How to rent a house in Mexico | Queretaro - YouTube
Channel: La Karencita
[4]
everyone wants to live in the beautiful
[5]
city of caritago because of its
[7]
beautiful architecture
[9]
[Music]
[12]
it's year-round perfect weather
[17]
it's accessible cost of living
[20]
[Music]
[25]
kereta is a very popular destination
[28]
where many expats want to live
[30]
but it's not only expats if you come
[32]
here you'll realize that many people
[35]
aren't from kereta that means that
[37]
people from all over the country and the
[39]
rest of the world
[40]
want to come here
[44]
[Music]
[50]
my husband and i are looking to rent an
[52]
apartment we're staying in airbnb
[54]
at the moment and this is a place where
[56]
we want to leave keretago in mexico
[59]
people watching the channel often ask me
[61]
what do you need to run an apartment in
[63]
mexico
[64]
stick around and i'll show you
[66]
everything you need to know
[73]
we looked for an apartment or house
[74]
online and we realized they were a
[77]
little bit more
[78]
expensive than we expected because the
[81]
first thing that comes up
[83]
is the big real estate agencies like
[86]
mithulla.com or propiedades.com
[89]
in karate there are a lot of facebook
[91]
groups
[92]
devoted to renting or selling apartments
[95]
so we decided to try that
[99]
so what we need is a house or an
[102]
apartment
[103]
it needs to be furnished because we
[106]
don't have any
[107]
furniture because we've just arrived in
[108]
mexico i don't want to buy
[110]
and we don't want to buy any it's very
[112]
expensive and we want to live as close
[115]
to the center as possible
[117]
our budget is five hundred dollars five
[119]
hundred dollars i put five hundred
[120]
dollars
[121]
yeah about ten thousand pesos a month so
[124]
i've put this post and we'll see
[126]
how much response we get
[129]
so we made the post and we were
[131]
surprised by the amount of answers we
[133]
received
[135]
so we've got some responses on facebook
[136]
here so let's have a look
[138]
what do you think i think we've got a
[141]
lot of options
[142]
and they look pretty good let's choose
[144]
three of them
[146]
okay let's see how it goes so one person
[148]
has sent us an apartment for
[150]
8 500 pesos a month that sounds great
[154]
sounds good okay and what else
[157]
what about this one so let's see let's
[159]
see if they come back to us
[162]
let's see let's see
[165]
[Music]
[168]
we are outside the first apartment that
[169]
we are about to see
[171]
and we're waiting for the real estate
[173]
agent to show us
[184]
what i liked about this apartment is
[186]
that it has a pool
[187]
and also it's very cheap it costs 8
[190]
500 pesos a month which is 425
[196]
which is a very good price because we
[198]
are in a central area as well
[200]
well let's see let's see how it goes
[201]
with the second apartment
[204]
we're about to see the second apartment
[206]
and we arrive a little bit earlier
[208]
but so far i can see that i like
[211]
this area more behind me we have a green
[214]
browser we have a voucher we have a
[216]
pharmacy
[217]
we have all this right on our doorstep
[223]
so what did you think of the second
[224]
house uh
[226]
i like it very much it's very big it's i
[229]
think that house is
[230]
perfect for a family three bedrooms yeah
[233]
it was in a part of keratoro called
[235]
cantilev which is
[237]
quite a long way from the center but
[239]
still that area is very good
[241]
you can live there without any problem
[243]
so that was ten thousand pesos a month
[246]
not including bills uh it doesn't
[248]
include a washing machine
[249]
there's an included washing machine and
[251]
probably a sofa
[252]
yeah i think there were quite a few
[254]
things that we would need to buy if we
[256]
chose that house yeah
[268]
[Music]
[271]
this is beautiful i think this is my
[272]
favorite house
[274]
[Music]
[279]
of course we're going to have a lot of
[281]
options to take the best decision
[283]
so we saw this third house and it's
[287]
it's beautiful i really like it it has a
[290]
rooftop
[290]
with a hot tub
[297]
so which house should we choose so the
[300]
first apartment had a pool
[302]
and it was the cheapest although it was
[304]
a little bit small the second house was
[306]
super big
[307]
although it was very expensive i think
[310]
we found
[311]
the house that we want the third one was
[314]
amazing yeah i'm very excited yeah i can
[317]
imagine having
[318]
people around and sunbathing on the roof
[321]
yeah
[321]
in the hot tub having a barbecue yeah
[324]
yeah it looks good
[325]
okay let's tell them and we'll let you
[328]
know how we get done
[332]
but we didn't imagine the amount of
[334]
paperwork they would ask for
[338]
[Music]
[348]
and just as we gathered all the
[350]
paperwork we had an unpleasant surprise
[358]
as you already saw they ask for a lot of
[360]
requirements
[361]
normally if you want to rent a house in
[363]
mexico they ask for
[365]
pretty much the same requirements so one
[367]
of these is
[368]
an about which is in english is
[371]
guarantor so somebody
[373]
who's going to co-sign the lease and if
[375]
you don't pay
[376]
then they'd have to pay and it's not
[378]
just that they say it needs to be
[380]
somebody who already owns a property in
[382]
kereta we were very lucky because we
[384]
already own a house in mexico
[386]
so they allowed to put this house as a
[390]
guarantee yeah yeah so i'm there
[393]
another procedure if you don't have a
[395]
naval and that's called
[397]
police which means in english the
[400]
document that a
[401]
lawyer makes up for you and it makes it
[403]
easier for them to sue you
[405]
if you don't pay i think for that you
[407]
have to pay
[408]
for us it was four thousand pesos
[411]
yeah it's not cheap no it's not cheap
[414]
for some reason
[416]
even though we had the property they
[417]
wanted the police that would really go
[418]
as well
[419]
we needed to provide five references
[422]
so they called my family in the uk they
[425]
called your mom
[426]
they're called some friends friends yeah
[428]
right it's
[429]
very weird because they can't say
[431]
anything about you
[432]
bank statements passports visas
[436]
in your case in my case marriage
[439]
certificates
[440]
yeah they were they were asking for a
[442]
lot
[443]
of things and i was getting annoyed i
[445]
think some of the real estate agencies
[447]
are quite strict
[448]
so we were getting a bit frustrated with
[450]
all of these requirements
[451]
and they as you can see they're asking
[454]
for quite personal information
[455]
you have to consider that we'd already
[457]
paid the deposit
[459]
so they've seen our bank statements
[460]
they'd seen they called all of our
[462]
families it seemed that we were
[464]
able to pay the rent and that we were
[466]
trustworthy people
[467]
so it's normal in mexico if you sign for
[469]
a house you'll have to sign
[471]
a series of packers
[473]
[Music]
[477]
in english literally means i will pay
[480]
when you rent a house in mexico it's
[482]
normal to sign 12 promises
[485]
one for each one of the contract when
[487]
you pay the rent for each month
[490]
they report the contract the document or
[493]
they give it back to you but if you
[495]
don't pay
[496]
they can sue you with that document and
[499]
well that's quite normal
[500]
you usually sign for 12 pagaries one for
[503]
each month
[504]
but they were asking for a 13th
[507]
battery and this battery was for
[511]
111 000 mexican pesos
[514]
which is five nearly six thousand
[516]
dollars
[518]
for the furniture if you rent a
[520]
furnished house and you break something
[522]
and then you have to pay for it that
[523]
makes sense we understand that
[526]
but in that paragraph it said that we
[529]
needed to pay
[530]
all the furniture we'll show you the the
[532]
wording of the packary
[533]
is in spanish but it says we promise to
[536]
pay
[536]
you 111 000 pesos on this date
[540]
next year nothing about furniture just
[543]
like that
[544]
and i said to them the owner we're not
[546]
signing this this is no good
[548]
what did she say oh don't worry don't
[550]
worry it's just in case
[552]
you're gonna pay this it didn't say
[554]
anything it just said that we needed to
[556]
pay that
[557]
so we consulted with our lawyer and on
[560]
his advice
[560]
we we withdrew so now
[564]
we don't have anywhere to live again and
[567]
we lost the two thousand pesos that we
[569]
paid for the policy
[571]
unfortunately they they gave us the
[574]
deposit back yeah
[576]
but we would have seen them yeah so
[579]
let's keep
[580]
looking for a house let's keep looking
[582]
[Music]
[584]
so we kept looking unfortunately we
[587]
found another house
[588]
right in the center
[591]
[Music]
[593]
[Applause]
[596]
this house is also beautiful it's right
[598]
in the center
[600]
it's big super massive it's fully
[602]
burnished
[603]
two floors as you already saw i think i
[606]
like it
[608]
and then they told me that this costs
[611]
ten thousand
[613]
five hundred dollars
[618]
oh finally it was on the house how do
[621]
you feel
[622]
we lived and it was easier than the
[626]
last house yeah they haven't even asked
[628]
for uh papers or anything
[630]
no we said and some references as well i
[634]
think that's very common
[635]
they are val as well yes but you have
[638]
you could do that and we didn't need to
[640]
pay for the polished apparently
[642]
that's better and it's right in the
[644]
center yeah
[646]
that's an advantage it's a big house as
[648]
you saw
[649]
furnished it's got parking two bedrooms
[653]
all within our 10 000 peso budget
[658]
can you believe that in the last
[662]
year we have lived in how many places
[666]
a lot of places i think we've had about
[668]
eight houses
[670]
really did your content okay hanoi hanoi
[675]
the uk and three so far
[679]
in this house we're gonna live for a
[681]
year yes so
[682]
finally we can unpack our suitcases
[685]
and relax we made this video because a
[687]
lot of people ask us in the comments
[690]

[694]
