but there's one that almost all of us

shopping in the premium category will

have considered and i went out to

stunning barcelona to drive the latest

rendition of it

this is the new mercedes glc merc's

latest version of their very popular

medium-sized suv and in fact this car is

the best selling premium suv in the
[35]
whole of europe

or at least it was until the tesla model

y came along however with this latest
[41]
version mercedes are really hoping to
[44]
get back on that throne

this 2022 model promises better
[51]
technology better comfort and because
[54]
every single version of the car is some
[56]
form of hybrid it also promises to be
[59]
cheaper to run but this is a mercedes
[62]
after all so it has to look good the new
[64]
car is 60 millimeters longer than before
[67]
it's slightly lower and more narrow has
[69]
a bigger grille new digital headlights a
[72]
knee front bumper new wheel designs with
[74]
body colored wheel arches and a new rear
[78]
bumper with smaller more stylish rear

so the outside is not very different but

the inside really is it's very similar

to the new c-class which is a very good

thing the old glc had a more simple

tablet design but this 12-inch screen is

very classy and i really like these

vents they look really funky and they

okay first impressions are very positive

the seats are really comfy and really

supportive and the driving position is

very good and i will tell you more about

why that is so easy to achieve in a

it has four dynamic modes so it has

sport eco comfort and off-road and i'm

currently driving in comfort mode and
[156]
you can really tell it feels very smooth

petrol and diesel models come with

standard suspension but are upgradable
[165]
to air suspension which comes standard
[168]
in the plug-in hybrid but whichever you
[170]
go for the glc is definitely more supple

than the tesla model y which as rory

is a bit too firm

especially with the 21 21-inch wheels

also something i'm really noticing is

that it doesn't feel like a really big

car to drive

you know how sometimes when you get into

a big suv it almost feels intimidating

and i'm really not getting that sense at

all it almost feels like a small

agile responsive car which i really like

it's pretty quiet too which is good

there is sound insulation strategically

placed in areas where noise can creep

into the cabin

the windscreen also has acoustic glass

and get this

the door mirrors have been moved down

and back a couple of inches to

apparently create less noise from the

wind how clever is that

as for engines mercedes have gone for

clever there too

all of them are electrified in some way

there are two petrols with mild hybrid

tech and two with plug-in hybrid tech

all offering different power levels

there's also a basic diesel mild hybrid

and a diesel plug-in hybrid the most

attractive might be the glc 400 e petrol

plug-in hybrid which does not 62 in 5.6

has an ev range of up to 74 miles and a

best-case economy of 282 miles per

now the new model has a slightly longer

wheelbase so there is more space in the

back it certainly feels like there's

more head and legroom

and quite a lot of wiggle room like i

reckon you could get two baby seats in

the back here and still have space for a

third in the middle

you've got two usb ports independent

vents you have an armrest in the middle

with the all-important

tablet holder good size pockets and the

doors and again just some nice aesthetic

touches

i really like it in the back too

an electric tailgate is standard and the

boot itself is now bigger by 70 liters

giving a total of 620 liters although

the plug-in hybrid does lose a bit of

space because of the battery there's a

fair amount of underfloor storage big

enough for the parcel shelf and you can

fold the seats flat by pulling these

handy buttons but folding them back has

to be done by hand sadly

now i told you that i would explain why

this car is so good at getting the

optimum driving position and it's

because of this so head to your home

screen and hit comfort

you've got lots of seat options but if

you press position c automatically you

can actually set your height

start positioning

cue lift music

look the seat goes the steering wheel

moves

into the perfect position for your

height

not only that but while we're here

head to ambient light look at all these

different options for the ambient light

around the car so you've got ocean blue

miami rose malibu sunset

that's the one for me

and also glc have lots of other nice

touches including

it turns out that this car can actually

do what it's meant to do it can go

off-road so it has all of the gadgets

that you need including this very cool

feature you press the camera button and

you have a transparent bonnet which

means that when you're on the go you can

actually see what's underneath you

it's not a big leap in terms of how it

looks on the outside from the old model

but inside it is really special and this

is a very nice car to drive

it's more comfortable than the model y

i think that when the bmw x3 comes out

that potentially could give it a run for

its money

but honestly mercedes are going to sell

a lot of these cars and deservedly so
