hi i'm peter courier driver and this
[2]
video is how much money do you need to
[4]
get started as a courier
[6]
well there's no particular hard and fast
[9]
way about it but i'll give you a rough
[10]
breakdown there are certain things
[12]
you're going to need now the first thing
[13]
you're going to need you're going to
[14]
need a van
[15]
i recommend buying a van and i recommend
[17]
buying a secondhand van because you're
[20]
going into it blind you don't really
[22]
know what you're doing maybe and you
[23]
think well if you go out and you sign up
[25]
for the nice new shiny van and then you
[27]
realize a couple of months down the road
[29]
oh
[30]
should have bought a bigger one or
[32]
should have bought one with a fridge or
[33]
should have bought a curtain side
[35]
then you can't change it because you'll
[36]
lock yourself in whereas if you start
[38]
off with a decent reliable secondhand
[40]
van if you realize in a couple of months
[42]
time it's not the right one for you you
[44]
sell it you get a different one you're
[45]
not too far in the hole as far as the
[47]
secondhand van goes and also bearing in
[49]
mind also that if you go and buy a brand
[51]
new one you might get that at least
[52]
that's going to be hitting you every
[54]
month for the next three four years it's
[56]
like
[57]
that's all going to come off the top or
[59]
off the bottom line like you know so to
[60]
be honest with you i think you try and
[62]
keep it simple
[64]
as for the price of a van
[66]
it really is how long is a piece of
[67]
string i would say don't go mad but
[69]
don't go too cheap depending on the size
[71]
of the van i'd say you're looking at a
[73]
budget between two and ten thousand
[74]
pound
[75]
for for two thousand pound for a basic
[77]
small van run around you could even get
[79]
very tidy ones for around about the one
[81]
and a half grand mark but for two you'll
[82]
get yourself a nice tidy small van
[84]
going up to about 10 for luton you can
[86]
get again you can get dear elutions but
[89]
10 should buy you one you're looking
[90]
probably hoping to get a van for around
[92]
about the um
[93]
150 000 mile mark you don't you know
[96]
what the recent decent service history
[98]
may be from a dealer but we'll go into
[100]
that in more detail later then you're
[101]
going to need your insurances
[103]
you're going to need your goods and
[104]
transit insurance and you're going to
[106]
need your
[107]
hiring rewards or light haulage
[109]
insurance
[110]
this again will depend on where you live
[112]
where you're parking your van how old
[114]
you are and you can have quotes anything
[117]
from 500 pound up to
[119]
10 000
[120]
so that isn't one that we can actually
[122]
drill down onto this that kind of we
[124]
will probably go again into that later
[125]
date but once you've got your van you've
[127]
got your insurances then you're going to
[128]
need just a few basic bits
[130]
if you've got a loot and with the tail
[131]
lift get yourself a panic truck because
[133]
that way you can do planet truck jobs if
[135]
you've just got yourself a small van
[137]
then you just want to get some some
[138]
little straps or you can get some big if
[140]
you've got a medium-sized fan
[141]
medium-sized straps medium-sized fan a
[143]
little sac barrier comes in handy and
[145]
just your general bits and pieces your
[146]
spare bulbs your first aid kit you're
[148]
high with your ppe and then you're set
[150]
to go
[151]
so that's what you're going to need for
[152]
your basics and then after that
[155]
depending on how you run you're going to
[156]
need some money in the bank if you're
[158]
going to run on your sort of your hermes
[161]
or your amazon and your sort of your
[163]
argos kind of thing you probably you're
[165]
going to be looking at about a month
[166]
ahead that's how long you're waiting
[167]
before you get paid so as long as you've
[168]
got enough money in the bank to get paid
[171]
you know to last a month you're okay if
[173]
you're going on like a subcontractor
[175]
platform like we use the cx or there's
[177]
um easy load and returnloads.net and
[180]
there's various other ones then you're
[182]
going to need probably about two to
[184]
three months money in the bank so if you
[186]
take into account the fact so if you get
[187]
yourself a pen and paper find yourself a
[189]
van get some quotes on the insurance get
[192]
your straps and your blankets and all
[193]
that kind of stuff and then
[195]
do an accumulation of your household
[197]
bills
[198]
if you're going to do the hermes and
[199]
you're going to do that and also if you
[200]
are going to do the hermes get yourself
[202]
a decent app yeah i recommend circuit
[204]
it's 20 quid a month but when you bear
[206]
in mind how much money that you've just
[207]
spent on a van and insurance and tax and
[210]
straps you're going to get that money
[211]
back tenfold in save time and less
[213]
aggravation but so get yourself a pen
[215]
and paper do a line down the middle and
[216]
on one side you've got your fixed costs
[218]
your van your insurance your tax your
[220]
straps your blankets your ppe and on the
[222]
other side you've got an accumulation of
[224]
your household bills add those two
[226]
figures together
[227]
that's how much money you need to get
[229]
running
[230]
and then maybe you might want to go and
[232]
it would be nice to have a little bit of
[233]
a rainy day but there's your bog
[234]
standard answer and if you've got that
[237]
together you're good to go
[239]
off you go i hope the video helped so
[241]
