how americans spent that money from the

three stimulus checks

now here's a chart that they shared with

us for the first stimulus check almost

75 percent used or

planned to use their stimulus payments

for household expenses

this was in april 2020 when the

unemployment rate was 14.7 percent

and everyone had no idea where the

pandemic was headed

now things changed with the second and

the third stimulus checks

for example approximately 20 percent

spent or planned to spend their stimulus

checks on essential expenses
[106]
such as food and housing americans

instead chose to use their economic

impact payments to save for retirement

or pay off debt

now at first glance at this data many

lawmakers may argue that people

don't need any more stimulus checks but

you also have to look at the numbers

from a holistic perspective

around 20 of people still need help

paying for their household expenses

from the total population of the united

states that's still more than

65 million americans still in need of

immediate assistance

and to add to that half of the

population also need help paying off

their debt now overall i see that this

data shows just how

much more stimulus is actually needed

and just a quote from the latest letter

to president biden regarding recurring

stimulus checks

a fourth and even fifth stimulus check

could keep an additional 12

million out of poverty combined with the

effects of the american rescue plan

direct payments could reduce the number

in poverty in 2021

from 44 million to 16 million people

need help so it's about time that

congress woke up about it now connected

to this

a major push right now is the resolution

to end poverty

from representatives jayapal as well as

barbara lee

now aside from cash assistance programs

aka stimulus checks the resolution also

proposes to

boost or increase the minimum wage

they're pushing for expanded

unemployment insurance

cancelling all unpayable debt affordable

and public housing

as well as free education now all this

money will come from the redirected

military spending

and imprisonment spending not to mention

fair taxation and deficit spending

now this major push is being supported

by a network across 45 states

that includes over 2 000 faith leaders

and 300 partner organizations

now this is definitely an interesting

group because aside from pushing this

resolution

they're also calling the third

reconstruction they're also planning a

national poor people's and low-wage

workers assembly on june 21st that will

kick off

a 365-day national campaign and will
[224]
ultimately be leading to a
[226]
mass poor people and low wage workers

assembly

and moral march on washington in june
[231]
2022.

guys a lot of exciting developments to

watch out for from this

and then there's the very

straightforward automatic boost to

communities act

also known as the abc act from

representatives rashida to leave as well

jayapal now the abc act it aims to cut

every single american

a two thousand dollar fourth stimulus

check plus one thousand dollar

monthly stimulus checks for a whole year

after the pandemic now adding to those

numbers are some key players in congress

and top experts you've got seven members

of the influential

house ways and means committee you've

got 55 democrats from the house of

representatives plus

21 democratic senators and 156

top economists and let's not forget

about the voices

of the 2.2 million people who've signed

onto the

change.org petition for the two thousand

dollar monthly stimulus checks and the

latest poll shows

65 of americans supporting recurring

cash payments for the duration of the

pandemic

now this includes support from 54

percent of republicans

and 60 of independents so let's not give

president biden wants tax hikes which is

definitely a red line in the sand for

republicans

deadline for progress

according to white house officials now

that's coming from white house press

secretary jenn saki's latest press

and senate majority leader chuck schumer

also told his caucus

that democrats would write an

infrastructure bill with

or without republican support when they

returned to washington this month

he aims to pass legislation this summer

saying that this may be past the summer

president biden specifically said that

he wants to sign this bill before

these deadlines come up on them and as

that we can expect in the fourth

there's more stimulus for broadband like

to 900 broadband benefits that we have

now we've got a sizeable minimum wage

transportation and jobs training now

more interesting is the american

families package

that would expand and also extend all

sorts of benefits

like the three thousand dollar child tax

credit the health insurance tax credit

the 1500 earned income tax credit

could also get money during the second
