Tucker Carlson: It turns out we're insane - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
good evening and welcome to Tucker
[1]
Carlson's how you think you've got a
[3]
tough job huh imagine being Joe Biden's
[5]
handlers you spend all day trying to
[8]
keep the guy away from hot mics that's
[10]
not easy Biden feels about microphones
[13]
the way golden retrievers feel about
[14]
cash rolls leave one on a low table and
[17]
he pounces on it and that's not good for
[19]
anyone Biden could declare war on Russia
[21]
or tell Israeli officials to quote keep
[23]
alive the honor of the Holocaust both of
[25]
which by the way he's actually done so
[27]
there's never any upside in letting Joe
[29]
Biden speak in public
[31]
but unfortunately for the White House
[32]
sometimes you don't have a choice
[33]
disasters happen and when they do the
[35]
public expects somebody to pretend to be
[37]
president
[38]
the American economy is currently a
[40]
disaster therefore Joe Biden had to talk
[42]
so his aides dutifully led him out to
[44]
the podium today to say something
[46]
edifying about it
[47]
what happened next has got to be one of
[49]
the weirdest presidential briefings ever
[51]
conducted New Economic numbers show our
[54]
GDP has declined for two quarters in a
[57]
row that's the definition of a recession
[59]
we're in a recession that's why Joe
[61]
Biden had to hold the briefing
[63]
and yet Biden never once mentioned those
[66]
numbers not a single time other than
[68]
that Mrs Lincoln how was the play it was
[70]
completely bizarre instead Biden simply
[73]
announced that there is no recession in
[75]
the United States no matter what you may
[76]
have noticed about your own country I
[78]
repeat there is no recession in fact
[81]
thanks to the stalard leadership of Joe
[83]
Biden we can announce record potato
[85]
harvests in the provinces the people are
[88]
happy and thriving period
[90]
and with that button left the stage
[92]
watch
[93]
and let me speak to one other issue let
[95]
me speak to one other issue
[97]
the GDP
[99]
and whether or not there we are in a
[102]
recession
[103]
both chairman Powell and many of the uh
[108]
um
[109]
significant
[111]
banking personnel and Economist say
[115]
we're not in recession let me just give
[117]
you what the facts are in terms of the
[119]
state of the economy number one we have
[122]
a record job market
[124]
of uh record unemployment of 3.6 percent
[128]
today and the inflation reduction act
[132]
will add another
[134]
370 billion dollars in clean energy tax
[137]
credits in reconciliation including
[141]
incentives to accelerate domestic
[143]
production of solar panels wind turbines
[146]
batteries and critical materials
[149]
processing that doesn't sound like a
[151]
recession to me thank you very much
[155]
Jesus
[158]
see Dumbo significant banking Personnel
[162]
say we're not in a recession plus wind
[165]
turbines wind turbines and if you don't
[167]
believe it
[169]
3.6 unemployment we are winning
[173]
pay no attention to the millions of
[175]
former workers who are being paid by the
[176]
government to stay home leaving
[178]
businesses without anyone to staff them
[179]
why is the ice cream stand near your
[182]
house closed in July well because
[184]
welfare pays more than scooping ice
[186]
cream does but ignore that the economy
[188]
is in great shape though if there's one
[190]
thing that might make it even better
[191]
other than wind turbines it's printing
[193]
billions more in fake money which will
[196]
definitely not accelerate our already
[198]
terrifying level of inflation that's why
[201]
we're calling it the inflation reduction
[203]
Act
[204]
because more money in the system will
[206]
reduce inflation at will and it will
[207]
because we say it will because what
[210]
matters is not the way that things
[211]
actually are what matters are the words
[215]
we use to describe things we can change
[218]
reality merely by calling it something
[221]
else if we call a man a woman that's
[223]
what she is if we call an open border a
[225]
secure border that's what we have and as
[228]
you just saw if we tell you that a
[229]
collapsing economy is a robust economy
[232]
well then it's time to celebrate our
[234]
Newfound prosperity and feel free to buy
[236]
champagne on your EBT card it's on us
[239]
it turns out that when you think you're
[241]
God all that matters is what you say
[243]
your commands in the beginning was the
[245]
word
[246]
and this week the word was definitely
[248]
not recession that word is now an
[250]
operative it's obsolete and frankly it's
[252]
embarrassing it's like stewardess or
[254]
firemen or the Orient it's not something
[257]
you'd say are uneducated people
[259]
so to Herald this important new change
[261]
to our language on July 21st the White
[263]
House officially changed the definition
[265]
of recession they said it so it's true
[267]
now in a blog post officials explain
[270]
that two consecutive quarters of
[271]
declining GDP is quote neither the
[274]
official definition nor the way
[275]
economists evaluate the state of the
[277]
business cycle
[278]
not convinced well you're not watching
[280]
television because every official in the
[283]
Biden Administration all these
[284]
credential economists went on camera to
[286]
swear it was true
[288]
I do want to emphasize what a recession
[291]
really means is a broad-based
[294]
contraction in the economy and even if
[297]
that number is negative we are not in a
[300]
recession now and certainly that in
[302]
terms of the technical definition it's
[303]
not a recession the technical definition
[305]
considers a much broader spectrum of
[307]
data points the idea that uh two
[310]
quarters of negative GDP growth is a
[312]
technical definition of a recession is
[315]
wrong if things are going so great
[317]
though then why is it that White House
[318]
officials are trying to redefine
[321]
recession no we're not redefining
[323]
recession if we all understand the
[324]
recession to be two consecutive quarters
[327]
of negative GDP growth in a row and then
[329]
you have White House officials come up
[331]
here to say no no that's not what a
[332]
recession is it's something else how is
[335]
that not redefining recession because
[336]
that's not the definition
[339]
okay so ignore the tape of General we
[342]
shouldn't have played that it's hard to
[343]
think clearly ignore how mind-bogglingly
[345]
repulsive she is ignore all the work
[347]
she's done herself to destroy the
[349]
American economy when she ran the
[351]
Federal Reserve listen to what they're
[354]
saying two consecutive quarters of
[356]
declining GDP
[358]
that's not the definition of recession
[361]
really
[362]
we thought it was we thought that for
[365]
about 50 years no
[367]
turns out we're insane we're
[369]
hallucinating Lucy in the Sky with
[371]
diamond stuff and the media have
[372]
confirmed it this is from Politico quote
[375]
the White House is pretty obviously
[377]
right that even two quarters of
[379]
shrinking GDP would not show the economy
[382]
is currently in recession that's the
[384]
word from Ben White who is the chief
[387]
economics reporter at Politico and he's
[390]
backed up by the Associated Press which
[391]
is totally real just today the AP
[393]
reported that quote the U.S economy
[396]
shrank for a second straight quarter
[397]
raising fears to the nation may be
[399]
approaching a recession we're getting
[402]
close now
[403]
in other words two declining quarters of
[407]
growth is not a recession just like the
[409]
White House said
[411]
and that sounds definitive it's always
[413]
been that way as long as you don't have
[415]
a memory that extends past say last week
[417]
because it was just a few weeks ago
[419]
before the White House declared
[420]
otherwise that everyone was saying
[422]
differently including Ben White and the
[425]
AP they're still using the term
[426]
stewardess they were using the old
[428]
definition
[430]
want examples okay how about this June
[431]
22nd of this year this same Ben White
[434]
Assuming he's real wrote in Politico
[436]
which unfortunately is and we're quoting
[438]
I'm sorry to report that the conditions
[441]
are ripe for a slide in gross domestic
[443]
product growth that lasts at least two
[444]
quarters comma the technical definition
[447]
of recession ooh Ben White could that be
[450]
the same Ben White the same political
[451]
could be and then in January of this
[454]
year which is 2022 we think the AP
[456]
reported the same thing and we're
[457]
quoting Mexico's economy entered a
[460]
technical recession at the end of last
[461]
year with two consecutive quarters of
[464]
contraction
[465]
oh wow so it turns out that was the
[467]
definition prior to two weeks ago in
[469]
fact it's been the definition for
[470]
decades in fact you'll find it in every
[471]
economic textbook ever written it's all
[474]
over the archives the AP which because
[475]
we're paid to do it we slog through
[477]
today here's one example quote French
[479]
economy falls back into recession the AP
[481]
reporter back in 2013. here's a direct
[484]
quote from the article a recession is
[486]
defined as two consecutive quarters of
[488]
negative growth
[489]
whoa
[491]
whoa you're not insane no one dosed you
[495]
you're not hallucinating even CNN used
[497]
to say this is CNN White House
[499]
correspondent John Harwood wrote on
[501]
August 20th 2019 vectoring Trump and Big
[504]
Orange ran thinks no more quoting
[506]
recession equals economy shrinks for two
[509]
quarters
[510]
oh wow in fact not to blame her the
[512]
point even Brian deese who's now the top
[515]
White House economic advisor used to run
[518]
with that definition and we're quoting
[519]
economists have a technical definition
[521]
of recession which is two consecutive
[523]
quarters of negative growth he wrote
[525]
that back in 2008 unfortunately for him
[526]
we found it
[528]
and yet this week everything's different
[529]
because you can't say stewardess anymore
[531]
so diesa's new position is quote two
[534]
negative quarters of GDP growth is not
[536]
the technical definition of recession
[539]
whoa okay if you say so because in the
[543]
beginning was the word you are God now
[545]
but that does raise the question if it's
[547]
not a recession
[548]
then what is it well
[550]
for this and all other important matters
[552]
including intimate marital questions we
[554]
go to the White House Press Secretary
[555]
who informs this it's not a recession
[556]
it's quote a transition
[559]
when you look at it more broadly at the
[562]
data and that's why we're seeing what
[564]
we're seeing is that we are in a
[566]
transition
[568]
we're in a transition does that mean the
[570]
whole country's now taking puberty
[571]
blockers and becoming a girl no
[573]
different kind of transition
[575]
this is a transition to Green energy and
[578]
Renewables Joe but I'd announce it say
[580]
it's a transition to handing China our
[583]
energy grid oh that's a transition some
[586]
might call it a collapse of Empire and a
[588]
subsequent disaster where we're ruled by
[590]
people who hate us but no it's a
[592]
transition in which China gets to making
[594]
control the wind turbines the lithium
[597]
the solar panels
[598]
hmm
[600]
what do actual voters think about this
[601]
who cares because that only matters in a
[604]
democracy but we'll tell you anyway
[605]
Americans do not want to hand our energy
[608]
grid to China or stop using air
[610]
conditioning in the summer or drive your
[612]
stupid little electric cars
[614]
right because it turns out No One
[615]
Believes the experts who have told us
[617]
the world is going to end for the past
[619]
50 years but who still buy beachfront
[621]
property paging you Barack Obama and
[623]
most people kind of understand what's
[624]
going to happen next they could become
[626]
Sri Lanka a country that destroyed
[629]
itself committed National Suicide in
[630]
pursuit of a high ESG score turns out
[633]
actual people of both parties just all
[636]
normal people want to do things like
[637]
afford gasoline or have some place to
[639]
live they can afford
[640]
what Joe Biden said today will get us
[642]
much closer to Sri Lanka there's kind of
[644]
no dispute about that we also know for
[646]
certain that the spending under the
[648]
Biden Administration under previous
[649]
administrations but certainly
[651]
dramatically accelerated under Biden has
[653]
devalued the dollar to the point that we
[656]
have massive inflation and a decline in
[657]
GDP because as money loses value and
[660]
things get more expensive people at some
[662]
point can't afford to buy as much and
[664]
then gross domestic product declines
[666]
it's not like some crazy theory in fact
[669]
even the Federal Reserve Bank of San
[670]
Francisco hardly a right-wing
[672]
Institution
[673]
has pointed out that Joe Biden's
[675]
spending in his first year in office
[676]
single-handedly hiked the inflation rate
[678]
by at least three percent that's higher
[680]
than many other developed countries
[682]
including Germany Canada and the UK
[684]
so what's been the effect for the rest
[687]
of us now they can say there's no
[688]
recession and the word is like firemen
[690]
you just don't say it
[692]
but what's America look like well I
[694]
don't know let's check your local food
[696]
bank or a good chance your local food
[697]
bank is overwhelmed in Boise Idaho for
[700]
example the Meridian Food Bank reports
[702]
they've gone from serving 2 800 people
[704]
every month to 4 200 in just the last
[707]
year another nearby food bank called the
[709]
Care House food bank has reported a
[711]
similar increase a spokesman for the
[713]
care household local news station quote
[715]
we're finding out that with the rising
[717]
rent costs and the rising gasoline costs
[719]
the rent each first the gasoline eats
[722]
second so the family has very little to
[725]
buy food to eat sound like a rich
[727]
country to you a place that's thriving
[729]
that can afford to turn its energy grid
[732]
over to China no it's the same story
[734]
across the country Allentown
[735]
Pennsylvania the Allentown area economic
[737]
ecumenical Food Bank reports a massive
[739]
increase in families who need food
[742]
in the biggest food producing country in
[745]
the world yeah that's us but still the
[747]
food bank's director told the local news
[748]
station there quote since October we've
[751]
tripled the number of families we're
[752]
serving every month she had that 300 of
[755]
the 1800 families she served this month
[757]
are first-time visitors
[760]
they haven't spent years at the food
[762]
bank they need to now because the
[763]
economy is in sorry to use the word
[765]
recession
[766]
outside St Mary's Food Bank in Phoenix
[768]
the AP reported that hundreds of
[770]
families lined up this month the line
[771]
went around the block the food bank's
[773]
main Distribution Center served
[776]
4271 families in just one week last
[779]
month that's a 78 increase compared to
[782]
last year according to the AP quote more
[785]
than 900 families lined up at the
[787]
Distribution Center every weekday for an
[788]
emergency government food box stuffed
[790]
with Goods such as canned beans peanut
[793]
butter and rice that's a bread line by
[795]
the way that's a bread line in the
[796]
United States did you see that on NBC
[799]
Nightly News probably not it was
[800]
happening ever Alameda food bank in
[802]
California similar numbers they've gone
[804]
from 890 households served on a typical
[807]
Friday in January to more than 1400
[809]
families on a typical Friday last month
[812]
in Central Florida the Second Harvest
[814]
Food Bank which supplies around 500 Food
[816]
Bank Partners in the region says the
[818]
number of people looking for food not
[821]
for vacations in Antigua or in new Tesla
[823]
but for food to eat so they can survive
[825]
has gone up 25 percent in the last month
[829]
the food bank used to distribute 150 000
[832]
meals overall a day now they're up to a
[834]
quarter million and that number is
[835]
rising the food bank's director says the
[838]
cause is inflation obviously quote it
[840]
cost quite a bit to put millions and
[842]
millions of pounds of food out the door
[844]
every week and every month
[845]
until that to a local news station
[848]
so does the White House notice any of
[850]
this do they know what's happening
[852]
who knows what they know they certainly
[854]
don't care they're saying it out loud
[855]
Joe Biden's top economic advisor
[859]
Brian deese is telling you that it
[862]
doesn't matter you're worried about
[864]
inflation
[865]
well it's easy for Americans to find
[868]
food says Brian D's watch the United
[870]
States is in a stronger position to
[873]
actually train our focus on tackling
[875]
inflation
[876]
than virtually any other country for
[879]
example you know with respect to food
[881]
we're a net exporter of of agricultural
[884]
Commodities and obviously the high
[886]
prices are hitting Americans very hard
[888]
but uh there that in in a way that is
[890]
different from some places that are
[892]
facing famine for example oh lower your
[896]
expectations America that sound you're
[898]
hearing is the goal post moving so we
[901]
went very quickly now from build back
[903]
better to hey at least you're not
[905]
starving to death
[906]
at least I'm a famine whoa whoa hold on
[909]
a second pal this was America like a
[911]
year and a half ago where the planes
[913]
took off on time and people were getting
[915]
killed every day on the subway and there
[916]
wasn't filth and graffiti and drug
[918]
addicts on the streets and people aren't
[919]
worried about having enough to eat those
[921]
were our first real expectations like
[923]
electricity in the summertime oh but
[926]
there's no famine
[928]
just be glad there's no famine and do
[930]
your part they're telling us
[932]
save us from the climate crisis the one
[934]
that somehow isn't affecting oceanfront
[937]
property in Malibu and Martha's Vineyard
[939]
but not just the climate crisis to save
[940]
democracy in Ukraine
[943]
way more important than inflation your
[946]
stupid economic concerns just the other
[948]
day the president of Ukraine zielinski
[950]
the man they're telling us is the new
[951]
George Washington decide you know what I
[954]
don't have to pretend to care about the
[955]
United States anymore I think Americans
[957]
are ridiculous decadent over fed and I
[959]
have contempt for them
[961]
so he was asked wait a second can
[963]
America afford to send 60 billion
[966]
dollars to your corrupt autocracy so you
[968]
can shoot dramatic magazine photo covers
[970]
for Vogue
[972]
well of course said zielinski and we're
[974]
quoting inflation who's thinking about
[976]
inflation we're fighting for absolute
[979]
communal values What whose values we're
[983]
not in common anything communal with you
[985]
pal you've run a corrupt little Eastern
[987]
European country we have a right to
[989]
worry about our own country
[991]
and at the White House they agree with
[992]
solensky that's almost word for word
[994]
what our national security advisor Jake
[996]
Sullivan said when he was asked the
[998]
exact same question on July 22nd
[1000]
Americans are worried about sending all
[1002]
this money to Ukraine at a time when
[1005]
inflation is out of control and
[1006]
Americans don't have enough money I
[1008]
don't know to buy food or pay rent
[1010]
so the moderator at the Aspen Institute
[1013]
which needs a lot more immigrants from
[1015]
the third world immediately as we told
[1016]
the other night ask this
[1018]
and you know what Jake Sullivan said
[1019]
fundamentally I don't care watch this
[1022]
do you worry about
[1024]
criticism that we're spending billions
[1025]
and millions of dollars to support
[1026]
Ukraine not spending it here
[1028]
it's my job to worry so I worry about
[1031]
literally everything I worry about my
[1033]
answer to this question
[1035]
um
[1036]
so yes I guess I worry but in a way
[1038]
that's sort of not saying anything at
[1040]
all
[1041]
um
[1042]
uh
[1043]
this is the Being John Malkovich portion
[1046]
of the of our of our session but
[1049]
fundamentally no Congress passed a 40
[1052]
billion dollar package for Ukraine is
[1056]
the reservoir of support in this country
[1057]
as translated into the Congress and the
[1061]
executive branch deep and sustainable
[1064]
from the point of view of doing whatever
[1065]
it takes for as the president has said
[1067]
as long as it takes yes
[1071]
so here you have Jake Sullivan and Jeff
[1075]
Goldberg two midwits who've accomplished
[1078]
pretty much nothing in their entire
[1079]
lives talking about the issues that will
[1082]
Define this country for our
[1084]
grandchildren
[1086]
before an audience in Aspen and saying
[1089]
things like I'm not worried at all and
[1091]
then the audience titters and you wonder
[1094]
and historians will review tapes like
[1096]
that when they try to figure out what
[1097]
actually happened to this thriving
[1098]
civilization we had you wonder if these
[1100]
people can hear themselves
[1101]
do they know how they look do they know
[1103]
how ridiculous they are do they know how
[1105]
deeply the public despises them for good
[1107]
reason do you worry about criticism
[1109]
we're sending billions of dollars to
[1111]
support Ukraine and not spending it here
[1112]
fundamentally no
[1114]
and Jake Sullivan isn't worried because
[1116]
he knows he can call inflation
[1118]
transitory when it's not he can deny
[1120]
we're in a recession when we're
[1121]
obviously in one
[1123]
because the words are all that matter to
[1126]
them not the reality they don't walk
[1129]
through Midtown in Manhattan and notice
[1131]
hey this is disgusting this is where
[1133]
someone buy how did it get this way they
[1135]
don't even notice
[1137]

[1138]
hour-long investigation into the actual
[1140]
state of our economy how we got here how
