Channel: unknown

[0]
what's going on guys my name is nick sakha and聽 in this video i'm going to talk to you about聽聽
[4]
10 things that you should know before starting聽 your own insurance agency a little bit about聽聽
[10]
myself i started my insurance journey about five聽 years ago in november 2016 where i started from聽聽
[17]
scratch my own captive insurance agency happened聽 to be in allstate insurance and through the years聽聽
[24]
been able to scale that to two offices to about聽 a five million dollar book of business and we are聽聽
[31]
just getting started i have goals of getting to聽 about 12 million to 15 million onward and forward聽聽
[37]
until we reach anywhere from 25 to 30 million this聽 all started from a seven year career from banking聽聽
[45]
where i was sick and tired of corporate america聽 and i quit cold turkey just to adventure into聽聽
[51]
entrepreneurship and what i would tell you guys is聽 that the insurance industry is has changed my life聽聽
[58]
i don't know if too many other opportunities where聽 you can grow your net worth into a million dollars聽聽
[64]
within five years like i have and you know this聽 has been through hardcore dedication this has been聽聽
[72]
through a lot of uh you know early mornings late聽 nights that whole thing we all heard of that but聽聽
[80]
seriously there were a lot of grit and a lot of聽 hustle we've been able to uh grow this bad boy聽聽
[85]
and like i said we're just getting started i hope聽 that i can add value to you guys and that you can聽聽
[90]
get a little bit more clarity in your insurance聽 agency journey and so if you get some value聽聽
[96]
out of this video do me a favor smash the like聽 button it's going to help me grow this channel聽聽
[100]
subscribe for all videos where i talk all things聽 entrepreneurship self-development and insurance聽聽
[106]
check out my other videos that i have on my聽 channel and uh be sure to follow me on all my聽聽
[111]
social media platforms as well without further ado聽 let's get into it first thing that you should know聽聽
[116]
about this industry is that most agents fail most聽 people that start their insurance business fail i聽聽
[125]
have this group photo of all of the insurance聽 agents that started their journey alongside me聽聽
[132]
there's probably a room full of almost 30 people聽 training to open up their insurance agency聽聽
[139]
i can tell you that about 80 percent of them聽 are either not with you know my company anymore聽聽
[146]
and or some of them failed or some of them just聽 quit a variety of different things but most聽聽
[153]
people will fail in this business and i don't say聽 that to just be you know to be negative it's just聽聽
[157]
honestly just acknowledging the truth that most聽 people don't and i think the reason is that most聽聽
[163]
people don't treat it like a business they come聽 in here they were an employee for several years聽聽
[168]
and and they come in to and they come in expecting聽 to just manage this thing to manage an insurance聽聽
[173]
agency into it being fruitful and it to it being聽 successful and it just doesn't work out that way聽聽
[179]
you have to treat it like a business i'm talking聽 early mornings late nights be ha be and have聽聽
[186]
grit you know uh be relentless in making sure that聽 this thing is successful you might have to be your聽聽
[193]
number one salesperson in the beginning until you聽 can scale it but you have to once you start seeing聽聽
[199]
money coming in you have to reinvest those profits聽 you have to hire on a team you have to specialize聽聽
[207]
between a service and a sales department you have聽 to bring in good quality talent and you have to聽聽
[213]
you know buy internet leads you have to send out聽 mailers like you will have to make the investment聽聽
[218]
into your business and a lot of times when i see聽 people fail is because they prematurely start聽聽
[224]
investing in you know just buying a nice car聽 buying stupid things that have nothing to do with聽聽
[230]
the growth of their business and so you know the聽 first thing you should know is that most people聽聽
[235]
fail hopefully that's not you hopefully you're聽 coming in knowing that you're going gonna dominate聽聽
[239]
that you have that that fire that you're just聽 not gonna quit you're gonna do whatever it takes聽聽
[245]
to be successful at this and so uh with the rest聽 of the things the rest of the tips that i'm gonna聽聽
[249]
give you guys today hopefully you'll uh be able to聽 take that and guarantee that you're not a part of聽聽
[255]
that ninety percent that's not going to be here聽 two years later so that's the first thing you聽聽
[259]
should know let's get into the second thing the聽 second thing you should know are the startup costs聽聽
[263]
now if you're a captive agent the startup costs聽 for like a state farm or a farmers or an all-state聽聽
[269]
can be anywhere from 50 to 100 grand in some cases聽 even more i do think it's going to depend from聽聽
[275]
state to state if you are starting a brokerage聽 or going independent it's pretty similar anywhere聽聽
[282]
from 50 to 100 capital requirements every company聽 every brokerage is a little bit different as well聽聽
[288]
but if you have to give a ballpark figure to it聽 as anywhere from 50 to 100 000 five years ago聽聽
[293]
when i started by the grace of god it was only聽 25 000 i used this joke that i was like you know聽聽
[300]
indiana jones when that rock was going down and聽 i got in at 25 000 and then boom he grabs his hat聽聽
[308]
i got lucky but the capital requirement聽 now is actually a hundred thousand聽聽
[313]
um but it is completely worth it if you put聽 in the work this industry will pay off so聽聽
[318]
that's what you can expect for as far as the聽 the capital requirement if you are buying a book聽聽
[323]
of business it's a little bit different you can聽 essentially just buy someone's book of business聽聽
[329]
and that's your entry into the into the business聽 but you're also going to need some capital聽聽
[333]
uh some operating costs to be able to grow聽 that existing book of business that you're聽聽
[338]
buying so you're gonna have to have a lot of聽 cash on hand to be able to prepare for that聽聽
[342]
but that's the second thing you can expect the聽 third thing you can expect is getting licensed in聽聽
[348]
my situation i had to get property and casualty my聽 property and casualty licenses as well as my life聽聽
[355]
and health licenses before my company ever let me聽 start my training and also in that agreement was聽聽
[363]
that i had to get my series 6 and 63 within two聽 years otherwise i could lose my insurance agency聽聽
[370]
another thing that you want to look at is your聽 business licenses as well and you know there聽聽
[376]
might be county licenses as well with getting your聽 business license and so on and so forth but the聽聽
[382]
biggest thing you should know is that everything聽 is state specific so you will want to ask you know聽聽
[386]
your recruiter or whoever's on boarding you or聽 whoever's helping you what that looks like another聽聽
[392]
thing that i did was i did start my agencies聽 off as an s corporation for the tax benefits聽聽
[400]
um consult with a cpa or or a tax professional聽 to help you figure out what's best for you um but聽聽
[406]
that's the third thing you can expect the fourth聽 thing that you should know about starting your own聽聽
[411]
insurance agency is that and this one's completely聽 my opinion is that location doesn't matter i would聽聽
[418]
not get so caught up in having this slam dunk you聽 know office location that's in a busy shopping聽聽
[426]
center that has a huge anchor like a walmart or聽 a target that's irrelevant uh this business is a聽聽
[432]
lot of outbound going out and get it type of type聽 of industry right like you have to go out and get聽聽
[438]
the business make outbound calls build a solid you聽 know a ton of relationships and referral partners聽聽
[445]
and location you know the the lighter you can keep聽 your office expense uh the better so don't go out聽聽
[453]
looking for the slam dunk location it's really not聽 going to make a difference i have a slam dunk deal聽聽
[459]
on both of my office locations where for both of聽 them in las vegas nevada where i'm not in the hood聽聽
[464]
i pay less than uh what is it now about about 2600聽 for both office locations i know several agency聽聽
[473]
owners that have locations that cost anywhere聽 from one location that cost anywhere from 2500聽聽
[478]
to 3500 a month in my opinion that's not worth聽 it save your money use more of it to reinvest in聽聽
[485]
other things that's going to generate聽 business versus your office location聽聽
[490]
the fifth thing that you can expect um聽 and a lot of questions that people have is聽聽
[494]
how much can i expect to make and so i'm here to聽 tell you you're not gonna like this answer but聽聽
[498]
you will make enough and what i mean聽 by that is what you're gonna make is聽聽
[502]
gonna be irrelevant and the reason why聽 is because you are a business owner now聽聽
[506]
and all the profits that you make count on and聽 just be in the mindset that i'm gonna reinvest聽聽
[512]
everything over the next five years don't worry聽 about will i make six figures my first year or one聽聽
[516]
mix i better make 150 000 others i'm not going to聽 do it if you have that mindset you're not you know聽聽
[522]
you're not going to succeed at this long term and聽 so you know how much you're going to make is going聽聽
[527]
to largely depend on how much you reinvest over聽 the long haul and so uh get out of that mindset聽聽
[534]
you know how much am i going to make that doesn't聽 matter get used to reinvesting all your profits聽聽
[539]
and eventually of course you're going to make a聽 phenomenal an outstanding income this business聽聽
[546]
will take you there but get in the聽 mindset that i'm gonna reinvest everything聽聽
[552]
the sixth thing that you should know聽 is that your success is going to depend聽聽
[556]
on you okay not your field sales leader not your聽 employees not the person that got you involved聽聽
[564]
not the buddy that told you he was making a聽 grip of money and that you could do it too聽聽
[568]
it's gonna depend on you and so the expectations聽 that you create for yourself and for your team聽聽
[574]
and for those around you are going to determine聽 whether or not you're here a few years from now聽聽
[579]
or not you know whether you're going to be a part聽 of that 90 statistic or the 10 statistics of those聽聽
[585]
that are winning at a high level and so you know聽 it all comes down to you and your i would also聽聽
[590]
tell you that your office culture is everything聽 the people that you bring in the people that聽聽
[595]
people that you bring in will either add to your聽 office culture or or subtract from your office聽聽
[600]
culture so you're gonna have to make a lot of聽 mistakes and that's okay but you know given the聽聽
[605]
mindset that you know you're you may or may not聽 have this expectation that you're going to have聽聽
[610]
all the support in the world and it's going to be聽 the easiest thing in the world and it's not you're聽聽
[615]
going to have to get resourceful you're gonna聽 have to become a problem solver and it's gonna聽聽
[620]
largely depend on you at the end of the day and聽 so get ready to take ownership because it's gonna聽聽
[625]
you're gonna win or lose and it's all gonna be聽 your fault the seventh thing that you should know聽聽
[630]
as a brand new insurance agency owner is that聽 and this is just my opinion here that social聽聽
[635]
media is mandatory in today's day and age when聽 i first started you know when i was in training聽聽
[641]
to open up my insurance agency one of my number聽 one strategies was i'm gonna use social media聽聽
[647]
to become successful at this business and i did聽 and i remember a lot of people it wasn't a lot聽聽
[652]
of people's uh game plans or you know marketing聽 plans to to use social media as a tool but me just聽聽
[658]
being a millennial guy i just knew that that's聽 how that's what my strategy was going to be聽聽
[664]
and i know that this industry is full of a聽 bunch of dinosaurs a lot of older you know聽聽
[670]
agents that aren't in touch with the marketing of聽 today's world and so i'm here to tell you that get聽聽
[676]
used to social media you better build a personal聽 brand you better post good funny entertaining uh聽聽
[682]
educational content that's going to get people聽 to think about you in the topic of insurance i聽聽
[687]
dropped another video on how to market in today's聽 day and age and so i'll go ahead and link it up聽聽
[692]
as one of the cards and so get used to social聽 media you better build a brand you better build聽聽
[698]
a culture that is going to really get people to聽 think about you in the topic of insurance and the聽聽
[704]
only way to do that is to put yourself out there聽 on social media the a thing that you should know聽聽
[710]
is that you are going to have to and i'm talking聽 about investing again and reinvesting you're聽聽
[715]
going to have to invest in events in trainings and聽 and and processes and things to make your agency聽聽
[724]
better you're going to have to get used to swiping聽 your credit card i remember when i first started聽聽
[729]
and every time i wanted to invest in a new in an聽 event and bringing my staff with me or you know or聽聽
[736]
a coaching platform or a training platform i was聽 always reluctant but i'm here to tell you that聽聽
[742]
you will see an roi if you make the investment聽 you will see an roi make it a point to go to聽聽
[749]
events make it a point to bring your staff with聽 you invest in processes listen to podcasts there's聽聽
[755]
so many videos on youtube i got some buddies聽 you know the insurance dudes is a good podcast聽聽
[762]
there are resources available to you and you're聽 going to have to create systems and processes聽聽
[767]
for you and your team but most importantly get聽 around winners get around the people that are聽聽
[771]
performing at a high level add value to them get聽 cool with them right they're all over social media聽聽
[778]
heck you can message me if you want to right聽 get around winners invest in mentorship if you聽聽
[784]
can if there's somebody there's an agent in your聽 market that is a top performer and he's willing聽聽
[789]
to help you get around those people because聽 that's going to largely determine your success聽聽
[794]
the last thing you want to do is hang around with聽 all the negative agents the ones that are always聽聽
[798]
complaining the ones that are that are just聽 ah you know just they just they've got this聽聽
[803]
crap mindset if i'm being honest and you don't聽 want to associate with those people you want to聽聽
[807]
get around winners because the conversations are a聽 lot different the ninth thing you should know are聽聽
[812]
the risks involved with starting your own business聽 now i obviously am still here i didn't fail聽聽
[819]
i did get to witness you know a handful of聽 people that i trained with that didn't make it聽聽
[824]
and i believe that the risks are you know there's聽 going to be a little bit of financial risk聽聽
[831]
i don't know how much you're going to invest and聽 then not you know maybe adapt or not be able to聽聽
[836]
deliver on your investment but you know you got聽 to know the risks involved and you know and i聽聽
[843]
don't think you can i think if you're buying聽 into a book of business i don't think you can聽聽
[848]
fail so dramatically that you lose your entire聽 investment um of course it's just case by case聽聽
[854]
so i think the risks are a little bit different聽 for everyone i would ultimately tell you that as聽聽
[859]
you know you would have to really suck like bad聽 to lose your in your entire investment and to be聽聽
[865]
just in this really big hole after starting your聽 insurance agency so the risks are case by case聽聽
[873]
you know if you want to mitigate those risks as聽 much as possible find an agency in town that's聽聽
[880]
local to you and that they're winning and go and聽 work for them for a little bit almost like an聽聽
[886]
internship and go and find out all their systems聽 and processes and expectations that they have聽聽
[892]
for their team and mimic that right just mimic聽 whatever they're doing that's working for them聽聽
[898]
and then you know maybe a year two years three聽 years later then start your own insurance agency聽聽
[903]
and that might actually work out for you even聽 better so as far as risks are concerned uh it's聽聽
[909]
case by case but hopefully that gives聽 you a better idea of the risks involved聽聽
[914]
all right guys you have made it this far if you聽 have do me a favor smash that like button if聽聽
[918]
you haven't already yet i'd really appreciate it聽 because it's going to help me grow this channel聽聽
[922]
um all right the 10th thing that you should know聽 as becoming a brand new insurance agency owner聽聽
[928]
is that this is a get rich slow business now聽 let me elaborate okay i told you guys that聽聽
[935]
in the last five years when i started you聽 know i'm almost at year five and my net worth聽聽
[940]
has finally surpassed over a million which i'm聽 like oh that's freaking cool right but i'm just聽聽
[946]
getting started like this isn't the final stop聽 like i got so much more to go and if i'm being聽聽
[951]
honest with you this took a lot of reinvesting聽 i have invested a lot into making this happen聽聽
[958]
right i'm still investing this youtube channel聽 is an investment this is a get rich slow business聽聽
[964]
and you know some of the agents that i know that聽 are just dominating and crushing they have 15 25聽聽
[971]
35 million dollar books of businesses they've been聽 at this guys for a long time 20 years right 15聽聽
[978]
to 30 years right and so don't come in here with聽 this get rich quick mindset because it's not going聽聽
[984]
to work this isn't the industry and i don't think聽 any industry is get rich quick if i'm being honest聽聽
[989]
it's going to take a lot of effort a lot of work聽 blood sweat and tears the whole nine focus on your聽聽
[995]
business and how you can get a little bit better聽 each and every day and i promise you you will be聽聽
[1002]
highly successful in this industry聽 and there's a lot of money to be made聽聽
[1006]
and so hopefully you got some value out of this聽 video send me a message comment if you have any聽聽
[1010]
