[0]
all right guys when it comes to politics today聽 we're going to take time out to talk about the聽聽
[5]
original infrastructure bill the buildback better聽 plan that president biden had set forth in january聽聽
[12]
what's the difference between what the聽 infrastructure bill is now and the one聽聽
[16]
that they had back then we're going to hear聽 details about it from alexandria ocasio-cortez聽聽
[22]
in other words aoc with her interview with聽 rachel maddow this past week giving a breakdown聽聽
[28]
on why it is so important to have both sides of聽 these bills also we're going to talk about when聽聽
[35]
it comes to the cost of living increase or the聽 cost of living adjustment for 2022 we're going聽聽
[40]
to give you the official date that they're going聽 gonna make the announcement so you'll know what聽聽
[45]
increase you'll be getting we're gonna talk聽 about all that in details here on mostly money
[54]

greatest information coming from mostly money聽 because we're going to always be here for you聽聽
[80]
and your loved ones let's get started when聽 it comes to the buildback better plan in聽聽
[86]
other words the reconciliation bill that 3.5聽 trillion dollar infrastructure stimulus bill聽聽
[93]
that president biden and the democratic party聽 has been trying to get across the finish line聽聽
[97]
or aoc has a lot to say about it she's going聽 to give her details during an interview聽聽
[103]
and she's going to give her details right now in聽 which she get and she's going to give the details聽聽
[108]
of what that and she's going to give the details聽 of how important this bill is and she's going to聽聽
[116]
give the details on why this bill is a once in a聽 lifetime bill why is there an effort to link them聽聽
[124]
both and make sure that the big bill doesn't get聽 delayed indefinitely after the small bill passes
[131]
yeah so i am i completely agree with you that a聽 lot of this discussion about process and tit for聽聽
[137]
tat just is very difficult to follow and doesn't聽 really cover the heart of this conversation聽聽
[142]
which is that we have two bills at present one聽 which covers which underfunds most priorities聽聽
[150]
across the board so there are very few priorities聽 that even get the full funding that they even need聽聽
[156]
and then there is the larger what is known as聽 the budget bill reconciliation bill that has the聽聽
[161]
stuff that you're gonna feel in your everyday聽 life universal pre-k um we're talking about聽聽
[167]
college you know community colleges we're talking聽 about expansion of medicare and we're debating聽聽
[173]
including vision and dental in in medicare聽 conversations about lowering the age of it聽聽
[180]
robust climate action renewable energy all of聽 that stuff that you're going to feel in your聽聽
[185]
everyday life is in what is known as the build聽 back better act aka the reconciliation bill聽聽
[191]
now when we were discussing uh the scope of聽 this bill way earlier in the year this is聽聽
[197]
the original infrastructure bill and we have聽 a vast majority of democrats about 96 percent聽聽
[202]
that are that are in agreement of the entire聽 agenda now a very small handful of democrats聽聽
[209]
about four percent of the party are trying to聽 essentially split these two priorities up um you聽聽
[217]
know and i personally don't think it's an accident聽 that the ones that a lot of lobbyists love聽聽
[222]
are in the much smaller underfunded bill that聽 don't make prescription drugs easier to buy and聽聽
[228]
more affordable etc and what they want to do is聽 split them apart force a vote on the first one聽聽
[234]
and because we have such narrow margins in the聽 senate in the house you know the read that we have聽聽
[239]
is that they'll just dump the second one leave the聽 other one out to dry and just never actually vote聽聽
[245]
on it and so the way that we bring our two parts聽 of the caucus together is by say you know what my聽聽
[252]
bill is bound up in your bill and your bill is聽 bound up in my bill so do i love this very you聽聽
[259]
know what i would argue a conservative underfunded聽 bill no but i will vote for it if we pursue them聽聽
[266]
both together but what we should not take is this聽 approach which is what people are trying to do聽聽
[273]
by forcing a vote tomorrow on an under considered聽 underamended bill by itself by saying we want to聽聽
[281]
force this vote right now and it's either my way聽 or the highway you don't work together i want聽聽
[287]
your vote but i will give you nothing for it your聽 community will not benefit from this as much as聽聽
[292]
mine will it we don't have to pursue that route we聽 can instead of saying it's either mine or yours we聽聽
[299]
can say both of us can succeed together and that聽 is the case that the progressive caucus is making聽聽
[305]
she stated that it is the buildback better plan a聽 lot of us forget that prior to the pandemic life聽聽
[313]
wasn't all peaches and cream for most of us most聽 americans haven't had a decent raised in years聽聽
[320]
the cost of living increase was or adjustment was聽 basically next to nothing the housing bubble was聽聽
[326]
about to burst again at the same time the college聽 tuition bubble still ready to burst and on top of聽聽
[333]
that corporations and the rich had gotten major聽 tax cuts between 2016 and 2017 under president聽聽
[341]
donald trump so once again it was not all pieces聽 of cream for most of us that's why president biden聽聽
[347]
said that we need a build back better plan better聽 than what the last administration had put in order聽聽
[354]
and something that's better for us everyday聽 citizens for example if a person is working聽聽
[359]
why is it that their child care cannot be covered聽 also when it comes to universal child care you聽聽
[366]
should also have more weeks for fathers and聽 mothers when they first have a child that are聽聽
[372]
paid for once again the united states is only one聽 of two countries major countries in the world that聽聽
[378]
does not have universal health care for families聽 when you first have a child the other one is the聽聽
[384]
island of new guinea the other thing that she聽 mentioned was two years free college tuition we聽聽
[390]
deserve to have the first two years of college聽 absolutely free a lot of countries already have聽聽
[397]
four year tuition a four-year program and the聽 next thing that she mentioned when it came to聽聽
[401]
build back better is this medicare expansion there聽 should be just like bernie sanders said for those聽聽
[408]
that are seniors should automatically be able by聽 way of medicaid or medicare receive free hearing聽聽
[414]
free dental and free vision why individuals don't聽 have that i don't understand i didn't even know聽聽
[420]
that that didn't even exist i automatically聽 assumed that that was in there for seniors聽聽
[425]
and that it was a part of retiring now i've聽 learned over the last few years that individuals聽聽
[431]
aren't covered and you should be covered also聽 she mentioned climate change because of our聽聽
[437]
impact on the climate the climate is now having an聽 impact on us and if we don't do something about it聽聽
[444]
it's going to be too late to turn the clock around聽 so she's absolutely correct if globally everyone聽聽
[451]
else is joining in or making sure climate change聽 is something that we address the united states聽聽
[457]
should be a part of that as well making sure that聽 we address the issue also but the two people that聽聽
[463]
have been holding the infrastructure stimulus bill聽 back joe manchin and christian cinema we have not聽聽
[469]
heard a peep from them in regards to what they聽 want all we've been hearing about is the budget聽聽
[476]
what they want as far as we don't want it to be聽 this big we want it to be this small but they聽聽
[481]
don't say what they want inside of the budget and聽 they don't tell why they want the budget to be聽聽
[486]
smaller i want to be very clear about this if we聽 vote for this underfunded too small infrastructure聽聽
[494]
bill alone instead of voting for it with the rest聽 of the president's agenda if we vote for it alone聽聽
[501]
it could make our climate crisis worse and it聽 risks being the only or the last substantive聽聽
[507]
piece of legislation that we will pass i do not聽 believe we do not have the assurances necessary to聽聽
[513]
to believe in good faith that reconciliation will聽 pass if infrastructure passes tomorrow because聽聽
[519]
it gives that small narrow margin of democrats um聽 that have you know really been making this process聽聽
[529]
quite difficult you know there was a there was聽 an overall agreement between the process uh two聽聽
[533]
months ago and then there was a reneging of that聽 and so if we can just stick to our original plan聽聽
[538]
stick to the promises we've made each other we can聽 proceed in good faith and transform the lives of聽聽
[543]
millions millions of americans for the better聽 remember at one point in time as i mentioned聽聽
[548]
the other day joe mancha was on board with a four聽 trillion dollar infrastructure bill well it's not聽聽
[554]
four trillion it is actually 3.5 trillion right聽 around june july he was on board now he's down to聽聽
[562]
1.5 to 2 trillion dollars that he's singing that聽 this is what the infrastructure bill should be聽聽
[568]
he's just saying that he could care less about聽 the american people and all he cares about is聽聽
[574]
the constituents that fill his pockets which are聽 the lobbyists that's all he cares about hopefully聽聽
[580]
at the end of the day the president is able to聽 sit them down and get all this taken care of and聽聽
[586]
get these bills passed because people are in need聽 for more stimulus and other programs that need to聽聽
[592]
be available as soon as possible now when it comes聽 to being available and soon as possible the cost聽聽
[599]
of living increase will be announced now what is聽 the cost of living increase or adjustment the cola聽聽
[607]
what happens is when you're on ssi or ssdi as many聽 of you know you receive what's called a cost of聽聽
[614]
living adjustment increase based on the rate of聽 inflation that year or the year prior in other聽聽
[621]
words for example they're saying that the cost聽 of living adjustment may be for 2022 between 6聽聽
[628]
to 6.3 percent sounds great however inflation聽 because of what's taken place over the last聽聽
[636]
couple of years inflation has gone up to聽 5.3 percent to 5.4 so your cost of living聽聽
[643]
increase for january really isn't as much聽 as they're trying to sell you to believe聽聽
[648]
give you another example the cost of living聽 increased between 2000 and 2021 has only been 55聽聽
[656]
now that seems like a lot that in the last聽 21 years or 20 plus years you've received聽聽
[663]
55 increase however the rate of inflation聽 since 2000 has actually been 58.89
[674]
in other words 59 inflation increase yet聽 you only receive 55 of a cost of living聽聽
[684]
adjustment so anytime they try to let you聽 think that you're getting something major聽聽
[688]
they still need to make some adjustments how do聽 they calculate it every year well they take what's聽聽
[695]
known as the consumer price index for workers in聽 other words the cpi slash w and they take july聽聽
[705]
august and september numbers and calculate those聽 together and then say this is how much the cost聽聽
[711]
of living increase is going to be for starting聽 january of 2022 so that's how they've been doing聽聽
[717]
it every year is it fair how they calculated聽 i don't think so that's where there are a lot聽聽
[723]
of bills that are out there right now trying to聽 come up with a new format of how they calculate聽聽
[728]
the cost of living increase so you don't be聽 impacted by inflation as much as the fact of聽聽
[735]
consumer spending by seniors now let's talk聽 about the date well the date in which they聽聽
[742]
decided to have the cost of living announcement聽 or the cost of living adjustment announcement聽聽
[749]
is on my birthday next wednesday october 13th聽 is the official day in which they're going to聽聽
[756]

[772]
