[84]
Before the pandemic over 60% of Americans would struggle to cover a $500 emergency and
[92]
over 50% were living pay check to pay check.
[98]
So how do politicians not think an 18 month emergency would have financial repercussions
[104]
on this 60%.
[106]
Many haven t had a $500 emergency, they ve had months of $500 emergencies.
[114]
The US government is in a very sticky situation.
[123]
On the one hand they have bills that need to be passed in order to improve the physical
[128]
infrastructure and create new jobs.
[131]
On the other hand, they have spent more than double what they bring in in taxes from the
[136]
people.
[137]
On the one hand they have $28 trillion in debt and will have to raise the debt ceiling
[143]
in order to avoid defaulting on loans owed to other countries, US backed bonds and T
[149]
bills as well as shutting down the federal government.
[153]
On the other hand, they have 10 s of millions of people on the verge of poverty, eviction,
[162]
falling below their income as prices rise at the pump, grocery store and just about
[168]
every where else.
[170]
Don t envy the position these politicians are in yet they continue to fight each other
[175]
instead of work together.
[180]
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the United States must raise their debt ceiling before
[186]
the end of September or their will be massive consequences.
[189]
In 2011 under then president Barack Obama, the debt ceiling was not raised.
[196]
The United States reputation for paying its debts dropped and so did the stock market.
[204]
Republicans plan to use this debt ceiling issues to negotiate wasteful spending out
[210]
of the $3.5 trillion spending bill.
[214]
Senator Thune said the $3.5 trillion spending bill is full of discretionary spending that
[221]
does not need to happen right now.
[223]
However, democrats are already pushing back on this idea saying their agenda items are
[228]
necessary and will change the country for the better.
[232]
However, the bill and the country changing agenda items aren t in writing so we don t
[240]
know what they plan to spend the $3.5 trillion on.
[246]
Now I have a lot more to share with you, but first let me tell you about todays video sponsor.
[283]
Pause
[349]
According to an article on The Hill, future generations will likely live a much lower
[354]
level of living standards.
[357]
One economist said the America of the future could be markedly different than what we know
[363]
now if productivity isn t increased and debt reigned in.
[370]
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she isn t working on a bill or plans to bring a bill
[375]
to the floor until the senate does.
[378]
So unlike last year where she was leading the charge on bills, stimulus check packages
[385]
and everything else, now she is defaulting to waiting on the Senate to know what will
[390]
be in the American Families Plan.
[397]
Will there be a $2000 stimulus Check.
[405]
It seems all her efforts right now are on the January 6th capitol breach.
[410]
I d like to know the truth of that day, but I d also like to see her look out for the
[420]
10 s of millions of Americans struggling right now.
[427]
According to an article on CNN democrats would like $120 billion to be added to the American
[434]
Families Plan to help around 8 million people become citizens of the united states.
[441]
These 8 million are in the DACA program.
[445]
However, its not clear whether the Congressional Budget office or the Senate Parlimentarian
[453]
would allow this into a reconciliation budget vote.
[457]
So this $120 billion could be part of the $3.5 trillion or it might be rejected.
[466]
Democrats knows that Republicans aren t going to vote to spend $120 billion so they want
[473]
to try to put it into the American Families Plan.
[497]
Representative Jesus Garcia of Illinois said he won t vote for the $3.5 trillion bill unless
[505]
it has immigration reform and a path way to make more immigrants citizens.
[512]
Other democrats in the House have expressed similar views.
[517]
Representative Jayapal says it is time for the Biden administration to get serious about
[523]
wiping out poverty in the United States.
[527]
They have full power and she wants to see cash payments going to the poor.
[536]
Now representative Jayapal didn t say how much she wants to see as cash payments but
[543]
when I hear cash payments I think of the words stimulus check.
[547]
I also think of the words Universal Basic Income.
[553]
It appears Jayapal might be gearing up to thrown Cash Payments into the American Families
[561]
Plan once we get to
[585]
that stage.
[586]
I ve said for over a month now that I don t think stimulus checks or cash payments will
[598]
happen for 167 million americans but according to many economists there are about 25 million
[607]
americans that stand in great need of cash payments
[622]
or a 4th stimulus check.
[634]
By the way, thank you so much for giving my videos a like.
[639]
The research required to do one of these videos takes hours and hours of research so I hope
[646]
you find value in them.
[653]
Going back to the debt ceiling situation, the United States technically runs out of
[658]
money at the end of July.
[661]
However, secretary of treasury Janet Yellen says she will deploy extraordinary measures
[668]
to get the US through the end of September so Washington DC can get through their 2 infrastructure
[677]
bills.
[693]
Yesterday tens of thousands of Americans marched in Washington DC asking for President Biden
[699]
to step up and help Cuba gain its freedom.
[702]
So far the white house has been quiet on helping Cuba.
[707]
Today Senators Warren and Schumer called on President Biden to extend the moratorium on
[714]
student loan debt and the immediately wipe out $50,000 of student loan debt.
[721]
These two said, this move would immediately help 43 million americans.
[728]
The student loan debt to the United States Government is $1.6 trillion collectively.
[738]
Last Fall then President Trump signed into law the student loan debt repayment being
[743]
pushed off.
[744]
However, Schumer and Warren say they are disappointed President Biden hasn t done much to help those
[751]
with student loan debt.
[753]
Schumer said, To make borrowers repay their debts now would be unfair, would be harsh,
[759]
and in many instances would be cruel.
[762]
People were thrown off their stride by COVID.
[765]
Give them a chance to recover, Representative Ayana Pressley said come September
[771]
many students will have to choose between paying their debt or food or housing.
[777]
This incredibly unfair.
[779]
This is an issue that will need to be dealt with soon.
[782]
An issue that needs to be dealt with even sooner is how many are on fixed income and
[789]
already having to choose between paying a bill and food.
[803]
Many under social security benefits have been waiting for President Biden to keep his campaign
[809]
promise of increasing social security administration monthly benefits by $200 a month.
[818]
There is always so much going on in Washington DC.
[821]
There could be money for helping new citizens but not existing citizens.
[825]
There might not be stimulus checks but there could be cash payments or survival checks.
[831]
The focus and the language around who will be helped seems to change every few days.
[837]
I appreciate you being in my community while I try to break this all down in a short of
[843]
