Trump Hugs U.S. Flag, Calls 'Bulls**t' On Russia In Unhinged CPAC Speech | The 11th Hour | MSNBC - YouTube
Channel: MSNBC
[0]
I actually started quite a while ago NC
[7]
Peck and came here probably made my
[10]
first real political speech and I
[13]
enjoyed it so much that I came back for
[16]
a second one then a third then I said
[18]
what the hell let's run for president
[20]
right this is a portion of our broadcast
[23]
where we warn the folks watching us on
[25]
the west coast where it's 8 p.m. local
[27]
time if you have little kiddies around
[29]
they're about to hear the president use
[31]
some foul language anyway that's how
[34]
President Trump started his freewheeling
[37]
2 hour long speech at the annual
[39]
gathering of the conservative political
[42]
action committee he actually started
[44]
with this snarky left-leaning Twitter
[48]
enthusiast couldn't wait to say that our
[50]
flag had just experienced a meet two
[53]
moments the speech was his longest ever
[56]
it was to a crowd the president deems
[58]
friendly this would be some idea of how
[60]
it went
[64]
[Applause]
[68]
he asked Russia to come get the email
[74]
darling is the wind blowing today I'd
[76]
like to watch television darling they
[78]
don't respect us they think we're stupid
[81]
oh I have one of the great inventions in
[84]
history it's called TiVo and I'm in the
[86]
white house that I was lonely I said
[89]
let's go to a rat seven trillion dollars
[91]
and we have to fly in with no lights the
[94]
Attorney General says I'm gonna recuse
[96]
myself
[97]
number one I'm in love and you're in
[99]
love we're all in love together yet I
[100]
see senators that are there for 20 years
[103]
white hair see I don't have white hair
[107]
so I met generals I didn't know general
[110]
one general to general three I said
[112]
what's your name sir my name is raisin
[115]
what the hell kind of a name I said
[118]
raised it liked the fruit this was now
[120]
greater than the election of Andrew
[122]
Jackson people say they're know people
[123]
said I'm not saying it and all of a
[125]
sudden they're trying to take you out
[127]
with okay I'm gonna regret this
[131]
so there you have it the speech
[134]
was also loaded with false claims and
[136]
outright lies the Washington Post
[137]
reports today and we quote Trump's
[139]
performance at CPAC is implementing of
[141]
his version of the truth during his
[143]
presidency a potent mix of exaggerated
[146]
numbers unwarranted boasting outright
[148]
falsehoods his speech helped push March
[151]
third to his fourth biggest day for
[153]
false or misleading claims totaling 104
[157]
with us tonight to talk all about it
[159]
Phil Rucker Pulitzer Prize winning White
[161]
House bureau chief for the Washington
[164]
Post and Laura Barone Lopez national
[167]
political reporter for Politico to our
[170]
guests welcome to you both other than
[172]
the fact that the president has no white
[174]
hair Phil what did anyone thing there
[177]
stand out to you well Brian I think it's
[180]
the totality of that speech the two plus
[183]
hours it was a tour de force you know
[186]
what some people saw as crazy and
[189]
unhinged and perhaps a reason to invoke
[191]
the 25th amendment some of his
[193]
supporters saw as authentic and raw and
[196]
you know the reason why they've created
[198]
this cult of personality around Donald
[201]
Trump in that audience at CPAC people
[203]
were cheering and clapping and standing
[205]
there sitting their raft
[207]
as he went from one point to another to
[210]
another to another and and was there so
[212]
long he started to get sweaty Laura a
[215]
lot of people saw it as an obvious
[217]
attempt to change the narrative coming
[221]
off a very bad week for him talk about
[224]
that and talk about if you can how CPAC
[227]
has changed just in the course of the
[230]
Trump presidency right well as Phil
[233]
mentioned I mean this was an unwieldy
[235]
two-hour long speech and Trump gave his
[238]
voters exactly what they wanted he gave
[240]
the red meat to his base he talked about
[242]
Hillary Clinton again he talked about
[244]
the electoral college you know he also
[247]
as we heard a used profanity and his
[250]
tirade against the molar probe so he was
[252]
very much feeling in a corner and
[255]
finally unleashed after we heard Cohan
[258]
testify last week and again you know
[261]
this just highlights the Trump's
[264]
takeover of the Republican Party and how
[267]
Republicans were unfazed by Cohen's
[270]
testimony and that they were excited to
[273]
hear from the president when he when he
[275]
came to CPAC and they were unfazed also
[278]
him coming off of his North Korea summit
[280]
trip and it being a failure and him
[284]
being unable to reach a deal there and
[287]
in and also at the same time praising
[289]
the dictator Kim Jong hoon Phil the
[292]
president went further than that
[294]
apparently talks with North Korea fell
[297]
apart because of Michael Cohen so
[299]
Americans feeling less safe tonight in
[301]
our nuclear world can blame Michael
[304]
Cohen the president actually tweeted
[307]
about that Phil and and said there it is
[310]
may have contributed to the walk meaning
[313]
we got up and walked out never done when
[316]
a president is overseas shame your
[318]
reaction well that's first of all that's
[321]
a bit of revisionist history about the
[323]
walk because minutes after he walked
[325]
away from the negotiating table with Kim
[327]
jong-un president Trump told the
[329]
reporters including me I was there in
[332]
Hanoi that he did so because he couldn't
[335]
meet the economic sanctions demands that
[338]
North Korea had for the United States
[340]
but you know it's not the it's not
[341]
Michael Cohen's fault or the Democratic
[344]
lawmakers fault that this summit failed
[346]
it failed because there's such a big
[349]
gulf between the u.s. and North Korea on
[352]
this issue of denuclearization and
[354]
president Trump has not put in the
[356]
spadework the diplomatic work to really
[359]
lay the foundation for a deal and come
[361]
to a meeting of the minds he thought he
[363]
could jet halfway around the world and
[364]
sort of sit face to face with Kim
[366]
jong-un and because of the love letters
[368]
that they sent back and forth and
[370]
because of the personal chemistry that
[372]
they had developed they could suddenly
[374]
create a deal but you know international
[376]
diplomacy doesn't quite work that way
[378]
Laura were you at all surprised in the
[381]
coverage of Saturday's speech by the
[384]
president yes our phones all lit up
[386]
I was following Phil Rutgers kind of
[389]
minute-by-minute account of what had
[391]
happened our phones all blew up with the
[394]
fact that our president had used a swear
[397]
word twice in the public domain but it
[401]
was kind of well he's he's at it again
[403]
there was a there was a notion that he
[406]
had said a whole lot of things over two
[409]
hours yes that's right I mean again I
[412]
think that what Phil said at the top was
[414]
key saying that it's the totality of all
[416]
this that it was two hours which I think
[418]
is one of the longest speech he's ever
[420]
given but again I mean this is true to
[423]
form for Trump and it really should be
[426]
no surprise that he was using profanity
[428]
we've known that he's been want to do
[430]
that in his conversations with officials
[432]
in the White House hey there I'm Chris
