OXY: Institutional Buyers & Sellers of Occidental Petroleum Stock - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[1]
hey everybody this is Rudi for BesterInvestor
[4]
I'm here with your tuesday edition of occidental
[8]
petroleum. It's august 25th and today what we're gonna do is take a
[13]
quick look at the institutional buyers and sellers of occidental
[17]
during the previous quarter
[23]
First we take a look at the summary of occidental
[27]
What I'm going to do here is not spend too much time on the actual
[31]
summary of the stock itself, but I want to really focus in on this little number
[34]
down here. Not the short short interest but
[38]
more the institutional. So, almost 70 of occidental
[42]
is held by institutions. And I thought we should take a look and
[46]
see who these big guys are who are invested in oxy
[49]
because might give you some ideas, not just in terms of who you may
[53]
trust or not trust in terms of entry or exit positions in oxy,
[60]
their trades, but also just to see how they
[63]
actually traded quarter to quarter. Obviously their
[66]
filings are public so it's easy for us to track
[70]
It's also interesting to note that occidental's historical volatility is
[74]
above 100, so the stock has been very volatile. So let's
[77]
take a look and see why.
[81]
Some of these are going to be quite repetitive, so I'm going to go through
[84]
them as quickly as I can. I've got quite a few of them but
[86]
I'm going to kind of whizz through them. Clal
[90]
insurance enterprises reported an almost 9% increase in
[94]
ownership of occidental. We can see in the previous quarter
[101]
they had filed a previous quarter statement where they had about
[106]
1.1 million shares and now they have about 1.2 million shares
[112]
So they've added exactly 100 000 shares to their
[116]
holdings. But the holdings value as you can see has gone from $14 million
[122]
to about $22 million. So if you look at the change in
[124]
shares it's only 8.7% but if you look at the change in value
[130]
it's 61.2% during the second quarter
[135]
nice trade!
[139]
Prudential reported a 16.67% decrease in ownership. So let's take a
[145]
look at this one in a little bit more depth
[148]
they owned 1 million 20,000 shares as at the end
[154]
of June. And in their previous filing they had
[158]
1.224 million, so they sold 200,000 shares
[163]
during the last quarter. So if you look at the change in shares
[167]
they're down 16.67%, but if you look at the change in
[172]
value, they're up 31.67% during the
[176]
second quarter. Nice trade Prudential!
[183]
National Pension Service reported a 7.1% decrease in their holdings of occidental
[190]
They previously had - in the previous quarter -
[194]
1.293... so almost 1.3 million shares and at
[198]
August 11th they had 1.2 million shares. So they sold about
[203]
90,000 shares. Their change in shares as I said is -7.16%, so they've
[210]
decreased their holdings in OXY and increased their value of occidental
[216]
holdings during Q2 by 46%. Nice trade
[222]
National Pension Service. Raymond James shows a decrease for the
[229]
quarter of 37%. If we look at their previous filing from
[234]
the previous quarter they had 1.318 million shares
[239]
which was reduced to just 824,000 shares. But you can see the
[244]
corresponding value, quarter to quarter, is about the same
[251]
So although they had a change in shares of -37.45%
[254]
the actual value of their occidental
[259]
holdings remained relatively flat. They also
[264]
hedge their position by taking some derivatives
[268]
in the underlying security and as of the last filing date
[272]
they which was July 28th raymond james held
[277]
32,500 call options valued at about $7,000
[283]
Interesting trade from Raymond James. The value of the holdings pretty
[287]
much the same, so they're probably just doing some cost basis averaging
[292]
or averaging the weighting of equities in their portfolio
[298]
Principal Financial - I'm nearly done, maybe
[302]
another two after this and that's it - Principal reported a
[306]
22% increase in their ownership of occidental
[309]
they had gone from holding 1.3 million shares to about 1.6 million shares
[315]
so up almost 300 000 shares. This looks like an extraordinary nice
[320]
trade for Principal. They increased their holdings in shares by 22%
[325]
but the increase in value by 93% so almost doubling their
[330]
investors' money in one quarter. Good job Principal Financial
[340]
Alliancebernstein. This is an interesting one for me because i also
[342]
own Alliancebernstein long
[346]
primarily because of the dividend of almost 10 percent
[350]
that you can earn. So Alliancebernstein
[353]
is actually one of my FIRE stocks. FIRE, in case you don't know, is
[357]
Financially Independent Retire Early
[360]
I have another video Alliancebernstein if you look for it you'll find
[363]
it but they reported a 6.8% decrease in
[367]
ownership of occidental and for the quarter, the
[372]
previous quarter they had 1.44 million shares
[377]
and last quarter that had dropped about 100,000 shares to 1.3 million shares
[382]
however the value went from 16.5 million the previous quarter to
[387]
24.5 million this quarter so even though they
[390]
decreased their shares by 7% they increased the value
[394]
of their holdings by 47% during Q2
[400]
good job Alliancebernstein!
[404]
First Trust Advisors shows a 41.48% decrease in ownership of oxy. They had
[412]
2.4 million shares. So down to 1.4 million shares, means they sold
[418]
almost a million shares. However, the value of the holdings
[422]
dropped from $28 million to $26 million, which means
[427]
even though the shares or holdings that they had in shares
[430]
went down by 41.5% the value of
[434]
occidental in their portfolio was only reduced by 7.5%
[438]
Some nice timing on that trade as well
[441]
by First Trust Advisors. Once again, good job so far!
[445]
I don't have any negative comments about any of these
[450]
UBS is the last one here and then I'm going to wrap it up
[454]
UBS showed a 41.5% increase in ownership the previous
[460]
quarter and 1.4 million shares. And then last quarter
[464]
they had 1.988 million shares. So 580,000
[471]
shares that they purchased. They previously disclosed
[476]
$16 million in occidental holdings, up to about $36
[481]
So the change in shares +41%. Let me get my eraser
[486]
because i'm scribbling all over the place
[488]
So the change in shares for the quarter is 41%
[492]
But the change in value 123% during q2. They're also hedging their
[497]
position/ They've got 45,000 call options and
[504]
737,000 put options, respectively valued at just under a
[509]
million and the put options are valued at
[512]
$13.5 million. It'll be interesting to see what happens with
[515]
this trade. The jury's out, because we'll have to see
[519]
what happens when they either exercise that call option
[523]
which is a right to exercise, but you don't have to
[526]
and then exercise the puts. We'll see what happens. Anyway
[534]
I'm going to wrap this up here. What I wanted to share is
[538]
that in addition to the institutional holdings and where they're at
[540]
I wanted to remind you that there's always someone
[544]
on the other side of every trade. So if you think you're really
[548]
smart because you are acquiring more stock in occidental
[552]
just remember that somebody else is selling when you are buying
[556]
And conversely, if you think you're going to exit this position
[560]
I'm getting out of it, it's too risky for me and it
[565]
exceeds my risk tolerance levels and otherwise maybe I just need some cash or
[570]
this is not going to go anywhere... Remember when you're selling there's
[573]
someone else who is buying. So that's it folks. It's Rudi for
[577]
Besterinvestor signing off. Hope you enjoyed this one? It's a quick and short one!
[580]
Stay safe. Keep well. Thanks for watching. See you later, bye!
