Red iPhone 7 Scratch Test - How durable is it?! - YouTube
Channel: JerryRigEverything
[0]
In front of me I have the (Product)RED iPhone
7.
[2]
I have already tested the glass display of
the iPhone 7 in one of my previous durability
[7]
tests.
[8]
The only thing we havnt tested is this deep
red coloring.
[10]
Is it as scratchable as the Jet Black iPhone
7?
[13]
Or can it handle a little every day life?
[15]
Lets find out
[16]
[Intro]
[22]
One thing I do like about iPhones is that
they have an all metal design.
[25]
It is Heavy and solid.
[27]
Which is good.
[27]
[Nails on a chalk board]
[29]
And it looks like Apple has kept with that
same theme on this red version.
[33]
The top is metal...
[34]
[Grinding Teeth]
[37]
The red iPhone 7 still has the plastic antenna
lines that curve around the corners.
[41]
It blends in pretty well with the metal.
[43]
Even if it doesn't sound as delicious during
the scratch test.
[47]
The sides are metal as well...
[49]
[Nazgul Screeeching]
[51]
Its even metal down here where the headphone
jack should be.
[55]
[Babies on an airplane]
[58]
And for the ultimate perk in quality, the
buttons are also metal.
[61]
[Stubbing your toe]
[63]
Its a very good feeling phone all round.
[65]
I approve so far.
[67]
The anodized coloring on the back SHOULD be
pretty resilient as well.
[70]
We are going to find out.
[71]
If you were to toss your unprotected cell
phone in the same pocket as your keys, The
[75]
red is just not as good at hiding the marks as the Matte black version that I tested
[79]
earlier.
[81]
Most of the marks can rub off, but the faint
outline is still there.
[84]
Its still more scratch resistant than the
jet black 7 though.
[89]
Coins, seem to have the same effect as keys.
[91]
Its almost as if the keys and coins are rubbing
off onto the red.
[94]
Instead of the red getting damaged.
[96]
But either way, the marks are permanent.
[100]
So its probably a good idea to have some kind
of protection on your phone.
[104]
The center apple looks like it is made from
polished aluminum.
[106]
My razor blade can definitely mark it up,
but something normal like keys or coins should
[112]
be just fine.
[113]
The coin didn't add any marks into the mess.
[117]
Now Apple.
[118]
And Product Red, are pretty interesting.
[120]
[Homework on the weekend]
[124]
Apple has been partnered with product red
for about 10 years now, and by selling the
[128]
'Product Red' items in the store,
[131]
[Slow drivers in the fast lane]
[135]
...They've raised more than 130,000,000 dollars
for the Global Fund to fight AIDS.
[143]
[Politics]
[144]
Thats pretty impressive cuz Apple estimates
even just one dollar can provide 3 days worth
[148]
of lifesaving medicine for someone.
[152]
Another noticeable contributor to the Global
Fund is the
[155]
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
[157]
[slow wifi]
[159]
They've contributed about 1,400,000,000 dollars
since 2001.
[163]
And if you know if Bill Gates is donating
to something, its gotta be good.
[170]
Its great to see two huge organizations contributing
to something so impactful and life saving on
[175]
a global scale.
[177]
Every penny counts, so thumbs up for Apple
and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
[182]
for contributing.
[183]
If you are interested in donating to the global
fund to fight AIDs but dont want to buy an
[188]
iPhone.
[189]
Apple has included a link at the bottom of
their website.
[191]
But all it seems to do at the moment is cycle
through to Apples own iTunes store.
[195]
So Ill include a working link in MY video
description of this video where you can contribute
[199]
directly to the Global Fund, until apple gets
that link fixed.
[202]
Maybe with all of us working together we really
can have an Aids free generation.
[206]
That concludes math time with Jerry.
[208]
Anker was kind enough to send me out some
clear cases to protect my artwork on the phone...
[212]
Or maybe it was to protect the phone from
my artwork...
[215]
I forget exactly what the letter said.
[217]
The case is surprisingly clear which means
this might be the perfect solution for people
[221]
who want to show off their Red iPhone without
covering anything up.
[225]
Its a pretty tight and snug fit all the way
around the phone.
[228]
If you want something slightly more structural
than just rubber, they also sent an ice-case
[233]
with a more ridged plastic bumper.
[234]
It has the same tight fit, but has the bonus
protection of the harder plastic ring around
[239]
the side.
[240]
And best part of all they are surprisingly
inexpensive.
[242]
Ill toss some links right below this video
if you want to check them out.
[245]
Huge thanks to Anker for sending me the cases.
[247]
My phone definitely appreciates it.
[249]
Since I'm sure a few people are curious.
[251]
I did to a Mohs
Test on the back of the aluminum, the level
[254]
4 pick behaved the same as the keys and coins,
but the level 5 pick was able to scrape off
[259]
some of the red coating.
[261]
[automated phone systems]
[264]
Kind of interesting.
[265]
Most of my behind the scenes stuff happens
on Twitter and Instagram, so follow me over
[268]
there, and thank you so much for watching!
[270]
Ill see you around.
