[0]
just this past week the Centers for
[2]
Medicaid and Medicare services part of
[4]
the federal government so the half
[5]
million Americans had signed up for
[7]
insurance under Obamacare during the
[9]
last special enrollment period that's a
[11]
huge spike for people newly signing up
[13]
for health insurance under Obamacare and
[15]
that's of course the result of millions
[17]
of Americans losing their employer
[19]
linked health and covered health
[20]
coverage because of everybody getting
[22]
laid off in furloughed because of the
[24]
pandemic at the exact same time that
[26]
we're seeing this massive demand for
[28]
coverage under Obamacare the Trump
[30]
administration and Republican governors
[32]
all across the country have literally
[34]
been petitioning the Supreme Court to
[37]
kill the whole law right it's happening
[39]
in tandem on the exact same day we
[41]
learned about those half-million recent
[43]
signups for Obamacare where people are
[45]
trying to get health insurance that way
[47]
because they can't get it through their
[48]
employer anymore because look what's
[50]
happened to employment in this country
[51]
on that same day we got that statistic
[53]
the Trump administration asked the
[55]
Supreme Court to kill the Affordable
[57]
Care Act altogether siding with 18
[60]
republican-led states arguing that Obama
[63]
care should be struck down in its
[64]
entirety the brief filed by the Trump
[67]
administration explicitly spells out
[69]
that they really definitely specifically
[73]
want to kill the part of Obamacare that
[75]
says you have to be given health
[77]
insurance coverage by a health insurance
[79]
provider even if you have a pre-existing
[80]
condition they explicitly spell out in
[84]
the brief but they want people to no
[86]
longer be guaranteed coverage if they've
[87]
got pre-existing conditions then what
[90]
the whole thing thrown out including
[91]
specifically that but like dig into that
[95]
a little bit right we want to really
[97]
make sure that this thing is gonna rip
[99]
away coverage from people who are
[100]
already struggling with things like
[101]
cancer or some other precondition right
[103]
the news would be eyebrow-raising even
[107]
in good times but right now we are
[108]
living in the middle of a pandemic that
[110]
has already claimed the lives of close
[111]
to a hundred and thirty thousand
[113]
Americans and how many Americans have
[116]
been infected with this thing I mean
[119]
people who got sick with coronavirus a
[122]
lot of them faced the grim reality that
[125]
they might be left with health problems
[126]
from kovat that affect them for the rest
[129]
of their lives karana virus infections
[132]
are poised to become the
[133]
preexisting condition right and if the
[136]
Trump administration has its way
[138]
pre-existing conditions will be used to
[141]
deny you health insurance coverage this
[144]
is a point that the Democratic nominee
[146]
for president Vice President Joe Biden
[147]
has been trying to hammer home if Donald
[152]
Trump has his way those who have
[155]
complications from Cova 19 could become
[157]
the new pre-existing conditions some
[160]
survivors will experience lasting health
[162]
impacts like lung scarring and heart
[164]
damage and if Donald Trump prevails in
[167]
court insurers would be allowed once
[170]
again to strip away coverage jack up
[173]
premiums simply because of the battle
[176]
they survived deep fighting coronavirus
[180]
those survivors having struggle and when
[183]
their fight of their lives would have
[186]
their peace of mind stolen at that
[189]
moment they needed at most they would
[193]
live they would live their lives caught
[195]
in a vise between Donald Trump's twin
[198]
legacies his failure to protect the
[201]
American people from the coronavirus and
[204]
his heartless crusade to take health
[206]
care protections away from American
[208]
families this isn't just political
[214]
competition between Joe Biden and Donald
[217]
Trump I mean this is this is the reality
[219]
that we're living through that is
[220]
growing every day by now 50,000 new
[223]
cases a day and here's the New York
[225]
Times just late this afternoon hundreds
[227]
of thousands of seriously ill
[228]
coronavirus patients who survived and
[230]
leave the hospital are facing a new and
[232]
difficult challenge recovery many are
[234]
struggling to overcome a range of
[236]
troubling residual symptoms and some
[238]
problems that may persist for months
[239]
years or even the rest of their lives
[242]
you think about the number of Americans
[244]
who already have pre-existing conditions
[246]
of some kind right Obamacare was the way
[248]
that we made sure that Americans with
[252]
pre-existing conditions of any kind
[254]
could still get health insurance in this
[256]
country if you think about the number of
[259]
Americans who are ultimately going to
[261]
get infected with kovat 19 and survive
[266]
it
[267]
it's just staggering right I mean so far
[269]
more than two and a half million
[271]
Americans are already confirmed covet 19
[274]
infections according to the CDC's c2c
[278]
directors recent testimony to Congress
[280]
the real number of Americans who've been
[282]
infected with this thing is probably
[283]
more like 20 million Americans but those
[286]
numbers are going up right now
[287]
explosively we're going we've gone from
[290]
20 25 30 35 40 45 now 50,000 cases a day
[295]
in the blink of an eye if we do get to
[297]
the point where we're up to a hundred
[299]
thousand new infections a day like dr.
[301]
Fauci suggested yesterday to Congress
[302]
that means we'll have another million
[305]
Americans infected every 10 days and
[308]
that means potentially we're talking
[311]
about tens of millions of Americans who
[313]
won't be able to get health insurance
[314]
not now not ever because the Trump
[317]
administration and Republican governors
[318]
right now in the middle of this thing
[320]
are trying to take away the law that
[323]
says you have to get health insurance
[324]
coverage regardless of your pre-existing
[326]
conditions I mean Americans have tons of
[330]
those already but literally tens of
[333]
millions of us may have no pre-existing
[335]
conditions thanks to the other
[337]
catastrophic almost existential failure
[340]
of this administration which is an
[341]
absolutely out of control explosively
[344]
growing coronavirus pandemic that is
[346]
infecting 50 thousand of us a day now
[351]
good planning
[352]
you guys good planning I mean even
[354]
Oklahoma voters are giving you the
[356]
appropriate one finger salute on this
[359]
one
