[0]
hey there thanks for clicking on this
[1]
video if you're watching this right now
[2]
there's a chance that you either might
[4]
want to quit your day job
[5]
or you might be in the rough
[6]
circumstances where you've been
[8]
fired or you might have been laid off
[10]
and i've been there before myself
[11]
this video is going to help you sort out
[13]
your money your priorities and your
[15]
future if you
[16]
find yourself leaving your nine-to-five
[18]
job for any reason
[20]
and this is going to be my honest no bs
[22]
advice that i wish somebody had given to
[23]
me
[24]
the first thing you want to do is make a
[26]
plan to quit your job
[27]
or for if you are forced to leave your
[30]
job because
[31]
a long enough timeline this is probably
[33]
going to happen
[34]
one of the first things you should do in
[36]
making that plan for exiting your job
[38]
is to look at what happens to your
[40]
health care coverage
[42]
need to know what's going to happen to
[44]
your healthcare insurance
[45]
you need to have a plan for that now if
[47]
you're under the age of 30 and in good
[49]
health you might actually
[50]
qualify for a catastrophic coverage plan
[53]
you want to do your research you want to
[55]
look into this
[56]
but other than that you really want to
[57]
just see what happens at least the next
[60]
30 to 90 days
[61]
when you leave your job and what happens
[63]
to those benefits
[64]
the next thing you're going to want to
[65]
do when you're leaving your 9 to 5 job
[67]
is you want to immediately
[68]
be able to replace that income so the
[70]
thing is i wouldn't wait
[72]
until you quit or until you're fired to
[74]
start
[75]
replacing that income so you're not
[76]
reduced down to a zero
[78]
income you want to be able to start
[80]
making money right away
[82]
hint don't think that you're going to
[83]
start a youtube channel or start a
[85]
business and make money right away
[87]
it usually is not something that makes
[89]
money in the first
[90]
90 days many people do it at a loss for
[93]
years
[93]
so let's think of a real plan for you to
[95]
immediately start making money before
[97]
you even leave your day job
[99]
what you're going to want to do is
[100]
you're going to want to start with
[101]
freelancing just like i did
[103]
or with gig work with one of these apps
[106]
you're going to want to go ahead and
[107]
start
[108]
making as much spare money as you can
[111]
every single day so you can have money
[114]
saved
[114]
so you can pay down any debt or you can
[116]
deal with some of the immediate stresses
[118]
in your life
[119]
knowing that you have another source of
[122]
income
[123]
so if anything happens to that
[124]
quote-unquote good steady
[126]
paying job that everyone talks about if
[128]
something were to happen to that
[129]
you want to know that you're not reduced
[131]
to nothing and that you have the ability
[133]
to take care of some of your immediate
[135]
needs
[136]
now if you become a freelancer you may
[138]
be able as a freelancer or a gig worker
[140]
to join a freelancer's union
[142]
now granted there's a lot of things
[144]
going on so do your research this may
[146]
have changed in terms of your ability to
[148]
qualify for that
[149]
but this might be another way for you to
[151]
get health care coverage
[152]
if you're going to be on your own and
[154]
independent for any period of time
[156]
now before you quit your job make sure
[158]
that you're getting
[159]
everything you can out of your job or
[161]
even before you might be let go or fired
[163]
or laid off if you have a heads up about
[164]
that or if you suspect that's something
[166]
that could happen
[167]
you want to get every single one of the
[170]
benefits that your job offers
[171]
so this might include certifications
[174]
they may offer some assistance with
[175]
going back to school or getting training
[177]
don't put these things off
[179]
go ahead and give up your spare time and
[180]
do the extra work
[182]
get the certifications or any of the
[184]
training or assistance they offer maybe
[186]
they offer some vocational training or
[187]
community college classes for you
[190]
to be able to do go ahead and make sure
[192]
you're doing that if they offer
[193]
any other type of incentives make sure
[196]
that you're getting
[196]
full advantage of those while you still
[198]
have the job
[199]
if they offer any kind of industry
[201]
certifications that would be
[203]
transferable or applied to something
[204]
else make sure you're getting that
[206]
speaking of benefits you'll also want to
[208]
look into your 401k
[210]
if that's something that you've been
[211]
investing in hopefully you have
[213]
and something hopefully that your
[215]
employer offers and matches on
[217]
want to know what would happen to the
[219]
money that's been put into your 401k
[221]
if you should leave the job or if you're
[223]
terminated so before you quit
[225]
or should you be fired you need to know
[227]
what happens to that money that's been
[229]
set aside for your retirement
[230]
i would also look into before you quit
[233]
setting up your own
[234]
solo 401k you want to obviously talk to
[236]
a financial advisor
[238]
or a cpa possibly you might actually
[240]
have this
[241]
free for your bank you may be able to
[243]
talk to a financial advisor
[245]
through your bank at no cost so this is
[247]
something that you'll want to research
[248]
and look into
[249]
before you leave your job you'll want to
[251]
make sure that you're getting as many
[252]
references and recommendations as you
[254]
can and ideally you'll want to
[256]
get some of these on your linkedin
[258]
profile and you want to start
[260]
tuning that up i have a video that you
[262]
can watch i'm going to link an info card
[264]
in the description down below
[265]
if you actually want to optimize your
[268]
linkedin profile
[269]
and kind of put yourself out there build
[271]
your personal brand get your resume
[273]
fine-tuned
[274]
this is going to be important in terms
[275]
of looking for new opportunities
[277]
you might be leaving your 9 to 5 job to
[279]
go and to start
[280]
a better career or a different career
[283]
move to
[284]
a competitor or to a better overall
[287]
position
[288]
and even if you're looking to start your
[289]
own business venture this actually will
[291]
be good when people look you up when
[292]
they google search you
[294]
and this might help you with prospecting
[296]
clients just to see that you're reliable
[298]
and that you have referrals and
[299]
recommendations from other people
[301]
in your previous career so don't
[304]
overlook this it's very important
[306]
to make sure that you're doing this and
[307]
if at all possible when you leave your
[310]
job
[310]
try not to burn bridges if it's at all
[313]
possible
[314]
and leave in the most professional and
[316]
dignified manner
[317]
that you can this is not always an
[319]
option for people
[320]
heck it wasn't even always an option for
[322]
me uh sometimes you have what they call
[326]
irreconcilable differences so just
[329]
be as professional as you can be as
[331]
cordial as you can
[332]
even if other people involved are being
[335]
unprofessional
[336]
then don't let that dictate your
[338]
standards or your reputation
[341]
never want to be in a position where you
[343]
can't look back at your previous career
[345]
with some pride and also
[347]
where you don't have anyone you can turn
[348]
to for a reference
[350]
to your work and to your character so
[353]
this is something you want to keep in
[354]
mind
[355]
now here's a little bit of tough love
[357]
and this is why it's called
[358]
no bs advice don't assume that you're
[361]
going to leave your 9 to 5 job
[363]
and that you're also going to be a good
[365]
entrepreneur
[366]
or that you're going to be able to do
[368]
something on your own like start a
[370]
youtube channel
[371]
and be wildly successful this is
[373]
something that is extremely difficult
[375]
and
[375]
you already have the mindset employee it
[378]
takes a long time to develop
[380]
the mindset of a self-directed
[382]
self-discipline entrepreneur
[383]
when you leave your nine-to-five job you
[385]
need to do things like stay on a
[386]
schedule just like if you were still at
[388]
work
[388]
you have to be consistent and too often
[391]
people leave their 9 to 5 job and
[392]
immediately form
[394]
bad habits so you need to stay
[397]
disciplined
[397]
and you need to go ahead and hold
[399]
yourself accountable but if you are
[401]
going to become an entrepreneur
[403]
you need to realize that it's going to
[404]
take discipline consistency and patience
[407]
and that there's a very good chance that
[408]
you're not going to be able to replace
[410]
that
[410]
income in 30 60 or 90 days
[414]
through an entrepreneurial venture
[416]
that's being
[417]
impatient and wanting to just like have
[419]
absolute freedom
[421]
in a way that you haven't been prepared
[423]
for what i would recommend
[425]
is looking at this as an opportunity to
[427]
hit the reset button
[429]
there's a chance that your previous job
[431]
you weren't in a position
[432]
where you had a lot of experience or
[434]
leverage to negotiate
[436]
a fair or a good salary to begin with
[439]
this may be an opportunity to move
[441]
up in the world and get another job in
[443]
your industry
[444]
but at a better salary now you have
[446]
experience and now that you've worked
[447]
for somebody else and you have
[449]
references
[450]
so this is a new opportunity to move up
[453]
and to take your time and maybe you
[455]
might be in a better position
[457]
to become an entrepreneur while you're
[459]
doing this because now you have a little
[460]
bit more breathing room if you're making
[462]
more money
[464]
the other thing i recommend is like i
[466]
said before you even quit
[467]
have a side hustle if you're making good
[469]
money from your side hustle
[470]
and getting close to the point where it
[472]
can replace your income i would take a
[474]
nine to five job instead of going all
[476]
in on your side hustle or your side
[479]
business if it's actually a business
[481]
i would say make sure that you have some
[483]
kind of stable steady income
[485]
make sure that you're doing gig work
[486]
whenever you don't have the ability for
[488]
your main
[489]
side hustle to you know be lucrative
[492]
sometimes you'll have a bad week a bad
[493]
month there will be clients or there
[495]
will
[496]
be money coming in you want to make sure
[498]
that you always have
[499]
some kind of cash flow because having
[502]
anxiety
[503]
about money is just going to you
[506]
emotionally
[506]
and you're not going to be productive at
[508]
anything if that happens
[510]
i know this is probably not what you
[511]
want to hear especially if you're
[512]
quitting your 9 to 5 job you don't want
[514]
to hear
[515]
get a part-time job or get another job
[517]
that you like a little bit better
[518]
you'd love to probably be an
[520]
entrepreneur but it's very hard to do
[522]
and you should take it
[524]
one step at a time and you should be
[525]
preparing along the way
[528]
and you do that in my opinion by
[530]
diversifying your
[532]
income first and building
[533]
entrepreneurial habits
[535]
because it's hard to break the habits of
[537]
being an employee
[538]
now the way that you're going to start
[540]
to build toward potentially being an
[541]
entrepreneur
[542]
is you're going to need to focus on your
[544]
personal and professional development
[546]
now there are going to be people that
[548]
say that giving up your hobbies and your
[550]
leisure to
[552]
work all the time and to do side hustles
[554]
and gig
[555]
work and to pursue your business and not
[557]
do
[558]
anything else in your free time giving
[559]
up netflix giving up video games giving
[561]
up hanging out with friends there are
[562]
people who are gonna say that that's
[563]
part of the
[564]
toxic hustle culture but you'll also
[567]
find that a lot of those people
[568]
probably never legitimately struggled
[571]
because if they did
[572]
they would know that not everyone has
[574]
the luxury and the privilege
[576]
of work-life balance when they're in a
[578]
difficult financial situation
[580]
or when they're trying to dig themselves
[582]
out of the hole ultimately
[584]
what i tend to believe and what was true
[586]
for me when i was at my worst in the
[588]
last recession
[589]
is that a season of hustle is better
[593]
than a lifetime of hardship
[594]
i want you to repeat that after me a
[596]
season of hustle
[598]
beats a lifetime of hardship working
[600]
hard now
[601]
reaping the benefits later and knowing
[604]
that it was
[605]
worth it i'm not saying it's going to be
[606]
easy i'm saying it's going to be worth
[608]
it
[609]
that is important because at the end of
[612]
the day you have a lot of people
[614]
that think that they can have it all at
[616]
once
[617]
and you can't that's arrogant you have
[620]
to be willing to make sacrifices but
[622]
it's your responsibility
[623]
to make sure that your sacrifices are
[626]
worth it
[627]
and that you're not making them
[629]
unnecessarily and in vain
[631]
that's why having a plan for everything
[634]
is so very important
[635]
and needs to be a practical plan that is
[638]
based in reality
[639]
and something attainable not get rich
[641]
quick schemes and not
[643]
you know delusions of grandeur it needs
[646]
to be something
[647]
that is very practical and very fiscally
[650]
conservative
[650]
what i would recommend is in your free
[652]
time when you want to do something
[654]
that's not work that it should still
[656]
benefit you in the long term i recommend
[659]
having
[660]
a robust fitness routine so you can
[662]
build your stamina and strength building
[664]
a better body
[665]
is going to be beneficial to you no
[667]
matter what happens in life
[668]
and being able to take care of your body
[670]
and preserve your health and your youth
[672]
and your strength for as long as
[673]
possible
[674]
should be one of your number one
[675]
priorities anyway and when you're not
[678]
doing that because you can only do so
[679]
much of that
[680]
and maintain i recommend reading books
[683]
that are helpful
[684]
even reading books for leisure is fine
[686]
they'll always have to be business or
[688]
personal development books
[689]
i have a few recommendations here i'll
[691]
link those down below for you as well
[693]
you can also get a free trial of audible
[695]
and get two free audiobooks
[696]
but i think that reading in your spare
[699]
time is going to help you
[701]
with uh you know taking your mind off of
[703]
things
[704]
it's also going to give you ideas and
[706]
keep you motivated
[707]
and it's also going to help you develop
[709]
more discipline
[711]
in terms of your mind and eliminating
[713]
distractions and just being able to
[715]
focus a lot
[716]
better if you do things like watch
[718]
netflix or play video games
[719]
you're giving your body cheap dopamine
[722]
you're making it
[723]
easy to get distracted and harder to
[725]
focus over a period of time
[726]
those things are fun and i like to do
[728]
them but when i was struggling
[730]
financially i knew that they couldn't be
[732]
a priority
[733]
and i knew that they weren't going to
[734]
help me long term
[736]
they were just going to make me feel
[737]
better and comforted in the short term
[739]
at the expense of working toward my
[742]
future one of the most important things
[744]
you can do when you quit your
[745]
nine-to-five job or if you're just in
[746]
any financially difficult situation
[748]
is to figure out exactly how much money
[751]
you need and start tracking your
[752]
expenses
[753]
i recommend using the mint app it's
[755]
totally free go to mint.com
[757]
you could also use truebill you'd be
[759]
surprised sometimes how many little
[760]
expenses or subscriptions you have
[762]
and so being able to track those cancel
[765]
things
[766]
negotiate reduced rates those things can
[768]
actually help you
[769]
and also i recommend making a direct
[772]
plan to start saving
[774]
saving money is something that's going
[775]
to be very important especially before
[777]
you quit your job
[778]
so that you have some breathing room and
[780]
so that you have a little bit of runway
[783]
to figure things out you know most
[785]
americans 60
[786]
of americans don't have a thousand
[787]
dollars in savings you could beat that
[789]
number
[790]
by just saving as little as three
[792]
dollars a day 365 days a year it adds up
[794]
to over a thousand dollars
[795]
if you get to a point where your side
[797]
hustles where you can put some of that
[798]
money away
[799]
if you could put away thirty dollars
[801]
every single day from a side hustle even
[803]
when you have a nine to five job
[805]
you would be in a position to save ten
[807]
thousand dollars in a year
[809]
and for many of you that could be life
[810]
changing that could help you begin to
[812]
get toward
[813]
the down payment on a house it could
[814]
help you get out of debt it can help you
[816]
have that emergency fund that you really
[818]
need
[818]
or it can help you address some of the
[820]
issues in your current lifestyle
[822]
that are leaving you just feeling um
[825]
completely deprived
[826]
so i i really think that saving money
[829]
and earning more money are two of the
[832]
biggest priorities you can do and i
[833]
don't think you should wait till you
[834]
quit your job and i don't think you
[835]
should wait until you're fired i think
[837]
you should do it right now
[838]
if you're already having financial
[840]
hardship research resources that might
[843]
be available to you be surprised
[845]
go to your local small business center
[847]
go to your local community college and
[849]
see
[849]
what they're offering there might be
[851]
free vocational training available
[853]
there might be free grant programs
[855]
available there might be free assistance
[857]
for people
[858]
that qualify into certain situations
[861]
you'd be surprised how much is there for
[863]
you
[863]
in your own local community if you just
[866]
go
[866]
and do the research and if you just are
[869]
someone who has the humility to ask for
[871]
help when they really need it
[872]
and not let it get to a point where
[874]
you're in a desperate situation
[876]
and i wish that when i was going through
[878]
most difficult times in my life that had
[880]
more humility and just asked for help
[883]
and taken advantage of resources that
[885]
were there for me
[886]
instead of wholeheartedly trying to
[888]
think that i could do
[889]
everything myself relying on one source
[892]
of income
[893]
will become a constant point of anxiety
[896]
i want you to not wait
[898]
until you quit or until you're fired
[900]
start the beginnings of building
[902]
multiple streams with income by starting
[903]
a side hustle or doing gig
[905]
work look into ways that you can take
[908]
advantage of your time and then start
[910]
learning to build things you don't
[912]
always have to work
[913]
for a living you could build for a
[914]
living you could build things that
[916]
create
[916]
value and that pay you more than one
[919]
time
[920]
and this is something i talk about
[921]
frequently on the channel when i talk
[922]
about automated income
[924]
what a lot of people refer to as passive
[926]
income i know people think it's a
[927]
buzzword
[928]
i like automated income because i think
[930]
it's more accurate and more honest to
[932]
what we're talking about
[933]
we're talking about building things
[935]
where people put money in
[937]
and get the value they want out and
[938]
you've automated a transaction
[940]
so that you don't have to keep doing
[942]
active work once you've set this
[944]
up by creating the value this can be
[946]
anything from designs
[948]
templates t-shirts even doing something
[950]
like a youtube channel i talk about this
[952]
all the time
