5 Biblical Financial Principles Every Christian Should Know! - YouTube
Channel: SeedTime Money
[0]
All right, in this video we're going
to talk about five Bible verses about money
[3]
that I think every Christian should know.
[5]
These are five that have had deep impact in
my life and I pray that they have the same
[9]
in yours as well, and if we haven't met, my
name is Bob Lotich, you know, in this channel
[13]
we help give you practical tips and strategies on how to put more money in your pocket and
[18]
we also talk about biblical principles on
how to handle it.
[20]
And so that's something that interests you.
[22]
You can hit the subscribe button, we'd love
to be friends.
[24]
You can also hit that little bell if you want
to get notifications from us as well.
[28]
And as we're going through this, I'd love
to get comments from you down below.
[31]
I'd love to hear what you agree with, what
you don't agree with, any Bible verses that
[34]
I missed or that you think should be on this
list.
[36]
All that would be super helpful if can
dump that down in the comments down below.
[39]
So as we're going through is versus this is
not a condemnation thing, is not the goal
[43]
of this, it's just to educate us all and gets
more familiar with what God's word says about
[47]
money so that we can get more in align with that.
[51]
We're all works in progress, we're all growing in our faith and we're all growing in this
[55]
journey, so just let it be that.
[57]
Let it be an encouragement that hopefully
can guide you and direct you just a little
[60]
bit, but definitely not a guilt or condemnation thing.
[63]
And if you are struggling in a particular
area, I recommend the prey and submitted to
[67]
God and ask him for help.
[69]
That's what he's there for.
[70]
And with that, I think it's time to dive in
and get started.
[72]
All right, so the first one is: 1 Timothy 6:10, and it says, for the love of
[76]
money is a root of all kinds of evil.
[78]
Some people eager for money have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with
[81]
many griefs.
[83]
And this is diversity here, ms dot quoted
all the time where people say money is the
[87]
root of all evil.
[88]
It's not money that is the root of all evil
is the love of money that is a root of all
[92]
evil, and that is a big distinction because
money in and of itself is just a tool.
[96]
It is not evil.
[97]
It's not righteous, but it can be used for
both purposes.
[101]
Just like a hammer can be used to build or
can be used to harm.
[104]
It's no different money falls in that same
category.
[107]
So another interesting thing about this is
you're not off the hook if you don't have money.
[111]
So I used to kind of think that if I
didn't have a lot of money that that meant
[115]
that I didn't love money.
[116]
But the truth is that the love of money has
nothing to do with
[118]
how much money is in your bank account.
[120]
So just because you have millions of dollars in your bank account doesn't mean that you
[123]
love money.
[124]
And on the other hand, even if you only have $15 in your account, that doesn't prove that
[128]
you don't love money either.
[130]
So it's independent of the amount of money we have and it's more our attitude and our
[133]
heart towards money.
[135]
So if you're trying to find out if this is
an area that you can grow, and here are a
[138]
few questions that you can ask yourself, does my pursuit of money interfere with obeying God?
[143]
Do I always look for something that will benefit me financially regardless of how it affects
[147]
others when it comes to helping others?
[149]
Am I more concerned with what my cost
will be instead of allowing myself
[153]
to be moved by compassion?
[155]
So in this verse, Paul makes a really bold
statement about our attitude towards money.
[160]
Notice the vivid language that he uses here
through this craving.
[163]
Some have pierced themselves with many griefs and have wandered from the faith.
[167]
And essentially what he's saying here is that this craving for more and more will ultimately
[171]
lead us to destruction.
[173]
So like I said in the beginning, this is one
of those areas that we all probably have room
[176]
to grow in.
[177]
So let's let God guide us and challenge us
and just kind of lead us into that change
[182]
that he wants to make in our hearts.
[184]
All right.
[185]
#2 is: Malakai 3:10, and it says, bring
the whole tithe into the storehouse that there
[188]
may be food in my house, test me in this as
the Lord Almighty and see if I will not throw
[193]
open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room
[197]
enough for it.
[198]
I've written extensively about this
on my blog so you can check out the article
[201]
down below if you want to kind of dive in
and if you want to get in on the debate, because
[205]
this is a heavily debated topic, but the bottom line is is that we cannot go wrong giving.
[210]
So my encouragement to you would be to continue
growing in your giving an always stretching
[215]
it beyond.
[216]
So the tithing thing is not a half two thing,
but it's good to.
[218]
It's an opportunity that we have to kind of
step out in faith with God and watch him do
[223]
something really special.
[225]
I personally believe that we've been redeemed
from the curse of the law, that Jesus bore
[229]
that curse for us and therefore we are not
cursed if we don't tied, but I do think there's
[234]
a blessing available to those of us who continue
to step out and generosity and continue to
[239]
press are giving.
[240]
One of my personal favorite verses about
this is luke 6:38 where it says give and it
[244]
shall be given unto you.
[246]
Good measure.
[247]
Press down, shaking together, running over
shall men give unto your bosom.
[250]
And I think it's in proverbs, ecclesiastes,
these where it says that he who waters will
[254]
himself be watered and there are just so many Bible verses that talks specifically about
[258]
the benefits of giving and there's just no
denying that we cannot out give God the ultimate
[263]
giver to us.
[265]
So #3 on the list is: Acts 20:35
[267]
And it says in everything I did, I showed
you that by this kind of hard work, we must
[272]
help the weak remembering the words of the Lord Jesus himself.
[275]
That it is more blessed to give than to receive.
[278]
So this one ties nicely into the previous
one and essentially are giving changes us.
[283]
It changes the world and here are a
few ways how so?
[285]
Number one, it provides resources for kingdom growth.
[289]
So evangelists, preachers, ministries, organizations who are helping and serving the world, they
[296]
all need finances to fund what they are doing.
[300]
So Paul, who is actively working as a missionary said this to the Church of Philippi.
[304]
In all my prayers for all of you, I always
pray with joy because of your partnership
[308]
in the Gospel from the first day until now,
I had.
[311]
Number two is that we bring light and joy
into the world by our generosity.
[315]
So when we invest in our own possessions,
there's often very little emotional return
[319]
for that investment.
[320]
However, when we invest in the lives of others, the return on investment is a tremendous amount
[324]
of joy that we get from giving and benefiting someone else's life.
[328]
You know, so we're spreading joy to the people who are getting the gift.
[331]
But we're also receiving joy.
[334]
Number three is that our giving helps us fulfill the two greatest commandments.
[338]
So forgiving is motivated by the love of God
and the love of mankind.
[341]
It fulfills the greatest commandment to love the Lord your God with all your heart,
[345]
all your soul and all your mind.
[347]
And then to love your neighbor as yourself.
[349]
So kind of wrapping this point up, I think
it's really important to remember that Jesus
[353]
himself said it is more blessed to give than
to receive.
[356]
And if we think seriously about what that
means, we should be excited when we're giving.
[362]
It should be fun and it should be something
that we're chasing after and wanting to do
[365]
more of because there's a blessing attached to it.
[369]
All right.
[370]
#4 is: Proverbs 22:7 and it says
that the rich rule over the poor and the borrower
[374]
is slave to the lender.
[375]
So we were slaves to sin and Jesus came
to set us free.
[379]
So if he wanted to set us free in that one
area, I don't know why he would want us to
[382]
be in bondage and another area with our debt.
[385]
So whether you have your required depth through your own mistakes or circumstances
[388]
beyond your control.
[390]
I believe that God wants to see his children
living debt free lives, and the good news
[394]
is that God wants to help us become debt free.
[396]
I've seen this over and over again.
[398]
I've talked to countless readers and students who have been on their journey to get out
[402]
of debt and as they have taken steps forward in faith with God to pay off their debt.
[406]
I have seen miraculous things happen one after another after another in almost every time
[411]
people say it just happened.
[413]
It got paid off a lot faster than I thought.
[415]
So they had a plan where it's like,
our debt will be paid off in three or four
[418]
years and now it seems to happen all the time.
[420]
It's like God just kind of swoops in and just
helps add some wind beneath your wings and
[425]
move things along faster than you expect.
[427]
And I think it's because it's something that
he wants for us.
[430]
Uh, so the thought of being debt free is really fun and exciting, isn't it?
[434]
But there's actually a deeper purpose behind it.
[436]
So as stewards of God's money, and you can read about this in the parable of the talents
[440]
as stewards, like we're required to use this
money wisely and to make the most of it in
[446]
when we're paying hundreds of dollars in interest on credit cards or whatever else it is, that's
[451]
money that could be used for a better purpose.
[454]
So if you're in debt and you want to get out,
and this is helping you kind of get inspired
[457]
and pushed you over the edge a little bit.
[459]
We've written about this extensively
on our site and so I have a link down below.
[463]
We have a monster guide that we created that will help you kind of walked through the process
[466]
of paying off all your debt.
[468]
All right.
[469]
#5 is one of my favorites...
[470]
It's Philippians 4:19, and it says that
my God will supply all your need according
[475]
to his riches and glory by Christ Jesus.
[477]
And if you've been around at all on this earth, you probably know that putting your trust
[480]
in anything other than God is just kind of
silly.
[483]
If we're trusting the economy, if we're trusting in our job, if we're trusted in our bank account,
[487]
all of those are places that we should not
be placing our trust and that are shaky ground
[491]
that are going to let us down at some point.
[494]
On the other hand, God is always faithful
and he will always be there
[497]
and he will always provide for us.
[499]
So I hope these verses have been a blessing to you and if you're interested in memorizing
[503]
these verses, we have a free pdf with all
five of them listed on there that you can
[507]
print off, can put on your fridge and you
can just look at them day after day to just
[511]
kind of memorize them.
[512]
And if this was helpful to you at all, I would
appreciate it.
