How to build Investment Portfolio? - Strategies for Beginners ft. @CA Rachana Phadke Ranade - YouTube
Channel: Asset Yogi
[0]
According to you, what is an ideal portfolio?
[2]
What percent should go where
[4]
There is no fixed formula in this
[7]
I found it difficult to tell that I am CA
[9]
After ages, I have talked in Hindi for this long time
[14]
Hello friends, we have brought a different format in this video
[18]
We will try to know a YouTuber's journey
[22]
Many of you may know her
[25]
She talks about the stocks a lot and we will try to know where she invests?
[30]
She talks about the stocks, she talks about personal finance
[33]
I am not talking about anybody else I am talking about Rachana Ranade
[38]
Many people might follow her youtube channel
[41]
And if you don't, then do follow her
[44]
I think I have introduced Rachana already
[46]
I would like to listen from Rachana herself
[49]
Rachana, how will you describe yourself?
[51]
Many things are said in a description that
[55]
I am YouTuber, investor, entrepreneur, teacher
[59]
Out of these, if someone asks the favorite
[63]
Then I like saying teacher very much
[66]
Because I wanted to do it from the very beginning
[69]
So today also, if people say stock market guru
[72]
Many people say that
[74]
I don't know whether I am or not
[76]
If they say she is a very good teacher, then I feel very good
[79]
I still describe myself as a teacher
[82]
Earlier only college students were used to my students
[85]
Now all the age groups are there senior citizens, children, etc
[90]
That's the only thing that has changed
[91]
Everybody's child, but we have grown a little
[95]
We can also say young at heart
[97]
I remember that one of your videos went viral
[101]
I think it has approx 11 to 12 million views
[105]
Was it designed?
[106]
Or you just thought that I have uploaded a video about the stock market
[111]
And you never knew
[112]
That it will be so popular
[114]
Yes absolutely
[115]
I have never thought in my dreams also
[117]
The stock market video, that too
[119]
One and a half-hour video can be viral
[122]
I had never thought of it in my life
[124]
Till then, I had heard about the names like Dhinchak Pooja, that they go viral
[129]
Other than this if something goes viral I had never heard of it
[131]
Many of my friends said that Rachana, you have recorded a lecture, try and upload it on youtube
[138]
Many friends told me to cut the video into pieces and then upload it
[142]
10 or 15 minutes is a viewable time, people can digest it
[146]
I said see, I am not going to spend a penny
[149]
We don't get money from YouTube as I have heard
[152]
Nobody was there to guide me then
[153]
I said I will not spend a penny, I have made a video of 1 and a half hours, I will upload it like that only
[160]
Whoever wants to watch, can watch, and who doesn't wanna watch then don't watch
[162]
How have I used it to my advantage? Did I use any strategy?
[167]
Then for sure, I've used a strategy, I will tell you in short
[171]
At that point of time,
[172]
In 2019 I used to teach CA students
[175]
I used to go to 7 different MBA colleges as visiting faculty
[180]
When I used to go to teach different students there
[183]
Then I used to give homework to the students that you have to watch this lecture in homework
[187]
I've given the homework of watching the lecture and I said
[190]
I will take an internal assessment about the things I have taught in this lecture
[194]
On the same pretext, everybody watched the video
[196]
Students liked the video and said, Ma'am, the lecture was good
[199]
We forwarded it to our friends
[201]
So this story began from the homework.
So I had exposure with the students
[205]
and I took it to my advantage and used a small strategy, which worked
[211]
Great. I too liked this story very much
[215]
The point you have told about one and a half hour
[218]
I was shocked too that how many people watch one and a half hours video
[222]
I think it is good for the whole ecosystem
[226]
When people get serious about any subject
[229]
Then naturally they can watch a long video.
-Sure
[234]
So Rachana we understood your journey as a YouTube and a teacher
[237]
I would like to know something about you as an investor also
[240]
What was your first investment?
[242]
And in which year did you make your first investment?
[244]
It started with FD as my first investment in my life
[248]
I remember at that time I invested in Rupee Bank
[251]
If you remember a few years back there was news about the bankruptcy of Rupee bank
[257]
Back then I had withdrawn a large sum of money
[260]
I was in 11th standard at that time
[261]
Then my mom said Rachana if you are withdrawing the money
[264]
Then why not put some money in FD in some other bank and some money in gold
[268]
So when I was in 11th standard
[271]
My second investment was in gold
[275]
I purchased the gold for 8000 Rs
[277]
And which year you did that?
[280]
It was in 2003
[283]
Even though I didn't invest right out of my mind but
[285]
I invested from my mom's mind
[286]
So it was a good start. Since then I had the craze about the different investment opportunities
[294]
But equity is out of the question
[298]
In everybody's home, there are perspectives
[301]
That stock market is betting
[305]
Especially if you are from a typical middle-class family
[307]
So it was the same for me too that I have to be far from the stock market
[311]
My brother became CA,
[313]
He's 4 and a half years older than me
[315]
Then he started investing in the stock market
[319]
He used to ask me on the call because back then there were no apps
[322]
So that was the first time when we started watching channels like CNBC chest at our home
[327]
So I was in FY at that time proximately
[329]
So my brother used to ask what is the price of this?
[332]
We had to catch it from the script on the TV
[335]
Yes, we found it, that's it tell me its price
[337]
I understood that only about the stock market
[338]
Then gradually CA started, I started to learn some concepts
[343]
What happens? How does it happen? then my interest grew up
[345]
Then someone suggested starting the investment journey
[349]
So 2006 was the year when I started my very first investment
[352]
In the stock market
[353]
There's so much craze means what to do now, the situation was like that
[359]
So I remember I chose Tech Mahindra for my first investment
[363]
I got so excited that I typed Tech Mahindra
[368]
In the dropdown, there were both options Tech Mahindra and Mahindra and Mahindra
[371]
I ended up purchasing Mahindra and Mahindra
[374]
I purchased the wrong shares for my first investment
[379]
Later I thought, oh God what is this?
[382]
That is how my journey started in investing the wrong share which I never intended to
[387]
And after that, a very good and long journey started after 2006
[392]
I think that this happens to everybody, people invest in wrong shares at least once
[397]
In my point of view
[399]
You have to give Guru Dakshina (donation of the guru)in the form of loss
[402]
Absolutely if I open my life's first portfolio
[407]
I laugh so much what level of companies did I choose
[412]
I found it difficult to tell people that I am a CA
[415]
I had chosen this bad company
[417]
Without seeing the balance sheet because there is a senior who we idealize
[422]
And we think that he knows everything, will tell us
[424]
And we will invest in that only
[425]
So Rachana I've heard saying you about FD, stocks, gold
[430]
So I think every investor makes a portfolio
[433]
So according to you what should be the ideal portfolio, what percent should go and where?
[438]
And if you want to share about what percentage do you devote in which asset class?
[443]
If you want to know that what percentage of your portfolio should go in which asset class
[448]
I think for that you have to do an exercise before that
[452]
I call this exercise KYS
[454]
What bank does, the bank do KYC(Know Your Customer or know your client)
[459]
So I say KYS "Know YourSelf"
[460]
Who are you?
[461]
If you don't know who are you
[463]
Then how are you going to choose
[465]
What strategy is better? For example, if I am making a portfolio for my dad
[470]
He is retired so I don't think he should have very big exposure to the equities
[475]
For him income earning strategy
[477]
Is more important
[479]
So his way of making a strategy is different that is based on who he is
[483]
Vis-a-vis if I am making an investment strategy for myself
[488]
Then I can use some value investment strategy
[490]
I can use a growth strategy
[492]
Because today I have that risk potential, me and my husband, we both are working
[496]
We both are earning so that's why I say there is'nt a fixed formula
[501]
It is different for you, different for me, it is different for everyone
[504]
Depending on multiple factors
[506]
As I have said your age, the second thing can be how many people are dependent on me
[511]
Now in my house, there are my in-laws but both are ex-government or semi-government employees
[517]
They get their pension, I earn money, my husband earns money
[520]
So only one person is dependent on me that is my son
[522]
So the number of dependents, for me there is only one so I can take more risks
[526]
Medical condition can also very important thing
[528]
You should see all these parameters based on that you should have your investment strategy
[533]
I have done my own KYS
[536]
In that my portfolio, sorry what can I say
[540]
Category of investor falls into a risk-taking investors
[545]
So I can take risks, this is my category
[549]
That's why
[550]
The major component of my portfolio is equity
[553]
So approximately my 35 to 40 % goes into only equity
[560]
I am not saying the mutual fund
[561]
This is a direct investment into the market
[563]
After that, the percentage-wise
[565]
The second is mutual funds after that bonds
[569]
Because bonds are that asset class in which you can invest
[573]
Where you will get more than FD
[575]
Now how many people know that there is a bond of the government of India
[580]
In which people like me and you can invest into
[582]
And in that, we get almost 6 to 6.5 % interest
[587]
But people don't know about it so they don't invest in it
[589]
A next comes bond for me
[591]
After that many people ask me that Rachana you do so much stock market etc
[596]
Do you believe in FD or not?
[598]
My answer is 100% yes
[600]
Not keeping in FD is also a wrong thing
[602]
When you require the money in a short time
[608]
Then I cannot say I will withdraw the money from the market and take the money
[610]
You'll need FD only, you'll need a recurring deposit
[614]
Whenever you require anything within one year, your emergency fund
[620]
For that, you have to have a fixed deposit, recurring deposit
[624]
Some money can be in the savings account
[625]
So this is the portfolio location
[628]
Starting with the highest equity, mutual funds, bonds of course there is gold too
[633]
Approximately 10% of my portfolio is gold
[636]
Theoretically, it should be there because it acts as a good hedge
[639]
For your stock market, FD is also there in my portfolio, there is no doubt about it
[645]
So you talked about gold, so you purchase the gold
[649]
Or you invest in bars and digital gold
[652]
No no, my majority is in e-gold, other girls say gold jewelry, etc
[660]
You can see that there's nothing on my neck, in my ears, there are only AirPods
[665]
There's nothing in my hands, there is only an engagement ring
[668]
I agree with you Rachana
[671]
Many people say that in FD, the value deteriorates
[674]
And you shouldn't do it
[676]
But I think there should be some portion in FD
[678]
Because whatever your need is in short term,
[680]
It is not necessary that you can withdraw the money from the share market
[684]
I think you have touched upon a very good point here
[686]
So we understood Rachana as a YouTuber and as an investor
[691]
Now we will talk about Rachana as an entrepreneur
[693]
How much do you invest in business Rachana?
[696]
This means you invest some portion in business or not
[698]
As you talked about equity then the business is also equity
[701]
How much do you invest in a business or how much do you invest in stocks?
[705]
Or you have made a formula that I have to invest this much percent in business and this much % in another investment
[711]
When I started a business that time I happened to read a book called Lean Mean investing
[716]
In this, those who haven't read it
[719]
I will tell you, you can do two types of businesses
[722]
One is that in which you can earn very much money
[725]
Ideas should be good for both of them, but your idea is good in one
[729]
And you do fundraising and you burn cash to spend on advertising
[733]
Brand building and you spend very much on your image building
[737]
The second type of business is your idea is good you try to maintain quality
[744]
But you cut down unnecessary expenses
[748]
So by nature, I think that I fit into the second category
[752]
I did not feel the necessity to invest a big amount in my business thankfully
[758]
If I tell you that
[760]
The biggest component in my P/L is salary cost or employee cost
[764]
So whatever expense is out of that the highest amount goes to paying the salary
[768]
If you see my office space
[771]
Then it is a very small space comparatively
[775]
I used to live there earlier
[777]
I have made a set up of studio
[779]
The one where I at preset
[781]
This is the only place, the studio is the only place where I've spent the money
[784]
That's why I believe if the business is performing well back to back 3 to 4 years
[788]
This is where you get clarity
[790]
That we can spend money on show off
[794]
there's no problem
[795]
As far as advertisement is concerned
[797]
I was thinking in the beginning if we will do it or not
[801]
But then I thought that how much will it do by word of the mouth
[804]
Let's track it
[806]
After that, we will think of it if we want to spend money on the advertising
[808]
But then I found out that if you are providing good content
[812]
Then sometimes the word of mouth is enough
[815]
I think you have shared many personal things Rachana with us
[819]
And I felt very good talking to you
[821]
Understanding your whole journey, even though we've met before
[825]
But I did not get a chance to know you this personally before
[828]
But I felt very good talking to you
[830]
Thanks a lot, Mukul, I too enjoyed a lot
[832]
After the ages, I have talked in Hindi for this long time
[836]
I am sorry if my Hindi is not that good
[838]
We don't speak pure Hindi
[840]
The Pune, Bombay side's Hindi is much different
[843]
So I don't know pure Hindi
[845]
But tell your subscribers to adjust a bit
[848]
No, I think you were perfect
[849]
I too don't speak Hindi fully
[852]
We are used to speaking Hinglish
[854]
I think nobody speaks pure Hindi nowadays
[858]
But I think people should be able to understand in the simple language
[861]
Anyways thank you again
[862]
Thank you, Rachana for this wonderful interview
[865]
I think people will like you very much and
[867]
Those who haven't watched Rachana's channel yet
