Use our Building Quotation and Price Checking Software - YouTube
Channel: DIY Doctor
[9]
Hi I'm MIke Edwards from the Website www.DIYDoctor.org.uk
[14]
We are making a series of videos
[16]
about a new solutions to the problem of
cowboy builders
[21]
our solution is called the Home Improvement Protection solution or HIPS
[26]
for short
[27]
and there are five videos in
the series detailing
[32]
all five parts of our solution
[35]
the final part is the one that we're
going to talk about this morning and
[38]
that is Price Doctor
[41]
price doctor has been worked on
for a couple of years
[46]
by many tradesmen,
[48]
structural engineers, Quantity Surveyors
[52]
and computer programmers to put together
a very simple piece of web based
[56]
software - no downloads involved.
[58]
You simply go on the web and access the
Price Doctor
[62]
software
[63]
and that will allow you to compile
[66]
a building quote
[67]
for an extension with many new apps coming such as loft
[71]
conversions and plastering
[74]
but at the moment is for an extension. It will allow you to
[78]
click through a simple sets of screens
all image based
[83]
for you to be able to quote for an
extension long before your builder
[87]
gives you any kind of estimate. So you should know
[91]
before the builder how much your
extension costs are likely to be.
[95]
You can edit those costs, you can add and subtract windows and
[100]
doors, solar panels, walls and so on.
You can get the extension within the
[105]
budget you would like
[107]
and produce a shopping list of materials and
[111]
find out how the labour costs are
broken down, to allow you to negotiate with your builder
[118]
It is a very complex and advanced
piece of software
[122]
but designed specifically to be easy to use
very easily and simply by clicking on
[128]
images.
[129]
You'll see a run through of the
images in a moment.
[133]
We hope that you use the Home Improvement Protection Solution from start to
[138]
finish including all of the parts. Use us to find your tradesman. Use our
[143]
contract to work with them
[145]
Use our notes to find out the questions
that you should ask your contractor and what
[149]
you should expect for them and of course
[151]
use our Third Party Money plan system to keep your money safe
[156]
and of course Price Doctor
[158]
to allow you to know exactly how much
your bill should cost.
[162]
So, we can see that Price Doctor is placed
on a series of screens with simple
[166]
images that ask us
[168]
to input your information
[171]
in order to price the extension that we
would like
[174]
On the screen the size of
the extension is put in quite
[178]
easily and this is a simple
rectangular extension. There are standard
[183]
template shapes that we can use
[185]
for example a 10 meter by 5 meter extension.
[190]
Enter the brick or stone we would like it built from,
[194]
the number of rooms that we want,
[197]
how big those rooms need to be
[200]
and how big our cavity is going to be -
this is an important part in the design
[204]
process
[206]
How we would like that cavity
insulated whether we'd like it
[210]
partially filled
[212]
or fully filled.
[214]
We simply move on through this
series of images. What type of floor
[218]
would we like?
[220]
What type of roof would we like
and would we like it hand built
[224]
or would we like roof trusses?
[226]
Would we like slate tiles, concrete tiles or
[230]
Pan tiles?
[232]
Move through a series of images - in this case would we
[236]
like storage in a loft
[238]
Would we like solar panels
[241]
What sort of Guttering would we like
[243]
How would we like to deal with our rainwater? Should we connect it to a rainwater
[247]
harvesting system. That's very green.
[250]
How will we deal with mains drainage? Let's connect that to
[255]
a mains sewer line, and the
[259]
connection is going to be five meters
away from my house for example.
[264]
Patio door - let's have a patio door
and let's have a PVC door toward the front
[272]
and let's pick 4 windows of that
particular type
[277]
and as you can see we can just move
through these
[280]
screens very very easily
[285]
to get the result that we would like
[287]
No I don't have any windows which need
bricking up
[290]
I would like a 2 meter knock-through from my existing
[294]
property to the new extension
[296]
Do we need a new boiler? In this
case I don't think we do
[301]
How many sockets do we want - lets have 12 sockets
[305]
it's a very
[307]
simple process, one
[309]
where you are in complete control
designing your extension
[314]
even down to the skirting boards, the carpet the radiators
[318]
paint or wall paper? Underfloor heating,
[322]
hardwood floors, laminate floors
[325]
there are so many choices and you can
design the
[331]
extension that you would like
[335]
just by inputting these values.
[338]
Next we get a results page, which tells us
how much our extension is going to cost,
[343]
It will break down Labour costs of our extension
[348]
and it will allso break down
[351]
the material costs
[352]
All of the materials that we need
[355]
to build an extension
[357]
A very complex system, but easy to use
piece of software
[361]
called Price Doctor
[363]
It will help you
[366]
empower you to negotiate with your builder
[368]
and to get the cost of your extension
[371]
before builders turn up.
