[0]
I'm back with a new video on Luckin Coffee (鐟炲垢鍜栧暋 $LK $LKNCY).
[3]
And this is due to the fact that many of you viewers have been commenting on my
[7]
previous video that you actually would like to see it still covered! Well,
[11]
as some of my Patreons sent me messages that they want an update on Luckin
[15]
Coffee and this update,
[16]
it's going to be quite special because I'm asking YOU as a viewer to help me
[21]
with Luckin Coffee investor relations, but more on that later. First,
[26]
what a day yesterday, as outlined in my last video,
[29]
I was expecting a big, healthy, correction of the markets.
[33]
And this is what we got! This trading range here of this tunnel, however,
[37]
already more on the upside.
[38]
So I do expect maybe this week already some healthy pullback,
[43]
of the markets.
[44]
So despite all the good news around NIO deliveries and Elon Musk,
[48]
visiting Berlin and other places in Germany - well,
[51]
the stock prices of these stocks tanked,
[54]
and as outlined in my post to my Patreons,
[56]
I was trying something new with this incoming correction that I was
[60]
anticipating:
[61]
And this time I actually went short and try to hedge my portfolio because
[66]
my overall view is that I'm going to stay invested in this market.
[70]
I think this bull market will continue, but this correction was overdue.
[74]
So I went short on some Apple ($APPL) stocks because Apple was running high due
[78]
to the stock split as well as similar to Tesla ($TSLA),
[81]
as well as Apple due to this big market cap.
[84]
It's a quite big company in the index funds. So I thought, okay,
[87]
if the overall market's going to crash, that surely drags down Apple as well.
[91]
And luckily it was quite successful. I made 4X on my money on this hedge.
[95]
And so I made some money on the way downward here.
[98]
If you have some experience on hedging your portfolio,
[101]
I would be interesting to know more about this in the comments below,
[104]
because I'm actually frankly, new to that. Usually I don't short any stocks.
[108]
Personally, I'm just interested in investing long in the markets. However,
[111]
in order to balance my portfolio and have some risk management here,
[115]
like for big down days like yesterday,
[117]
I really like to make some money on these days.
[120]
So yesterday we finally had this correction, the markets went down I think,
[125]
yeah, we saw some buyers coming in.
[127]
So actually I think hopefully it will be bouncing from here.
[130]
I took off my hedges. I completely sold them already. So from here,
[134]
I'm going long into the markets. I'm expecting the bull run to continue.
[138]
And of course now all the people who went short from March and are sitting on
[142]
cash, they are screaming about a possible crash coming. However,
[146]
I think it's more likely that the bull run just continues from here and that
[150]
this just was a healthy corrections in the markets. This, however,
[154]
it's only how I'm personally treating the markets.
[156]
So this is not investment advice, as everything in this video,
[158]
you need to make your own decisions and need to come up with your own ideas
[162]
about trading. Okay. Now finally, back to Luckin Coffee,
[165]
which had a decisive day on September the second, because they had a new,
[170]
extra ordinary shareholder meeting.
[172]
I was writing a blog post on Patreon about this,
[175]
and actually lots of my viewers expressed their interest in covering the story.
[180]
And what I want to do with this video,
[181]
it's not only covering what has happened on this shareholder meeting,
[185]
but also actually asking you to become active!
[188]
Because I think now it is the time to actually confront Luckin Coffee
[193]
with our questions as retail investors, but more on that later,
[197]
because to sum things up,
[198]
what has happened so far is obviously that there has been a fraud happening with
[202]
Luckin Coffee. And then Luckin Coffee got delisted, lots of investors,
[206]
both institutional,
[207]
as well as retail investors got hammered by the fact that Luckin Coffee was
[212]
delisted. And we never really had a response by Luckin Coffee,
[216]
but that might be due to the fact that there has been an ongoing fight
[221]
off who is actually running the company and who has been actually the
[225]
core of this fraud. So let's say I have a quick recap where it ended last time.
[230]
So we had a new CEO Jinyi Guo, who is running the company,
[234]
replacing Jenny Qian,
[236]
as well as the ex COO Jian Liu,
[239]
who was also fired because he was the operating person in charge of this fraud,
[244]
actually.
[245]
And then this is how the board was actually looking back then with Charles Lu
[248]
Zhengyao, who is actually the architect of this fraud.
[251]
And then the other board members some of the early investor and
[257]
we've seen that yeah,
[258]
there was this golden triangle between David Hui Li, Erhai Liu
[264]
and Lu Zhengyao who have previously actually been involved in a other
[269]
venture in which they also committed fraud. And on the operational side,
[272]
we had this operational team who was responsible for the fraud and seemingly
[277]
instructed by Lu Zhengyao. So this is the fraud team at Luckin Coffee.
[281]
And what we've seen in the past is that all of those board and
[285]
advisors, except for mr.
[288]
Wai Yuen Chong have actually been removed or have actually resigned.
[292]
So that has been the last extroardinary shareholder meeting in which Lu Zhengyao
[297]
was actually calling for it and made sure that those kinds of people were
[301]
actually removed or replaced including himself.
[304]
So that was actually his plot twist and his trick of trying to get a grasp of
[309]
the company, because what he also did is that he instilled Jinyi Guo,
[313]
who has been an old friend of Lu Zhengyao and who was the new acting CEO,
[318]
as well as new independent directors that got in voted by the
[322]
committee that are basically shills or actors on the request of Mr. Lu Zhengyao.
[327]
That was actually his plan of going away from this company,
[330]
but at the same time, staying in control of what is happening,
[334]
even though he actually has been removed as a person,
[337]
and he lost lots of his shares due to this margin call and so on. However,
[341]
as outlined in previous videos, I was always hoping for a management clean up,
[346]
so a new start for Luckin Coffee.
[348]
And I find it interesting that actually the CFO and CIO Reinout Hendrik Schakel
[353]
so far seems to be not affected by the fraud.
[357]
Of course you could allege that here must have known of the fraud,
[361]
but so far there are no accusations against him.
[364]
And it seems like he just didn't know about it,
[368]
but this is all speculation. I don't know it for a fact. And in general,
[372]
there has been no news on what is his role in the fraud,
[376]
but so far while he doesn't seem to be affected.
[378]
So what has happened in between? Well,
[380]
we see that the new independent directors that have been put in place by Lu
[384]
Zhengyao have both resigned.
[387]
So there is a cleanup of the board happening.
[389]
And then Luckin Coffee announced actually that they're going to do this meeting
[394]
the Extraordinary Shareholder Meeting (ESM) on the 2nd of September,
[397]
which obviously happened now. And since then, we've seen a couple more changes!
[402]
So, We see that the new independent director,
[406]
Sean Shao who has been previously, already on the board,
[409]
he has been the lead of the internal investigation of Luckin Coffee.
[413]
So he was actually pushing forward cleaning up and investigating the company.
[418]
And he has now been voted back into the board as well as new
[423]
independent directors replacing the shills of Lu Zhengyao.
[427]
And we also see that Jinyi Guo,
[430]
who is still part of the connections of Lu Zhengyao,
[433]
he is not the managing director of Luckkin Coffee, Beijing Ltd. Anymore.
[438]
He still is the managing director off the holding the Luckin Coffee
[443]
China entities. So that is a different entity though. However, we also see that
[449]
Gang Wu as well as Wenbao Cao are now also managing directors of the company!
[454]
So in general, this looks a little bit like a clean up is happening here, right?
[458]
Because we see that important positions that have connections to Lu Zhengyao
[461]
actually being removed.
[464]
So the last man standing that has connections to Lu Zhengyao actually it seems
[467]
to be Jinyi Guo. However,
[469]
here seems to be losing his acting stake as a CEO
[473]
here becoming partly replaced,
[476]
or at least other people are also filling the managing director
[480]
role. And in the middle,
[482]
we still have Mr. Reinout Hendrik Schakel who is signing off all the SEC
[486]
filings. However, we don't know anything new about him,
[489]
even though he is the CFO, he's the CIO.
[492]
And we haven't heard anything about him yet.
[495]
So this is what this video is all about.
[497]
So I still think there may be a slight chance that Reinout Hendrik Schakel is
[501]
actually organizing this clean up in the background here of Luckin Coffee.
[504]
So far, he hasn't been affected, as I mentioned, however,
[508]
he's also not coming out and speaking about it possibly due to the fact that
[513]
ther are investigations going on,
[515]
maybe due to the fact that Lu Zhengyao was still controls partly the board and
[519]
that acting CEO and so on. However,
[522]
for retail investors this long months and weeks of silence have been actually a
[527]
complete disaster because we are actually, you know, in this black box,
[531]
we don't know what's going on to the company. We don't have a actual financials.
[535]
We don't have to investigation report.
[537]
And also the SEC filings are not enough without any public relations of Luckin
[542]
Coffee. So I think this has to change.
[544]
I think Luckin Coffee has finally to come forward and to provide more
[549]
information to investors.
[550]
And what I actually did is I was reaching out to the company that is actually
[555]
running the media relations, as well as to investor relations of Luckin Coffee.
[559]
As you can see with all of those filings and press releases at a bottom of each
[563]
release, you can actually find the investor relation and media contacts.
[567]
And this is run by a company called ICR inc. And yeah,
[572]
if you go to the company website,
[573]
you will see that day supported a couple of US IPOs from
[578]
Asia, including Luckin Coffee.
[580]
And this is a company that is running strategic communications and
[585]
advisory. And to be honest,
[587]
I'm totally not satisfied of how this investor relations has been run,
[592]
especially during the times when Luckin Coffee was actually delisted and,
[596]
you know, everything has been quite chaotic to be honest.
[600]
So reached out to them with the goal of connecting and actually being able to
[604]
talk to investor relations and asked them more details on what is actually going
[609]
on behind the scenes with Luckin Coffee.
[612]
As I didn't get a reply to my emails to the company,
[614]
actually it was digging a little bit deeper and was looking at who is actually
[618]
running the operations here on the China sites for Asia Pacific it's Mr.
[624]
Lococo. And I actually tracked him down on LinkedIn and I wrote him a
[629]
personal message there on LinkedIn,
[631]
and I'm not going to publish my private conversation with him due to privacy
[635]
issues here. However,
[636]
what I can tell you is that he actually denied that he is working with
[641]
Luckin Coffee,
[642]
which I have found to be a blatant lie because I was seeing on his LinkedIn
[646]
page,
[647]
he was actually posting about an event where he invited Mr. Reinout Schakel
[651]
to speak to investors. So that was clearly managed by him and his company!
[656]
In the end this guy even blocked me on LinkedIn when I was confronting him with
[660]
the fact that his company is actually signing off the Luckin Coffee investor
[665]
relations here.
[666]
So the work that they are doing here in my point of view is kind of useless for
[670]
investors like you and I,
[672]
and this is why I think we need to take this issue in our own hands,
[677]
and this is what I'm going to do today!
[679]
So instead of going through this advisory and investor relations firm,
[683]
I will be contacting Luckin Coffee, and to be exact, CFO Reinout Schakel,
[687]
directly. And I want you to be part of that! And in order to do that.
[692]
I prepared a little survey because.
[694]
Want to pool us as retail investors here and asking anonymously,
[699]
like how many shares of Luckin Coffee are you holding right now? So,
[703]
so if you are going to go and do the survey,
[705]
you can enter the amount of shares you're holding for instance, 10,
[709]
and then let me know at whatever average costs in US dollars, you're holding it.
[712]
So say you bought them at 30 US dollars a share,
[715]
and maybe some of those investors are,
[717]
they're already sold some of the shares for instance,
[720]
when Luckin Coffee got delisted.
[722]
So I want to know how many shares have you've been selling so far.
[726]
So for instance,
[727]
you've sold 1000 shares at a price of 4 US dollars a
[732]
share.
[732]
And then I am asking you about what would be your question to the CFO
[738]
and CIO Rainout Schakel. For instance,
[740]
you want to know what are the prospects of
[745]
relisting at NASDAQ?
[748]
So you can write anything that comes up to your mind here and let me know.
[753]
And if there's anything else that I have forgotten with the survey do let me
[757]
know here otherwise you can just send it off and then finish the
[762]
survey here. And I already posted a survey with my Patreons.
[765]
And so far we've got 10 replies.
[767]
So a couple of people have posted like how many shares they are owning and which
[772]
price, and also a couple of questions already to Mr. Reinout Schakel.
[776]
So for instance,
[777]
when is an expected date for disclosing the latest results what are the plans to
[781]
come up with a new cleaned up board of directors and then somewhat questions
[786]
are, when does he expect for Luckin Coffee to get relisted on NASDAQ?
[790]
Any timeframe for the financial update and so on?
[793]
So all of the questions you have basically sent them to me,
[797]
I will be pooling those questions and take the most important ones,
[801]
as well as to information about how many shares we are actually pooling here as
[806]
retail investors. And my idea here is to confront Luckin Coffee,
[811]
and Mr. Reinout Schakel directly with this information.
[814]
I hope he will take it seriously as I'm sure that we can actually find quite a
[819]
significant number of shareholders here and also quite a substantial amount of
[823]
shares being owned here by retail investors.
[826]
And then I will let you know how it goes. Will he reply to it?
[829]
Will he even possibly be able to come on this channel and maybe make
[834]
a quick Zoom video meeting and discuss those questions openly?
[839]
As you know, my channel has been quite fair.
[841]
I am not following the short seller narrative on Luckin Coffee here.
[845]
So there is no better way of actually coming out and
[849]
building up a new trusted investor relation of Luckin Coffee with a broader
[854]
audience, retail investors first, maybe institutional investors second.
[859]
I think this should be the way forward.
[860]
And now with the changes possibly of the board and also under operational staff
[866]
and possibly hopefully a cleanup here happening this should be the
[870]
right time for Mr. Reinout Schakel to finally informe the investors,
[874]
because this has been silenced for too long and I hope now we can
[879]
actually break the silence.
[880]
And what this means for Luckin Coffee and possibly you as a shareholder or for
[885]
other investors. I cannot tell you,
[888]
you need to come up with your own thoughts and views on that.
[891]
What are the prospects of this company in the long run?
[893]
What is actually the value of Luckin Coffee in case that they really
[898]
clean up the management team? Is there a possibility for a new start?
[903]
This is all up to speculation for now. However,
[906]
I hope with this step of actually reaching out to Luckin Coffee,
[909]
to Mr. Reinout Schakel directly to the CFO, to the CIO.
[913]
I hope that he will reply to us and that this could actually be one of the first
[918]
steps into the right directions. So let's see how it goes. And with that,
[923]
I hope you have a good weekend and stay tuned for more content on NIO ($NIO 钄氭潵),
[927]
on Luckin Coffee
[928]
on other Chinese IPOs and companies that have a really big exposure to the
[933]
Chinese market. So thank you guys for watching. See you in the next one ..
[936]
and bye!
