[0]
might be asking yourself why is tesla going up聽 today well here is exactly why sitting at one聽聽
[4]
thousand ninety one dollars per share and it'd聽 be kind of cool if on this video today we see it聽聽
[9]
break eleven hundred dollars and here's exactly聽 why it's going up guys it's because they just聽聽
[13]
recently announced through their sec filings聽 that they want to do a stock split in the form聽聽
[18]
of a dividend and i'll explain exactly what that聽 means now there is a couple things that you need聽聽
[22]
to keep in mind first of all if you are a tesla聽 holder this doesn't mean that you're going to聽聽
[27]
get paid a dividend a lot of people are thinking聽 oh tesla's finally going to pay a dividend so if聽聽
[32]
you're a dividend fund investor this is actually聽 not true at all it's not actually a dividend聽聽
[38]
from the standpoint of something like oh i don't聽 know coca-cola at t q ild something like that聽聽
[46]
that pays a monthly or quarterly dividend that is聽 not what tesla is announcing they're announcing聽聽
[52]
a stock split with a stock dividend and i'll聽 explain that a little bit later but if you're a聽聽
[56]
tesla holder just get ready for that because you聽 also got to remember that it has to go through聽聽
[60]
the vote the shareholder now i don't think by any聽 stretch of any imagination that this is going to聽聽
[66]
be an issue where it's not going to be voted聽 through i really do think that stock splits聽聽
[71]
are typically seen as favorable so i don't think聽 that's actually going to be a hold up the fact聽聽
[76]
that the board has already approved a stock split聽 next up it's the shareholders i really don't think聽聽
[81]
that they're going to deny this so we'll have to聽 keep our eyes on the news but obviously as you聽聽
[87]
can see here especially today we're seeing quite a聽 run up so it's kind of been going up actually and聽聽
[93]
you know since march 18th we're kind of shooting聽 up here but it's been flirting anywhere from聽聽
[98]
about 1070 earlier today to about 10 90 where聽 we are here all the way up to the top at 10.97聽聽
[106]
i would really like it to break 1100 today but聽 we'll have to see because there's actually a lot聽聽
[110]
of downward pressure in the entire stock market聽 right now we have the ukraine thing going on聽聽
[115]
we have you know the inflation thing going on gas聽 prices there's a lot of downward pressure on the聽聽
[119]
market in transparency i do have a very small very聽 very small holding in tesla and i will probably聽聽
[126]
add to that as it goes on but let's get right down聽 to what's actually happening right now with tesla聽聽
[131]
when it comes down to a stock split typically聽 what they'll do is they'll announce maybe a聽聽
[134]
five to one or a 20 to one in the case of actually聽 google and amazon right now coming up this summer聽聽
[140]
they are announcing a 20 to one stock split so聽 for every one share you own you're going to get聽聽
[146]
20 shares but your value will remain the same聽 so what's the difference between a stock split聽聽
[151]
and a stock dividend that tesla just announced聽 well in the case of a stock dividend additional聽聽
[156]
shares are given to shareholders whereas in聽 a stock split already issued shares are split聽聽
[162]
on an agreed ratio so i mentioned earlier with聽 google and amazon a 20 to one split you own one聽聽
[168]
share of google you're going to get 20 shares of聽 google at the same value of what you own at the聽聽
[173]
time of the split but in the case of tesla they're聽 giving this as a payment through additional shares聽聽
[180]
to the shareholders now that could actually mean聽 let's say you have like a thousand shares of tesla聽聽
[184]
you end up after this is all said and done with聽 1200 shares so it's just something to keep in mind聽聽
[189]
but ultimately if we go back to when they last聽 did a stock split back in august of 2020 let's聽聽
[195]
take a look at what happened i'm gonna pull up聽 weeble right now here we are at 1089 really want聽聽
[199]
to see that 1100 but uh we might not be lucky on聽 today's video but let's go back here a little bit聽聽
[204]
and i want to go back to 2020. now they announced聽 and did a split so all the numbers on today's聽聽
[210]
video will be as a result of the prior split but聽 you can see a lot of upward momentum between the聽聽
[215]
period of april 2020 right here all the way up聽 to right about here when this happened so what聽聽
[224]
is that like 8 28 it happened on 8 31 so right聽 about here is when this stock split happened聽聽
[229]
but look what happens after that it just continues聽 to have a lot of positive momentum and of course聽聽
[233]
2021 was a year like none other but it's really聽 nice to see that the based on what tesla has to聽聽
[239]
bring to the table this continued an upward trend聽 now i gotta say i've done some really dumb things聽聽
[244]
in my life and here i'm gonna be transparent with聽 you guys because i know you appreciate that here's聽聽
[247]
something i did that i'm not too happy with back聽 around this time so let's go over here it's okay聽聽
[253]
right here september 4th 2020. it's going for聽 at the top 500 at the low 380. now even at 380聽聽
[262]
back on september 4th i'm thinking i don't know聽 that seems kind of high that seems a little bit聽聽
[269]
expensive and i'm looking at this and if you look聽 at the chart if we chop off the half here to the聽聽
[273]
right and we only look at the left-hand side you聽 can see it's kind of like really kind of gone聽聽
[277]
up there and you know a lot of times i think what聽 we do as investors is we look here and we're like聽聽
[282]
yeah you know i think it's kind of at a high and聽 it's probably due for a significant pullback or聽聽
[288]
recession or something like that we immediately聽 go into this negative mindset right instead of聽聽
[292]
looking at the fundamentals and that's where i聽 failed instead of looking at the fundamentals聽聽
[296]
behind the curtain or under the hood of tesla i聽 decided to say you know what this seems a little聽聽
[303]
bit expensive now if i would have just said you聽 know what even though it's expensive i'm going聽聽
[306]
to buy it anyway and i bought a couple shares聽 at 380 you can obviously see where i'd be today聽聽
[312]
1091 or even before this whole surge came up聽 let's go back here to the end of 2020 at 582.聽聽
[321]
so i would have gone from 380 a share to 582 which聽 means let's get to the point of show me the money聽聽
[328]
and in this segment of tesla we're going to look聽 at the money aka the fundamentals behind tesla to聽聽
[334]
see if this is actually a buy or something聽 to avoid i'm just going to go over here to聽聽
[337]
seekingalpha.com because it's free and i'm making聽 it easy for you guys to look at the fundamentals聽聽
[342]
so i'm going to type in tesla t-s-l-a we're going聽 to click on that and we're going to go through聽聽
[347]
the smart steps and i'm going to take聽 you through exactly what i look at here聽聽
[350]
first thing i look at is the p e ratio p e ratio聽 right now as of seekingalpha.com sitting at 94.78聽聽
[359]
now if you are looking for something that's聽 value for the long long term you got to be聽聽
[363]
careful of something that's overvalued but聽 i'll say you know i look for 15 to 16 pe聽聽
[368]
however with everything that's going on with tesla聽 and the potential growth mechanisms within tesla聽聽
[373]
i'm going to say that even though 94 could聽 actually be a red mark on the p e ratio i'm going聽聽
[379]
to give it a yellow and the reason i'm giving it聽 a yellow is just because of the fact that there's聽聽
[384]
i think a lot of other great things that when it聽 comes down to tesla that we need to keep in mind聽聽
[388]
and a lot of it is its upcoming growth in the聽 electric vehicle sector so more on that in just聽聽
[394]
a moment the next thing i want to look at is the聽 revenue growth because if they're not growing the聽聽
[398]
revenue they might be uh having some issues is it聽 going to be yellow is it going to be red all you聽聽
[402]
have to do right here on seeking alpha is right聽 here at the top go to financials click on that聽聽
[406]
and then right now of course you can upgrade聽 to get all the additional data what i'm going聽聽
[410]
to look at right now is just the difference聽 between what they give me so we have 2017聽聽
[415]
to 2021 are we seeing growth holy crap are聽 we ever we are seeing and these figures are聽聽
[421]
in the millions look at this we're going from聽 11.7 billion dollars all the way up to 53.8聽聽
[429]
that is a significant amount of growth and that聽 means that revenue from a tesla perspective is a聽聽
[435]
green light i love the fact that we're seeing some聽 significant growth revenue looking really nice and聽聽
[442]
sexy next up let's talk about profit margin of聽 tesla because you got to think about like you can聽聽
[446]
get as much revenue in the world as you want but聽 if you don't have good profit if your margin isn't聽聽
[451]
good i get a little bit worried now when companies聽 are first starting off of course they could be聽聽
[455]
negative on this but the goal would be how is your聽 deliverables how is your growth and everything聽聽
[460]
in between but right now for tesla since they've聽 been in the game for a while i do want to see some聽聽
[464]
positivity on that profit margin 10 or more is聽 always a good thing so how you figure out profit聽聽
[469]
margin in case you're not aware is you take the聽 net income of the company and then you divide that聽聽
[476]
by the total revenue so i'm going to say total聽 rev okay and we can find that again on seeking聽聽
[481]
alpha let's go to the net income right here聽 we're still in the financial income statement聽聽
[485]
we come down here to net income let's look聽 at the very last statement so we have five聽聽
[490]
five one nine and we're going to聽 divide that by total revenue of 53
[499]
823 which is actually 53 billion 823 million聽 so i'm going to take out my calculator and聽聽
[506]
do five five one nine divided by five three eight聽 two three that gives me a total of a ten point聽聽
[514]
two percent profit margin which means profit聽 is also in the green so this is looking very聽聽
[519]
good so far let's move on to the next step i like聽 to look at their debt load so this is basically聽聽
[524]
their assets versus their liabilities if they聽 totally get rid of all of their assets all of聽聽
[529]
the liabilities what does that look like now聽 what i want to do for this one you can always聽聽
[533]
find this of course in seeking alpha but i want to聽 talk a little bit about weeble weibo right now is聽聽
[538]
offering five free stocks when you open an account聽 using the link in the description below this is聽聽
[543]
the brokerage firm i like to use and i'll tell you聽 what's really nice about weeble is as soon as you聽聽
[548]
open an account you will get two free stocks each聽 valued up to three hundred dollars and then if聽聽
[554]
you deposit any amount to start trading in the聽 stock or crypto market you'll get an additional聽聽
[559]
three stocks valued up to get ready for it three聽 thousand dollars get started with the link in the聽聽
[564]
description below and then once you do you can get聽 your very own weibo account and within your weibo聽聽
[569]
account you can then do a little bit of this own聽 research so if i wanted to see their debt versus聽聽
[575]
liabilities in this particular example here's聽 what we want to do so within weibo all i have聽聽
[580]
to do is pull up this screen right here go over聽 to the company tab right there at the top you see聽聽
[585]
that click on that and then right here at the very聽 bottom click on financial details you can do a lot聽聽
[590]
of the research that we're doing here in today's聽 video on the fundamentals on the show me the money聽聽
[595]
right here on weeble so what i want to do is come聽 down here to the balance sheet now look at this聽聽
[600]
right here you can see their total assets their聽 total liability and their debt to asset ratio聽聽
[604]
and this is exactly what we're looking for in this聽 particular analysis so if we looked at fiscal year聽聽
[610]
2021 they had 62.13 billion of assets and 30.55聽 billion of debt or liabilities which means that if聽聽
[622]
they sold everything they would still be positive聽 on their overall balance sheet that is great聽聽
[627]
that's what we want to see and guess what that聽 does that gives them yet another green light right聽聽
[632]
here under the debt that is great news that's what聽 we want to see last thing let's look at the eps聽聽
[638]
now that's earnings per share so if we look right聽 here on the weave i'm going to use this again聽聽
[643]
actual versus estimate you can see that estimate聽 is that slight gray line and we're tracking all聽聽
[648]
the way back quarter one 20 21 all the way forward聽 to quarter one 20 22 which is not yet announced聽聽
[653]
however look at the blue line on the earnings聽 per share it's actually exceeding the estimates聽聽
[659]
another great great option so we're going to go聽 ahead and also say that that is a green mark now聽聽
[666]
i will tell you tesla could be considered a little聽 bit overvalued based on the p e ratio right here聽聽
[671]
however there's a lot of things you also got to聽 look at is the growth of this particular company聽聽
[676]
there's a lot of good things going on with it聽 so what i would recommend doing is keeping your聽聽
[680]
eye on the news keeping an eye on their statements聽 are they continuing to exceed their revenue exceed聽聽
[685]
their profit keep their debt in line and keep聽 their earnings per share what we don't want to see聽聽
[689]
is their balance sheet get out of whack as they聽 continue to expand is there a potential where聽聽
[693]
they're taking on too much debt which then you聽 need to as a smart investor try to figure out聽聽
[698]
what they're doing and what they're spending聽 all their capital on is that what i feel good聽聽
[702]
about when it comes down to what they're going to聽 produce in the future and that's kind of the key聽聽
[706]
point so there's obviously more to it than just聽 the stock split i hope this was helpful if it was聽聽
[711]
