How To Create A YouTube Channel! (2020 Beginner鈥檚 Guide) - YouTube

Channel: Justin Brown - Primal Video

[0]
in this video i'm going to walk you
[1]
through how to create a youtube channel
[3]
step by step including the key
[5]
optimization settings
[7]
that most people miss that will help you
[9]
maximize your results
[10]
even if you've already started hey it's
[12]
justin brown here from primal video
[14]
where we help you amplify your business
[16]
and brand with video if you're new here
[18]
make sure you click that subscribe
[19]
button
[20]
and all the links to everything we
[21]
mention in this video you can find
[23]
linked in the description box below
[24]
so let's jump into it now youtube has
[26]
become the second most popular search
[28]
engine
[29]
in the world so it's no wonder that more
[31]
and more people want to get on the
[32]
platform
[33]
and to learn how to make a youtube
[35]
channel of their own so with the right
[37]
process
[37]
and a little optimization of some key
[39]
channel settings
[40]
you can quickly set yourself up and your
[43]
new channel up
[44]
for success ready to maximize your views
[46]
your subscribers and your traffic on
[49]
youtube
[49]
so in this video i'm going to step you
[51]
through how to create a new youtube
[53]
channel along with all the key settings
[54]
that you need
[55]
to maximize your results now i really
[57]
want to make sure that you're paying
[58]
attention here because
[59]
as we go through this i'm going to be
[61]
covering off the top tips that we've
[63]
learned
[63]
to really help you optimize your channel
[65]
and your content so that youtube wants
[67]
to promote it
[68]
now i also want to let you know that
[70]
what we've built out in the description
[71]
below this video
[73]
is essentially a resource or a toolkit
[75]
for helping you set up your channel
[77]
including videos including all of the
[79]
resources the gear the software the
[81]
tools
[81]
the stuff that we use and that we
[83]
recommend but also direct
[85]
links to tutorials that are going to
[87]
help you dive deeper
[88]
in some of the things that we are
[89]
covering relatively fast in this video
[92]
things like your branding and thumbnails
[94]
and channel art
[95]
all of those we have dedicated
[97]
walkthrough tutorials on those specific
[99]
elements
[99]
if you do want to dive deeper on them
[101]
and they're all linked in the
[102]
description below
[103]
so the first thing you need to do is to
[105]
head over to youtube.com and click sign
[108]
in in the top right hand corner
[109]
and you're prompted to log in so if
[111]
you've already got a google account or
[113]
a gmail email address this is where you
[115]
will log in with that if you want to
[117]
associate that with your youtube account
[119]
if you don't have one yet
[120]
then you can just click create account
[122]
down here and create one now before we
[124]
go any further in this tutorial
[126]
there are two types of channels that you
[127]
need to be aware of the first is a
[129]
personal channel and that is
[130]
linked to your personal google or your
[133]
personal gmail account
[134]
and only you can access or only people
[137]
who are logging into that exact account
[139]
with that username and password
[140]
are able to manage that youtube channel
[143]
the other thing to note with a personal
[144]
channel
[145]
is that the youtube channel name is
[147]
going to be restricted
[148]
to your account name which in most cases
[151]
is going to be your own name
[153]
but the second option you have is to
[154]
create your youtube channel instead of
[156]
as a personal channel
[157]
as a brand channel and this is going to
[159]
give you access to things like a custom
[161]
channel name so it doesn't need to just
[163]
be your personal name and you can also
[165]
assign
[165]
other people or other google accounts as
[168]
channel managers
[170]
on your channel so you don't need to be
[171]
giving out your personal google account
[174]
login details to anyone that you want to
[176]
have help out with your channel
[178]
you can actually just grant them access
[180]
with their login details
[181]
to access your channel so you'll need to
[183]
select either a personal channel
[185]
or a brand channel but do note that you
[187]
can switch from a personal channel to a
[189]
brand channel
[190]
at a later date if you'd like to change
[192]
later or if you've maybe already set up
[194]
as a personal you can convert it over to
[196]
a brand channel
[197]
later but what i would recommend and
[198]
what we use is a brand channel so that
[200]
we can have multiple people managing the
[202]
channel
[203]
so once you've signed into youtube using
[204]
your google account you can come up to
[206]
the top right hand corner
[207]
to your little profile picture and if
[210]
you don't have a channel yet this is
[212]
your first time logging in you can click
[214]
here to create a
[215]
channel now if you already have an
[217]
existing channel when you click on this
[218]
you'll be able to access
[219]
your channel but maybe you want to
[221]
create a brand new brand channel so
[223]
that's where you'll have to come down
[224]
here
[224]
to settings then go over to add or
[227]
manage your channels
[228]
and here it will show all the channels
[230]
that you already have access to
[232]
you can create a new channel just by
[233]
hitting the plus button in the top left
[235]
hand corner
[236]
so going back over to our new channel
[238]
setup this is where it's asking us if we
[240]
want to create
[240]
a personal channel using our name or if
[243]
we want to use a custom name which is
[245]
creating a brand
[246]
channel so i'm going to select brand
[248]
channel now this is where you get to
[250]
decide your youtube channel name now it
[252]
could be that you're still opting to use
[254]
your personal name and if you're not
[256]
going to go with your name i would
[257]
suggest to try to keep it on topic
[259]
or somehow related to the content that
[262]
you are going to be adding
[263]
to your channel but do note that it is
[265]
possible to change your channel name
[267]
after you have said it
[268]
so it's not so much of a big deal now we
[270]
have got a video specifically on this
[272]
topic selecting your channel name
[274]
talking you through a couple of
[275]
different processes and a couple of
[277]
different things that you can do to help
[278]
you land on the perfect channel for you
[280]
so again that's going to be in the
[282]
resources below this video
[284]
and i'll also link it up in the cards
[285]
now too let's call this super
[288]
awesome channel i understand i am
[291]
creating a new google account
[293]
with its own settings so if we go create
[295]
it'll go through and do its
[297]
thing and then we get presented with
[298]
this nice work your channel super
[300]
awesome channel has been created
[302]
it's giving us the next step here which
[304]
is to upload a profile picture
[306]
so we're going to upload picture i'm
[307]
going to navigate through and find a
[309]
picture i'll put this one here in
[311]
once you've got your profile picture in
[313]
you can come down and they're asking you
[314]
now
[314]
to tell your viewers about your channel
[316]
so this is your youtube channel
[318]
description
[319]
so what you want to add into this
[320]
section here is a few sentences or
[322]
a short sharp paragraph including who
[325]
you are
[325]
what your channel is about and what
[327]
viewers can expect
[329]
on your channel what's the type of
[330]
content that you're putting out
[332]
now a pro tip here is that you can
[334]
actually optimize this up
[335]
to help your channel rank by adding in
[337]
some keywords and some key phrases
[339]
around the content that you're going to
[341]
cover here so it's important to add some
[343]
of those keywords and key tags
[345]
into the channel description here also
[347]
into the channel tags which we're going
[349]
to get to
[349]
soon and also inside the videos
[352]
themselves
[353]
that is going to give you the best
[355]
chance of getting your videos and your
[357]
channel ranking
[358]
on youtube faster now make sure you
[360]
stick around to the end because i'm
[361]
going to share with you our youtube
[363]
ranking guide
[364]
to help you do this for your videos and
[366]
for your channel
[367]
so here's our channel and our channel
[369]
description to give you an idea
[370]
of the types of things that you can put
[372]
in there we've got a bit of an intro
[373]
welcome to primal video introducing
[375]
myself and mike
[377]
and what we do we're talking about the
[379]
types of videos that we're putting out
[380]
on this channel
[381]
we ask people to subscribe if they think
[383]
that's a fit for them
[384]
and we've also got linked here a
[386]
resource to one of our video editing
[388]
guides but you can see in this
[389]
description we've got a few keywords
[391]
that are related to the content we are
[393]
creating so
[394]
video creation we've also got video
[396]
editing tutorials
[398]
gear reviews video production tips and
[400]
tricks
[401]
video marketing tips youtube ranking
[404]
tutorials
[405]
so this is stuff that will read well for
[406]
a human but also helps youtube
[408]
understand
[409]
what your channel is about as well so
[411]
for the sake of the channel that we are
[413]
creating now i'm going to copy and paste
[415]
this as the description
[416]
for the new one next up you're going to
[419]
add links to
[420]
your sites and to your social media
[421]
profile so we'll add in our website here
[424]
and we can give it a name we can add in
[426]
our facebook
[427]
twitter and instagram and we hit save
[430]
and continue
[431]
okay when that's complete the next thing
[433]
you want to do is to verify
[434]
your channel this is going to unlock
[436]
some extra features and things in here
[437]
so you want to come up again to your
[439]
profile image
[440]
come down to settings down here to
[442]
channel status and
[444]
features you can see these are the
[446]
different things that you can unlock
[448]
for your channel and the first step in
[450]
unlocking these is verifying your
[451]
channel so
[452]
hit verify next you want to come through
[454]
select your country
[455]
you can either do it then with an
[457]
automated voice message or you can get a
[459]
text message
[460]
sent to your phone then enter the
[462]
verification code
[464]
and your channel is now verified so it
[466]
doesn't take much to verify your channel
[468]
and you can see straight away we have
[469]
access now for custom thumbnails
[471]
external annotations
[473]
and we can upload longer videos and we
[475]
can also upload videos as unlisted and
[478]
as
[478]
private so once that's done you want to
[480]
go through and set up your actual
[481]
channel so if we go up here to return to
[484]
youtube studio
[485]
we'll then go to our actual channel so
[487]
we'll come up here to
[488]
view your channel on youtube and over to
[491]
customize
[492]
channel and this is where we can add in
[493]
our channel art or our branding to make
[496]
this
[496]
look and feel like our brand now we have
[499]
a full walkthrough on creating your
[501]
youtube banner including some really
[503]
advanced tips and techniques in there as
[504]
well
[505]
again it's linked below in the
[506]
description in that resources area
[508]
and i'll throw a link up in the cards as
[510]
well but for this one here i'm just
[511]
going to go add channel art
[513]
you get to either upload a photo use any
[515]
photos that are already uploaded on your
[517]
google account
[518]
or there's some in the gallery here from
[520]
youtube that you can use so let's just
[521]
pick this one here
[523]
now you can adjust the crop you can see
[524]
that this does look totally different on
[526]
desktop to tv
[527]
to mobile so if you want to adjust the
[529]
crop and zoom in or crop something out
[532]
you can do that in here as well maybe
[534]
position it up a bit
[535]
cool then hit select so that's how you
[538]
can upload your youtube channel art so
[540]
now if we go over to the about page here
[542]
again you obviously see our description
[544]
in here if we needed to make any changes
[545]
to it
[546]
we can edit that here but there's some
[548]
other details that we can add in down
[549]
here as well so for business inquiries
[551]
we can add in an email address
[553]
and go done so that makes it easy for
[555]
people to find an email address to
[556]
contact us if you want to add a location
[559]
for your channel you can do that in here
[561]
as well so from here you want to go back
[562]
to the youtube studio dashboard
[565]
down to the bottom to settings and then
[567]
down under channel
[569]
and in here there's more settings to
[570]
customize up your channel first so we're
[572]
going to go first is over to this one
[574]
here branding
[574]
this is a little branding watermark that
[577]
you can add to your videos
[578]
it also acts as a subscribe button so
[580]
you could just use your profile picture
[582]
or you could make some little small
[583]
subscribe button so for us i'm just
[585]
going to choose image
[586]
let's go to the desktop i have a little
[588]
youtube watermark subscribe button here
[591]
which looks just like this so something
[593]
really basic and then you get to choose
[594]
where you want this
[596]
displayed so whether it's on screen the
[597]
entire time whether it starts at
[600]
five seconds in or whether it's only
[602]
shown at the end of the video
[604]
so i'm going to leave it here that it
[605]
starts about five seconds in because
[606]
that's going to be after
[607]
any ads or anything as shown at the
[609]
bottom of our video then across to
[611]
advanced settings this is something that
[612]
you will need to specify
[614]
whether your channel is aimed at kids
[616]
content or whether you're creating
[617]
content that is made for kids or not
[620]
so you will need to specify that yes
[622]
this channel is made for kids
[623]
it's gonna have kids content on it or no
[625]
this channel is not made for kids
[627]
now do note that you also have a third
[629]
option here that i want to review this
[631]
setting for every video
[632]
so you can manually set this on a per
[634]
video basis as well so i'm going to go
[636]
with no this channel is not made
[638]
for kids with this one if you do have a
[640]
google ads account you can link it down
[642]
here by just hitting
[643]
link and if we come back across to basic
[645]
info here
[646]
this is where we're able to add in some
[648]
keywords or some key
[649]
tags associated with our channel to
[651]
again show youtube what our channel and
[653]
our content is about
[655]
to give it everything it needs to best
[657]
show
[658]
our channel and our videos up in search
[660]
results and on the youtube platform
[662]
so it could be that you're starting off
[664]
with some obvious ones here
[667]
justin brown primal video
[670]
i'm just pressing the comma then it
[672]
applies it as a tag
[673]
it could be video marketing it could be
[676]
youtube
[677]
for business video editing
[681]
filming on iphone android you get the
[684]
point what are the things that people
[685]
could search for to potentially find
[687]
your channel and again this is where our
[689]
youtube ranking guide that i'm going to
[691]
share with you at the end of this video
[692]
is going to help you find out what these
[695]
terms are
[696]
that your ideal subscribers are
[698]
searching for that you can associate
[699]
with your channel as well
[701]
where the content is related so you want
[702]
to go ahead and add a few of those in
[704]
now only add them in if they are
[706]
relevant to your channel don't just
[708]
add spam ones in or ones that are maybe
[710]
a hot topic right now
[712]
you really just want to add in the ones
[713]
that are relevant to your channel so
[714]
below that you've got upload defaults
[716]
now this is where you can start to
[718]
streamline your upload process so every
[721]
time you upload a video
[722]
these could be the default values that
[724]
are added to each one of your videos so
[726]
for the most part i would say that you
[727]
leave the title and the description
[728]
empty because they are going to relate
[730]
to each video
[730]
but maybe you're setting things like
[732]
every video when you upload it
[734]
to go as private first while you get it
[736]
set up and then you release it at your
[738]
own time
[739]
likewise with tags if there's some tags
[740]
that are going to apply to
[742]
every one of your videos like in our
[744]
case it could be something like primal
[745]
video
[747]
or justin brown we can add those in here
[750]
and they are going to show up
[751]
automatically
[751]
when we upload every video and there's
[753]
more upload defaults under advanced
[755]
settings here
[756]
around licensing and allowing comments
[758]
and those sorts of things that you can
[760]
lock down
[760]
as well so those are the main settings
[762]
in there that you'll want to go through
[764]
so we'll just hit save to back out out
[766]
of that so now that your channel is
[768]
pretty close to being set up we can now
[769]
go through and add in any managers or
[771]
any other
[772]
accounts that we would like to have as
[774]
managers on our channel
[775]
so to do that come back up to your
[777]
profile picture head to
[779]
youtube just to take you back to the
[780]
youtube dashboard
[782]
and then when we click on the profile
[783]
picture you're going to get more options
[785]
in here
[785]
so if we then come down to settings and
[787]
then you can add and remove managers
[789]
down here under channel managers
[791]
just click on here and you can assign
[793]
people to be managers on your channel
[795]
now while we're on this page i will also
[797]
show you the view advanced settings in
[799]
here so in here this is where it gives
[800]
you your user id your channel id
[803]
in case you need those to link up things
[804]
like tubebuddy or other
[806]
youtube channel management tools which
[808]
we use and strongly recommend
[810]
and the other thing that's on this page
[811]
is this is where you come to set your
[813]
custom url
[814]
once your channel has been approved for
[817]
it so
[817]
this is where you can have youtube.com
[819]
forward slash primal video as the link
[821]
that you give people
[822]
instead of having your link a bunch of
[825]
random numbers
[826]
and letters now there are requirements
[828]
for this if we click on this now it'll
[829]
tell us in here
[830]
that in order to have a custom url your
[833]
channel will need to have 100
[834]
subscribers or more
[835]
be at least 30 days old have an uploaded
[837]
photo as a channel icon
[839]
and have uploaded channel art so once
[841]
you've reached those things
[842]
that is where you can go back and add
[844]
that as well
[846]
so if we go back to our channel page now
[848]
this channel is now set up and ready to
[850]
go
[851]
for you to start uploading content
[852]
obviously all you need to do then
[854]
is film some videos and come up here and
[856]
hit upload video
[857]
and you're good to go so that's the
[859]
complete walkthrough
[861]
on creating and setting up your youtube
[863]
channel now we've mentioned this a
[864]
couple of times in this video but linked
[866]
on screen
[867]
is our youtube ranking guide this is a
[869]
free download a free resource for you
[872]
to help you find high traffic low
[874]
competition keywords
[875]
that you can use to help optimize your
[877]
channel and your videos
[878]
to show up in both google and youtube
[881]
search
[882]
this is the exact strategy that we use
[884]
to grow our channel
[885]
and that we teach our clients and
[887]
students as well so click the link to
[888]
grab your copy
[889]
and i'll see you in the next video
