Today we will talk about arcade stick buttons

And how to change them on your favorite fightstick

In this video we will talk about Sanwa buttons

"Sanwa Denshi" from the Japanese company who is the worldwide leader

And THE reference in terms of arcade stick buttons

They are the same buttons that you can find

On most of the fightstick in the market

And also on the vast majority of the arcade cabinets of Old

Using Sanwa buttons makes your fightstick more premium

If you own an arcade stick like the Venom or the Mayflash F500

That are considered not as high-grade than the so-called "premium" fightsticks

And that you want to upgrade your fightstick

I advise you to buy Sanwa buttons

If you already own a Mad Catz TE2+ fightstick

Or a Razer Panthera

Or a Qanba Obsidian

You already have pre-installed Sanwa buttons on your fightstick

But then, why should I bother changing ?

Simply because of customization !

Either color swap to match the buttons with the artwork

Or Sound, to be able to play at night without

Waking up your loved ones

Or simply change brands or models to have different

Specs than everybody else !

"Hey buddy, give me back my stick !"

"Oops, sorry I thought it was mine"

There's a lot of products in the Sanwa catalogue but don't you worry

I will try my best to guide you to make a savvy choice !

OBSF-30

First of all, the basic Sanwa button It is a snap-in button, we call it 30mm

Meaning it fits a 30mm-diameter hole

There's also a 24mm variant

The button is composed of three easily separable parts

The "Plunger", the "Rim" and the "Microswitch"

You guessed it, it will be possible for you to mix and match the plungers and the rims

In order to make a unique color combinaison

OBSFS-30

Same button as its older brother OBSF-30 but this one is called "silent"

At least, quieter than the OBSF-30

The technology behind this quietness is simply due to a foam pad

Inside the button that damps the sound of it when pressed

It removes the plastic-smashing-plastic sound !

However the purists would say that with this foam pad it shortens the throw

The OBSFE-30 button is the latest entry in the Sanwa catalogue

It's the second generation of "Silent" button

Bye bye foam pad ! And hello to the plunger 2.0 made in Sanwa !

The plunger is now broken down into two parts :

The first part in contact with the fingers is convex and in a ferm plastic

While the second part of the plunger that we can't see is in a softer matter

With this system the throw remains the same as the base OBSF button

As for the sound emission, it is not as quiet as the OBSFS

The main flaw of this OBSFE button is its limited color offerings

Only 4 colors exist for this model

OBSJ reference is composed of Metallic Gold

Metallic Silver

Gun Metal

Metallic Blue

Metallic Red

and Metallic Pink buttons

The metallic aspect of the buttons is appreciable, but its main flaw is its price

That is much higher than the other buttons' !

Note that the metallic layer does wash out with time

And use, revealing the white undercoat where you smash the button

Furthermore, the tabs on this range are even more fragile than on the others

The OBSC-30 buttons are the transparent buttons

They are the ones you need if you want to install LED backlighting on your arcade stick

They are available in several colors

You will be able to install an artwork on each individual plunger

As for the flaws, the sound of these buttons is even more plasticky

Due to how the plunger is mounted

And like all the snap-in models, a hateful tendency to have tabs that

Easily break when you are try to remove them

Now if we want to achieve LED backlighting only on the rim

As opposed to the whole button, we can pick the OBSF-CR-30

The rim is transparent and colorless while we can choose the plunger amongst the 13 colors available

And last but not least the OBSN buttons which are the screw-in buttons and not snap-in buttons !

Made for thicker panels, they can also be mounted easily on most

Steel panels of market fightsticks

If you are the kind of person who likes to swap regularly the buttons whenever you feel like it

This is THE solution for you !

However, on some fightsticks like the Qanba Obsidian you may encounter not enough space

For the nut to screw the button properly

Especially on the top row or the bottom-left button

Because of the steel mounting plate for the joystick

Regardless of the Sanwa button you choose

You'll end up with the Sanwa SW-68 microswitch inside which will activate at the slightest of touch

Sanwa guarantees it will work for a million cycles

So you can be assured to have a long-lasting product

Note that a new microswitch exists: the SW-68-CAU sold with its adapter wires

Which shares the same specifications than its illustrious predecessor but does have the advantage

To have a lower blockage than its older brother

This is useful to the people who want to build a thinner arcade stick for themselves

Without resolving to bend the 2.8mm terminals of the base Sanwa button microswitch

Now "Colors"

There are 13 colors for the classic OBSF range :

"White"

"Pink"

"Violet" which is more pink than purple

"Midnight Blue"

"Royal Blue"

"Sky Blue"

"Green"

"Yellow"

"Orange"

"Vermillon", between Red and Orange

"Red"

"Black"

And "Dark Hai"

With these 13 colors you can easily match

Your buttons to your artwork or to the theme of your arcade stick

Like the yellow and white for Vegeta

The Metallic Silver for Ultra Instinct Goku

Transparent red and transparent blue for Akuma

Or the transparent Smoke (LED backlit) in 24mm and 30mm for this Hitbox Cyberpunk version

You understand now that an arcade stick is not a mere controller that allows us to play our favorite games

It is also the mirror of our own personality, our taste and own preference,

Or the image of our lastest passions

It can also become a collector's item that we will put on display
