TTT Obtaining a Value for Donated Non Cash Goods - YouTube

Channel: unknown

[6]
hey everyone welcome to another text
[9]
Tuesday my name is Alexis Galati I'm the
[11]
owner of cerebral tax advisers and today
[15]
we're gonna be talking about how to
[17]
value those non-cash and donations I'm
[22]
sure many of you this time of year are
[24]
gathering up all your tax information
[26]
and you you know you're not you
[30]
you've got your Goodwill or Salvation
[32]
Army receipts and you're just not sure
[35]
how to value those items that you
[38]
donated well luckily as you see on the
[41]
screen Salvation Army and goodwill have
[43]
really great resources for determining
[46]
how to you know what the fair market
[48]
value of the items you've donated are so
[51]
you go to this you can even just Google
[54]
like Salvation Army valuation guide or
[56]
you know goodwill valuation guide and
[60]
use those and so if you you know like
[64]
air conditioner low 21 high 93 so it
[68]
just depends on the condition if it's
[70]
you know all items are supposed to be in
[71]
good you know condition when donating it
[74]
for the IRS to say yep you know you can
[77]
get a deduction for that it's also
[79]
important to realize that anything that
[81]
has a value over five thousand dollars
[84]
even if it's collective so let's say you
[88]
do a whole bunch of little items to
[91]
Goodwill but you're trying to claim over
[94]
five thousand dollars to Goodwill or for
[98]
all these items then you have to have an
[103]
appraisal done on it so it sounds
[105]
ridiculous but that's those are the
[107]
rules I don't make the rules you have a
[109]
problem with they go to Congress but
[110]
basically you know so it's really
[113]
important that you you know be aware of
[116]
that rule because I have some clients
[118]
who will move across country and they'll
[120]
donate a ton and they'll try
[121]
take really large donations
[125]
contributions and if they have the
[127]
backup for it that's fine but you know
[130]
those valuations are really important
[131]
and so using this guide is really great
[135]
to get an idea of you know what you know
[139]
what the value could be so appliances
[142]
they talk specific about automobiles
[144]
those have special rules clothing
[147]
furniture household goods miscellaneous
[151]
stuff like DVD player cell phones etc so
[153]
this is a really helpful guide for doing
[157]
those valuations and you know if you
[160]
have any questions you know please let
[161]
me know just make sure you're keeping
[163]
those receipts especially if they're
[165]
over two hundred fifty to fifty dollars
[167]
and you know you know let me know what
[171]
is your favorite charity to donate
[176]
non-cash goods to my local one car it's
[181]
do a great job they're always very
[182]
pleasant and helpful so plus they have
[186]
electronic receipts as opposed to paper
[188]
which is awesome it just gets emailed to
[190]
me and I can found a way easily for my
[192]
notes and oh one other thing I want to
[194]
make mention of is take a picture of
[197]
what you're actually donating this is
[198]
really great to save to your to your
[201]
receipts file because it shows IRS like
[205]
look I actually donate this stuff it was
[206]
in good condition like it doesn't have
[208]
to be like you know an amazing picture
[211]
was certainly detailed everything I just
[213]
take a picture of the number of boxes
[215]
I'm sending to to Carm so anyway um let
[220]
me know if you have any questions please
