Top 10 Most Hated Cities in The United States - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
(gentle music)
[2]
- [Briggs] Hate is a strong word,
[3]
but is there a major
city in the United States
[5]
that you actually hate?
[6]
A lot of people say
[7]
that they have a city or two that they do.
[8]
They hate it.
[9]
What is going on, everyone?
[10]
Welcome back the "World
According to Briggs"
[11]
in a video about cities people hate.
[14]
Over the years,
[14]
there've been a lot of
surveys and research
[16]
on how people feel about
different cities and states
[19]
in the United States
[20]
and actually the world.
[21]
Today, we're just looking at the US.
[22]
Gallup and Pew Research
have done different studies
[25]
on this subject.
[26]
US census has looked at different aspects
[28]
of how people feel about cities.
[29]
Some travel websites have done polls.
[31]
And one company actually asked truckers
[33]
what cities they hate.
[34]
Last week, I asked the
question on this channel
[36]
and I got some good information from that.
[38]
We took all the different studies
[40]
and looked for the cities
[41]
that showed up most frequently.
[43]
My favorite survey asked people
[44]
to name three cities they hate
[46]
and came up with what percentage
[47]
of the respondents had each
city in their top three,
[50]
and the reason most often given
[52]
for why they hate that city.
[54]
Keep in mind, we're looking
at the negative side
[55]
of the subject.
[56]
So when you wanna leave your comment,
[58]
understand that all cities on this list
[59]
are not 100% bad.
[61]
Like any location,
[62]
whether it's a city, state,
[64]
town or country,
[65]
it has some good as well.
[67]
We're just looking at
[68]
the negative side of it on this video.
[70]
We'll do a second video
[70]
where we look at cities people love.
[73]
Even the ones that people love,
[75]
I could tell you this,
[76]
the greatest city and
everyone seems to love it,
[77]
but there's got to be things in there
[79]
that some people don't like.
[80]
Maybe it's the greatest
city in the world low taxes,
[82]
low houses,
[83]
great jobs,
[84]
but they got horrible traffic.
[85]
There's always a negative.
[86]
There's always a positive.
[87]
Today's list is ranked on
the percentage of people
[90]
that listed these 10 cities
[91]
in their most hated three.
[93]
All right, let's see who sucks.
[96]
Number 10, Louisville, Kentucky.
[98]
This one caught me a little off guard.
[99]
I've been to Louisville a
few times over the years
[102]
and I really liked it.
[103]
The only problem I had
[104]
is I just didn't fit in.
[106]
It wasn't my crowd.
[107]
I did comedy there once for three nights
[109]
and they just didn't like me,
[110]
or maybe they were jealous
I had all my teeth.
[112]
Who knows?
[113]
But Louisville, in my opinion,
[114]
is a beautiful city.
[116]
As I did the research for this,
[117]
I found out that's not everyone's opinion.
[119]
Louisville is the 16,973rd
ranked city in the USA.
[124]
It's kind of far down on the food chain,
[125]
if you ask me.
[126]
Crime is 88% above the national average.
[129]
And 38% of the people surveyed
[131]
had Louisville in their
top three most hated.
[134]
The biggest reasons they give,
[135]
crime, schools and politics.
[138]
Number nine, Miami, Florida.
[140]
This isn't the first time
[142]
that I've seen reports or surveys,
[143]
where people say that they hate Miami.
[145]
Miami has a lot of good food,
[147]
a diverse population,
[148]
and warm weather.
[149]
It also has high crime,
[151]
bad schools, brutal traffic,
[152]
high cost of living,
[153]
and housing prices that are 35% higher
[155]
than the national average.
[156]
Miami is 21,552nd ranked
city in the United States.
[162]
41% of the people had Miami
[164]
in their three most hated.
[166]
The reasons they give,
[167]
most often, crime,
[168]
housing and poverty.
[171]
Number eight, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
[174]
We don't talk about Philadelphia
[175]
that much on this channel,
[176]
unless we're talking about historic stuff.
[179]
That's one of the best
things about Philly.
[180]
Their history is just outstanding.
[183]
You could spend a week there
[184]
and still not see everything.
[185]
You can't beat it for
its history, tourism,
[187]
and it's no slouch when
it comes to sports either.
[190]
A butt load of people
don't care about that stuff
[192]
because they show the
city of brotherly love
[194]
no love.
[195]
Philadelphia is the 24,702nd ranked city
[199]
in the United States.
[200]
24,000, that's weird.
[201]
It's one of our best
cities too, in my opinion.
[204]
44% of the people
surveyed had Philadelphia
[206]
in their three most hated cities.
[208]
The reasons they gave,
[209]
it's too crowded,
[210]
crime, unemployment,
[211]
and schools.
[213]
Number seven, Riverside, California.
[215]
Now, I was on the fence with this one.
[217]
Riverside has never seemed
like a major city to me,
[219]
but I guess some people
do see it that way.
[221]
It fits the over 300,000
threshold, barely.
[225]
So technically I guess it is a major city.
[227]
It's not a mega city like Chicago,
[229]
New York or Los Angeles,
[230]
but it's a major city.
[231]
If you ever visit Riverside,
[232]
you'll agree that this place does blow.
[234]
You'll probably reflect back on this list
[235]
and wonder why more people
didn't say they hated it.
[238]
It's the 21,748th ranked
city in the United States.
[243]
Kind of low on the totem pole.
[244]
Not as low as Philadelphia,
[246]
but still, they have high crime,
[248]
bad schools,
[249]
poverty.
[249]
And 47% of the people had Riverside
[252]
on their three most hated list.
[254]
The reasons they gave,
[255]
crime, traffic,
[256]
air quality,
[257]
pollution,
[258]
and schools.
[260]
Number six, New York city, New York.
[263]
This isn't a surprise,
[264]
probably not to anyone.
[265]
New York city is an acquired taste.
[267]
Most people that do visit,
[268]
realize that that's really
all they wanna do is visit.
[270]
And if you look at the
cost of living and housing,
[272]
most realize that
[273]
a visit is all they can afford to do.
[275]
People started flooding
out in New York city
[277]
a few years back
[277]
and it's not slowing down
[279]
probably anytime soon.
[280]
New York city is ranked
[281]
as the 18,097th city in the United States.
[286]
52% of the people surveyed
[288]
had them in their top three.
[289]
And the things they listed,
[291]
cost of living,
[291]
cost of housing,
[292]
traffic,
[293]
and crime.
[295]
Number five, St. Louis, Missouri.
[297]
St. Louis is a nightmare,
[298]
even more so if you add east
St. Louis into that mix,
[301]
which is in Illinois, not Missouri.
[303]
I read a tweet once
[304]
that described east St.
Louis Saturday night
[306]
like the D-Day invasion with better music.
[309]
Yeah, they got some serious violent crime
[310]
going on over there.
[311]
But St. Louis doesn't have
the best stats either.
[314]
They're the 26,126th ranked
city in the United States
[318]
and the 900th best place
to live in Missouri.
[321]
They are knocking it out
of the park in suckage.
[324]
53% of the people had St.
Louis in their top three.
[327]
And the reasons they gave,
[328]
crime,
[329]
employment,
[330]
housing and schools.
[333]
Number four, Los Angeles, California.
[336]
LA is where I was born and raised.
[337]
I grew up in a nicer area
called the South Bay,
[340]
and it still sort of sucked.
[341]
It wasn't that bad until I would say
[343]
the early '90s,
[344]
that's when it made a turn.
[345]
It was like crime was going up
[347]
and so were the home prices,
[349]
which never makes sense.
[350]
Crime goes up.
[351]
Home prices are supposed to go down.
[352]
That's the natural order.
[354]
Not here.
[354]
It's too close to the
beach for that to happen.
[356]
Anyway, most of LA has sucked since,
[359]
I don't know,
[359]
before humans got there,
[361]
really.
[362]
They actually have an area called
[363]
the The La Brea Tar Pits
[364]
that used to trap all
kinds of creatures back
[366]
way before people got here.
[367]
Every so often some old
bones would rise to the top.
[370]
It's always seems to be like
[370]
a wooly mammoth or (indistinct),
[372]
I don't know the difference
between the two of them.
[374]
But it's always those furry elephants.
[375]
It's their bones that are
always floating up to the top.
[378]
I had to go like three field trips there
[379]
when I was a kid.
[380]
Everybody knows LA sucks
[382]
so I don't need to explain that to you.
[383]
What I will explain to you is that
[385]
it is the 27,342nd best place to live
[388]
in the United States.
[390]
That's not a good number.
[391]
56% of the people surveyed
[393]
had Los Angeles on their
three most hated cities.
[397]
Reasons given, more than anything,
[399]
it was traffic.
[401]
Cost of living,
[401]
it's outrageously expensive there
[403]
so you'd think it would
be the cost of living.
[404]
No, traffic's number one there.
[406]
It goes traffic,
[407]
cost of living,
[407]
cost of housing,
[408]
crime.
[410]
Number three, Baltimore, Maryland.
[412]
Baltimore has crime, poverty,
[414]
despair, bad schools,
[415]
and a sliver of hope.
[416]
Really, they might be turning the corner.
[418]
I keep reading more
and more tech companies
[420]
are moving to Baltimore
[421]
or have plans to move to Baltimore.
[423]
So maybe there's a future.
[425]
Maybe it'll be better in years to come.
[427]
But I wouldn't hold your breath.
[428]
I think it's about two decades away.
[430]
They got a giant hurdle to get over
[431]
with their crime and poverty.
[433]
Baltimore is the 25th
thousand best place to live
[435]
in the United States.
[437]
Yeah, 25,062 to be exact.
[441]
Maryland's a pretty small state,
[442]
and Baltimore is only the 400th
[444]
best place to live in the entire state.
[447]
400th.
[448]
56% of the people had Baltimore
[450]
in their three most hated list.
[452]
The reason they give,
[453]
crime, poverty.
[456]
Number two, Las Vegas, Nevada.
[459]
Yeah, I was kind of shocked at this one.
[461]
Most people love Las Vegas.
[463]
And I think a lot of the people
[464]
that put it down as
their most hated places,
[466]
probably had something to do with
[468]
them not having a good time there.
[470]
A lot of people go there
[471]
and lose a lot of money.
[472]
And that'll kind of
stick in someone's croft
[474]
for quite some time.
[475]
I've dropped some serious
coin there over the years
[477]
and I don't feel good
about it to this day.
[479]
The last time I probably
lost a good amount of money
[481]
was over a decade ago,
[482]
and it still burns like it was yesterday.
[484]
So yeah, I got an axe to
grind against Las Vegas too
[487]
as proof that it just
may be gambling losers
[490]
that hate Las Vegas.
[492]
They're ranked the 44th
best city to live in
[495]
in Nevada.
[496]
Now, Nevada doesn't have a ton of cities,
[497]
but still, that's one
of the lowest numbers
[499]
of anything on this list,
[501]
by a good stretch too.
[502]
And Las Vegas is the 10,852nd
[505]
best place to live in the United States.
[507]
Now keep in mind,
[508]
some of these are like
bordering on the 30,000th area
[512]
and 20,000.
[513]
That is absolute the lowest
[514]
we've had on this list.
[515]
But that didn't stop.
[516]
58% of the people surveyed
[517]
to put down Las Vegas as
one of the three cities
[520]
they hate the most.
[521]
The reasons they listed
were crime and heat.
[525]
That's it.
[526]
They didn't have traffic or anything else.
[528]
It was just crime and heat.
[531]
All right, before we get to number one,
[534]
let me give you a little update
[534]
on the survey we did on my channel.
[536]
I asked everyone, what
city do you hate the most?
[538]
The three winners were
Dallas at number three,
[541]
Portland, Oregon at number two,
[542]
and San Francisco at number one.
[544]
Oddly enough, I went back
[545]
and looked at all the other research,
[547]
and none of those were in the top 20.
[549]
One other thing to tell you,
[550]
we also have another
channel called "On This Day"
[551]
There's a link below.
[553]
We'd love it if you check it out.
[554]
Maybe subscribe.
[555]
All right, onto number one.
[557]
And number one, Detroit, Michigan.
[560]
Detroit has been in bad shape forever.
[563]
We've talked about this many, many times
[565]
on this channel.
[566]
And I've also told you,
[567]
there is a glimmer of hope.
[568]
Some jobs have filtered back in
[571]
over the last five, six years.
[572]
The downtown area has kind
of turned itself around.
[575]
It's just outside of downtown blows.
[578]
And I just recently said,
[580]
if you look at downtown,
[581]
it looks nice.
[582]
Looking at it from the satellite view,
[583]
they've had to tear down
[584]
so many abandoned homes around
the outside of downtown.
[587]
It almost looks like there's farmland
[589]
around Detroit in some areas.
[591]
But no, it's just homes
that were abandoned.
[593]
Homeless people were squatting in them,
[595]
setting them on fire sometimes.
[597]
So just to cut out some of the problems,
[598]
they just decided to
start mowing them over.
[601]
That's how bad Detroit has been,
[602]
where they have homes
that are a complete loss.
[605]
People have abandoned them,
[606]
and the city's got to just mow them down
[609]
because no one's taking care of them.
[611]
Think about any other
city in the United States.
[613]
Most of us would just love to have a home
[616]
that we could move into for a good price.
[618]
Detroit at one point
[620]
was offering to sell homes for $1
[622]
and they still couldn't unload them.
[624]
I'm not even joking.
[625]
A dollar.
[626]
Detroit is the 655th
ranked city in Michigan.
[630]
And in the United States,
[631]
it's ranked 26,879th.
[634]
Yeah, that blows.
[634]
62% of the people surveyed
had Detroit down on their list
[638]
as one of the three they hated the most.
[640]
Reasons given,
[641]
crime, poverty and unemployment.
[644]
(gentle music)
[648]
All right, that's today's video.
[650]
Hope you guys enjoyed it.
[651]
Hope you got some information out of it.
[652]
Everybody, have a great day.
[655]
Be nice to each other.
