Why You Need A Roth Right Now || Why a Roth IRA Can be Better Than a Traditional IRA || Joe Wirbick - YouTube

hello everybody joe orbit coming at you
[2]
today we are going to talk about roth
[5]
iras what is a roth ira why may you want
[9]
to invest in it why it may not fit your
[11]
future and how is it going to affect
[13]
your income when you actually retire so
[15]
roth iras were started by senator roth
[18]
back in the late 90s and the idea behind
[20]
the roth was that this was an account
[22]
that would allow you to have money grow
[24]
tax free i want that to sink in for a
[28]
moment because there's hardly any
[29]
options we have as us citizens to
[32]
achieve something on a tax-free basis
[34]
and the roth is your answer to that so
[37]
how does it work if you want to put
[39]
money away for the future if you stick
[41]
the money into the roth this year you
[45]
have to pay taxes on the money you're
[47]
sticking into the roth so why would you
[49]
do that you would do that if you feel
[52]
there's any chance that taxes may go up
[55]
in the future because you're paying your
[57]
tax now and if taxes go up in the future
[61]
you won't participate in that tax
[63]
increase and unlike an ira where you
[66]
become a partner with the us treasury
[68]
department and they own a portion of
[69]
your account with a roth ira the entire
[73]
account is yours you own 100
[77]
of the account so you put the money into
[79]
it you pay the tax now each and every
[82]
year that the account grows
[85]
then this sounds a little weird but i'm
[86]
going to be technical here each and
[88]
every year the account actually grows
[90]
tax deferred similar to an ira and why
[93]
do they say tax deferred because you
[94]
have to meet the requirements the
[96]
guidelines for when you access the money
[99]
from the roth in order for it to be
[101]
tax-free
[102]
make sure you follow those guidelines
[104]
and the money becomes tax-free now when
[107]
you go to take the money out as long as
[109]
you've met those guidelines and those
[110]
guidelines are you have had the roth ira
[114]
established for at least five years
[117]
that's the five-year rule and it's only
[120]
one five-year period for anybody in the
[122]
country so if you've put a dollar into a
[125]
roth six years ago you've met those
[127]
requirements then the other thing you
[129]
have to think about is you have to be 59
[130]
and a half in order to access the funds
[133]
from that 100 tax free if you want to
[135]
access all the money from the roth ira
[139]
big difference from the roth ira to the
[142]
ira there are no required minimum
[146]
distributions no rmds on a roth ira and
[149]
why is that well in the ira the irs is
[152]
forcing the money out at 72 because
[155]
they're tired of waiting and they want
[156]
to get their tax dollars a roth is 100
[159]
tax free so when you pull the money out
[161]
the irs doesn't get paid at all so
[163]
there's no reason for them to have
[165]
required minimum distributions
[167]
also
[168]
when the roth comes out it doesn't
[170]
affect your social security so if the
[172]
only income you have is social security
[174]
and roth you retire 100 tax-free it's
[178]
incredible i know you probably didn't
[180]
think it was possible it is possible
[182]
with social security and with a roth so
[185]
as i said if you believe there's any
[188]
possibility that taxes may go up in the
[189]
future that you may be in a higher tax
[192]
bracket down the road you should be
[193]
looking at roth iras now a traditional
[196]
roth ira has income limitations so if
[199]
you earn more than a certain amount of
[201]
money and i'll have a link down below
[202]
for the irs guidelines of those income
[204]
limitations you cannot contribute to a
[207]
traditional roth ira that's why they
[210]
invented roth 401ks there's no income
[213]
limitations on a raw 401k so if you're
[216]
working for a company and they offer a
[217]
401k get on the computer check to see do
[221]
they offer a roth 401k and would you
[224]
want to start making your contributions
[227]
into the roth portion
[228]
of that 401k and again you only do that
[231]
if you feel there's any possibility
[234]
taxes may go up in the future now as of
[236]
the recording of this video we're in the
[238]
lowest tax brackets we've seen in
[240]
decades at this country and we're facing
[243]
unprecedented debt levels 26 27 trillion
[246]
dollars of debt so there is a slight
[248]
possibility that taxes may go up in the
[251]
future and if you feel that way as well
[253]
you need to take a deep look into how
[256]
you're saving your money because doesn't
[258]
it make sense to pay the taxes now and
[261]
never have to pay the taxes again
[264]
no required distributions
[266]
no taxes and when you pass
[269]
that money passes on to your kids your
[272]
beneficiaries 100
[276]
tax free it's incredible how much more
[279]
money you can pass on how much more
[282]
income you can have when you're not
[284]
paying taxes in 2019 there was a secure
[287]
act put into place and the secure act
[289]
said when you pass on an ira or a roth
[292]
ira the beneficiaries can no longer
[294]
stretch out that distribution phase that
[297]
means they have to take the money out of
[299]
the account within 10 years and let's be
[301]
honest let's say you've done a great job
[304]
you've put away hundreds of thousands of
[306]
dollars into your ira or your roth ira
[308]
when you pass and the beneficiaries are
[310]
given the option do you want the money
[312]
now or do you want to wait 10 years what
[315]
do you think the average beneficiary is
[317]
going to say the beautiful thing about
[318]
the roth no matter what they do whether
[321]
they take the money now or they wait the
[322]
10 years it's 100 percent income tax
[325]
free to your heirs so what i've found is
[329]
you can increase your legacy to your
[331]
heirs simply by having money sitting in
[333]
roth iras roth 401ks i hope this video
