[6]
hi everyone so
[7]
a couple of months ago i released a
[8]
video all about google
[10]
project management certificate maybe it
[12]
was a few months prior to that
[13]
but there seems to be a lot of interest
[16]
in those
[16]
certificates that google is offering
[19]
they also have other
[21]
areas such as data analytics and other
[23]
i.t related
[24]
certificates but i wanted to focus on
[26]
the project management one
[28]
because one of the things that a lot of
[29]
people are asking is like
[31]
is it worth it should i take it how
[34]
is this comparable to the pmi
[37]
certificates the
[38]
capum and the pmp so i just wanted to
[41]
spend
[42]
a few minutes talking about them and
[45]
what i recommend as someone who's
[47]
constantly hiring people
[49]
who is a program manager and i'm
[51]
constantly seeing
[52]
a bulk of resumes come my way for those
[55]
who don't know me my name is siobhan and
[56]
i
[57]
mainly talk about productivity
[59]
organization work-life balance
[61]
and talking about how to do that with
[63]
young adults and babies so
[65]
let's go ahead and get started talking
[67]
about the google project management
[69]
certificate
[70]
and how that relates to the kapum in the
[72]
pmp so google just relieved
[74]
the the certificate i believe has been a
[78]
couple of months
[79]
at this point and people have started
[81]
taking them
[82]
google says that if you take the
[85]
certificate
[86]
program which they say usually takes
[88]
about
[89]
six months it could be less for some
[91]
people or longer for other people
[93]
but they do say that it's an estimate
[95]
that it will take about six months
[97]
so they're saying that after you take
[99]
this certificate program
[100]
you're going to be able to be connected
[103]
to
[104]
some of their partners that have
[105]
partnered up with them for the
[107]
certificate
[108]
and you're you'll be able to get an
[111]
interview and possibly a job
[114]
with these companies and one person did
[118]
comment
[119]
on my video and they said that they took
[121]
the i.t certificate
[123]
and they said that nothing happened and
[125]
i have seen some
[126]
people also say that as well but you
[129]
also have to think about the fact that
[130]
these this is a new program
[132]
and with new programs it sometimes takes
[135]
a while
[136]
for there to be any type of
[140]
progress it might be something that
[142]
maybe in
[143]
two years down the line i'll probably
[145]
revisit because
[147]
google will be able to have a chance to
[149]
tweak
[150]
some of the program they'll be able to
[152]
have
[153]
more data more feedback from people
[155]
who've taken the program
[157]
as well as their partners who've
[159]
possibly hired people
[161]
and make the program even better usually
[164]
when people think about project
[166]
management and what certificates that
[167]
they should be taking
[168]
people think about the pmp the project
[171]
management professional certification
[173]
that is offered by pmi with that
[175]
certification there are requirements
[177]
that have to be met
[178]
and sometimes especially if you're
[180]
starting out you're not going to meet
[181]
those requirements
[183]
and with that pmi also offers the
[186]
kappam and that is for someone who has
[189]
started doing project management but
[191]
they don't have
[192]
the extensive experience that someone
[195]
who's taken the pmp will have
[198]
and it is also a good certificate
[200]
especially for someone who's starting
[202]
out
[203]
one thing to note is if you've already
[206]
been doing project management for a year
[208]
or two
[208]
i do recommend that you go for the
[211]
captain
[212]
if you have more experience than that
[214]
and you meet the requirements of the pmp
[217]
definitely want to study for that hard
[220]
ass
[220]
certification exam and take it and get
[223]
that certification
[224]
because the pmp is the gold standard if
[227]
you've never been exposed to project
[228]
management and you're trying to delve
[229]
into it and you don't want to go
[231]
into a four-year program or a two-year
[234]
program
[235]
i do think that the google project
[236]
management certificate
[238]
program is a good one to have and the
[241]
reason i say that is because one of the
[243]
things that
[244]
google says on the website is the fact
[247]
that
[248]
all those hours that you take taking the
[251]
google project management certificate
[253]
program you can apply that
[255]
to the kappa when you're ready to take
[259]
that
[259]
and i think that's great because a
[260]
requirement of the capm and the pmp
[263]
is that you have a certain amount of
[264]
hours of experience or education i think
[268]
that's really great that google is
[269]
saying that the hours that you're
[271]
spending in this program you're able to
[274]
apply it to
[275]
take your kappa and your pmp so i just
[278]
really quickly wanted to say that
[279]
because there has been some confusion
[281]
about it
[282]
and i'll just break it down real quick
[283]
again if you've never
[285]
had any exposure to project management
[288]
go ahead and do the google project
[290]
management certificate program
[292]
if you do have some project management
[295]
experience
[296]
then i do recommend that you go for the
[298]
kappa which
[300]
will be more recognized than the google
[302]
project certificate
[304]
but if you really have extensive
[307]
experience and i want to say is five
[308]
years but i gotta check the guidelines
[310]
to see if they change that it could be
[312]
three but
[314]
i have to check the guidelines and i'll
[315]
post it there but if you do have
[318]
the amount of experience to qualify for
[321]
the pmp
[322]
then don't waste your time on the google
[325]
management certificate don't waste your
[326]
time getting the cap em go for the pmp
[329]
that's all i wanted to say and i think
[332]
the other thing too
[333]
is the fact that there has been a debate
[336]
if you need a four-year degree is
[339]
college even worth it and that really is
[341]
a personal choice more and more i'm
[345]
starting to see that hiring managers are
[347]
not focused on degrees and certificate
[349]
certification
[350]
i've always been an advocate of the fact
[352]
that if you're looking at a resume
[354]
you don't have to focus on if the person
[356]
has this degree
[358]
or that certification because believe me
[360]
i have met plenty of people who have all
[363]
these certifications
[365]
and they are not the best
[369]
i'm trying to say that in the nicest way
[371]
and someone who is off the street
[373]
and who doesn't have any of these
[374]
certifications and just have a lot of
[376]
hands on experience
[378]
are better candidates than someone who
[380]
doesn't again that's me personally
[382]
there's other hiring managers that focus
[384]
on all that but then there's people like
[386]
me
[387]
who don't even care about that they
[389]
focus on speaking with the person
[391]
getting to understand what their actual
[393]
experience is because again i've met
[396]
plenty of people
[397]
who have the perfect degrees the perfect
[400]
certifications
[401]
and they are not the best at their job
[404]
but i do
[404]
see that there is a shift in people's
[406]
mindset on that
[407]
but yeah so let me know your thoughts
[410]
let me know if you're doing the google
[411]
project management certificate program
[414]
if you're doing the kappa or you're
[415]
doing the pmp i would love to know
[418]
and i will talk to everybody later have
[420]
a good week
[421]
bye
