Top 5 Products the US Imports from China - YouTube

Channel: China Matters

[1]
The Trump administration has repeatedly complained about China’s $375 billion trade surplus
[7]
with the United States, but what does the US actually import for China and how will
[12]
tariffs affect American Consumers?
[14]
We wanted to find out more, so today we are talking about the top 5 product groups and
[20]
some of the top products the US imports from China.
[24]
Let’s get started with number 5: vehicles.
[27]
The US imported over $14.5 billion worth of Chinese goods from this product group in 2017.
[34]
Some of the products in the group include tires for vehicles, vehicle parts for repair,
[39]
vehicle breaks, and cars.
[41]
This means that if the US imposes tariffs on these types of imports, US consumers will
[46]
have to pay more to get around.
[48]
The average cost of repairs, maintenance and tires is $99 a month for a new car, according
[54]
to AAA and even more if your car is older than 3 years.
[58]
This means your monthly average could increase if tariffs are levied on China and I know
[63]
most of us can’t afford more car costs!
[67]
Moving on to number 4 on our list is Plastics.
[71]
The US imported over $16 billion worth of Chinese goods from this product group in 2017.
[77]
We know how bad plastics can be for the environment, but if the US stops importing plastics from
[82]
China, both countries will suffer.
[85]
Think about all the things you buy each day that includes plastics, now imagine having
[90]
to pay more money every signal day on those products!
[93]
This is what will happen if the US imposes tariffs, I hope you are ready to pay more
[97]
for everything!
[100]
If you thought having to pay more for your car maintenance and groceries was bad, well
[104]
get ready for more expenses!
[106]
Because number 3 on our list is toys, games and sporting goods.
[110]
That’s right you kids are not going to be able to play football, baseball, or basketball
[115]
because you won’t be able to afford the equipment.
[118]
The US imported over $25.5 billion worth of Chinese goods from this product group in 2017.
[124]
And forget about them playing inside because this product group also includes things like
[129]
video games, board games and dolls.
[132]
Oh, and one more thing, Christmas just became more expensive too, because Christmas ornaments
[138]
and nativity scenes are included in this group along with ice skates and skis.
[142]
You can soon thank the Trump administration for ruining Christmas!
[148]
I would tell you to go to bed and think about how a trade war might affect you, but you
[153]
won’t be able to afford a bed soon because number 2 on our list is furniture, bedding,
[157]
and other household items.
[159]
The US imported over $31.9 billion worth of Chinese goods from this product group in 2017.
[165]
This group includes things like lighting, bedding, furniture including bed, couches,
[171]
chairs and “Wooden furniture of a kind used in the bedroom” whatever that means!
[178]
I would tell you to call your congressperson and tell them to stop this trade dispute,
[181]
but you might not be able to do that because the number one import for China is Electrical
[187]
Equipment and Machinery.
[188]
These are actually two groups, but we lumped them together for this list, because many
[192]
of the product overlap.
[193]
The US imported over $256 billion worth of Chinese goods from these two product groups
[199]
in 2017.
[201]
With telephones and cellular network equipment making up $71.7 billion of the total.
[208]
Other electronic equipment included integrated circuits, which are pretty much in everything,
[213]
monitors & projectors, digital cameras, speakers and more.
[217]
Basically, all of the modern technology we take for granted in the US is imported from
[221]
China and unless you are willing to pay more for everything in your life from cars to beds
[226]
and phones to toys, it would be a good time call your house representatives while you
[230]
still can.
[231]
So, there you have it, the top 5 product groups and some of the top products the US imports
[237]
from China.
