[0]
continuing conflict in ukraine is
[2]
raising more concerns about cyber
[4]
warfare we've seen these names moving
[6]
higher let's bring in dennis managing
[8]
director equity research at webbush
[10]
securities this group you've always
[12]
loved this group generally and now
[14]
you're telling me it's a golden time
[16]
tell me more about that
[19]
yeah it will if you look at growth for
[21]
cyber security we're probably going to
[22]
be close to 23 24
[26]
this year that's about four to five back
[28]
to overall i.t spending and i think what
[30]
we're seeing this is going to continue
[32]
to increase in this cyber warfare that's
[35]
right now underway but also in terms of
[37]
just overall the shift to the cloud and
[39]
digital transformation so i just kind of
[41]
view it as a win-win for cyber security
[43]
and i can tell you we've seen the last
[45]
three weeks what these vendors have done
[47]
the way they've worked within the
[49]
beltway within enterprises has really
[52]
helped protect companies and i think of
[54]
further sort of caddos for the space
[59]
so i'm looking at all these names right
[61]
you have palo alto
[63]
you know crowd also z scaler sentinel
[66]
one
[67]
do you like the whole group basically
[71]
look i think as a basket these stocks
[73]
significantly outperform overall attack
[76]
just because what we see in terms of
[77]
spending in terms of the street still
[79]
underestimating what demands going to
[81]
look like and then m a i mean look at
[83]
google mandy and acquisition i think
[86]
that's just tip of the iceberg i think
[87]
microsoft amazon oracle and others is
[89]
going to have to do
[90]
acquisitions but i think look if you
[93]
look at the ones that stick out
[95]
what i view is almost the table pounders
[97]
how after
[102]
here i view those almost a table
[104]
pounders from a risk reward
[108]
where does the disconnect happen between
[111]
cloud and cyber security because i know
[114]
you you even have your eyes
[116]
you have your own etf with your name on
[119]
it i've you know there's cloud and
[120]
there's cyber security where do they
[122]
crisscross and do you like both
[125]
i think it's a great question it's more
[128]
of a convergence that we're seeing in
[130]
terms of cyber security and cloud
[131]
because there's more moves to the cloud
[134]
ultimately that's right
[136]
increase more more of the threats for
[138]
cyber security that's starting to play
[141]
out now look i think the one thing
[143]
in this market they've just thrown the
[145]
baby out of the bathwater i think it's
[147]
as oversold as i've seen back in the
[148]
last five six years that's why in our
[151]
opinion this week fed rip band-aid off
[154]
and we view it as a that the rows in
[156]
fact are in for the year
[160]
right ultimately right okay so that
[162]
being said because last time you were on
[164]
you said this is the best buying
[166]
opportunity in six years for tech and
[168]
you don't always get that and you don't
[170]
always get these pullbacks how quickly
[172]
do you think this group
[174]
could bounce back
[176]
does it even matter
[179]
i mean i could tell you probably four to
[181]
one maybe five to one my inbound calls
[183]
from investors are looking for buys
[185]
versus sales
[187]
you know
[188]
buys versus shorts because ultimately if
[190]
you look at the risk reward here going
[192]
into earnings giving everything we know
[194]
right now in terms of the the overall
[196]
macro and i think right now attack
[199]
especially on names like cyber
[201]
especially cloud and then of course you
[203]
look at names like apple microsoft i
[206]
think you know names like google and the
[207]
sum of the parts
[209]
i think these are stocks that are going
[210]
to be up in our opinion overall 20 25
[213]
percent you know over the next call you
[215]
know five six months
[219]
five six months 20
[222]
that would be huge if that actually
[224]
could happen and i'm sure you expect
[225]
volatility right
[227]
look at the white knuckle period and and
[230]
i think it's what we're seeing in in
[231]
terms of just this overall nervous
[233]
environment but you know i believe what
[236]
we're going to really see here is that a
[238]
lot of these
[239]
oversold the fundamentals are going to
[241]
come through
[242]
and i think you're going to especially
[244]
in tech you you're going to have a lot
[246]
of gems out there i'll call them
[249]
almost the saint peters
[251]
of of tech stocks and i think that's
[253]
really going to play out
[256]
and do you feel the same about some of
[257]
these other names like a cyber ark
[259]
software tenable that goes into that
[261]
whole group
[263]
oh i think that's why i call them table
[264]
boundaries because i think the the
[266]
stocks are significantly undervalued
[268]
relative to the growth the talons are
[271]
massive
[272]
you look at even i'd say they're almost
[274]
defensive names and offensive and then
[277]
what we're seeing in terms of the
[278]
heartbreak and ukraine situation what
[281]
that's really done is just create a
[282]
cyber war that's underway and that is
[285]
just another benefit potentially two to
[287]
three hundred bits of growth to these
[289]
vendors which is why i've used cyber is
[292]
really the sub sector that sticks out
[294]
and i think the way to play tech you own
[297]
cloud you're in cyber security and
[299]
you're in some of the store it's like
[300]
apple microsoft amazon and google i
[303]
think that's sort of the triangulated
[305]
way to play tech stocks here and look as
[308]
me and you've talked about many times
[309]
the haters will hate if they won the
[311]
lotto they complain about the taxes
[313]
you're always going to have the haters
[315]
but i think it's created the
[316]
opportunities intact
[318]
i see so do it in basically in the you
[321]
do cloud you do cyber you do some of
[324]
those names that are the go-to's with
[326]
the moat right the the leaders in their
[328]
groups like the apples um and google as
[330]
you mentioned that being said how about
[333]
what's uh can i turn your attention to
[335]
elon musk's tweet uh you're still a
[339]
lover of the tesla stock right
[342]
milk i think tesla here
[345]
if it wasn't from us
[346]
i think
[348]
ultimately the way he handled the
[349]
conference call and the twitter fiasco
[352]
for musk i think
[353]
tesla is a fourth digit stock here and
[356]
that's been overhang but that's why we
[358]
just focus on the demand the
[360]
fundamentals and the scaling of berlin
[362]
and austin and i think that's why we
[364]
look out next three four months
[366]
this has really been just a huge
[368]
opportunity to own tesla despite the
[370]
circus show that's been created by musk
[374]
when people are calling you said four or
[376]
five to one they want to buy versus sell
[381]
i think that's very telling right that's
[383]
a color that's anecdotal because that's
[385]
what you're experiencing firsthand and
[388]
as they want to buy are they buying all
[390]
at one time do they say they want to buy
[392]
a little now a little over the summer
[393]
are they spreading it out
[396]
yeah i think from a risk perspective
[398]
it's sort of toe in the water you're
[401]
starting to earn more of these names
[402]
going into earnings season i think fed
[404]
that sort of ripped the bandit off
[406]
what i believe is a bright green light
[408]
to own tax
[409]
but but also you're starting to see much
[411]
more investors defensive
[413]
you know they ultimately the risk got
[415]
taken out at a lot of these portfolios
[417]
now they're going to continue to put
[419]
back on risk going into the coming
[422]
months because
[423]
it just comes down to the overall
[425]
environment relative to valuation the
[427]
the the the upside significantly
[430]
outweighs the downside i think
[431]
especially across all
[435]
yeah and just so people are you know get
[437]
the very latest from you for your
[439]
targets on tesla and apple you have
[442]
targets and then you have the bull case
[444]
targets
[447]
yeah and no doubt i mean right now it's
[448]
really about the targets right full case
[450]
continues to be i think once we get past
[452]
this geopolitical environment 1400 is
[455]
the base case on tesla and i if i look
[458]
at demand today
[459]
just given where we could see units 1.6
[462]
1.7 million units potentially out there
[465]
just given what we're seeing from a
[467]
demand and you got berlin and austin now
[469]
ram
[470]
i think tesla continues to sort of be
[472]
the best way to play electric vehicle
[475]
and when i look at apple i think we sit
[477]
here this year
[479]
2022 and apple will be well above 200
[483]
again as the demand story plays out and
[486]
i think the wrist starts to come back on
[488]
the mark without being front and center
[492]
all right and uh unc
[495]
did you go there is that your favorite
[496]
team i know they had a big game blowing
[498]
out marquette last night tell me more
[501]
ah huge game by unc and i look i think
[504]
we continue to shock the world beating
[506]
balor
[507]
tomorrow i think oh okay that's why
[511]
i think unc and purdue the two teams to
[513]
look out for
[516]
all right we'll do exactly that i played
[518]
soccer women's soccer against unc
[521]
a long time ago when there were some
[523]
very famous soccer players there so you
[526]
guys have great history in sports i'll
[528]
be rooting for you dan knives
[530]
thank you
[532]
dotario dan hives managing director
