be the current number of shares聽聽
[282]
available at each of those prices so looking聽
right here for example we see a bid of 145 what聽聽
[289]
is 145.06 the stock price that you see is 144.98聽
and you can use this to get an idea of the future聽聽
[297]
direction of your stock trend looking at the bid聽
and the ask amount just remember this when the聽聽
[303]
bid volume is higher than the ask volume then the聽
selling is going to be stronger and the price is聽聽
[308]
more likely to go down but when the ask volume聽
is higher than the bid volume then the buying聽聽
[314]
power is stronger in that situation and then the聽
price is more likely to go up so when you see more聽聽
[319]
volume on either side use that to your advantage聽
to get into short-term price movements all right聽聽
[326]
and the last question should you buy the bid or聽
the ass well let's look at level two data so right聽聽
[333]
here i'm looking at apple we're on apple and this聽
is our level two data right here so we said before聽聽
[338]
that the bid is the most that a buyer is willing聽
to pay and the ask is the lowest that a seller is聽聽
[344]
willing to take so this list is going to show you聽
all of those orders and the sizes next to that is聽聽
[349]
the number of shares available at those prices聽
these are all limit orders so these are limit聽聽
[354]
orders obviously you want to get the better price聽
when you're trading so instead of just accepting聽聽
[358]
the market price this is pretty much the best聽
that you're going to get but this is probably聽聽
[362]
due to after hours trading because the stock has聽
gone up 10 cents so i'm actually filming this in聽聽
[367]
after hours so kind of ignore this 144 price聽
right now because the stock has increased in聽聽
[372]
after hours so that's what's going on with these聽
bid and ask right here but yeah as far as as聽聽
[378]
a lot of people are going to try to buy their聽
stocks a little bit lower and they're going to聽聽
[382]
want to sell them a little bit higher so do you聽
want to buy or sell at the ask a bit it really聽聽
[386]
just depends on the numbers here so look here if聽
you want to buy a certain stock you can see what's聽聽
[392]
being shown on the bid and how many orders need to聽
be filled to get to that best price so right here聽聽
[397]
let's say if you wanted to get in right now the聽
best price that you can get in is probably going聽聽
[402]
to be 145 18. there's five shares available for聽
that once that's gone it's going to move up to 145聽聽
[407]
20. once uh once those five are gone it's gonna聽
move up to 145.25 and then after that see you聽聽
[414]
see 100 is available now so once that 106 is gone聽
then it's gonna go up to uh 145.30 so i don't know聽聽
[421]
if you guys are in weeble chat rooms but i know聽
a lot of people say don't buy the bid don't buy聽聽
[426]
the bid buy the ask because when you buy the聽
ask that's what's going to help increase that聽聽
[430]
stock price don't buy the bid if you want the聽
stock to go up buy the ass uh the same thing is聽聽
[436]
if you're selling you're going to look over here聽
at the bid so what are people bidding to buy in聽聽
[440]
the best price that you're going to get right聽
now is 145.01 um and this is this is what you聽聽
[445]
call market debt so a level one screen is going聽
to show just the number of buyers and sellers with聽聽
[451]
the open order at the price that you're looking聽
at but you really don't have a lot of information聽聽
[455]
you know about how many other buyers and sellers聽
there are out there at different prices when you聽聽
[460]
get into the level 2 screen now look at all聽
that when you get into the level two screen聽聽
[465]
that's going to show you the number of buyers and聽
sellers at each price level when you add up those聽聽
[469]
numbers of buyers and sellers then you'll be able聽
to kind of determine whether there's more pressure聽聽
[474]
to buy or sell that stock and as you can see this聽
is going crazy right now it's going crazy the bid聽聽
[480]
in the ask spread is basically just negotiation聽
so if you want to buy a share you're going to have聽聽
[486]
to pay the ask price if you want to sell shares聽
quickly you're going to have to take the bid price聽聽
[490]
i don't want to say to be successful but to get in聽
quickly you're going to have to be able to stand聽聽
[495]
you know stand up for yourself walk away聽
from the trade if it's just going crazy聽聽
[500]
all right so that was a little bit of information聽
about the bid and the ask i hope you guys enjoyed聽聽
[504]
that video but make sure you check this video聽
out to get more information about when exactly
[511]
you should get into your trades the exact second聽
so check that video out it's pretty fire yeah
