We are with the Fiat 500X.

As you know 500X is the new crossover of the Fiat family.

I have already tested 1.4 liters petrol engine with automatic gearbox and 4-wheel drive version and share it with you.

Now is the time to the 1.6 liters diesel engine with automatic gearbox version of the 500X that has been newly added to the series and has been impatiently awaited.

The design of the 500X has been shaped to remain faithful to the genes of the 500’s family.

In fact, if you ask me, the 500X looks like a Fiat 500 on steroids because especially when you view it from the front, you observe that these round headlamps have grown bigger,

the grill that the 500 family refers as mustache thicker and swollen and these details reveal that 500X is a member of the family.

Of course, these add-ons you see under the bumper in the front and the plastics on the fenders

and the black footboard on the side indicates to you that this car is now a crossover.

Besides, you know that the crossovers normally are hatchbacks with high ground clearance and 500X fits this definition exactly.

When we look at its sibling Renegade that is produced on the same platform, it definitely succeeds to differ by its design than its rivals in its class

but 500X even though it has the face of Fiat 500 it reveals that it is a crossover by its general design.

Naturally we encounter on steroid parts at the rear of the 500X too.

One of those is definitely the taillights here, which have been used with enlarged form.

Further there is a lusterless metal piece here that shows the brand and model and this detail under the bumper to emphasize that the 500X is a crossover.

If you ask me, this spoiler adds sportiveness to the car.

Consequently, I can say without reservation that I liked the design of the 500X very much.

The boot of the 500 on steroids, as you would guess is larger than its standard siblings, in other words it is on steroids too.

This place as it stands offers 250 liters loading capacity because there is a spare tire here.

If there was a repair kit instead of spare tire the capacity would have increased to 350 liters and I could have said that it answer the expectations well.

In this way I can say that it will satisfy your daily expectations but if your expectations are high then this place can be a bit small for you.

Now it is time to look at the living space in the interior.

I don’t know about living space but I can say that this place is warmer than outside because don’t let the sun deceive you, we are filming in a very cold day.

I am a bit cold and can’t wait to start to drive. Anyway, let me tell you about the living space here.

Ultimately, this is a small crossover and knee room within the class expectations are offered here.

Due to these two sunroofs, the headroom has decreased quite a lot but still my head does not touch here.

Only if three people sit here maybe my head may touch the sides. But apart from that, as the windows are wide you can sit here in comfort.

There is a small transmission hump here but I can put my feet alongside.

The seat is not bad if you have to, you can sit in this middle seat but if possible it is advantages to grab the right or left seats.

I am behind the steering wheel of the 500X. I have told you that I personally liked the exterior when I was outside but I am not able to say the same for the interior.

In here very high quality materials are used but in its design there are no materials to make you feel special, in other words you don’t feel you are in a standard 500.

In here you encounter buttons to indicate that it carries the genes of the 500 and the logo of 500 over the glove compartment

but when you look here you meet controls that you are accustomed more in Alfa Romeo and Jeep models.

To tell the truth, this shows me that the 500X is not unmitigated 500.

The instrument panel consists of three different hoops.

On the left speedometer, on the right tachometer, and in the middle trip computer are placed.

Frankly speaking I would have preferred the speedometer to be bigger but as the designers have put digital speedometer inside the trip computer they have preferred this way.

You have to respect it. In the end it serves the purpose.

But I cannot say the same thing for the touchscreen multimedia because even though you are able to reach to the radio, phone, navigation and applications the screen is very small.

Namely, virtually almost no mobile phone this small is left nowadays. I guess they will put bigger screen multimedia here when the 500X is facelifted.

For your small items there is a not too bad a place in front of the gear lever.

Behind the gear lever there are two cup-holders and medium built armrest but what makes 500X special is that two glove compartments are offered here.

One of them is the classical glove compartment but the one above it the refrigerated one adds practicality to the 500X.

I think it is enough to talk about the interior and we can pass to the hotly anticipated engine and driving features part.

In the car I am testing, as I have previously mentioned, 1.6 liters diesel engine with 6-speed double clutch automatic gearbox is functioning.

In other words, this 1.6 diesel engine with automatic gearbox is one of the most sought after combination in our country.

Of course with the new taxes it will be debatable how advantages this will be from now on but ultimately this engine gearbox two-some were demanded and were curious about till today.

The engine is not something we don’t know. We know it from within the scope of the Fiat engines.

It develops 120 HP and 320 Nm of torque. I can say that it satisfies all the performance requirements.

When you drive on highways like this you feel the harmony between the engine and the gearbox.

The engine with its responsive nature answers you well.

The gearbox is smooth and quite fast but it had one thing during my drive that I did not like in the city traffic.

When you are on straight road as now, with your foot on the throttle, the gear selections are very good.

The changes occur when you reach 2500 rpm and you don’t feel any jolt.

But in the city, the gearbox sometimes acts with indecision and you feel jolt in the stop-start traffic.

And this decreases your driving quality and comfort.

For the engine and gearbox two-some I can say that you can have an enjoyable drive on this type of open roads but in the city the driving comfort and quality diminishes.

If you wish, you can intervene the gearbox from the gear lever or from the pedals behind the steering wheel.

Look for example now I have downshifted from 6 up to 4.

The speed is not bad at all. It has fast responds.

The same is for stepping up the gears, for example we are at fourth gear now.

It is not bad, I cannot say that it changes the gears in great speed but it answers your wishes.

You are able to select driving modes in the 500X by this unit behind the gear lever.

Normally the car advances in Auto mode but if you like you can select Sport.

The Sport reminds me the DNA in the Alfa Romeo models because when you select Sport the gas thrust sharpen and even if you do not press the throttle the car flash forward.

To me to drive in this mode is the most enjoyable.

Next to the Sport mode there is Traction mode.

This is mostly for off-road since it intervenes with the electronic stabilizer program and even though the car is front drive it makes it more capable.

The steering responses are not bad and I can say that it is even more sensitive than many Fiat models.

Especially when you select Sport mode the electrically supported steering becomes rigid and adds to your driving comfort.

The insulation is in a reasonable level.

In other words there is not much noise but I never can say that it is silent.

The suspensions are firm. It has both advantages and disadvantages.

That is to say, if you are on curvy roads like now, it holds the road well and you are happy but in the city and on rough surfaces or on speed bumps this firmness lowers your comfort level.

Especially the ones sitting behind the car feel the lowering of the comfort more.

Finally, let us consider the fuel consumption.

I have taken this car at zero km from the dealer and started testing. At the moment I have driven 196 km.

The trip computer indicates to me 7.5 liters fuel consumption averages.

This value may come quite high to the factory specification of 4.5 liters but in the daily use you should know that this is about the value you will achieve.

I also should mention that the value was higher when I drove in İstanbul traffic and got down when I drove outside the city.

Whether in the small or in compact crossover class the competition is extremely tough especially after the new comers Toyota CH-R and Peugeot 3008.

It will be like getting blood from a stone hard.

Is 500X a bad car? Definitely not. But you have to be sympathizer of 500.

Even though this 1.6 liters diesel engine with automatic gearbox has strengthen the hand of 500X, there are too many choices in the market.

And if you ask me its price is not very reasonable as well. That is to say, this car with Cross Plus equipment has a price of 95.400 TL.
