DipFA vs DipPFS - YouTube

Channel: unknown

[0]
in this video i'll be covering the
[1]
differences between the two main diploma
[3]
qualifications
[4]
dipfer and dip pfs
[10]
so firstly what is dipfer
[16]
dipfer stands for the diploma for
[17]
financial advisors and is a
[19]
qualification we have covered here at
[20]
premiere job uk
[21]
both in our blog and our youtube channel
[24]
the links to both will be in the
[25]
description box below for you to be able
[27]
to check out
[28]
and i'd recommend reviewing these
[30]
because they go into more depth about
[32]
the qualifications specifically
[34]
as we've created content on um a guide
[36]
to differ
[37]
and how to revise for dipfer and so they
[40]
can be really helpful if you are
[42]
interested in learning more about it
[44]
but in a nutshell dipfer is a level 4
[47]
fca approved qualification
[49]
required to provide professional advice
[50]
on retail investments and is broken down
[52]
into two units
[54]
so first you've got unit 1 which
[56]
commonly is known as the financial
[58]
services
[58]
regulations and ethics or abbreviated to
[61]
fsre
[63]
it's a two-hour objective exam
[65]
comprising of 90 multiple choice
[66]
questions
[68]
with then two case studies at the end
[69]
which also have five multiple choice
[71]
questions
[73]
then you move on to unit two which is
[75]
called the advanced financial advice
[77]
or abbreviated to afa and that consists
[80]
of two parts itself
[82]
a coursework and a written exam for the
[85]
coursework there's a main
[86]
written assignment and short answer
[88]
questions and then the second part
[91]
is a three-hour written exam based on a
[94]
pre-release fact find
[95]
which is made available six weeks prior
[97]
to the exam being sat
[100]
in terms of the cost of dipfer it costs
[102]
1090 pounds with due to support
[105]
or 990 pounds without tutor support
[108]
through the libf
[110]
and this price includes study materials
[112]
exam and exam entry
[114]
if you need to reset defer or
[118]
resubmit there will be additional costs
[120]
incurred
[122]
there are many benefits to undertaking
[124]
the dip for qualification
[126]
and to name a few these include the libf
[129]
allowing you to study at your own pace
[131]
online you also have various study
[134]
options
[135]
so that you can pick the right one
[136]
that's based on your preferred learning
[138]
style
[140]
then also by undertaking the exam and
[142]
preparing for it
[143]
you'll be enrolled into student
[145]
membership for one year which includes
[147]
multiple benefits
[148]
such as career support guidance access
[152]
to events and webinars from industry
[153]
leaders
[154]
and also being part of the libf
[156]
community and then the final aspect is
[158]
if you successfully complete your dipfer
[161]
you'll be able to use the dipfer
[162]
designation after your name
[164]
to really show off that you have
[166]
achieved that excellent qualification
[168]
that is widely recognized within the
[170]
industry the second main diploma
[172]
qualification is the dip pfs
[178]
so in order for you to obtain the dip
[179]
pfs you need to undertake a number of
[181]
different unit modules
[182]
that total 140 credits to give you the
[185]
status of
[186]
dip pfs now these unit modules are made
[189]
available through the cii
[191]
through their personal finance
[192]
qualifications framework and they offer
[195]
37 different unit modules in total for
[197]
you to select from and those do include
[199]
unit modules from the diploma in
[201]
regulated financial planning
[202]
and the advanced diploma units as well
[205]
so in terms of the
[206]
cost of obtaining pfs it can vary
[209]
widely in terms of which unit modules
[211]
you take
[212]
but this typically costs around 1 109
[215]
pounds
[216]
to 1 512 pounds again depending on the
[219]
modules you take and also whether you're
[221]
a member or not
[222]
this is something we covered in a
[224]
previous blog in terms of the different
[226]
routes to become a qualified financial
[228]
advisor
[229]
so check the description box below
[231]
because there'll be a link to that for
[233]
you
[233]
much like the dipfer there are varied
[236]
benefits of studying a dip pfs and to
[238]
name a few these include the fact it's
[240]
got a very flexible
[241]
uh approach through selecting the
[243]
different modules by selecting the
[245]
modules you'll typically
[246]
revise and sit an exam at a time now
[249]
obviously you can
[250]
undertake more at the same time but most
[253]
commonly people do it
[254]
consecutively and so undertaking each
[258]
exam
[259]
gives you a real focus on that topic
[262]
and once you then pass that exam you
[263]
move on to the next one you study for
[265]
that you move on to the next one
[267]
so it can really help people who
[268]
struggle to
[270]
absorb a lot of information in one go
[272]
also in terms of if you are successful
[274]
in obtaining the
[275]
pfs qualification much like the dipfer
[279]
you can use that designation on this one
[281]
you'll use the dip pfs designation after
[283]
your name
[284]
to demonstrate the knowledge you've
[286]
obtained the technical capability
[288]
and also your ongoing commitment to
[290]
professional development
[292]
not only with the pfs have you got the
[294]
designation of those
[296]
letters but also through their mutual
[300]
recognition agreement with the european
[302]
financial planning association
[304]
you'll also be able to use the efa
[306]
designation
[307]
if you desire also another benefit of
[310]
studying through the cii
[311]
for the dip pfs is you'll have access to
[313]
the cii's
[314]
wide library of resources
[318]
financial planning publications reports
[321]
and documents that really can help you
[323]
in your study for your exams
[324]
but also your wider awareness of the
[326]
financial planning industry
[328]
what is the difference between dipfer
[329]
and dip pfs
[334]
so in the long term there are no
[336]
differences between the
[338]
two qualifications that would make one
[340]
more recommended
[341]
as a general rule of thumb over the
[343]
other
[344]
ultimately they get you to the same
[346]
destination which is becoming diploma
[348]
qualified
[349]
which is the right step in your career
[351]
should you want to become a financial
[352]
advisor
[353]
or a qualified power planner as we
[355]
discussed earlier on in this video
[357]
the main differences between the dipfer
[358]
and dip pfs would be the
[360]
structure of the exams with the diphther
[362]
you have unit one and unit two
[365]
so in fsre it is multiple choice exams
[369]
and then the unit two you've got the
[370]
coursework and the written exam as well
[372]
that's in two units you then become
[374]
diploma qualified
[375]
so if you feel that approach is relevant
[378]
to you
[379]
then fantastic whereas the pfs
[383]
to obtain 140 credits you normally need
[386]
around about
[387]
six different unit modules to obtain
[389]
those credits
[391]
and so you'll be able to do a much more
[393]
focused approach
[394]
such as if you do the ro1 through to r06
[397]
exams you'll have certain topics you
[400]
need to study for
[401]
so if you feel that approach is for you
[403]
then fantastic as well
[404]
in terms of whether you should go with
[406]
dpfs or dipfer
[411]
this answer really comes down to a
[414]
personal circumstance
[416]
i would not recommend one over the other
[418]
as a general rule of thumb
[420]
unless i knew about your personal
[421]
circumstances
[423]
and the first one is if you started uh
[426]
work towards either
[427]
then you should most definitely go with
[429]
that you're already on the right track
[432]
to continue don't dwell and think maybe
[436]
i should change continue on the path you
[438]
are
[439]
unless you feel it's not working for you
[441]
you may need to re-evaluate
[443]
the next part in terms of whether you
[445]
should go with pfs or dipfer
[447]
is also in terms of the personal
[448]
circumstances of the cost
[450]
or how you feel you'd manage the study
[453]
towards it around your work and personal
[454]
commitments
[455]
but just again to stress they do get you
[457]
to the same place of that diploma
[459]
qualification
[460]
so one is not better than the other and
[462]
my last piece of advice would be not to
[464]
overthink or over analyze this decision
[467]
i do think for some people this could be
[468]
a case of analysis paralysis
[470]
which we did cover this subject in more
[472]
detail so see the description box below
