Moral Code: Who Decides Between Right and Wrong? - YouTube

[0]
so I think we can be moral without
[1]
religion and I'm this this is but this
[4]
is about my morality abortion is moral
[6]
culture and tradition are not good
[8]
benchmarks for morality what is the
[15]
difference between right and wrong how
[18]
do you define this who defines this I'd
[23]
like to start to answer these questions
[25]
by quoting from a somewhat unlikely
[27]
source
[27]
here is what ben affleck had to say in a
[30]
New York Times article recently people
[33]
with compulsive behavior and I am one
[35]
have this kind of basic discomfort all
[38]
the time that they're trying to make go
[40]
away
[40]
he said you're trying to make yourself
[43]
feel better with eating or drinking or
[46]
sex or gambling or shopping or whatever
[48]
but that ends up making your life worse
[51]
and then you do more of it to make that
[54]
discomfort go away then the real pain
[57]
starts it becomes a vicious cycle you
[60]
can't break that's at least what
[62]
happened to me all of us have at times
[65]
had this basic kind of discomfort or
[67]
nagging feeling that the way we're
[69]
behaving is wrong and this feeling can
[71]
be compounded and can grow worse with
[73]
every decision we make how do you get
[76]
rid of that nagging feeling without
[78]
medication substance abuse or escapism
[82]
first of all in order to fix something
[85]
you need to identify the source of the
[87]
problem the problem is that most people
[90]
have little idea of the cause and effect
[93]
of their actions when the results are
[96]
not immediate I'm talking about the way
[98]
we choose to word a white lie or the
[101]
small actions we take in personal
[102]
relationships or possibly decisions set
[106]
of far more tragic results such as
[108]
whether a baby is to be kept or not
[111]
unless we identify right and wrong
[113]
actions we will continue to fail in life
[116]
relationships experiencing suffering
[119]
hurt and anguish society tries to label
[122]
right and wrong behavior under a loose
[124]
moral code but our social culture or
[127]
moral code is not the benchmark for what
[129]
is right and wrong
[131]
and this is why the secular world
[134]
believes that morality is relative in
[136]
other words whatever seems right to you
[138]
the religious world whether Christianity
[141]
Islam or Hinduism etc believes that
[144]
morality is determined by what God you
[146]
believe in or more precisely what
[148]
interpretation of text is used certain
[150]
atheists such as Sam Harris or Richard
[153]
Dawkins rely on science to define human
[155]
values with the result of our actions
[157]
determine whether or not they are moral
[159]
do they benefit the individual or
[161]
society as a whole that nagging feeling
[164]
inside of you is often not the result of
[166]
breaking society's moral code because
[169]
there is no universal agreement as to
[171]
what is moral the secularists are right
[173]
at pointing this out most people today
[175]
believe that morality is personally or
[178]
socially determined and it is defined as
[181]
a set of personal or social standards
[183]
for good or bad behavior and character
[185]
many believe it can change upon the
[188]
individual or social structure in place
[190]
it changes depending on the religious
[192]
order - again there is no universal
[195]
agreement as to what is moral here's an
[198]
example prior to 1962 sodomy was a crime
[202]
in every US state since 2003 however it
[206]
is protected as an individual's private
[210]
liberty throughout the United States
[212]
under the Due Process Clause in the US
[214]
Constitution over the course of just
[217]
over one generation a criminal act has
[220]
become a protected right of Liberty you
[223]
don't need to single out sodomy look at
[226]
marijuana laws in countries like Canada
[228]
and Uruguay or assisted suicide in the
[231]
Netherlands Belgium and elsewhere faith
[234]
in science isn't going to solve a lack
[236]
of emotional understanding of what is
[238]
right or wrong either science is the
[241]
newest religion on the block is faith in
[243]
a deity is quickly being abandoned in
[245]
the West the trouble is you can't always
[248]
persuade emotional people to apply
[250]
reason and logic science is never going
[253]
to prevent greed or social unrest and
[255]
subsequent wars so if the vast majority
[258]
of the religious and secular world have
[259]
failed to explain why we end up in
[261]
emotional
[262]
or just simply failed to get along what
[265]
is the answer all of us at tomorrow's
[268]
world firmly believe that right should
[271]
always be right and wrong should always
[273]
be wrong for everyone and that morality
[276]
is not fluid or defined by anyone other
[279]
than God certain actions and behaviors
[282]
will always cause hurt and pain on a
[285]
spiritual level others caused joy and
[287]
peace these behaviors are either
[289]
following or breaking spiritual laws
[292]
when you know deep down that what you
[296]
are doing is wrong on some level and
[298]
causes sadness or hurt to another the
[300]
rule you were breaking whether you know
[302]
it or not is a spiritual law society's
[306]
moral code does not prevent you from
[309]
actions that equate to emotional
[311]
self-harm and in fact people often go by
[313]
the adage as long as your actions didn't
[315]
harm anyone else you're free to do what
[318]
you want but that is such a destructive
[320]
mindset and shows a total lack of care
[323]
or concern over another individual in
[326]
the Bible
[328]
breaking spiritual law is defined as sin
[330]
in turn sin is defined as the breaking
[334]
of God's laws most Christians today
[336]
falsely claim that this law has been
[338]
done away with and replaced with
[340]
something akin to a hippie mantra of
[342]
acceptance love and goodwill that's not
[345]
what the text upon which Christianity is
[347]
based says Christianity has been gas-lit
[350]
into believing this and the rest of the
[353]
world aren't even close to applying
[355]
God's spiritual law we need to
[358]
understand that the source of what is
[359]
right and wrong is not decided upon by
[362]
the individual or society it has been
[364]
determined since before time began and
[366]
if you choose to learn what is right and
[369]
do what is right consistently you will
[371]
no longer suffer those nagging feelings
[373]
that you're doing something wrong you no
[375]
longer live in emotional turmoil and be
[378]
subject to every false concept of
[380]
morality that plagues the world you will
[382]
instead live by the perfect laws of
[384]
Liberty laws that lead to peace and
[387]
happiness if you liked this video please
