Limb-itless: Pilot Born Without Arms Defies All Odds - YouTube
Channel: truly
[3]
I didn't see my not having arms as being
[8]
a limitation
[18]
Jessica Cox was born without arms due to
[21]
a rare non-genetic birth defect but this
[23]
hasn't held her back from driving a car
[26]
gaining a black belt in Taekwondo
[29]
playing the piano scuba diving and
[33]
becoming the world's first licensed
[36]
armless pilot naturally people saw the
[39]
fact that I didn't have arms as a
[41]
limiting factor but I was there to prove
[45]
them wrong
[45]
now she travels the world as a
[47]
motivational speaker with her husband
[50]
Patrick I describe Jessica in three
[53]
words it would be kind positive and
[58]
unstoppable even as a child having no
[63]
arms proved no obstacle to Jessica as a
[67]
young little girl I was in just about
[71]
everything at 3 my mom had me in
[74]
gymnastics at 6
[77]
I started tap dance lessons 10 I started
[81]
Taekwondo I did modeling I swam at
[84]
starting at the age of 5 I did every
[87]
activity you can imagine she tried
[91]
wearing prosthetic arms from the ages of
[93]
3 to 14 but hasn't used them since
[96]
there's nothing that can substitute the
[99]
tactile ability of flesh and bone and my
[103]
feet have the tactile ability to feel
[105]
whether something was hot or smooth or
[107]
rough and it was just a lot easier to be
[111]
able to make those connections with the
[113]
feeling my feet provided despite her
[118]
adventurous spirit she'd always been
[120]
afraid of flying until she had a
[122]
life-changing experience
[124]
one day a fighter pilot came up to me
[127]
and he asked if I wanted to fly in a
[130]
single-engine airplane that idea wasn't
[133]
something that I was too enthusiastic
[136]
about but he encouraged me my dad
[139]
encouraged me and I gathered up my
[141]
courage I was sitting right beside the
[143]
pilot and he asked if I wanted to
[145]
experience putting my foot up on the
[146]
yoke when I did and I had a feel for
[149]
what it was like to handle that airplane
[151]
I knew I wanted to come a pilot however
[155]
there were a number of challenges to
[157]
overcome who would teach me what type of
[160]
airplane was this realistic with this
[163]
he's safe of course the safe and
[165]
realistic part I didn't even consider
[167]
because I knew if I want to become a
[169]
pilot I was going to do everything I
[170]
could I had to find an airplane that had
[173]
less controls in the average so the
[175]
ercoupe airplane which is in 1945 has
[179]
two less rudder pedals on the floor that
[181]
way I could have my right foot on the
[182]
yoke and left foot on the throttle and
[184]
crisscross fly the airplane safely the
[187]
airplane was not customized in any way
[189]
for me in 2008 her determination paid
[193]
off when she became the first licensed
[195]
armless pilot in the world three years
[198]
three different airplanes three
[200]
different flight instructors 80 hours of
[203]
flying in three different states I was a
[205]
certified pilot was a long ordeal five
[211]
years ago the 32 year old met husband
[214]
Patrick Chamberlain through their mutual
[216]
love of Taekwondo I remember looking
[219]
across the room and seeing him with this
[223]
confused look on his face he later told
[226]
me it's because he thought I had arms
[228]
and they were in my sweater Patrick and
[231]
I work as a team but he loves to cook
[234]
but I do the dishes we balance each
[236]
other out in different ways
[239]
in you good-morning together
[243]
they promote Jessica's motivational
[245]
speaking which he hopes will inspire
[247]
others to overcome obstacles as she has
[250]
there's something you want to do don't
[252]
let anything stop with that you must be
[254]
persistent think about the last time you
[257]
said I had Patrick and I work together
[261]
to be able to motivate people he has a
[264]
very crucial part of my presentation I
[268]
get to be the one in the spotlight and
[270]
in front of everyone but it would not
[272]
happen if Patrick wasn't back there
[275]
eliminating the challenges as a media
[277]
tech and all-around manager we have some
[282]
very interesting adventures on our
[284]
travels it's a constant adventure and
[291]
it's a lot of fun and while children may
[293]
be in their future for now they plan to
[296]
continue inspiring others if we did have
[299]
a child without arms we wouldn't
[301]
hesitate because I've been able to live
[303]
my life just fine without arms as far as
[306]
we know it's not a genetic condition we
[308]
have many years to spend together and
[312]
start a family we've been talking about
[315]
continuing to travel the world and bring
[317]
the motivational speaking to other
[319]
countries and help change some attitudes
[322]
about disability
[327]
