The Sad And Tragic Life Of Elon Musk - YouTube
Channel: Grunge
[0]
Love him or hate him, Elon Musk is a titan
of the tech industry.
[4]
Enterprises such as Tesla and SpaceX alone
are more than enough to justify people calling
[8]
him a real-life Iron Man.
[10]
But how did he get where he is today?
[12]
Here's the tragic, real-life story of Elon
Musk.
[15]
In a 2015 biography by Ashlee Vance, Musk
called his father, Errol Musk, "an odd duck,"
[21]
and said of his own childhood,
[23]
"It would certainly be accurate to say that
I did not have a good childhood…
[27]
It was not absent of good, but it was not
a happy childhood.
[31]
It was like misery."
[32]
Musk attributes a lot of this misery, including
alleged abuse, to Errol.
[36]
"It was very violent.
[38]
It was not a happy childhood.
[41]
My father has his serious issues."
[43]
Errol has mostly been unaffected by the negative
publicity.
[47]
According to the New Zealand Herald, he feels
that his son's accusations are that of a spoiled
[51]
child.
[52]
He also suspects his son's comments are motivated
by a fragile emotional state … and a lingering
[56]
bitterness over the way Errol failed to love
the U.S.A. like his son did.
[61]
"I remember thinking and saying that America
is where great things are possible, more than
[66]
any other country in the world.
[67]
It's sort of cliche but it's true."
[69]
It's easy to think of a man like Musk as an
unflappable inventor who doesn't really need
[73]
the company of other people.
[75]
But according to a 2017 interview with Rolling
Stone, this couldn't be further from the truth.
[80]
"I feel fear quite strongly."
[82]
Having just split with his girlfriend at the
time, Amber Heard, Musk candidly revealed
[86]
that he's terrified of being alone.
[88]
He said,
[89]
“I will never be happy without having someone.
[91]
Going to sleep alone kills me.”
[93]
Musk claimed that, as a child, he decided
he never wanted to be alone, and he has carried
[98]
that philosophy to adulthood.
[101]
"I do warn you it's gonna be a slightly bumpy
ride, it's a little rough around the edges."
[105]
The Independent and Business Insider have
both taken a look at Musk's dating history.
[109]
And as popular as he might be with the ladies,
his relationships have an unfortunate tendency
[114]
to, well, end.
[116]
His first marriage, to Justine Musk, ended
in a divorce in 2008.
[120]
And his marriage to Talulah Riley was a more
complicated affair.
[124]
"I thought he was some sort of hapless engineer
that had wandered into a London club, and
[128]
he just looked so forlorn, he just sat in
a corner on his Blackberry."
[133]
The couple divorced in 2012 and remarried
in 2013.
[136]
Musk filed and withdrew a second divorce in
2014, and Riley finally divorced him in 2016.
[142]
Later that year, Musk started dating actress
Amber Heard, but they split in 2017.
[147]
"Let's see.
[148]
Where did that fall apart."
[150]
But perhaps the strangest piece of Musk's
relationship puzzle is the most recent one.
[154]
Insider reported that Musk was browsing Twitter
to make an artificial intelligence pun when
[159]
he noticed that indie musician Grimes had
already used the same joke in one of her music
[163]
videos.
[164]
The two later debuted their relationship at
the 2018 Met Gala.
[168]
Since then, the pair has enjoyed a tumultuous
"are they or aren't they" relationship.
[173]
"I mean it's legal, right?"
[174]
"It's totally legal."
[176]
"Okay."
[177]
As a high-ranking member of the Silicon Valley
pantheon, Musk has been the subject of many
[181]
rumors linking him to the decadent lifestyle
of the rich and famous.
[185]
Musk smoked marijuana on Joe Rogan's podcast
and, rather more controversially, rapper Azealia
[191]
Banks accused him and his girlfriend Grimes
of leaving her stranded in Musk's house for
[196]
"days," according to Vox.
[198]
Banks insinuated that during her stay, Musk
was on acid, and she speculated that the two
[202]
were looking for some kinky bedroom antics.
[205]
"No I did not come to LA to have some f---ing
like mutant alien orgy and do some other f---ing
[211]
crazy s---, b----."
[213]
Although Musk denies knowing Banks personally,
she's not the only one who has connected the
[217]
billionaire with a lifestyle of debauchery.
[219]
In 2018, Vanity Fair released an excerpt of
Emily Chang's book, Brotopia, about the excesses
[225]
of Silicon Valley power players.
[227]
The piece described the nasty details of one
theme party, complete with copious drugs and
[232]
adult hookups.
[233]
The excerpt prompted entrepreneur Paul Biggar
to write a blog post revealing Musk had in
[238]
fact attended the party.
[240]
According to the Cut, Chang confirms this
in her book and revealed that Musk was wearing
[244]
an armor-themed costume with spikes and chains.
[248]
"Look.
[249]
Dustin Moskovitz, Elon Musk, Eric Schmidt,
whatever the f--- the guy's name is that created
[254]
Photrio."
[255]
A spokesperson for Musk confirmed he had indeed
been there for a couple hours but insisted
[260]
that Musk never realized he was in the middle
of an orgy.
[263]
Musk is a man whose work-life balance tends
to skew heavily toward work.
[268]
According to the Guardian, crunch time for
Tesla's Model 3 production schedule saw Musk
[272]
routinely clocking 120-hour weeks and popping
Ambien pills to wind down.
[277]
"Almost all my time, like 80 percent is spent
on engineering design."
[281]
Musk's notorious efficiency and hardcore work
ethic has often been celebrated by the press,
[287]
but in August 2018, he portrayed a downside
to being constantly in work mode.
[291]
In an emotional interview with the New York
Times, Musk revealed how much his killer schedule
[296]
has affected him.
[297]
He almost missed his brother's wedding and
spent his own birthday holed up in the Tesla
[300]
factory.
[302]
"I'm definitely under stress, so if I seem
like I'm not under stress then I better be
[305]
clear, I'm definitely under stress."
[307]
The fact that Musk sometimes cools down with
Ambien sedatives after his grueling work days
[312]
has added an extra element of concern for
his business associates.
[316]
Tesla board members have suspected that it's
the real reason behind his occasional strange
[320]
Twitter tirades.
[322]
"People should not work this hard.
[324]
They should not do this.
[326]
It's very painful."
[327]
"Painful in what sense?"
[329]
"It hurts my brain and my heart."
