it's dr amanda with straight smile solutions聽 street smile solutions.com and today we're聽聽
[3]
going to talk about essex retainers聽 in-house assist retainers i have so聽聽
[8]
much content on essex vivera's retainers matter聽 of fact it has its own playlist that's located on聽聽
[14]
my page of my youtube and all our 4 000 plus聽 education videos are totally free at this moment聽聽
[20]
i say that because they may not be someday聽 um but at the moment they are so enjoy them聽聽
[26]
and if you want to make essex retainers um a聽 lot of people asking what material should you聽聽
[32]
make it from and remember essex retainers is聽 a category it's a brand essex is owned by um聽聽
[40]
dentsply i believe it used to be owned by聽 crayon i can't even remember they they've聽聽
[45]
been bought out so many times raintree i聽 think it was there was all different ones聽聽
[50]
but um they are now owned by dentsply they聽 own essex it is one brand of clear retainer聽聽
[58]
material slash clear aligner material depending聽 on the thickness and the biomaterials of how it's聽聽
[64]
made whether it's a last american nature聽 but a traditional essex retainer in-house聽聽
[70]
or or even if you're purchasing it from a lab聽 is usually o4o now o4o is in inches i believe聽聽
[77]
that equals one millimeter in the wonderful聽 metric system which of course makes more sense聽聽
[82]
that would be your traditional material someone聽 asked me today about oh about um half millimeter聽聽
[89]
which would be o2o which no that's more like聽 a bleaching tray material and i believe a聽聽
[95]
liner material is usually o30035 so a retainer is聽 normally thicker within that subcategory there's聽聽
[103]
all different types of essex you got s6 s60 plus聽 s6a plus so certain ones are better for bruxer聽聽
[108]
certain ones are more clear certain ones are聽 better for a liner so i have other videos on that聽聽
[114]
to access all my other asics materials videos聽 or pontif videos for retainers you can go to聽聽
[121]
my youtube site to get there go to yours put in聽 the search bar street smile solutions they'll take聽聽
[126]
you to mine which has a green banner um scroll聽 down there's about 10 to 12 playlists on the聽聽
[132]
home page i believe retainers is more towards the聽 bottom which is fitting because it's at the end聽聽
[137]
of treatment but from there you聽 can watch all the videos i have on聽聽
[141]
everything retainers and hopefully it's helpful聽 but yeah nothing wrong with doing in-house essex聽聽
[145]
but but but you need to have the proper equipment聽 if you are half-assing it and using vacuformers聽聽
[151]
instead of pressure formers like the biostar or聽 the mini star it will not be as adapted as well聽聽
[158]
and um the mini star in the biostar is kind of聽 expensive so a lot of people don't have that they聽聽
[163]
just have the traditional vacuum former i would聽 never ever use that i'm not saying i haven't used聽聽
[168]
it because we've all made that mistake you know聽 when we first started out but in hindsight now i聽聽
[173]
would never never never use it because it's just聽 not as well adapted and now that i have kind of聽聽
[179]
these eyes where i see things you know 10 20 30聽 years down the road i can see how regular essex聽聽
[186]
that's not made on a proper biostar or mini star聽 won't adapt as well and it won't keep the teeth聽聽
[191]
as straight now as a patient you're not going to聽 know what it was made on because you don't have聽聽
[194]
access to their lab so i think a good question聽 for you to ask if you are a patient listening to聽聽
[198]
this video is to ask your doctor if you're going聽 through braces treatment or invisalign treatment聽聽
[202]
good question first of all i'd ask what's included聽 with my treatment do you include retainers with my聽聽
[207]
treatment if they most orthodontists are pretty聽 upfront you know this is what's included records聽聽
[212]
this final records retainers one set retainers聽 more than one set retainers holley retainers聽聽
[217]
essex retainers by their retainers what's聽 included how many retainers am i gonna need聽聽
[221]
for a lifetime you're gonna need way more than聽 one set for a lifetime so what's going to be聽聽
[226]
the cost if i need to replace them personally my聽 suggestion is get a couple sets up front because聽聽
[231]
when it's time they need to replace them it's more聽 of an emergency and it's better to have a backup聽聽
[235]
set sitting around and i would switch it out after聽 a year or two you know make it be nice and firm聽聽
[240]
that's why invisalign vivera comes in sets of four聽 that makes sense to me and it's a very affordable聽聽
[245]
uh product it's okay if your doctor is doing聽 in-house essex but my question is are they made聽聽
[251]
professionally you're not gonna know by looking聽 at it so you could definitely ask and you could聽聽
[256]
ask if you could see their lab there's nothing聽 wrong with that you can ask if they're using聽聽
[260]
biostar or mini star the trim is a little less聽 important than what it's made and how it's made聽聽
[266]
but i've seen all kinds of junky retainers that聽 are made in-house and a patient wouldn't know聽聽
[270]
right so why spend two years or a year or two聽 investing your time and money into straightening聽聽
[276]
your teeth if the retainers are going to be made聽 cheaply and sub-par right so my suggestion is聽聽
[281]
that patients ask for viveira retainers by name聽 just because the quality is really good you know聽聽
[287]
it's going to be made right you know the quality聽 is done right you know it's going to fit right聽聽
[291]
so especially if you're using a scan to do it just聽 ask for that by name if the doctor says no i don't聽聽
[296]
do viveira then say well can i get them how much聽 is it going to cost me because for me even if i聽聽
[300]
had to pay an extra 200 or 300 at least i know i'm聽 getting a good quality product in a set of four聽聽
[306]
for uppers four lowers which should last me should聽 last me for a lifetime as long as i'm not losing聽聽
[310]
them so it's definitely worth a couple hundred聽 dollar investment for me all right thanks so much
