[0]
welcome back it's fomo time taking a
[2]
look at DraftKings stocks made an
[4]
impressive rally really what's been
[7]
building on it looks like going back to
[9]
may but I would say it really kicked it
[11]
into overdrive the latter parts of last
[14]
month so it's really been the better
[16]
parts of let's say two three weeks that
[18]
DraftKings has really kicked into gear
[20]
here and moved back over the 20 Mark
[22]
I've probably have too much to say about
[24]
drafting so I'm gonna try to consolidate
[26]
because I think this is such a fun name
[28]
to talk about given of course that we
[29]
are ahead of the NFL season which is
[31]
also a great time for DraftKings as well
[33]
as myself as I am passionate into
[35]
fantasy football but DraftKings like
[37]
Alex you just pointed out has seen a
[39]
nice few weeks now putting actually it's
[41]
month-to-date gains at around 50 percent
[43]
I mentioned the week-to-date gain at
[45]
around 14 but that is it's dwarfs
[48]
basically the gain it's seen over the
[50]
last several weeks part of this was when
[52]
they would release their second quarter
[54]
earnings last week we did see an 11
[56]
Spike last Friday now today we're just
[59]
building on that momentum now last week
[61]
they did raise their guidance and they
[63]
highlighted actually regarding more
[65]
States launching legal sports betting
[67]
which then fits the news today very
[69]
perfectly when they jumped after
[71]
Massachusetts basically passed a bill or
[74]
signed a bill into law that will allow
[76]
legal sports betting which of course
[78]
then benefits a name like DraftKings and
[80]
I have to imagine pen gaming as well but
[83]
they do say say they expect to perform
[84]
better than they had initially
[86]
anticipated going forward which is
[88]
sentiment we're not really hearing
[90]
across the board so I think that was
[91]
very welcomed by the street and I think
[94]
the another highlight of this company is
[96]
that their actual monthly unique paying
[98]
customers Rose 30 percent in second
[100]
quarter from a year ago more interesting
[102]
than that though their average revenue
[104]
per customer also jumped 30 percent to
[107]
103 dollars which was I think promising
[110]
for this company that has been beaten
[112]
down so significantly since really it's
[115]
I its IPO I mean this name saw such a
[117]
surge and then has seen such this fall
[120]
sort of alongside so many of these high
[122]
beta names Alex we discussed now 35
[125]
States including Washington DC have
[128]
legalized Sports wagering however
[130]
DraftKings operates only in 17 States
[133]
and they did say they're looking to
[134]
expand into Maryland Ohio Puerto Rico
[136]
and Kansas which would then actually
[138]
bring its sports betting offerings to 44
[141]
of the United States this is very very
[143]
promising to me because I'd say this
[145]
means they're actually under penetrating
[148]
this Market that they still have room to
[149]
grow I think that's always promising
[151]
when you can say that this doesn't look
[153]
like an over saturated Market they only
[155]
if they gained those States they only
[157]
have 44 of the U.S so I just think that
[160]
just goes to show the growth story that
[163]
is still DraftKings they also have
[165]
expanded on their advertising I've said
[167]
it before I'll say it again DraftKings
[168]
ads follow me everywhere I mean they are
[171]
they must spend like a fortune on that
[173]
because I cannot Escape it but I think
[175]
perhaps a good thing for brand
[177]
recognition when of course you're
[178]
competing with other big names and sort
[180]
of trying to get your consumers to be
[182]
loyal to you they're also in their most
[185]
recent earnings call last week they said
[187]
they had not been impacted by the
[190]
broader weakness in the economy so very
[192]
promising report from them last week and
[194]
we're sort of seeing that sentiment now
[196]
trickle into this week although I guess
[198]
the week is basically over but a 14 gain
[200]
for this week not bad
[202]
yeah and companies like DraftKings and
[204]
the kind of customer acquisition phase
[206]
of uh the company where they're not yet
[208]
profitable they have a business model
[210]
that has been established for a long
[212]
time in terms of uh the sports wagering
[214]
and and setting the odds and and how
[217]
things are set with the minus 110
[218]
ultimately that could be disrupted down
[220]
the line but
[222]
they're not making money because they're
[223]
spending all of their money trying to
[225]
get more players right now or payers or
[227]
into their program or into their
[230]
offering they're making two big bets one
[232]
the continued legalization and expansion
[235]
of markets through of course the
[237]
legislature out of their control they
[239]
can do their best alongside their peers
[241]
in the industry to to lobby for that and
[243]
ultimately down the line we'll see where
[244]
it goes but more or less in in their
[248]
control depending on who you ask would
[250]
be the loyalty to their app or their
[253]
sports book I would say the Casual
[254]
better
[255]
only wants to put you know a handful of
[257]
dollars on a game that they're watching
[258]
probably isn't going to sign up for 30
[260]
different ones and shop around for the
[262]
best lines the more uh entrenched those
[265]
are into this world though the more
[267]
likely they're going to be doing that
[268]
and so DraftKings is really trying to
[270]
get the Casual better uh the smaller
[272]
wager uh kind of Market into their
[275]
platform and hoping that they'll be the
[277]
Premier Premier player uh within this uh
[280]
ever expanding Market uh we'll see if
[282]
they're able to execute on that names
[283]
like FanDuel and of course a lot of the
[285]
Legacy players are trying their best to
[287]
make sure that DraftKings doesn't run
[289]
away from the pack if you will but uh
[292]
it's certainly going to be an
[293]
interesting thing to watch unfold but I
[295]
think you made a good point in terms of
[297]
you know how are they uh well they're
[299]
one they're not making any money but
[300]
they have to be spending a fortune on
[301]
ads and they are yeah and I think that's
[303]
a really good point that the fact that
[305]
they're not yet profitable because
[306]
they're not it's not like they're
[307]
dominating this Market I mean they are
[309]
still one of the many players I just
[311]
think it's so interesting to see really
[312]
from a country standpoint that there is
[315]
so much room for really all these names
[317]
to grow so it's sort of like this could
[318]
be beneficiary to all these names with
[321]
the fact that we just don't have all of
[322]
our states legal in terms of sports
[324]
vetting which I don't really understand
[326]
why but that's my own personal take but
[327]
when we're looking at trading this name
[329]
Alex of course earnings are behind us
[331]
they were last week we have seen a nice
[332]
run-up this week and this month Shares
[335]
are still down about 28 year-to-date
[337]
though
[338]
yeah and so again I talked about at the
[340]
beginning of the show varying degree is
[342]
the probability of success in varying
[344]
degrees of notional risk and so this
[346]
one's going to be kind of smack dab in
[348]
the middle it's a bullish example trade
[349]
in which we're buying a call vertical
[351]
one of the strikes is going to be in the
[353]
money one of the strikes is going to be
[354]
out of the money and the idea is to have
[356]
a one-to-one risk reward ratio so kind
[359]
of a 50 50 odds is kind of how that
[362]
would be priced and then break even
[364]
being basically where we currently trade
[366]
and so what I think is interesting here
[368]
if we kind of go through of course the
[370]
strikes we're going out to September
[371]
buying the 17 and a half selling the 22
[373]
and a half for uh two dollars and fifty
[375]
cents Break Even would be 20. the time
[377]
the stock was trading roughly 20 it's
[378]
extended its gains a little bits closer
[380]
to 20 and a half now so I would be
[382]
surprised if this was trading for uh 250
[386]
at this point might have crept up a
[388]
little bit but nonetheless for the
[390]
thought experiment uh Jenny I think it's
[392]
interesting because if you look at going
[394]
back to rivien we spent the least amount
[396]
of money but we needed something to
[398]
happen in the case of Baba for the most
[402]
risk we needed nothing to happen we just
[404]
couldn't be wrong and in the case of
[406]
DraftKings we took a middle amount of
[408]
risk in this particular illustration and
[410]
if we're if we're just nothing happens
[412]
we don't we're not right we're not wrong
[413]
we break even if we're wrong we lose
[416]
money and if we're right we could make
[418]
money and I think this is really what it
[420]
comes down to any of these strategies
[422]
could be applied to any name depending
[424]
on a particular conviction level of a
[427]
particular Trader on whatever the name
[429]
may be they could be flipped around and
[430]
looked at on the put side for uh in the
[433]
case of the call uh calendar and the
[436]
call vertical and then of course in the
[437]
case where we sold for who you could
[439]
sell a call vertical if you're more
[440]
bearish
[441]
in this case we're just using these
[444]
names as our illustration for these
[446]
conversations but you can see risk
[448]
profile rather than being up in the
[450]
profit Zone like we were for Alibaba
[452]
we're actually down in the break even
[454]
Zone uh in DraftKings if we're wrong we
[456]
can lose 250 if we're right we can make
[458]
250 break even be 20. but I wanted to
[460]
illustrate something else here on the
[462]
chart
[463]
red is the the Lost Zone dashed line is
[467]
Break Even gold is the profit Zone you
[470]
can really see the perspective one this
[471]
rally over uh the last few uh weeks and
[474]
going back to may but also that we
[477]
chopped around in this zone for quite
[479]
some time during the first quarter of
[481]
this year if you're looking at that and
[483]
saying maybe that'll happen again
[485]
possibly opportunities uh to see this
[487]
one reach Max profitability I think you
[490]
put that really well and I also think
[491]
it's a way to sort of consider hey
[492]
shares jumped as high as 74 dollars a
[494]
share and have fallen as low as around
[496]
nine dollars so now at about 20 50 it's
[499]
sort of way to consider the fact that
[501]
there is some risk with this name just
[503]
given its volatility over the last year
[504]
but this trade does also contain
[506]
multiple legs that can lead to higher
[508]
transaction fees short options can be
[510]
assigned at any time and carrying option
[511]
positions into expiration can add risk
[514]
like unanticipated exercise or
[516]
assignment
