Channel: Improvement Pill
[0]
one of the most common questions I
[1]
receive is improvement pill I don't know
[3]
what I wanted to do in life how can I
[5]
find my passion and that's a pretty
[7]
important question so in today's video
[8]
I'm gonna show you exactly how to do
[10]
just that
[11]
this episode was brought to you if the

[21]
before we get started I wanted to bunk
[22]
something a lot of us are under the
[24]
assumption that there's only one thing
[25]
out there that can be our passion that
[27]
it's predetermined by birth and that all
[29]
we have to do is find it but that's not
[32]
how it works the truth of the matter is
[33]
that there's probably many many things
[36]
that could potentially be your passion
[38]
in fact it's entirely possible to have
[40]
more than one passion if you take a look
[42]
at a lot of very successful people
[44]
you'll find that this is generally the
[46]
case for example Tim Ferriss is a
[48]
well-known author and speaker but did
[51]
you know that he was also a competitive
[53]
dancer wrestler and investor there's
[56]
only two things you need to do in order
[58]
for you to discover one of your passions
[60]
the first is that you must change where
[62]
you get your dopamine from dopamine is
[64]
the chemical that is released by our
[66]
brain that motivates us to do things
[68]
without it you will literally starve to
[70]
death even if there was food right in
[73]
front of you the release of dopamine is
[75]
also accompanied by pleasure the problem
[77]
nowadays is that dopamine is very easy
[80]
to get it's cheap and it's abundant
[82]
everywhere back in the day we had a do
[84]
stuff in order to get that dopamine and
[86]
most of the time that meant creating
[88]
something you had to build a house you
[90]
had a crate a nice piece of pottery you
[92]
had to go out and tend to your crops
[94]
while you worked on these tasks you were
[96]
flooded with dopamine and you felt good
[98]
about the whole process if you follow
[100]
this route you'd naturally become
[102]
passionate about whatever it is that you
[104]
did but nowadays it's a little bit
[106]
different we can now flood our brain
[107]
with dopamine without having to do much
[109]
at all you can surf the web you can
[111]
binge watch some TV shows you can order
[113]
amazing food to your front door almost
[116]
instantaneously and methods like this
[118]
have become the main sources of dopamine
[120]
for the majority of people now what's
[121]
different about these sources of
[123]
dopamine as compared to the ones we use
[125]
to get it from well these are forms of
[127]
consumption and the ones we used to use
[129]
our forms of creation and this is a very
[132]
important
[132]
distinction in order for something to be
[134]
your passion it must stem from creation
[138]
if you get the majority of your dopamine
[139]
from a form of consumption do you know
[142]
what we call that we call that an
[143]
addiction you're addicted to watching TV
[146]
you're addicted to smoking cigarettes
[148]
you're addicted to eating junk food but
[150]
on the other hand if we get the majority
[152]
of our dopamine from a form of creation
[154]
that's called the passion you're
[156]
passionate about drawing you're
[158]
passionate about dancing you're
[160]
passionate about farming so the first
[162]
and most important thing you have to do
[164]
in order to find your passion is to turn
[166]
back your consumption valve watch less
[168]
TV play less video games eat less junk
[171]
food when you turn back your consumption
[173]
valve you force yourself to start
[175]
looking for dopamine from forms of
[177]
creation this is crucial for our next
[179]
step the second thing you have to do in
[181]
order to find your passion is to simply
[183]
expose yourself to a variety of
[185]
different forms of creation to give
[187]
yourself a chance to get dopamine from
[189]
these sources instead of forms of
[191]
consumption now there's no fancy trick
[193]
to finding these things you just gotta
[195]
approach it the old-fashioned way by
[197]
trying things out so what I suggest you
[199]
to do after successfully completing step
[201]
number one is to search up a list of
[204]
hobbies literally go on google and type
[206]
in list of hobbies Wikipedia look
[209]
through the list and if you see anything
[211]
that seems even remotely interesting or
[214]
fun write it down
[215]
create a list then all you have to do is
[217]
take this list and ask yourself which
[220]
thing would I like to try out first you
[222]
should only try out one of these hobbies
[223]
at a time you must give yourself enough
[225]
time to see whether or not you can make
[227]
this hobby into a passion if you've
[230]
successfully followed our first step
[231]
which is to drastically tone down the
[234]
amount of dopamine you get from forms of
[236]
consumption what happens next
[238]
should be automatic let's say you picked
[240]
photography as something you might be
[242]
interested in if you followed our first
[244]
step correctly you'll naturally do some
[246]
research on photography you'll look up
[248]
some videos you'll start playing around
[249]
with a cheap camera or your phone and
[251]
after a while you'll know whether or not
[253]
you actually liked this hobby all of
[255]
this is fueled by the dopamine that you
[258]
are no longer getting from forms of
[259]
consumption because you are now getting
[261]
it from a form of creation and let's say
[263]
you don't find yourself interested in
[265]
photography all you have
[266]
do is move on to the second thing on
[268]
your list and if that doesn't work out
[270]
either try the third thing and so on and
[272]
so on and if you continue to find
[274]
yourself not interested in anything then
[276]
chances are you're not following the
[278]
first step properly you have to turn
[280]
down the amount of dopamine you get from
[282]
forms of consumption even more now I
[284]
know this sounds overly simplistic but
[286]
finding a passion isn't as hard as
[288]
people make it seem honestly all you
[290]
have to do is tone down the amount of
[292]
dopamine you're getting from sources of
[294]
consumption and allow yourself to
[295]
explore different forms of creation
[297]
speaking of which a great place for you
[299]

[301]
variety of different hobbies is
