As you know future is a derivative contract between two parties buyers and sellers

future contract is used for speculation hedging and for arbitrage trading

when we buy a future contract it is called long

when we sell future contract it is called short

you know that every future contracts expires on the last thursday of the month

before sebi circular it is used to be that when whenever you used to buy a future contract

so if you did not square off your position till the expiry day than exchange it self square off your position
