How to Get More Email Subscribers (17 Lead Magnet Ideas) - YouTube
Channel: Pat Flynn
[0]
- So you wanna learn how to
get more email subscribers.
[2]
Well, one of the best ways to do it
[3]
is by offering something, a lead magnet
[5]
in exchange for that email address.
[7]
Now, hopefully you're not just saying,
[9]
hey guys, subscribe to my newsletter
[10]
because basically you're just saying,
[12]
hey guys, I'm gonna give you more emails.
[13]
People don't want more emails.
[16]
People want something in exchange
[17]
for getting on that email list.
[19]
So what can you give them
[20]
in exchange for that email address?
[22]
Well, here are 17 things
that you could offer.
[24]
And by the way, things
have changed overtime.
[26]
Back in the day when I started
building my email list,
[28]
it was to offer the
biggest thing possible.
[30]
The 30 to 50 page ebook or .pdf file
[34]
which is no longer something
that people wanna download.
[37]
People don't wanna spend their time
[38]
reading 30 to 50 pages of something,
[40]
people want the quick hits.
[42]
So I'm gonna give you 17
quick hit lead magnets
[45]
that you could offer
your audience right now.
[46]
Number one, a resource list.
[48]
People love lists of tools and resources
[51]
they can use to gain an advantage
[53]
or do something a lot more conveniently
[55]
by creating simply, a list of these items,
[57]
you're gonna help them out
[59]
and they're gonna wanna get that list.
[60]
So let's say, for example,
you have a photography blog.
[63]
You can create a list of the five tools
[65]
that a photographer should be using
[67]
to edit their files quicker.
[69]
Or to get better lighting in their photos.
[72]
Or a list of five of the cheapest tools
[76]
that you can use to you know,
[78]
travel with your photography items.
[80]
All kinds of lists work,
just create a simple one.
[83]
People are gonna wanna download it.
[84]
Number two, a quick start guide.
[86]
Teaching something that people
are doing in a quick way
[89]
is a quick way to get an email address.
[91]
So if you're that photography
blogger, for example,
[94]
you can offer a quick start guide
[95]
on how to use a particular kind of camera.
[98]
Or a quick start guide to how to use
[100]
Photoshop or InDesigner, whatever it is.
[102]
By offering a quick start guide,
[104]
you're gonna be quick to get those emails.
[106]
Number three, offer a cheat sheet.
[108]
I offer one of these for people
who wanna start a podcast.
[110]
My buddy David Siteman
Garland has one for people
[113]
who wanna start an online course.
[115]
A cheat sheet sounds exactly what it is.
[116]
It's just a one page or two page .pdf file
[118]
that has all the top tips to help a person
[121]
burn through a particular process
[122]
that might take a lot longer.
[124]
Similar to a quick start guide,
[126]
but the cheat sheet phrasing
is really what it is,
[128]
it reminds of the Game Genie
back when I played Nintendo.
[130]
All you have to do is
plug in the Game Genie
[132]
into your console and boom,
[134]
you can walk through a level much faster
[136]
or jump much higher or you know,
[138]
get 99 lives to start out with.
[139]
So just like the Game Genie,
[140]
you're gonna offer your
audience a quick way
[142]
to gain an advantage
using this cheat sheet.
[144]
And they're gonna wanna give
you their email address for it.
[147]
Number four, a video answer to one
[149]
of the most pressing
questions your audience has.
[151]
So for somebody who's
brand new to your website,
[153]
what is likely, their number one question?
[155]
Answer that in a video and
give them access to that video
[157]
after they subscribe to your list.
[159]
Number five, offer a checklist.
[161]
So, if you teach a certain process.
[163]
Let's say, for example, you
teach Facebook marketing,
[165]
there's likely a number of steps
[167]
that a person needs to take to
go from where they're at now
[169]
to a successfully running
campaign on Facebook.
[172]
You could, in exchange
for that email address,
[174]
offer them a checklist of just,
[175]
here are the 20 things that you need to do
[178]
from start to finish to
get where you wanna go.
[181]
So think about a process,
write down all the steps
[183]
and put a nice little
check mark box next to it
[186]
so they can follow along.
[186]
And that's something that's very valuable,
[188]
that can actually help a person too.
[189]
Number six, email scripts.
[191]
If you are at all, teaching anybody
[193]
to send any emails or communications
[195]
to other people by simply
giving them an email script
[197]
that they can copy and paste
and put in their own voice.
[200]
Very highly valuable item that
saves people a lot of time.
[204]
That they're gonna wanna get access to.
[205]
Writing emails is one
of the hardest things
[207]
to do for some people.
[208]
So make it easy for them
and just give it away.
[211]
Give 'em a starting point.
[212]
Number seven, offer a mini-course.
[214]
Now, a mini-course is a training
[216]
that might still live in a platform
[218]
where you know, they go
through modules and lessons
[219]
but it's gonna be very
light and really help them
[221]
with one particular outcome.
[223]
This is a great high value item
[226]
that a person might even want to
[227]
or could potentially even pay for.
[229]
But you're giving it it away for free,
[230]
and as a result, you're essentially
[232]
showing them how much amazing value
[234]
you have to offer and then,
[235]
you can upsell them
into something later on.
[237]
So a good example of this
is from Caleb Wojcik,
[239]
the person behind the camera right now.
[241]
He has a website at DIYvideoguy.com
[244]
and he offers a free mini-course
[246]
on how to use Adobe Premiere
to edit your videos.
[248]
Which then leads people to a higher,
[250]
more premium level course.
[251]
But he's getting email addresses
[253]
as a result of just literally,
[254]
showing them how to do it
in a very high value course.
[257]
Number eight, instead of a mini-course
[259]
that lives on a platform.
[260]
You can offer an email course.
[263]
So you're still teaching,
but you're teaching
[264]
through after people
subscribe to your email list.
[267]
So day one becomes lesson number one.
[269]
Day two becomes lesson number two.
[270]
Day three becomes lesson number three.
[272]
An example of this, is
over at 100emails.com
[275]
where I teach people how to go
[276]
from zero emails to
100 emails in 72 hours.
[280]
It's simply just built into ConvertKit
[282]
which is my email service provider.
[283]
And everyday a person gets a new lesson,
[285]
and by the end, the outcome is
they have 100 emails or more.
[288]
Producing an email course is great
[289]
because it's still high value
[291]
but it also just lives in
your email system, it's great.
[294]
Number nine, if you have a book
[295]
or you're thinking about writing a book,
[296]
you can offer chapter one for free.
[298]
Now, this is really
cool because people love
[300]
to get access to books and
they get a little piece
[302]
of a much larger book
that they know is there.
[304]
But more than that, they get a feel
[305]
of what that book is like.
[306]
So if they actually like that book
[307]
and they wanna go into
chapter two and beyond.
[310]
Well, then they can download
or buy your book from there.
[313]
Number 10, in a similar way,
[314]
if you have an online course,
you can take module one
[317]
of that course or perhaps,
your favorite module.
[319]
Pull it out and make it available
[321]
in exchange for an email
address to see for free.
[323]
It's a great way to show people exactly
[325]
how you teach and what
that course is like,
[326]
and then, they are likely to
upgrade to the full thing.
[329]
Or if they're not ready
for it yet, that's okay.
[331]
At least you have the
opportunity to nurture them
[333]
because you've collected
their email address for sure.
[336]
And because it's a part of a paid product,
[338]
again, you're gonna be able to get
[340]
a lot more email subscribers as a result.
[342]
Because, you know, they wanna,
[343]
they wanna see what it's like.
[344]
Number 11, you can offer
a quiz with results
[347]
that actually help people.
[348]
A good example of this
comes from Michael Hyatt,
[350]
who at the end of each year,
[351]
offers his course Best Year Ever.
[354]
Well, to get people on his email list,
[356]
so then he can pinch them this course,
[357]
which I actually take every single year.
[359]
He offers an assessment.
[361]
A lifescore assessment
that you can go through,
[363]
where you answer a few
questions here and there
[365]
and at the end, it gives
you kind of a score.
[367]
And then, from there he kinda tells you,
[368]
okay, here's the kind of person you are,
[371]
here's kind of what
your struggles might be.
[372]
But here's what you can do
to get out of those struggles
[374]
and where you can go to the next level.
[377]
So, I love that because you're interacting
[379]
and you're also providing value.
[381]
But because it's different
than something you download,
[383]
it's actually something
you participate in.
[384]
You know, you can get quite a few
[385]
email subscribers as a result.
[387]
Number 12, you can offer templates.
[389]
So let's say, for
example, you teach people
[391]
how to do things on YouTube.
[392]
Well, you can offer a template
on you know, thumbnails
[395]
that people can then work off of.
[396]
If you teach podcasting, you can offer
[398]
you know, a Garage Bin file
that people can work off of
[400]
that already has some
bits and pieces in there
[402]
that they can work off of.
[404]
Because you're giving them a headstart,
[405]
they're gonna wanna get access to that.
[406]
You're helping them out, you're
providing a lot of value,
[408]
you can get an email address for it.
[410]
Number 13, you can offer transcriptions.
[412]
So if you do any video or podcasting,
[414]
you can just take the transcriptions,
[416]
the words that you said or recorded,
[418]
put them into a .pdf file.
[420]
That's something that
people will likely exchange
[422]
their email address for.
[423]
James Schramko from SuperFastBusiness
[425]
does transcriptions
that are only available
[427]
through email on his podcast.
[430]
And he tells me that
it grows his email list
[432]
which is great and it is
something that people will want
[434]
because you know, some people
[435]
just don't have the ability
to listen or watch something.
[438]
They wanna read it instead.
[440]
And also, they can work off of that,
[442]
it's a .pdf file, they can print it out,
[443]
and you know, write notes with it too.
[445]
It's pretty valuable.
[446]
Number 14, offer a bonus audio file.
[449]
So, let's say, for example,
[450]
that you have a lot of
written content on your blog.
[452]
You can take some of
that, and actually turn it
[454]
into a audio content, MP3 files
[456]
that people can download and get access to
[457]
after they give you their email address.
[460]
So again, it becomes a different form
[463]
of using the same content,
but still highly valuable
[465]
that people would wanna get access to
[466]
because sometimes, people
just wanna listen on the go.
[468]
They're not able to read all
these things all the time.
[471]
So, super valuable.
[472]
Number 15, a contact list.
[474]
So, your Rolodex, your network.
[476]
You can create, instead of a resource list
[478]
of tools and items, you
can create a resource list
[481]
of people that people who
are on your list should know.
[485]
So by offering your contact list,
[486]
it's almost like a way to get involved
[488]
with the network that you've built.
[490]
Now this works in both ways.
[491]
You're providing a lot of value
[492]
to the subscribers because you know,
[493]
you're showing them who to know,
[495]
but to the people who are on that list,
[496]
you are sending them people
who are your subscribers.
[500]
So you're offering leads or
getting them clients and stuff.
[503]
So you can work that angle too
[504]
and potentially create deals there
[506]
so that it's a win for everybody.
[507]
Number 16, you can offer access
[509]
to an upcoming live training.
[511]
So I know a lot of people who you know,
[513]
every week or every month,
they have a live training
[515]
where they go and they teach something.
[517]
And the exchange for the email is a result
[520]
of just registration or getting a seat,
[521]
or getting access to that webinar.
[524]
So, you might wanna experiment with that.
[526]
Have a date in the future where
you're gonna teach something
[528]
and tell people in your sidebar,
[530]
at the bottom of your
blog post, or wherever.
[532]
Hey, register for this webinar
[534]
and of course, by doing that,
[536]
they're gonna get on your list.
[537]
Number 17, instead of offering
access to a live webinar,
[539]
you can offer access
to a pre-recorded one.
[542]
So a replay to an existing webinar.
[544]
You might wanna actually do
number 16 first, do it live.
[547]
And then have that available
for people to get access to
[549]
afterwards and then, it's automated.
[552]
So there you go guys, 17
different lead magnets
[554]
and incentives you can create
[555]
to get more people on your email list.
[557]
You have no excuse now not to do this.
[560]
And hopefully you can take that email list
[561]
that's just simply asking for emails
[563]
in exchange for more emails
or an exclusive newsletter.
[566]
And actually then give
something of value in exchange.
[569]
Such that a person is more
likely to open your future emails
[573]
because you already
delivered a lot of value.
[575]
Now really quick, three
things before you go.
[577]
Number one, hook me up with a thumbs up
[578]
if you like this video.
[579]
I always love those thumbs up, thank you.
[581]
Number two, make sure you
subscribe to the channel
[583]
if you haven't already, and
click that notification bell
[585]
so you get notified when
new videos come out.
[587]
And then, number three,
I'd love to hear from you.
[589]
Down below, in the comment section,
[591]
what lead magnet of these 17,
[595]
is the one that you
are most excited about?
[597]
Or perhaps, you're already
doing one or more of these.
[599]
Leave a couple numbers down below.
[601]
I'll have a list in
the description for you
[603]
so it's easy to find.
[604]
Let me know which one
of these lead magnets
[606]
is more exciting to you
and then get to work on it
[609]
if you haven't done that already.
[610]
Resources and links to all things
[612]
mentioned in this video are down below.
[615]
Thanks again, please subscribe
[616]
and we'll see you in the next video.
[617]
Team Flynn for the win.
