Sen. Marsha Blackburn: 'Infrastructure bill is a gateway to socialism' - YouTube

[0]
welcome back into wake up i'm rob
[2]
finnerty the senate is moving quickly
[3]
toward a final vote on president biden's
[5]
one trillion dollar infrastructure bill
[7]
that we've been talking about for
[8]
several months now
[9]
it only allocates around 550 million
[11]
dollars to actual
[12]
infrastructure things like roads bridges
[15]
tunnels it's about nine percent of the
[16]
total bill
[17]
joining us now for more on this is
[19]
tennessee senator marcia blackburn
[20]
senator
[21]
good morning this bill 18 republicans it
[24]
seemed like
[24]
could vote for it uh when do you think
[26]
we'll see a vote on this bill and what
[28]
do you make of this is this the right
[30]
thing for the american people
[33]
well when i look at this bill what i see
[36]
is a gateway to socialism
[38]
this is something that the democrats are
[40]
trying to use to pave the way for
[42]
bernie's budget
[44]
which is going to come later in the week
[46]
and that is
[47]
the 3.5 trillion dollar bill
[50]
and i know some of my colleagues have
[52]
worked very hard to try to create
[54]
a bipartisan product we all wanted to
[58]
get something on
[59]
infrastructure that we could support but
[61]
when you look at 110
[63]
million dollars being used for roads and
[67]
bridges
[68]
and runways rivers railways
[72]
and 65 billion dollars that is used
[76]
for broadband this is not something that
[79]
i can support
[80]
you've got 161 billion dollars
[83]
in new fees which that equates to taxes
[87]
right through fees that are in this bill
[90]
you have a 256
[92]
billion dollar deficit in this bill it
[96]
is not paid for
[98]
so the burden to pay for this is going
[101]
to come
[102]
with taxes in bernie's budget
[105]
and then it's going to be shoved off to
[107]
our children and grandchildren
[109]
so in my opinion it's not enough about
[112]
infrastructure
[114]
the bill is too expensive it is the
[116]
gateway for socialism
[119]
it's a down payment on the green new
[121]
deal
[122]
unbelievable nine percent of this bill
[125]
goes to actual
[126]
infrastructure yet this is being billed
[128]
as an infrastructure bill
[130]
when do you think we see a vote i think
[133]
you'll see a vote tomorrow
[135]
and they're really quite anxious
[138]
and i i have to give a shout out to my
[141]
colleague bill
[142]
hagerty because he put
[145]
enacted the filibuster he is exercising
[148]
his right to the filibuster
[150]
on the final vote on this bill and some
[153]
of the other of us that are on the
[155]
conservative side
[156]
cruz lee and i had all filed amendments
[160]
i had 30 amendments that i filed
[163]
to the bill one of them rob was to take
[165]
a billion dollars out of the 20 billion
[168]
going to amtrak
[169]
and use it to build the wall on the
[172]
southern border
[173]
another was to put in place restarting
[176]
the keystone pipeline
[177]
those are infrastructure projects that
[180]
are ready to go
[181]
so let's fund them i like that idea
[184]
you know senator they say and bill
[185]
hagerty is the as your fellow senator in
[187]
the state of tennessee um
[189]
who's been on the program here but i i
[191]
like that because those are what they
[192]
call shovel ready we know the wall is
[194]
shovel ready right now as they say
[195]
um senate minority leader mitch
[197]
mcconnell was on
[198]
over the weekend talking about this bill
[201]
and maybe some of the merits of the bill
[203]
take a listen
[205]
this isn't exactly the bill i would have
[207]
written on my own
[208]
in my office and 99 of my colleagues
[212]
would say the very same thing this is a
[216]
compromised product
[217]
crafted by colleagues with big
[220]
principled
[220]
differences in a senate with the
[223]
narrowest
[224]
possible split but in my view
[227]
what our early statesman called internal
[230]
improvement is a core government
[234]
responsibility
[237]
okay so the senator doesn't sound
[239]
exactly thrilled about the bill but
[241]
the word bipartisan is something we
[243]
don't hear a lot of um
[244]
do you think this bill actually it
[246]
passes it goes to the house and this
[248]
thing becomes law
[250]
what you're going to see is the bill is
[253]
probably going to pass out of the senate
[255]
like i said some of us have worked
[257]
to get rid of some of the worst parts
[261]
of this bill but bear in mind the house
[264]
is going to make this legislation worse
[267]
when it comes back to us
[269]
for a final vote you're going to see a
[272]
product
[272]
that is even worse than what this is
[276]
and what the house is going to do is try
[278]
to wrap this
[279]
into bernie's budget now rob look at
[282]
what they've already spent
[284]
1.9 trillion dollars that they have put
[288]
out on covet funding then you've got
[291]
this
[291]
infrastructure bill the price tag is at
[293]
1.2
[295]
and then bernie's budget they are saying
[297]
is it 3.5
[299]
but what we're hearing is it's actually
[302]
going to be closer to
[304]
5. my goodness so let's just say 7
[307]
trillion dollars
[309]
that is what they're going to spend in
[311]
joe biden's first
[313]
six months in in office
[316]
and what they are seeking to do is put
[319]
us
[319]
on this path to socialism so that our
[323]
kids and grandkids
[324]
are going to lose their opportunity to
[327]
exercise the american dream to live out
[330]
their hopes and their dreams
[332]
i'm going to fight this every step of
[335]
the way
[335]
keep us posted senator we appreciate the
[337]
work you do on the hill thank you so
