Why The Philippines is a Business Outsourcing Giant - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
Outsourcing in today鈥檚 modern world has become聽
one of the leading changes in the competitive聽聽
[4]
business landscape. It has enabled companies聽
to increase their profit by placing employment聽聽
[10]
in more affordable nations. And has led these聽
firms to focus on what matters more to them.聽聽
[16]
These have then given a massive opportunity for聽
the receiving country, as these conglomerates聽聽
[21]
pour out billions upon billions of dollars.聽
It has pushed an alternative type of industry,聽聽
[26]
employing hundreds or even billions of people,聽
either directly or indirectly through these types聽聽
[32]
of schemes. One of the biggest beneficiaries聽
of this emerging industry, however, is located聽聽
[37]
all the way in Southeast Asia. Yes, this is聽
the Philippines, and it has been one of the聽聽
[43]
countries that have profited from the rise of聽
the world鈥檚 business process outsourcing sector.聽聽
[48]
Its information technology industry has become聽
one of the fastest-growing in the country because聽聽
[53]
of this rise. It is today, well known that they聽
provide some of the best software development,聽聽
[59]
animation, engineering design, game development,聽
medical transcription, and most famously known聽聽
[66]
as its call center. This industry alone has聽
employed well over 1.3 million Filipino鈥檚聽聽
[73]
and is expected to generate a sum of over $29聽
billion dollars by the end of 2022. So, why is聽聽
[79]
the Philippines such a big outsourcing giant? And聽
will they continue to capture this large market in聽聽
[85]
the future to come? Before we move on don鈥檛 forget聽
to leave us a like and follow for more videos!聽聽
[91]
In the year 2010, the country of the Philippines聽
has been awarded as the BPO capital of the world.聽聽
[97]
It has positioned the nation to be one of the聽
top outsourcing destinations. From the year聽聽
[102]
of its inception in 1992 all the way to 2021,聽
the industry experienced exponential growth.聽聽
[110]
What led to this surge in demand for jobs in聽
the Philippines lies in various aspects. The聽聽
[116]
most common factor is because of the聽
country鈥檚 young population. In 2020,聽聽
[121]
it is estimated that the median age is only聽
at 24.1, way below the rest of the world. This聽聽
[127]
then gave the young population to learn all of聽
these technologies early on. English literacy is聽聽
[133]
its other characteristic, the Philippines is聽
the 4th biggest English-speaking population.聽聽
[139]
Moreover, it has one of the easiest understood聽
accents around. And finally, the government鈥檚聽聽
[145]
push for a more techy population and the country聽
has also helped them to take the BPO opportunity.聽聽
[152]
Such policies enacted in the past and the聽
ones in the coming future will be crucial to聽聽
[157]
the very health of the IT-BPO sector. The biggest聽
amongst all these is the contact center, given the聽聽
[164]
country鈥檚 English-speaking population. Followed聽
by roles in Software development, Animation,聽聽
[170]
and Transcription. In the coming future,聽
however, these will all change. Low-skilled jobs聽聽
[176]
are expected to decline by as much as 29% while聽
mid-skill and high-level jobs grow by 12% and 19%,聽聽
[184]
respectively. This indicates that reskilling and聽
improvement will be the future鈥檚 battlegrounds.聽聽
[191]
These have all directly employed 1.3聽
million Filipino's giving the citizens聽聽
[196]
huge employment. But its biggest effect is how it聽
indirectly contributes to the Philippine economy.聽聽
[203]
According to the IBPAP, the entire sector gave way聽
to 4.08 indirect jobs through various industries!聽聽
[211]
They have also contributed to the growing rise聽
of land value of the Philippines, as the sector聽聽
[216]
continues to become a leading force in demand聽
for office spaces. The challenges, however,聽聽
[222]
are also quite threatening. The emergence of the聽
fourth industrial revolution or more specifically聽聽
[228]
the so-called artificial intelligence or AI poses聽
quite a danger to the country鈥檚 biggest industry,聽聽
[234]
call center. As this form of digital automation聽
grows, there will be an inevitable job loss in聽聽
[240]
that sector as technology will play the role聽
of a call agent and even more so that in the聽聽
[246]
near future, experts are predicting that this聽
job will be taken entirely by AI. Furthermore,聽聽
[253]
the digital revolution has also brought disruption聽
from cyber attacks to the country. These聽聽
[260]
challenges are in our opinion aren鈥檛 something the聽
country should be afraid of. Rather, it should be聽聽
[264]
taken as an opportunity. The growing industry of聽
AI might mean that the call center is in danger聽聽
[270]
but it could also give the country a push to have聽
better solutions that can鈥檛 be replaced by AI.聽聽
[276]
It is no doubt that there will be a massive聽
change in the future鈥檚 outsourcing world,聽聽
[281]
there will be a variety of job transformations聽
to come. But the Philippines is in a position聽聽
[287]
to ride the transformation because聽
of its IT-support education system聽聽
[292]
and tech-oriented individuals which will聽
enable them to thrive in the IT-BPO world.
