to you about what is an HRA it's called聽聽

a Health Reimbursement Arrangement or a Health聽
Reimbursement Agreement or whatever you want to聽聽

call it it is another type of benefit plan under聽
ERISA the Employee Retirement Income Security Act聽聽

and it's kind of an unusual plan if聽
you have a little company you can聽聽

set it up ideally you have employees and and and聽
and they use it you can use it for an individual聽聽

owned company one owner one employee it gets聽
a little snakier if you do that but it can be聽聽

done this isn't as easy to set up as an HSA health聽
savings account but you can use it the advantage聽聽

is you can put as much money as you want into it聽
so you put money in two thousand five thousand聽聽

whatever it is ten thousand this year the only聽
restriction is is it's supposed to be reasonable聽聽

to meet medical needs well I mean if you break聽
your leg today it can be six million dollars right聽聽

so what's reasonable to meet medical needs the聽
catch is when you put the money in from the聽聽

company and you do have to include employees聽
you have to include employees in the HSAs too聽聽

and all pretty much all of the benefit plans聽
and all of the retirement plans under ERISA聽聽

there are restrictions to to prevent聽
you from just providing it to you聽聽

and not providing it to the employees so most聽
of you don't have a lot of employees though聽聽

you put the money in the company gets a tax聽
deduction that money sits in the account聽聽

and you reimburse yourself for health related聽
expenses just like you would at an HSA except聽聽

in this case we do not need an insurance聽
company to manage this money the company聽聽

sets up their general checking account and then聽
they have another checking account that we call聽聽

the HRA accounts in the same bank you move聽
money from general checking over to HRA checking聽聽

how much money there's no limit basically you聽
move it over the company gets a deduction for it聽聽

it goes into the account and you can use it聽
to reimburse yourself for health qualified聽聽

health related expenses that's basically anything聽
that's not an over-the-counter it's the eyeglasses聽聽

it's the dentist it's all the medical stuff that聽
you'd normally think of the prescriptions and the聽聽

insurance premiums we forgot to tell you that in聽
the HSA the insurance premiums are also included聽聽

so it's a way of providing health care insurance聽
and health care reimbursement what it does is it聽聽

makes all of your health care stuff not tax聽
deductible but tax free it comes out of the聽聽

company the company gets a deduction over into the聽
HRA account you reimburse out of the HRA account聽聽

but that comes to you there's no 1099 W-2聽
nothing it just comes to you as a reimbursement聽聽

if the account is ever audited you need all the聽
receipts to explain why we paid money out of聽聽

the HRA account this is similar to an HSA in that聽
it's not a 125 there's no use it or lose it rules聽聽

if you build money up in the account it stays in聽
the account and the company you can continue to聽聽

claim against that money until it's all聽
gone but you can actually build money聽聽

in the account you can invest the money in聽
the account it grows in the account tax-free聽聽

and you get to control it you get to get it back聽
at any time for health-related expenses tax-free聽聽

now if you ever terminate the plan the money聽
in the plan will come to the then participating聽聽

employees there's no vesting in this when聽
the employee leaves they don't have a claim聽聽

against the money that's been put away for them

so I can keep the plan going and after I聽
close my little company down I won't actually聽聽

physically close it down but when I retire聽
all employees in my company they go bye-bye聽聽

the account is still there though they didn't聽
take their money with them so you can use this聽聽

account for health-related expenses in your聽
old age long-term care all sorts of stuff聽聽

or you could terminate the plan and the money in聽
the plan comes to the then participating employees聽聽

as income you have to pay income tax on it聽
but you got to pay income tax on your 401k聽聽

money and all that stuff when you get it back to聽
your standard IRAs so it really isn't a bad deal聽聽

guys and you can spend this money for health聽
related stuff tax free the HRA is a really聽聽

cool plan if you can qualify for it it it it's聽
really neat guys so don't forget about the HRA聽聽

not as many a pretty much anybody can any little聽
business can qualify for an HSA and the insurance聽聽

company is going to set it up for them the聽
HRA more complicated you've got to set it up聽聽

and I have a kit that teaches you how to聽
set it up I'm sure you're stunned about that聽聽

but you can set it up the company can operate it聽
you don't need third parties there's no tax return聽聽

that the HRA files every year like there is a 401k聽
they have to file a tax return but there's no tax聽聽

return there's no nothing basically there's聽
an independent banking account that sits here聽聽
