local community it made me a bigger

spirit of influence in your charity has

but that cause that drives people to

become involved in charities for us as

trustee to have a sense that you're

making that contribution that that has

to be the best thing about being a

charity trustee the best thing about

being a trustee for me is being able to

look at that objective strategic view

from from a board of being able to see

through the whole organization right

down to the people that you're there

wanting to support and care about and

making sure that they're at the heart of

absolutely everything that the

organization does I think the best thing

about being a trustee is really being

able to contribute to something that you

believe in or something that you want to

work on you can really make a difference

you can really actually have some see in

how an organization develops and what it

takes or and in which that action it

takes you can really contribute to

building something big something

beautiful something that might have a

very positive impact on your community

or on a particular cause if you're

interested in dogs or donkeys or

paddocks or whatever it is you can

actually make a difference you can be a

part of that be a small part of that

without having to give up your whole

life you can actually contribute to

something much bigger than yourself

I know I've made a difference to other

people's lives so I'm a trustee for the

ICAST Foundation and we help people from
[111]
young people and disadvantaged
[112]
backgrounds into careers in finance and
[115]
accounting through bursaries and
[116]
mentoring we started with know young
[122]
people six years ago when I started
[123]
being a trustee and we've now got almost
[125]
a hundred young people at university
[127]
that might not have made it otherwise I
[128]
know by being on the board I've
[131]
contributed to changing those young
[133]
people's lives I think the best thing
[136]
about being a trustee is

meeting other people learning about the
[140]
causes and learning and growing as an
[144]
individual the skills you learned in
[146]
being a trustee can be brought back into
[147]
your day job and enhance your
[149]
employability and your overall awareness

of being a trustee is the best thing

about being a charge the trustee for me

throughout my career working in charity

sector and one organization where I've

worked I've always enjoyed the mission

of that organization by I fail about

often benefited much more when I'm

contributing to another organization's

mission so for example I've been a

trustee on the association's chief
[186]
officer Scottish voluntary organisations

a Cosmo so over the those years working

as a trustee an acausal

I've always often felt like what I'm

gaining and wearing and contributing to
[197]
the work of acausal
[198]
I think has been enormous with
[200]
beneficial to the work of my own
[202]
organization so I think for me the great
[205]
thing about it is it's just expand your
[206]
knowledge and your own interest and just
[209]
been really enthused by the added value
[214]
that Scotland's charities make to our
[217]
society there's many great things about
[220]
being a trustee if I look back on the
[221]
role that I've had not only was it a
[223]
chance to meet new people to help young
[225]
people with the projects and the hopes
[228]
and desires they had for the future but
[231]
just a thoroughly interesting thing to
[233]
do outside of work that just allows you
[236]
to expand your knowledge of the charity
[239]
sector and to find a way that you can
[241]
use your skills to help others
