Reality of 1.5 Crore Package After IIT in USA! Do I make $250k as Software Engineer? - YouTube
Channel: Singh in USA
[0]
Hey guys! you must may have heard that IITians get 1.5 Crore package in US
[9]
check India 66 lakh in India is common and 1.5 crore in USA
[18]
but I am going to share the reality as I have become a Software Engineer in the US
[25]
I will share why my salary's value is more than $300k and more than 1.5 crore in USA
[38]
I will also compare the salaries after IIT in US vs after degree in US
[46]
I will clear all your doubts. the goal of this video is pretty simple to show if you are on OPT or on H1B which city you should choose
[53]
whether it is $80k or $200k in Different cities
[60]
So lets face the reality because all the students (IITians) who get package in California or in US around 1.5 crore is all FAKE
[70]
Lets say an IITian gets get a job in Palo Alto area in California around $250k
[77]
Lets compare it with Atlanta where $80k is considered really good
[95]
Let's change the game and lets convert $85k in Atlanta into the one in Palo Alto
[103]
you will find out that $85k if around $450k
[108]
To give you a clear picture of the salary specially Software Engineer salary given to my friend Dr. Chaitanya Sambhara who will be sharing why he chose Texas over California
[119]
Did you get an opportunity to go to California as a professor? What was the salary difference?
[129]
I am Chaitanya Sambhara
[137]
I also went to Georgia State like you did I did my masters and PhD there
[143]
When I was finishing my PhD I had interviewed at many places
[148]
My first job offer was in a university in the bay area
[155]
almost at the same time I got another offer in Ohio
[161]
The salary that was offered in bay area was similar to a standard newbie software engineer. I was offered $143k
in Ohio I was offered starting salary $150k
[177]
I was getting $7k more in a place that was dirt cheap
[183]
it should be noted what my thinking was like
I was a student for 9 long years (MS+PhD)
[189]
I didn't have much money
[193]
So when I graduated, I want to come out of poverty
[198]
if I were to go to such an expensive place like bay area
[202]
When I interviewed there, they gave a real estate tour
homes there cost 2-3 million
the cheap 1 million homes were shabby and dilapidated
[227]
Then in Ohio, the rent was
just $800 (actually $795) per month for a 2 bed 2 bath apartment
[236]
same 2 bed 2 bath will cost 3500-4500 in bay area, it can cost even more
[255]
let us compare on bare minimum basis. If I took a 2 bed 2 bath in bay area, it costs 3500
[264]
and in Ohio, if I were paying just 800
[268]
year difference in savings in Ohio on rent alone were $33k,
[271]
and in just three years I could spend $100k less living in Ohio, saving on rent alone
[279]
so I knew that if I go to Ohio rather than bay area, I could come out of poverty very quickly
[286]
not just that, if you compare with areas like Palo Alto where you have Apple headquarters
[289]
everything is expensive
[293]
gas is twice as expensive
[295]
car parking is 3-4 times expensive
[299]
you know in Ohio I used to pay just 25 cents to park my car for an hour
[311]
in San Francisco it would cost around $15 at least
[321]
already they were paying me lower as compared to Ohio
[323]
everything else was very expensive on the top of that
[326]
why would I want to go to SFO?
[329]
Believe it or not, the equivalent value of my current salary (in Texas) in Palo Alto is more than $1 Million for the same lifestyle
[349]
Your lifestyle can be very different for the same salary depending on where you are
[356]
When people get excited for 1 crore, 1.5 crore salary
[363]
all such salaries when compared on lifestyle equivalence and affordability you wont believe 2 crore offer in Palo Alto is no better than 15 lacs in Bengaluru, India
[395]
If you are making $80k -$90k in Texas, Georgia etc then it is not less than $160k in California
[408]
cost of living is very high in bay area due to rent/home, but you can still afford it if you share your apartment
[422]
You can find a cheaper option in Atlanta. Can you find cheaper apt with sharing somewhere in Bay area?
[429]
I am telling you a real life incident. There were two newly married couple. It was so expensive for them to afford it.
[448]
The two separate married couples were sharing a two bedroom apartment ( a bedroom and bath for each couple) in bay area to be able to save some money
[459]
The inflated salaries that we see in SFO and bay area, expenses are also very high
[465]
When you hear that someone is getting very high starting salary in google, facebook
[474]
no need to be impressed by it so much
[480]
You can afford a much better lifestyle for half of that salary if you live in an affordable place
[496]
but there are no high rise apartments in bay area due to local laws
[506]
how much real state can you get then?
[514]
many people live 1-2 hours away, and commute
[521]
but even the places where they live, are not that cheap
[534]
lets say you want to have enough savings that you can live without a job for one full year
[545]
It took me 1.5-2 years in Ohio to save that much
[551]
in bay area it would have taken me 12-15 years may be
[575]
These are infact the cons. Coming back to pros in few seconds. Thanks professor fro sharing your quality information also your journey from Student to Professor on your channel
